Well, it makes sense in a game like Hitman, where you don't want people to realize you assassinated someone until you are far away from the scene.

One or a few games in particular. You're asking us what's the point of poison in every game when nearly every game has a different balance and set of rules.

poison twinking in diablo2 with a shitload of poison charms was fun

Games like this.

...

Youre just playing shit games op. Dungeon crawlers usually have really good poison and dot skills. Seriously, if you get poisoned in EO it can do like 1/3rd of your life bar every turn. And in wizardry 8, if your whole team gets poisoned or acid bombed in the early game, healing them all before letting them die is so hard due to the fact that you dont get heal all for a while. And there is also the fact that you're probably playing shit games that only put you up agains 1 or 2 enemies instead of groups where poison is actually good. You dont use poison against single enemies for extra dps, you mass poison groups so you can kill enemies while weakening the rest. Using poison as a main damage tool is fucking retarded.

Well in monster hunter it's 'I'm playing solo and using a weapon with a low motion value to hit rate but I'm too lazy to build a range of elemental weapons because it's probably too early in the game to benefit from that anyway and also I don't have access to any decent blast options', of course even then pure raw might give better output than poison even on something like db or lance (especially with striker now a thing), but early game poison is sort of useful

git out, you don't wan to talk about poison in video games you want to talk about poison in action games

It doesn't help that i have seen a horse cum buckets, and it really looks like that and it really puts out that much.

I think you know already but in moster hunter some bosses get crippled while poisoned making the fight easier.

I'd blame shitty D&D mechanics where poison is 1d6 and you have to spend a turn and a skill check putting it on and it works for only 1 hit. By the time anyone decides to invest in it so long to get instakill poisons, the campaign is usually done.

Oh my

Why do you keep posting this everywhere?

It's photoshopped.

If the game is balanced correctly this where poison and other status effects shine.
This means the game is poorly thought out.

Since I've been playing a lot of Nioh lately I'll talk about that. It has pretty good DOT and it stacks with the DOT effect of fire. Comparatively few creatures seem to be immune to it. It's ninja "magic" so it scales with that stat (mostly duration I think). You mostly apply it to enemies as a secondary effect of your weapon, either as an innate or as a temporary buff spell although you can also use poisoned shuriken or as an area of effect "spell".
Most importantly, since Nioh is the kind of game it is, every enemy encounter is non trivial so it is wort you time to inflict it on your opponents. As are all the other status and elemental effects.

Its funny that retards keep thinking that the "protein shake" in that pic is anything else than protein shake

Horse jizz has totally diffrent texture and is much more liquid and transparent than protein shake in this pick

This is the first time I've posted it since I saved it like four months ago man.

trails in the sky and cold steel the hedgeheg do it well enough

It's sad that MMOs can make classes designed entirely around DOTs with some support abilities yet so many RPGs can't even balance a single poison spell.

In Path of Exile it pretty much goes like this

Ultima Online's poison was horrifying, and could kill humans in seconds. You could cure yourself with magic though, and nearly everyone trained magic because it was too useful not to. So it was powerful but somewhat easy to deal with (though you really don't get much time to stop it).

Funny enough, in MH3U, one of the best Switchaxes is Mizar's, which has poison. Thing is it also has very good raw, affinity, and sharpness compared to the other SA weapons, and it has power phial, which is fucking awesome. Not every day that a poison wep is arguably the best in its class.

Eh, I'd drink it.

1. Poison DOTs which deal a % of damage are boss killers.

2. Diablo 2 used to have great poison builds. But people were too retarded to explore the mechanics.

Poison and DoT can be effective in multiplayer games.
Pokemon had poison endgame tourney stuff.
TF2 has burn damage that is pretty good

You mean stacking whole inventory with poison charms? Or using poison nova as necro?

In Dark souls 2, a poisoned normal enemy will die very quickly and bosses take a large amount of damage from it before it wears off, very useful for the bosses that have a transition sequence where they take less damage than normal.

In Etrian Odyssey 4, maxed out poison deals about 1000 damage a turn and massively buffs the attack of one of the classes.

It depends on the game itself, but several games use damage over time and poison flavor in fairly impactful or creative ways.

Most of the time Poison and DoTs in general are useful because they deal non-typical damage, whether it be 'pure' damage that circumvents resistances and typing triggers, unmitigated damage that might be lower but bypasses enemy defenses, or because they deal percentage damage which means they can be used to subvert otherwise beefy or powerful foes by simply cycling upkeep of the status and surviving.

Thematic poison is a little more difficult, usually involving some kind of infection or silent kill mechanic; Path of Exile is notable in this regard with its Contagion - Essence Drain skill combo, that deals the aforementioned 'pure' damage type while spreading to nearby foes (and refreshing the poison) on kills, while also having skills that can support it by intensifying the 'pure' damage type, meaning it can be used against single targets without having to deal percentage damage.

You're just playing the wrong games.
Try roguelikes, m'man.

I don't think charms were even a thing back then. The art of poison was to be able and kill any boss with a single poison knife.

Recommend me some good roguelikes

DCSS
TOME
Demon
C:DDA
ADOM
PosChengband

...

thanks

I suggest starting with DCSS or TOME.

no thanks

It's still a best entry-level roguelike.

Shit i can be a necromance in in?

You could be Orc Jesus too unless they removed that too.

Yes. In fact, necromancy is arguably the strongest magic school in lategame.

Im a retard
I downloaded tittles and console
I can anly run console, and the resolution is like 50x50 i cant see shit, how to change resolution?

You play webtiles instead.

crawl.develz.org/play.htm

Poison, you say?

It is easy. Endgame for poison builds is spreading it.
This is pretty much how you should play damage over time in any game with large quantities of enemies. You finish one and it spreads to the rest creating chain reaction of death.

Is there any rougelike with similar mechanic?

This clear speed is painfully slow.

There's similar mechanic with Inner Flame/Immolation Scroll in DCSS, but they aren't poison related, unless you use OTR+Ignite Poison to trigger it.

I don't know about roguelikes but most of the top tier Guild Wars 1 party builds used hex and damage skills that spread from enemy to enemy. Only bad part is that no mortal human player could ever use them correctly and the CPU Heroes BTFO'd all potential human players so you ended up just shepherding around your team of emotionless killing terminators from area to area.

Carry the black torch! Rouse the idle dead!

meant for
fucked this up somehow

Well I am surprised such thing was actually used in MMO. I only knew it from hack&Slashes namely Path of Exile and Diablo3. Locust swarm was only fun skill to use after they nerved zombie bears.

It was first vid showcasing how contagion works. Later it clears any pack with two skills and melts bosses with poison.

And this is how I became a fire mage. Ty mate.

user

yes?

Not specific enough, the poison in #1 was ass, only toxic was a threat, however;

In monster hunter, poison does different damage to different monsters. Deviljho takes 360 over 45 seconds, which is a decent chunk for free damage, can be reapplied to refresh the effect and he has a low buildup so you can poison him consecutively. Other monsters take 120 damage over 2 minutes or something like that. A few are immune. So it's useful on some shit, useless on others. Same with the other status effects. I think status is pretty balanced in monster hunter. As far as most turn based games go, it's a mixed bag. Poison is pretty strong in FFX, but not so much other games in the series.

That's because in EO poison damage is fixed, determined by ranks in the skill.

EO poison is weird. Usually it's busted in early game but falls off halfway through, except for the Nightseeker's poison knife in EO4 that deals absurd amounts at high skill ranks alongside the absurd damage output Nightseeker gets on statused targets but is super deep in the skill tree. Sleep is usually the better status for dealing with crowds anyway.

Hopefully they make an arcanist the "advance class" (class from next game in series, EOU1 had gunner, EOU2 had sovereign) in EOU3 .

POISON
>poison deals a PERCENTAGE of the enemy's HP as damage per turn
>rince and repeat and I unlocked a high level character that carried me trough the rest of the endgame shit until I had to fight a book.

I'll never forget fooling around with Disgaea when I was younger.

Poison in Monster Hunter is done well, it's basically free damage like the other user said.
It's (usually) okay in the Souls games, too. Not that good against monsters but against players it puts pressure on them.

I think this only really works if there's a lot of popcorn enemies.

And even the devs admit making bosses immune is anti fun and a terrible thing to do

That's strange, I always found poison in the souls games to be extremely good. It's generally pretty easy to apply and can last long enough to do damage.

Also works wonders because it eliminates 'attack window' bullshit. Even if an enemy is flying around, auto blocking or some other crazy shenanigans if they've been poisoned they're still taking damage.

Surprisingly no.
It deals enough damage with single cast to work on anything besides bosses. You just cast it and go search for other mobs while having some loot filter with loud noises. On too strong enemies and bosses you can cast essence drain multiple times to stack poison.
While playing it myself I got bit of a problem with it not killing yellow mobs, but at the same time I had 4-link ED, nearly no damage nodes and no damage curse.

Provided you can get it to proc, in Tales of Symphonia poison status can be stupidly, outrageously strong in right circumstances. The bonus boss doesn't have immunity to it either, and thanks to how it works (percent of total health as damage over time), you can beat it solo with a level six Colette.

Wild Arms 4 also has an odd sort of poison status, in that it's not the character or enemy itself that is poisoned, but rather the field itself. If the player's characters or enemies move into or stay in the poisoned HEX, they take damage per turn (and as such, using a curing spell or item actually cures the HEX, not the character itself). What makes it fun is that with decent positioning (easy enough to keep your caster/healer out of melee range when you have four party members; probably why WA5 dropped it to three active), or sealing the HEX with Arnaud's Shut Out spell ("No one in, no one out!") you can seal enemies in a poisoned space, and it does decent additional damage to them on top of what you're already doing. Best part is that the usual "you can't poison a boss" RPG thing is both invoked yet not invoked: You're still technically not poisoning the boss, but they take poison damage all the same from standing in poison.

Yeah, Guild Wars 1 was really pretty unique for MMOs. It still is, never seen another quite like it. Guild Wars 2 is, unfortunately, just another themepark WoW clone.

Thanks for reminding me

One of the strongest builds in Path of Exile right now.

What makes it overpowered

ezppzz

...

Hopefully EOU3 doesn't suck, but with U1>U2 we can only assume U3 will completely ditch the dungeon crawling mechanic, have each class as DLC, and be renamed Persona 5: 2Q

I found it to be a good pressure tool in DS1 and now DS3 after they buffed it. It's not a guaranteed killer since almost everyone will have moss at hand, but it'll give you an opening when they do munch on some.
In DS2 poison was pretty strong if I recall right, but I don't count that game as a good example of game design, since almost everything else is busted.

What I meant was it works in PoE since there's generally a lot of enemies on screen. I figure spreading it wouldn't work as well in other games where enemies are fewer between. Though I may be wrong.

It all depends on the game and your playstyle.
Some games have poison damage with a value determined by skill level, weapon level, etc., and other game may damage by a percentage of an enemy's health. The latter is great for enemies with high health because it can potentially do damage comparable to a normal attack, but over a longer period of time. It's not as great on low-health enemies but that's where the former poison method can be beneficial.
With poison I can think of 2 main strategies. The first is running around poisoning large groups of enemies and killing the ones low on health, then proceeding to poison the new enemies that spawn. You generally try to poison the enemies then move away to avoid being damaged. The second method is poisoning enemies, but using poison in addition to your other attacks to kill them faster than just attacks.

You could probably come up with a middle ground as well. Say, poisoning an enemy and have the duration be only for a few seconds, which would encourage the player to dive in and out and apply it again. Or have poison stack to deal more damage, but limit it at a few stacks.

Maybe some games already do this. Most games I can think of that have poison as a damage type generally just have a bar that fills up, and once you hit 100% it'll apply the effect over a long duration.

Thanks, /fit/

And you know this how?

Maybe he's a furry.

Eww thats disgusting

I'm slightly bothered by that arm position.

That's the point tho.

Here we've got the endgame 'poison builds' in Pokemon.

Insane speed and insane damage. It comes in, kills, and gets out before the opponent can retaliate.

A unique typing with great resists and only one weakness. Good defensive stats let it come in on things that can't threaten it, force them out, and hit whatever comes in hard.

An awkward defensive typing that works because it's something a lot of players come unprepared for. Massive damage and defenses with good speed, plus a built-in snowball effect that raises its stats if it gets a kill, plus great utility moves.

It's an unbreakable wall that slowly whittles the opponent down with toxic that deals increasing damage every turn, or with a burn that deals damage every turn and cuts the opponent's physical attack in half. Has the ability to remove all stat boosts the opponent has, and heals whenever he switches out. (Fuck this guy.)

Well balanced in all regards. Good offense, good defense, good utility.

tl;dr
Top-tier Poison builds in Pokemon:
Hyper offense: "I'll kill you then get out before you can hit me."
Bulky offense. "I hit you harder than you hit me."
Versatility: "I'm either offense or defense and you can't tell until it's possibly too late."
Defense: "You can't kill me."
Balance. "There's a lot I can do, so I fill a lot of gaps that the team needs filled."

Will this fit in other RPGs?
Probably not, because Pokemon is too simplistic compared to other RPGs.
Still, thought it might be worth sharing if this is the stuff you're interested in.

The best way to handle poison is to only make the enemy immune if they would be naturally immune to it (human man or eldritch tentacle monster vs rock monster), and have hidden statuses that only get applied if you're up against a dude where you'd break the game.

So say you have a poison status of 25% health per turn on normal enemies, you'd have a hidden status that only activates when you're up against bosses, that drains health at 5%, or have them have a good resistance to the poison or have them waste turns to cure it, stunlocking them by "panicing" them or at the very least slowing them down.

There's loads of shit you can do with it, but making people outright immune to it when it doesn't make sense only makes it potentially useful against regular encounters with high HP counts, because a regular player would only use it when their attacks are having less effect.

...

I think the OP was talking about poison the status. And out of your list, really only Toxapex should be using Toxic.

Pokemon, by the way, has one of the best poison implementations. Every pokemon can use it. Only two out of 17 types are immune, and those can be bypassed by an ability or a move that changes their type. You cannot cure poison except by two somewhat rare moves.

The fact that pokemon is a team game really helps poison, since you can switch to a good matchup, letting the opponent take damage while dealing little himself. There's moves like protect that work well with poison too.

...

...

Forced weeb prostitute user is right, you can't say you want to fuck horses and then do a 360 and moonwalk away while you hate on dogs, you've already consorted with the beasts.

Guild Wars 1 let you build characters for any status effect correctly.

There was one pic I saw on FA a few years ago. The background was a photograph of the kennels at a vet's office (no animals were there of course), but it featured the guy's fursona fucking a feral dog

GEE I WONDER IF THIS PERSON IS A DOG MOLESTER

...

Facial Abuse?

Is that your build ?
What level are you and why is your health so low ?
I assume you aren't end game, I haven't played in quite a few updates, I would be interested to see a tree.

FineArtistry

it's a furry site called FurAffinity that only allows you to see porn if you have an account there.

So in other words, he no only has an account on a furry community site, he was actively looking for porn there.

How do I know this, you ask? my dick knows no standards help

It's ok. I just came to a JAV where they make chocolate milk inside a girl's rectum.

Hey, hey, hey, hey… hey!
I like the horse girl, but when user comes around and says "I want to fuck that unicorn" and then when a dog girl shows up he goes "fuck off furfag REEEEE" you have to call out the hypocrisy, you feel me?

monstergirls and literal dogs are two different things

Monstergirls are furshit, but they're a step closer to normalfaggery /d/ shit than furries

In Dark Souls 2, you use poison to deal a fuckton of damage really quickly and punish someone that tries to cure it with a slow but extremely powerful attack like climax or soul geyser.

Unless you're talking PvE in which case you do one attack to poison them for most or all of their health and dodge for a while before repeating.

dubs confirm I'm a furry now

What's the best poison type Pokemon?
I need to know for … reasons

Monster is furry and it's always been furry, quit being a nigger in denial!

here we go again

Anyone have that furry chart that doesn't end in dangerously cheesy?

What's it like living with the urge to fuck house pets.

Pic somewhat related

I gotchu fam

I really shouldn't be surprised by this kind of stuff any more but I still am. What the fuck?

This explains why they haven't aired any commercials in a while.

Look, it turns into furry once the DNA stop being human! Which means anything other than human is either xeno or furry.

What's with all the hostility towards monster girls?

Because you're as obnoxious as furries at this point.

>But you're attracted to monstergirls, therefore its the bestial aspect that gets you off

It's not hard fam

Also x100

faglord spotted.

The hostility is not directed towards the monster girls, it's directed at the user in denial of monster girls being furry.

what have I done

Just fuck off already, the only people who like to talk about furfags are furfags themselves.

Fuck off already, your board is dead, nobody gives a shit.

Stop using Holla Forums as your meta shitbin.

condition builds still get shit on by power builds if it wasn't for raid boss mechanic no one would run condi in pve. and is somewhat used in pvp

It's a horses ass. Unless you're standing on a high stool and getting a centaur blowjob, you are in every practical term just lusting after the rear end and the genitals of a horse. If adding a dog man to that equation isn't your thing then it isn't your thing, but you can't say on any objective standards that your preferred degenerate animal molestation can be held above another.

Fuck off, go argue about it back on /monster/ instead of using this board as your safespace.

Anyone else find it appropriate the poison thread has a bunch of 2008 tier bitching about furries and monster girls?

God I've really grown to hate the hating on furfags meme, I'm shocked they don't sell a shirt of it at hot topic at this point.

Nice try nigger, aprils fursday happened for a reason.

He started it.

The separation, ive found is that furries are gay as fuck and /monster/s are straight as fuck.

Furries activley shun anything and anyone in their community that isn't gay, and /monster/'s the opposite.

Another big separation is that furry fucks prefer complete animal traits at all times with dog faces and shit, while /monster/ prefers a mostly human appearance with monster attributes, like say a pair of cat ears. But the main difference is that /monster/s prefer humans more.

Furries also portray their sex objects as much more animalistic to the point of being bipedal animals rather then relatable human beings, which is a sign of beastiality, while the sex objects of /monster/s tend to either act like a very warm (almost motherly) human woman with any animalistic traits played for laughs, or a quirky ingenue girl with a love for them.

So furries are not only gay faggots, but they also prefer the sexual "comfort" of animals over humans. And they also prefer sex objects that solely live for sex, while /monster/s actually have a partner ideal for a woman who is not only loving in bed, but loving outside of it.

Furries are degenerates, and /monster/s are much more closer to normalcy and kindness then them.

Credentials: someone who's sampled both sides. the /monster/ community is much less perverted and much more kind without any sort of the sociopathy that has been in the furry community since it started up.

then dont be an idiot. This is a poison DOT thread.

You're only helping reddit find more kekkies when you shit up threads with the other tool.

Please respond

I just wanted to say fuck every game that has poison/being on fire last forever unless you do something specific to stop it.
Also

an offense Crowbat or a defense oriented golbat with an evolite tends to be a speedy sweeper or hard counter against fighting types with speedbooster.

I meant that I want one to bug me up

For the record, poison ivy is xeno.

No, her CRONIES (aka her plant people) are more xeno. Or flowery or whatever the sexual community for plants is called.

But she's not human dna. So she's furry by your logic

Kill yourself faggot.

arguments come in and then contradict themselves when it's convenient for them. Like the people who says traps are gay.

but they are.

The first pic is not furry, the second one is. The difference can save your life.

Are we being raided? Why all of sudden a bunch of faggots call monstergirls furry?

Furfags have been pushing the "furries in denial" meme for quite a while on here, user.

All I said is if you want to fuck a horse, you've no right to consider yourself superior to some other kind of animal fucker.

how's that denial coming along eh?

Kill yourself, you're not fooling anyone other than leftypol you fucking kike.

furfags gotta try harder than that, also I voted trump so I don't know where this leftykike shit is coming from

Humans are considered animals too
Also, pets have have been shown to demonstrate sapience.

2nd one isn't even furry at all tho.

Yeah I was being sarcastic. Holla Forums is out in full force.

It's less to do with Holla Forums and more to do with furfags. This kind of retardation temporarily stopped for a bit during the time /fur/ and /furry/ were getting spammed into the ground, but they've congregated back on here after a while.

monstergirls have always been furry.

thats like saying "b-but scalies aren't furry!". you're just trying to deflect the fact you're a sexual pervert by separating yourself and creating your own special snowflake identity. just like how tumblrites separate themselves from normal people by calling them "cis" and making up their own stupid genders.

you're a furry in denial, deal with it.

They aren't even covered in scales, but hairs and proteins such as keratin.
*nods and slithersss back into the shadows…*

but user/pol/ is furry

So much fur!

So you're not mad at the FA dog molester you mentioned earlier in the thread?

He's being a salty bitch

Horsefuckers get a bullet between their eyes. Protect them and you get one, too.

a dulahan isn't really a monster you hypocrite, its just a woman/armor that can take its head off.

if you want to fuck a half horse or anything with animal/insect parts on it (which is mosntergirls), you're a furry. deal with it.

Oh, my last few posts were just kind of shitposts. Actual dogfuckers do tick me off, but I've found most other furries to be tolerable, at least via IMs

Hey furjuden, if monster girls are furry, which one is your favorite? I like dryads most because of all their furry leaves. I also like kejorous because of their immense furfag hair, and red onis because their skin color and horns make them injun furries.

Poison builds are bullshit, poison users are cancer, fuck them all

This is the moment of truth where we see if the furkike has the recklessness to condemn himself to eternal hemorrhoids by slandering Ebola-chan as furfaggotry for having bat wings.

I think they like succubi the most, they're pretty furry.

like pottery
