I learned a lot about the sengoku period with samurai warriors 3 as a starting point. It might be fanciful retellings, but the broad events are still historical, giving you some worthwhile context to actual research. It's also a lot less idealized, good vs evil than dynasty, to say nothing of sengoku basara which is straight up fiction.
