Stealth is perfectly fine in DX, it is simply that lethal is better for new players until they get hang of the game. The game is actually very lenient when it comes to enemies detecting you. Also DX:HR casualises non-lethal/stealth by making the enemy completely unaware of the fact that you hit them with a tranq dart, replacing melee with a small cutscene at the end of which enemies are instantly dead/stunned, giving you a stun gun on top of the tranq darts and removing sprays/gas grenades.
