I don't think about yaoi much at all. I have no interest in watching/reading enough of it to form an opinion on whether it's proper or not. I suspect it's not, because I don't think male characters are susceptible to the kind of idealization that female characters are (it's almost trivial to write a female character that expresses both masculine and feminine virtues, but probably impossible to do the same for a male character).
