I played the game at release, then a couple years later with Oblivion Lost. What's the go-to megamod for Shadow nowadays?

user, it's Saturday.

Anyway I've been hopping from game to game trying different flavors of things. Deadbolt, Desync, Distance, the original FEAR and its two expansions (FEAR is too easy even on hard and while the combat is above average the environment and level building makes everything so lonely and depressing, like I can see right through the game to the skeleton of its code, it just doesn't feel like a living world to me), Caves of Qud and Cataclysm DDA, Hollow Knight, Enter the Gungeon.

Currently going through the AKM mod in SoC. I found Strelok's Nugget but I can't find any 7.62 or whatever ammo type this mod has it as, so now I'm just carrying it as dead weight in my backpack in pristine condition fucking hoping I can find a few loose rounds so I can fuck up some bloodsuckers.

It really depends what you want. If you just want Freeplay CoC for CoP provides a better experience in most measurable ways.

Have you tried OGSE?

It uses 7.62x54r (same as the SVD and SVU), which is late-game ammo.

...

Both Duty and Freedom should sell it after you do their "major" quest (grenade launcher for duty, don't remember what freedom's was).

It's always friday night in the Zone fellow Stalker

These fucking assholes.
I hate them with all my soul.

protecta
1. click
2. click
3. click
4. [burer shield sounds]
5. click
6. click
7. [sounds of burer dying]
8. you got a burer hard from the corpse

>Barkeep doesn't sell 5.56
>Duty has only 30 rounds, forcing me to buy from Freedom
why?

wew, I mean hand!!

The mod I'm using doesn't have the protecta and the saiga that replaces it isn't at all as good.
Burers also spam their shield and buffed shockwave so much you often only get one shot inbetween them.
I love Autumn Aurora 2, but Burers are complete bullshit in it.

Are you positioning yourself so that you can keep breaking line of sight? I think they're a fairly trivial enemy in AA.

For some reason these 3 niggers in the same room in the lab wouldn't die no matter how much ammo I emptied at them (yes, Im aware they tend to raise a shield when hurt).

I eventually had to back out and fetch Gauss rifle from my stash, which surprisingly 1-2 shotted them.

Lewd.

that's CoP right?

those 3 are bugged really badly in that They have insane health regen if you're not in the room

Ah that makes sense.
CoP yeah

Now that you mention it I probably haven't. They've been either surrounding me or catching me in corners whenever I've met them.

i need porn mods
fuck nevereverever slinger mod, its never going to come out, liru did but this shit aint liru

Use your knife the devs never accounted for someone to rush down a burer with a knife

take shower

That's kinda crap, unless the 'bug' was just a way to force you inside the room and deal with them in close range. I resorted to attached launcher and hand grenades after thinking their shields were being too persistent.

No, but the moddb page looks good. Is it a Stalker that works well, or are there new maps etc?

t. old stalker behind with the times

>has guro.

No it's just those burers are bugged only ones in the game

Why can't slavniggers make good videogames, Holla Forums?

post the pic with the recommended mods

Bullshit!
Give link pls

I only have these, they may be a bit old.

Never ever.

REMOVE THIS!

I know, those pics are old as shit.

I'm currently playing CoP for the first time. I'm enjoying it thoroughly but I get the feeling I'll end up liking SoC best.
Why are there no bonfires with people playing the guitar?
Why does it feel so linear even though the maps are so open?
Are there only 3 maps?

How do you change overhauls?

If you have a 970 or better. The system requirements with OGSE are insane, but visually it's the most impressive stalker mod, so you get what you pay for in that regard.
There are some new maps, and a lot of new quests, but at the core it's still SoC. If you've ever played Lost Alpha, imagine that, but not shit.

Many reasons. First, you can hit pretty much every point of interest right off the bat, and outside the handful of side quests, there's no incentive to ever return. The maps are mostly empty too, which while this may be lore friendly, going from point A to B and encountering no enemies most of the time until you reach one of said points of interest is boring as fuck. Also, despite being superficially large, there is actually very little content in CoP, and extremely open, sparsely populated maps magnify this deficiency. For all the hate Memery gets (and it's definitely deserving of said hate), I think the idea that there are some areas that you shouldn't be able to access without the proper gear (or sufficient planning and skill) is something that could have really helped keep CoP fresh and entertaining.
Zaton, Jupiter, Pripyat. Yes.

What do you mean?

That's the vibe I've been getting. It's still fun and all and certainly better than CS. I still can't believe how awful that final mission in CS was holy shit I'm mad.
I've only played the first two, and now the third obviously, patched.
Misery gets a lot of hype on ModDB but gets shit on here.
Is it worth an install once I finished playing this?
Is AMK very /k/? I want to have to load magazines individually.

Could I have some personal mod recommendations from anons in the thread? The images are usually outdated and lack nuance an user can give.

SoC was way better. People praise CoP because muh multiplayer

Really? What a shame. I just wonder about the modding scene. CoP seems to have a bigger scene but, as I already said, SoC appears better.
What is happening?

When I replay CS I consider my playthrough "complete" at limansk and stop playing there.
Depends. If your ideal stalker experience is artificially stretching out hobo phase as long as possible, and really buckling down with the survival aspect, you might enjoy it, although I think you'd probably be better served with Call of Memery instead, since you won't be locked to the boring CoP maps.
With my tweak pack (in the SoC repo), you can make AMK AE 1.4.1 pretty milsim-esque.
You'd need to play Zone of Alienation for that, which is unfortunately broken and abandoned since FatalFunnel is an ideaguy at heart and never finishes what he starts. You could try going to /sg/ and harassing him to finish it, but I think he wants to start from the ground up with his next venture that will probably be left unfinished as well.

Have this one.

Pretty much the experience most anons had with CoP, I think. I've heard some people describe it as 'Stalker meets WoW' but I think that's a little harsh, CoP is still better than most modern FPS games.

I guess I have to just give it a shot at some point.

I've only played CS once and the swamp was the bet map by far. I didn't enjoy the changes to existing maps and the faction warfare didn't work well at all. It's a mess.

Might have to give that a whirl ASAP

Fuck me. Are you refering to the /sg/ on halfchan?
I sometimes go there. I consider it beyond the bounds of any site and is therefore its own entity.

How odd. How is this the first I've heard of this?

Yep, that's the only place on cuckchan I've visited since 2014. It's mostly cancer and shitposting, but there's still some good that comes out of it, like the work repoanon puts in, or troubleshooting slavmods with actual slav support.
It's commonly understood that CoP is a good, but flawed experience, and I guess most have difficulty putting their finger on exactly what is wrong with it, so the most you'll typically see is something like SoC >> CoP >>>> CS instead of specifics. Contrast that with CS with massive glaring flaws that are easy to express.

Misery is sort of Artifical Difficulty, however Call of Misery seems to work better (the Call of Chernobyl mod, CoC should be on your list soon enough).
Yes but, as that other user said, the AMK sub-mod that did actual magazines is unstable as fuck.

For a second playthrough:

Shadow of Chernobyl mods
1: AMK 1.4 or AMK Autumn for a /k/ommando that wants to replay SoC.
2: Autumn Aurora 2 if you want more polish and a little less hardcore than AMK note: AMK Autumn combines AA2 and AMK.
3: Lurk if you want gunporn to the point of annoyance and more consistent stealth mechanics, 1.1 vs 1.05 is skub but 1.05 is less bloated in my opinion though I never had a problem stealthing in vanilla SoC.
4: Priobi Story if you want SoC with a new story and some other new shit but it's a little dated by modern Stalker mod standards. I think there might be a re-release to deal with its age, check moddb, /sg/ or hope another user ITT will know.
5: Lost Alpha or Oblivion Lost for cut content and crazy shit, less polished than even vanilla though.
6: Doom's Mod Merge for freeplay but Call of Chernobyl does it better nowadays.

Clear Sky mods
1: The Faction War for a sort of freeplay constant war without the story, warfare for CoC is similar but harder to understand.
2: OGSM for cut content, mostly. Plays similarly to vanilla from what I remember but I haven't touched CS in years.

Call of Pripyat mods
1: Call of Chernobyl sticks all three games' maps together and lets you start as any faction. I'd suggest adding the following mods to it for a /k/ommando experience: STCoP (and the tweak I'll link) + DoctorX's questlines + Outfit Overhaul + Chernobyl Relay Chat if it ever gets fixed. Do not worry, it's actually really easy to install everything I just listed. You can add more to these as you want later. Press Z on the new game screen to start as a Zombie if you want.
2: Swartz Mod for vanilla + more guns and the game bitching at you for Radiation.
3: Misery + an unfucker mod + some config file editing to make it bearable if you want an artificially hardcore experience, personally I don't like it and I think Call of Misery (Misery in Call of Chernobyl) does everything better though I'm still not a fan.
4: Redux 1.0 for a slightly harder vanilla-esque experience. Wormwood/Redux 2.0 is on hold but if it's ever finished it'll probably be CoP's AMK. Old versions of Misery are similar. Early Misery and Redux 1.0 are both a bit dated since they predate proper mod tools. I can't remember if Redux comes with Atmosfear 3 but if not install it too.
5: Massive Simulation Overhaul is an older mod that I think improves the AI though I'll admit I don't play much non-CoC CoP and my memory is hazy. You'll also want Atmosfear 3 for improved graphics since MSO doesn't come with it (most of the other mods here do).
6: Sigerous (SGM) adds a bunch more content to the vanilla storyline including maps from the previous two games. Quality of the new content varies heavily.
7: Valley of Whispers is apparently ok if you just want a little bit more content, I haven't tried it yet personally.

The tweak I mentioned for STCoP (all credit to the user that made it): mega.nz/#!FENTRajQ!cGzv8PPVzJ9M2gnHS-ajIdQYHMTunm1LC8MszDL3iQw

Also for CoP:
8: Shoker or Aresnal Overhaul 3.1 to only add new guns to vanilla CoP. Shoker will need you to download Atmosfear 3, AO3.1 comes with it.

If you want more details on the mods I've mentioned or some of the ones I didn't feel free to ask, even if I don't know other anons ITT will.
I should have said that that's the general opinion of /sg/ and 8/v/, opinions elsewhere differ since more casual players preferred the polish of CoP to the atmosphere and freedom of SoC. Also what this user said, people are bad at working out why they don't like things sometimes.
By the way has anyone ever tried out the tweak in picrelated? I've never bothered. Also does the user there mean that your hitbox stays at the low-crouch size even though your character is actually prone or does your hitbox actually drop to match?

Great new pasta. For CS, consider the AO+SRP merge (found in the CS repo) which is an Arsenal Overhaul + Sky Reclamation Project merge for a lot of bug fixing, and a pretty great upgrade to the gunplay. It somewhat breaks the economy (as AO tends to do), but it makes CS quite playable, at least up until the end.
Thanks fam. Still waiting on Darryl123 to finish CWP so I can tear into that and make a comprehensive tweak pack, but it looks like he may be holding it for the next major CoC release.

NS2 does that (and stalkersoup is essentially a cut up Narodnaya Solyanka).
I was never able to tell for sure in the 100+ hours I dumped into NS2. Enemies in it are extremely accurate, and never had any problem hitting me while I was "prone" and out of cover 150+ yards out, or under objects that I normally shouldn't be able to get under, so either their fire dispersions were small enough to overcome any hitbox discrepancy, or that tweak may just alter how the player's "collision" hitbox interacts with the world when crouching/low crouching, which appears to be what the camera is tied to.

Good idea, we really should get a standard OP for these threads here on 8/v/ though perhaps one less confusing for new players than /sg/'s.
Have you got any idea of how to test it? Maybe forcing NPCs to use it and shooting at them, perhaps, though I don't know if they use low-crouch normally.

...

Looking at the numbers, I'm guessing ph_box0 is standing, ph_box1 is crouched, and ph_box2 is low crouch, since comparing them to the vanilla values, ph_box2 is the one with the biggest deviation. Also, m_stalker we see that there's only ph_box0 and 1, and since NPCs don't low-crouch, that seems to align with my initial guess.

I think the easiest way to test this would be to fuck with the values in m_stalker, like taking their crouch values on ph_box1 and replacing them with the tweaked low-crouch values from ph_box2, and shooting at crouched NPCs to see if it all lines up.

It's worth a shot. Doesn't CoC let you go third person too? I assume low crouch as prone still puts your character model into the standard animation.

If you know some way to force people to crouch I can go test it now.

I'm sure you can, although the last time I fucked around with third person was messing with my very first SoC playthrough several years ago.

It's almost certainly buried in one of the scripts (possibly xr_danger), but you should be able to get companions to crouch by fucking around with their orders, like telling them to be silent/wait here/etc. I know I've gotten them to sit still and crouch before.

Right, I'll have a go at it.

Sadly it does not seem to work with the AI npcs, though it certainly lets you crawl into cars and shit. However when I was using it I did seem to get shot at less effectively than normal, it may perhaps function different for the player than the AI. We would need some obstacle that low crouch is not normally low enough to hide behind to test.

Just tested it with the default values in third person, and there's definitely a special low crouch animation, so now I'm going to apply the different values and make another comparison vid, let's see if it at least looks different.

From a slavs perspective is there a difference between squatting and crouching?

...

So there appears to be no difference in third person when testing this, although you're definitely at floor level in first person. Higher bitrate webm this time so it isn't such a grainy mess.

Squatting is actually comfortable, but you can't move around. When crouched, you're specifically positioning yourself so that you can move. It's not not comfortable at all.

Yeah, fuck OGSE then. I don't care about improved graphics, all I want is Stalker that works perfectly.

It never made sense, that other Stalkers carried basically nothing. But has anyone come up with a better idea to make it more survival?

If you're willing to never have more than 5 quests at once, AA2 is insanely polished and probably the most stable mod I've ever played outside of the whole 'get more than 5 quests at once and your save is permanently broken' thing, which the installer warns you about. I've done multiple playthroughs without a single crash, and that's the only mod I've ever been able to complete without any crashes, and I've played through a whole fucking lot of them.

Unfortunately, there's no perfect solution for this, so it's all about picking a couple of "essential" elements and compromising to various degrees on everything else.

Nice.

So any news on the hitbox?

Ironman helps.

I have no idea on the hitbox itself, and I'm cruising into 25mg of zolpidem right now so I might not be the most coherent as my ultrasharp is now giving me a 3d wavy rendition of Holla Forums.

Once I come down later, I'll find some low cover that should completely obscure you from your first person perspective, but shouldn't from the taller third-person perspective, and I'll see if I can't get myself shot while behind cover that should be covering me.

Sounds good, I'd love to be able to crawl around.

I fucking wish it was friday already.

Still mildly fucked up since I decided to roll the dice and go to 40mg and that just kind of kicked my ass and i'm feeling pretty nauseous several hours later. I was was able to do a bunch of testing with the player using those values, and they do appear to be for collision mapping only (how big your collision box is in relation to the world and other npcs), and not appear to interact with actual hitboxes themselves, which appear to remain where they should be at all times.

At this point writing the post I just turned to the right and threw up all over my arm, leg, part of my chair and the floor. I'm back after cleaning it up and taking a shower, and feeling slightly better.

So what I discovered is that the real damage hitboxes (bip01, etc) are linked to your third person model, and none of the ph_box settings change where your third person model actually is. They just control how you physically interact with the environment and other creatures when you bump into them. You can set your standing form to the modded low crouch, and walk behind a dumpster. In first person, you'll appear to be prone behind it, but in third person you'll see that you're still standing (stance 0) and your head is clearing the dumpster. Engage and enemy and they'll shoot at your exposed head.
You can set the low-crouch values to your standing form.

Verdict here is that by tweaking those values, you're gaining the ability to scoot under things you normally wouldn't (altered collision boxes), but as far as enemies are concerned, you're still walking around at normal low-crouch height and will be shot at accordingly (hitboxes remain where they should be).

First time playing SoC
Am i supposed to rush trough the early game?
I was just in the rookie town and then boom 100 rads. Is it normal? Am i missing something?

Don't rush through any part of the game.
The early gay may be more difficult than most parts of the game but it's still good.
Take in the atmosphere. Don't rush it.

Call me pretentious but Stalker CoP is perhaps the only game where the atmosphere is great enough for me to forget I'm playing vidya and get fully immersed in it.
This, in spite of having to use an inventory menu and such. It's odd, really.

game*
SoC*

Well that was moderately incoherent. Alrighty, the sober tl;dr of that is your physical collision boxes and hitboxes appear to be completely separate, so outside of being able to squish yourself into places you normally can't go (like going under a truck which obfuscates your top half as it's clipped inside of the truck), there shouldn't be any difference in effectiveness as far as enemies shooting at you goes.

I feel you bro, no other game has done that to me. Expect VR in it's own scale. I would give kidney away for S.T.AL.K.E.R VR game.

I've been thinking of that for years.
While I'd much rather have a sequel, be it spiritual or direct, I'd also be fine with a VR version of SoC.
We can dream.
I swear if I ever get the chance to make a game like Stalker, no matter how many decades from now, I will.

i feel like i am going to use this from now on

What i meant tho is that the main story line just got me trough a lot of maps very quickly.
But thanks anyway i will try to search up more side quests and visit more of the map.

Ah, so it'd need a full mod with new animations to actually get a changed hitbox? That's a shame. Thanks for testing it anyway.

I think so, yes.

Can someone do me a favor and post the pic with the various stalkan stages? The one with hobo-phase > death incarnate.

...

Thanks kindly.

I love this picture so much. Whoever made that is deserving of praise.
Brings a smile to my face every time.

So I just finished CoP.
What the fuck? That ending came out of nowhere.
And really? Strelok?
I must say I'm rather disappointed by CoP. It's still good. Got a good 20+ hours out of it but it doesn't even compare to SoC.

You should definitely play through CS next just for the end sequence, you'll like it I promise.

You probably haven't read the thread. I already have.
What a fucking mess.

CoC is pretty wacky sometimes.

Makes me happy. Seems the community knows what makes these games.

Wanted to change from AO to stcop in CoC. Was uninstalling mod for CoC just deleting the gamedata folder? I remember it being so but I don't want to fuck it up.

It's definitely a rushed, unsatisfying ending.

Yep, that's all there is to it.

The Zone was a mistake.

...

Thoughts on this?

moddb.com/mods/noises-of-the-zone/videos/stalker-noises-of-the-zone-first-gameplay-demo#imagebox

Anyone have high quality versions of the Firelake songs?

In CoC, where can you buy a Skat-9 suit? Can't find any traders that stock it.

Is the starter pack recommended for someone attempting modding for the first time? first time with this game anyways
moddb.com/mods/starter-pack
I only played vanilla before and want to know how does the game behave with mods

Nevermind, found out that only the military seems to sell it. It's not that good anyway.

What exactly do you mean? Do you mean is it good to learn how to mod the game yourself or is it a good introduction to playing mods others have made?

Just got to that part. Holy fuck that was expensive. Shelled out my entire savings of 50k+ for only 60 rounds. On the bright side the Mosin is powerful as fuck but I still think the price for that ammo was too high. I also came across this.

RAY OF HOPE???

ray of hope?
More like, ray of nope!
Never ever, user!

Man am I glad I hammer F5 all the time in CoC. Shit crashes so unexpectedly.

Playing Call Of Chernobyl with the Warfare mod and fuck me it's hard.

i mean i have modded other games before but Stalker the way i understand it is unique in that the game has it's own issues with game balacne ,glitches ,bugs and what-have-you , so modding it does bring it's own set of issues ; i want to know the experiences of anyone that has used this starter pack regarding how well the mods synergize and how they affect the game and gameplay and if it's not suitable then propose an alternative to player that wants to mod the game for the first time

Cheburashka a cute.

High-tier ammo is definitely overpriced, yes.

It's just ZRP (bugfix mod) and a bunch of graphics mods. It shouldn't affect gameplay at all.

What mods are you using? The only crashes I get with CoC are the occasional OOM error when loading into the truck cemetery.

Does CoM have the same quicksave issues as Mysery had? And whats a good place to find a big stash of ANY ammo without using that autism mod/editing shit?

Holy fuck why. By the end of it my rad suit was battered to half durability.

that's why i'm asking for confirmation from anyone that has actually tried this mod pack ,because last time i read something like this it was when i installed some texture mod for FNV and it ended up fucking up a couple of quests where i actually had to use console commands to find a work-around make shit work as it should again and also had some game perfomance issues

As a veteran STALKER player, I can vouch for every mod except SWO, which I never tried. ZRP can have gameplay changes, but it comes with a configuration utility, and IIRC, the default options have (default) next to them, so it's really easy to revert any changes. SWO might alter gun statistics, but I am unsure about that, someone more experienced with the mod should comment on it.

Shouldn't affect gameplay as in "none of these mods affect gameplay" except for ZRP fixing bugs and shit unless you go for the optionals. Not sure why you're having problems understanding this. Why don't you just get the mods separately and merge them yourself? I don't think you're going to find anyone here who has used that highly specific and obscure mod pack.
Sounds like user error, tbh.

Are there any mods that add female stalker squads that talk shit at 100rads but run around screaming and crying for help whenever there's a firefight or a mutant?

I grabbed OGSM from the repo and have been trying to get it to work. It keeps crashing during the first scripted emission where you're supposed to wake up back at the clear sky base.
The log says it can't read "global_wnd" and "game_tutorials.xml". Does it need other mods installed before you run the OGSM installer or something?

Nice trips.

It looks like a fucking shemale, jesus

It was going to be to STALKER what Fallout 3 was to Fallout.

That implies it would've been shit though.

Does CoCDater not work properly?
It says the latest available version is 1.2, but it seems CoC is up to 1.4 and beyond right now.
Manual installs only?

Is there ever any reason to go to the generators map? About to finish all missions in the NPP.

Answered my own question. Kinda neat how they did the true ending in CoC, even if it involves way too much walking.

I kept running into this motherfucker in the second half of my playthrough, I did not expect to meet him there. Godspeed, you crazy bastard.

CoCDater doesn't work anymore, you have to manually apply patches. Also CoC doesn't install from an .exe anymore, you just unpack an archive. Sorry, STALKER, looks like you'll have to re-download the mod.

That's okay, I just wanted to be sure before I bit the bullet. I didn't even see any patch packages that update from pre-1.4 versions, so it'll be a total fresh install once again.

I'd have just kept on playing 1.2 like a putz, but asking for work as a Military stalker kept insta-crashing my game for some reason. Never had problems in the other paths.

Yes, that's right.
