lorefags BTFO

can't have too many zelda threads eh?

I will bump this in the name of lorefaggotry everywhere.

As a lore "fag", you should know that your misuse of our group to further your own agenda has been noted. We will remember this. You have been warned.

*disappears back into the shadows*
heh…

get it together OP

what, you want termina to be parallel universe? what's the point if link will never be able to build up enough speed to revisit it.

Makes sense… o.o
Because Link died when he fell off Epona and all the games take place

LoZ? I just bumped it to counter the first post.

I-it never happed guys!

I guess you can say this autism is
Terminal

Fuck off back to Reddit, faggot.

See here is the part where musing about lore and timelines gets absolutely ruined by autistic faggots.
Then doubly ruined when the company that made these games puts out a book that is the definitive timeline (lol how many games since then have broken this?) which is basically there to make money off of said autistic faggots.

See, other than direct sequels the games have no connections to each other.
there are references, for sure, but these are mostly in the "easter egg" or "fan service" category.
The truth is that the bulk of zelda games show up as reboots/reimaginings using the series' base concepts with each new console/system nintendo puts out.

Now, is it fun to try to piece them together into any sort of timeline? Yeah sure, especially as the game worlds are ever changing from one game to the next. Very few seem to really connect even on that level.
Like where the fuck does Link Between Worlds fit? Its nearly the same fucking map from ALTTP so is it a direct sequel of that? Or does it take place to another Link some time in the near future of that world? Of course the real answer was that they had this map that people really liked and used it as a quick way to bang out a neat concept for a handheld Zelda game.

I want to add one little tidbit here.
When lorefags start talking about "split timelines" and "it was all a dream" or other shit like that it seems like a huge fucking cop-out. Once more it is just lazy.
Yeahp, it sure does in THAT one game and if you noticed the time travel changes were linear. The very gameplay itself makes the idea of split timelines bullshit because then Link's past actions would constantly make split timelines instead of having a bearing on the future he kept warping in and out of.
So I don't buy it and I won't accept it.

This so much. Each game is self-containing and that what pieces the series together is the basic setting that being “Link has to save Country X from Evil Y”. Some other things such and dungeons, names, item inventories and things like that.

You unbearable faggot, fuck off.

Now all Nintendo has to do is release a book that disproves the split timeline to shut them down.

It's just a theory
A gay theory

We're coming for your timelines next, faggot.

One timeline. Greatly different games are just far apart in time.

But Nintendo already pushed a book that PROVES a split timeline.

Basically what you get is a pool of resources, concepts, and ideas that any new game can then start to pull from. This is kind of a double edged sword but the good side of it all is that you now have these starting points that you no longer need to really spin your wheels trying to hash out. You have a frame work that you can build other things off of and thus you can focus on other aspects such as the gameplay itself. Also, as tech marches on you may get the chance to retry an idea.
For instance, Breath of The Wild is pretty much Wind Waker 2 in terms of gameplay concept. Having a big wide open world that you can go to any point to was a goal of Wind Waker but the world was rather empty (tech limitations).
And hell, you saw with Twilight Princess what could happen if they were just allowed to simply re-use assets.

But back to lore, where the hell does the latest game fit into the timeline?
Now the Shiek are these super advanced techno-magic culture that built all this crazy amazing shit 10,000 years before the events of BoTW.
So is this a prequel or an extreme sequel?
The Shiek were already a doomed and long gone race by the time of OoT weren't they? Their symbols and shit were all over the place at least.

Personally, I think Breath of The Wild takes place some time long after Wind Waker. I base this really on just the types of enemies and races that are kicking around that were first introduced there, and their abundance really.

tbh Hyrule never existed. It's a made up place for a video game.
You're waifu isn't real but she loves you a lot

Oh no. I mad.

I don't even give a shit about this timeline nonsense.

BOTW takes place at the ass-end of every timeline, or it's actually all a dream since there's locations from Link's Awakening and the Wind Fish theme is part of Hyrule Castle

reminder that the director for BOTW also directed Skyward Sword hence why there's so many references to that game specifically

Not even references, full-blown fellating SS. Hylia is by far more prominent than the three goddesses to the point she's the only deity mentioned by Hyrule's residents whatsoever, she's the one granting power from Spirit Orbs, the Horned Statue mentions he was sealed away by Hylia, each and every monk in the shrines mentions Hylia.

The worst thing about all of this is that some people pronounce her as Hi-Leah, when it's clearly he-Leah.

Were you niggers even paying attention? Playing the game even feels like a weird fever dream.

omg wuuuut o____O

couldn't that be chalked up to by the fact that all the Hylia stuff was buried underground so after it re-emerged she became more prominent?

high-rule
high-lee-ans

It's hilians.

Japanese doesn't work that way

Eat shit kike

It was already stated that the game takes place in a parallel dimension. Not to mention that the claim is that it's Skull Kid's fantasy created by Majora's Mask, not Link's. This theory doesn't make sense for several reasons.

Nah, it's more like high-ral. The Japanese kana is ハイラル, high-rule would be ハイルール.

Termina exists about as much as Subrosia exists, on a theoretical level it is technically nonexistent.

It's like Koholint Island.

The japanese doesn't factor into this. They can pronounce it JONG WAI for all it matters.

I mean subrosia is more real than both but they all still "exist"

...

Yes it does. All the names in Zelda are phonetic

Who gives a shit, it was the worst game. The bosses were shit. Everything outside of dungeons was a series of fetch quests. It was just an excuse to reuse assets from OoT and shove in a time travel gimmick.

That makes no sense. Koholint explicitly does not exist but there's nothing saying that Subrosia doesn't exist. It has every reason to exist except that nobody gives a shit about the GB games anymore even though they were the peak of the series.

not really mad kinda of figured it was along these lines of possibilities.
it still happen but inside the power of the Mask simple as that

No, you see it was translated into english. Otherwise you can start calling it Zeruda. And Rinku.

Then why is Marin a Seagull?
Why is the wind fish visible after you beat the game?

...

Worst is skyward sword or twilight princess, can't decide.

That's a pretty shit argument

Skyward Sword definitely. I'm convinced, actually, that Twilight Princess was the last decent Zelda game.

How so. You're arguing that stuff in zelda should take japanese pronunciation as a guide, which is bullshit.

Hyrule - High-rule
Hylian - hilian

Maybe the wind fish used magic or something to create her as a seagull. Maybe it's the other way around and a seagull appeared in his dream. A better question is does how does Linebeck's grandson exist in Spirit Tracks?
The wind fish exists. Koholint doesn't exist because it's all the wind fish's dream. I guess if you count existing in a dream then it exists.

See that's the thing, Koholint, had existed because of the phenomenal magical power of the wind fish, the same as Termina. Both had incredibly similar attributes.

Are you sure that it isn't just a mistranslation?

You're arguing for two different pronunciations of the same fucking prefix. How are you not retarded?

Don't worry they'll completely redo the timeline again around the time where the next Zelda game comes out. Hell maybe next time Termina will be the only real world and every game outside MM will be imaginary.

It isn't, but I think this new material came from something like Nintendo Dream magazine. So it's as authoritative as any other fan theory

Happens all the time in english.

No it doesn't. When it happens those are called 'irregularities' i.e. they don't usually fucking happen

There are more irregularities in english than regularities.

Can't wait for the next game to completely fuck up the current lore book.

Wouldn't be easier to just say that each game is self contained?

I mean, the LoZ isn't exactly a Greek Epic and trying to make it deeper than it really is ; Ultimately will cause nothing but butthurt from diehards and trolling from haters.

It was already clear your command of English was poor. You didn't need to go and confirm it

Could you come across as any more of a pretentious cunt?

It's hilian, asshole.

Just because Termina was not a physical place doesn't mean it didn't exist. Link's Awakening took place within the Wind Fish's dream but nobody cracks a shit about that.
As a kid I had the CYOA book with that cover art in OP's pic, it was the one where you play as Zelda and save Link. It was awesome.

Could you come across as any more of a dumb cunt?

Also, related to OP talking about Hyrule Encyclopedia, they changed the Oracle games to be separate from ALTTP and LA, but also before ALBW

By the way, that should be "is poor" unless you're implying it improved since then.

Ha!

It's funny how Twilight Princess was supposed to be the dark and gritty Zelda when MM and OoT are a lot more sombre.

...

Obviously far less so than MM, but yes.
When was the last time you actually played it?

...

It takes place way after TP, in the knighting memory Zelda mentions the SS, OoT and TP Links. Either that or it's like others have said and it's some sort of converged timeline where the Rito and Koroks exist despite supposedly evolving from Kokiri and Zoras before WW

Every light-colored game on that page takes place somewhere other than Hyrule. I don't think they're being declared separate at all.

Dream koholint is not real
Koholint is based on a real island based on the windfish's memories. There is a real koholint island out there somewhere. Link woke the Windfish and he became conscious once again roaming the winds. Its bittersweet because Link didnt meet the true koholints but the island could be either long gone or still alive somewhere in the world. Also the windfish could've used magic to make Marin real, the most he could do with his power was that conjuration.

anyway the true koholint exists, and it could be different from the dream's interpretation or the exact same. That we will not know. But at least find contempt in the fact Marin existed or exists in the real world.

*notices buldge*
OwO!!! Whats this???

It is compared to anything wind waker and afterwards. Just look at the redead and the art direction

But yes MM is darker

Why does anyone even care what Nintendo says? If you like Majora's Mask, then you can believe whatever you want about it. Playing the actual game it's clearly subjective as to what's going on.

Well it's a little insulting when you love a game and then it's officially stated that almost nothing in it mattered because of some bullshit book.
but yeah fuck that book as far as i'm concerned Hyrule Warriors is canon and after Majora's Mask The Hero of Time continued to kick ass instead of just becoming stalfos.

every game is self contained
the hyrule encyclopedia is just pandering to autists trying so hard for continuity

Please.

I get that every game is self contained but Hyrule Warriors is the best of tribute to the series there is IMO so I like thinking of it as more then just a spin off.

That book is such bogus. Not only does it make everything that happens in Majora's Mask completely pointless. It also says the Hero's Shade wasn't a previous incarnation of Link who lived in regret because he didn't pass on his skills, despite that making the most sense and being the coolest theory. Instead he's just some random schmuck who became a Stalfos because some faggots were sad Link didn't get a happy ending.

Trying to make sense of the timeline shit is one thing, declaring theories that leave nobody happy as canon is just retardation. Fuck these japs.

Good, any lore that came out after Link's Awakening is shit

Direct connections between games that matter:
OoT -> MM -> TP/WW -> Those DS Games following WW

Games that are not connected outside fanfiction (official or not):
Everything else

You forgot A Link Between Worlds happening after A Link to the Past.

Kiddo…

Right. Also the Oracle games.

I figured it went LTTP->LA->Oracle->LBTW

You are almost correct. It's LttP -> Oracles -> LA -> (100 years) -> LBW.

Link gets teleported from Hyrule to Holodrum/Labrynna at the start of the Oracle games, then after you finish both games he sails off on a ship to go back to Hyrule, but the ship hits a bad storm and Link's Awakening happens. As for whether or not he survives drifting on the ocean afterwards, who knows.

LBW hints that Gramps (who wears green and is a secret superboss who uses all of Link's abilities and equipment) might be the previous Link, but as we've learned, it's better if Nintendo doesn't try to confirm anything.

So wait not even OoT link Becoming a Stelfos is canon anymore? I mean I wasn't the biggest fan of that but it still made sense.
This book sounds like the biggest load of shit ever.

At this point my I'm with AVGN Fuck all this shit.
Webm related.

...

The games and the autistic timeline books were not made by the same people so "official canon" is meaningless.

Woah-hoooo-oooh

...

come on now

This.

...

...

In those links it says the original manual and then the book they released say it was like the wind fish island. Doesnt sound like a lie or a GAME THEORY to me

Nintendo never wanted this to be in the first place, they lazily build a diagram that barely linked all the games together and then kept releasing zelda games and changing the established lore to fit their new titles. The funny thing is that the autists that asked for a zelduniverse in the first place never lifted a finger to stop nintendo from changing their beloved lore.

They are braindead fuckwits and you are too, OP. Also termina obviously wasn`t supposed to fit with anything zelda because it was by design an alternate world that changes things around and re-used assets holy shit you are a fag

MM is a direct sequel to OoT. How the fuck does it "not fit in with anything Zelda"? Either you never played it or you are just a retard.

Honestly, who cares whether or not Termina is some elaborate hallucination or an actual province in the world. None of these worlds are ever interconnected; Hyrule's geography drastically changes throughout every game, and there's never any attempt at incorporating a world atlas that places Hyrule adjacent to other regions. They may as well exist in a little bubble inside someone's head.

Anyway, Majora's Mask heavily implies that Termina is an alternate reality; Link chases the Skull Kid through the Lost Woods and into a fucking hole in the ground that swallows him up and transports him to another realm. It's not like Link started out in Hyrule Castle Town and made the conscious decision to another province that everyone acknowledged as a part of the world

The "it was a hallucination created by Majora's Mask" explanation isn't too much of an extrapolation from what they game shows you in the intro, so I don't see a problem with it.

But user, they need this. Otherwise, how can zeldafags prove they are playing a mature game, with a serious and engaging story and lore, for intelligent people like themselves?

But MM was shit. Good thing it got sent to non canon. Now we can concentrate on dumping porn, right?

With taste that bad you'll probably start dumping shota/trap porn so no thanks

According to Hyrule Hystoria the Hero's shade is OoT Link who lived the rest of his life but was forgotten instead of remembered as a hero. I thought it was a cool idea and made perfect sense.
But now this book comes along and says

Just disregard all the bullshit and see every game for what it is. Some of them will have references to the previous games but trying to get some consistent logic or timeline out of it is pointless and reading these "canon" explanations makes it even worse.

Where to FoE, WoG, and ZA fit into the timeline?

Wasn't that just a fan theory? There isn't exactly a substantial amount of evidence to suggest that this theory was ever true in the first place.

Nah, if anything the only actual fags Ive met were all MM fans so maybe you can just stop projecting

The problem is that "It was all a dream lol" is the gayest story telling cop-out imaginable

...

Some of his dialogue suggested he was the Hero of Time amd Hyrule Historia apparently confirmed it, if the Zelda wiki isn't bullshitting. Though I don't know how reliable that site is.

0__0 What if Link died though

It was canon in the Hyrule Historia but now in the Hyrule Encyclopedia it isn't.

Wish I had LoZ porn in this shit. Posting midna will help me a lot. Or post adult Malon.

It's this bebe~
*unzips dick*

I don't see how that's any different from, "lol this entire world exists in a parallel universe". I could understand the "outrage" if the game actually put in some effort to given more context to the situation and then Nintendo just shat all over their previously established continuity, but that's not what's happening here. Instead, they're just giving a lazy cop-out explanation for something that was never specified in the first place.

But he only has like maybe 20 lines of dialogue tops. He says the same damn thing every time you meet him. I've seen a video that argued that his equipment looks a lot like Link's equipment from Majora's Mask and that was an indication that Link died in the Lost Woods and became a Stalfos. Sure, it's possible I guess, but that theory relies on a lot of assumptions that aren't touched on.

Whatever, though. It's not like I give a shit. It's just strange that anyone ever thought this fan theory was canon

Well, for one he refers to TP Link as his "child" once you learn all the techniques. In the Castle Graveyard there's a tombstone that refers to a cursed swordsman, which makes it plausible he did eventually become a Stalfos. If I recall right he can also shoot beams from his sword, similarly to the sword beam from the early games.
Considering his role, the way he talks and the fact there's a billion potential timeline splits or whatever, it isn't that far fetched.

In the end as far as I'm concerned the only source of info that matters is the games themselves. And since it's entirely plausible and even hinted at that the Hero's Shade is the Hero of Time (nearly everyone I've talked to who has played TP came to the same conclusion) I think it's fair to say he is. Regardless of after-the-fact autistic retcons.

The most obvious hint is how he's also left handed and knows all the trademark techniques.

Exactly That's why it rubs me the wrong way that they would release shit like this and declare certain things as canon or not, despite it not adding anything. They could've just not touched on the subject at all and let people keep speculating.

Oh yeah, I forgot Link used to be left handed.

Are you implying his shit is original content?

nevermind I misread your post

For clarification, I'm implying that it's a theory as retarded as mattpat

Rule of cool as well. The ghost of the Hero of Time teaching the Hero of Twilight to sword fight is kickass.

I'm pretty sure he was baiting.

Hell yeah. It was one of the few things about TP I really liked.

Termina never ever existed and it's canon. Get REKT, lorefags.

So id this new book like the Hyrule Historia and the Daizenshu where the project head confirmed them as canon, or is it more like the Jorge Joestar novel where there's no official statement either way?

Where are you faggots coming from?

kek

Which is funny because Link's awakening is literally the best legend of zelda game there is and that game is the it was all a dream, thing.

Post time skip is borderline apocalyptic. That said aesthetically Twilight Princess is obviously the darkest and I'd say otherwise it's about the same as OoT. I also wouldn't call MM dark. It's more occasionally disturbing than dark and I think the aesthetic of the remake is much more akin to their original intentions for the game.

...

What makes you say that?

I swear, these wiki editors are friggin' morons. We've known for some time now that Hyrule Encyclopedia includes a telling disclaimer in the first chapter that Nintendo Dream (the fan magazine that wrote the book) took creative liberties with the material given to them by Nintendo. BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION, THIS IS AMBIGUOUSLY CANON CONTENT COMPARED TO HYRULE HISTORIA.

This is true.

The entire theme of MM is the inevitability and ever-presence of death. You are loomed over by an unavoidable death ball that comes so close it's hard not to look at. You avert the catastrophe only at the very end, and the entire rest of the game is simply delaying, delaying, and delaying. There are no gorons to hug you, you can't actually go back to kiddie time and just get rid of the bad things. You just roll it back a bit.
Everyone in the game is horrified.
A feeling of terror and nihilism to the degree some people don't even try to flee the catastrophe pervades the NPCs.
There is tragedy written into the very world itself. Every time you don't save someone, every time you don't fix something, the world knows. They're still there, stranded, needing help, dying, or otherwise. Even if you fix the moon, are their catastrophes just over? What happens to the Deku Butler's son? Rather than finding neat items in boxes, your biggest power is dead people. Masks are evocative of the dead in most places in the real world, and you obtain each mask only through the death (or mutilation) of 3 people.
To say MM is just 'disturbing' is ignoring most of the structural elements in the game, let alone its aesthetic.

How can ninfriendos act like BTFOTW is the primary selling point of the Switch when it's available on a system they all probably own anyway?

But BOTW isn't the primary selling point.
Snipperclips is the Switches killer app.

Inevitable as fuck, to be sure. Actually not arguing against you here, because in reality this is a closer mirror of death and the human efforts against it than it would be if it was actually inevitable.

It's straight from Aonuma, so it's his own say-so.

The impossibly strong 'power of time' you used to save the day is no longer a magic problem-be-gone stick. You have to undo things, improve yourself and learn about the environment, and then try again. Rather than beat an actual big bad guy, you kill a horrific terror-beast made of tentacles and mask, and save the shitty kid from its grasp.
Sure, you avert it. What if you only had one try? What if you weren't there? What about all the people that probably die even if you win? The ones who are already, irrevocably dead like the Butler's kid due to Skull Kid's+Horror Mask's bullshit?
I agree you are able to avert the inevitable at the end, but the horror is everything you do up to that point.
In another universe where there isn't always a good ending, Majora's Mask would be a relief, and playing it would be a heart attack. By all metrics, it should end with everyone dying despite all your efforts. You just took the horror-mask with you.
But it doesn't. You DO save the day. You're the motherfucking Hero of Time, and you (as the player) did that.
Doesn't make it any less dark, though.

Wrong. He barely had anything to do with the book.

I didn't say it made it less dark, only that it made it less than inevitable. You actually can avert it in a single cycle, by the way.

Timeline stuff used to be fun speculation, that was never to be taken too seriously. People insisting Nintendo put out an official timeline totally ruined that.

Majors Mask takes place in the dark realm. This is what they mean by parallel world

You also vision the dark realm in A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, and Twilight Princess. In Twilight Princess it is hinted that the "Interlopers" may be related to the Tribe native to Termania that created Majoras Mask in the first place. Midna puts on a mask made by the interlopers to change her form exactly like Link does in Majors Mask.

Also Zant fucked up the Dark Realm and that's why it looks so fucked in Twilight Princess

the porn is pretty good

So just say what's nothing but bullshit and dismiss.

Termina was Link's purgatory before he went to the afterlife.

I always used to look at Zelda the way people might look at Greek mythology or something. There's an understanding that all of these stories take place within the same universe, but there's no perfectly planned out timeline that pieces everything together. There are obviously some stories that have more of a defined place in the history of Hyrule, but there are others that could take place at any point. And that's fine. Not everything needs to be neatly pinned down.

Midna established that what you see in TP is more or less what it looks like most of the time, minus the people with giant stone plates attached to their faces. There are like 600 alternate worlds in Zelda at this point, they're not all related and even the ones that are the same change every time (Sacred Realm in ALttP is the Dark World, in OoT it's where Link is kept after he pulls the sword).

I don't get why retcon something stated IN THE FUCKING MANUAL OF THE GAME
gamesdatabase.org/Media/SYSTEM/Nintendo_N64/Manual/formated/Legend_of_Zelda-_Majora-s_Mask_-_2000_-_Nintendo.pdf

This. Why else would Link be able to enter either of these worlds?

Most games are intended to relate to one-another in some way, particularly using OoT or aLttP as a jumping off point.

Fucking kill yourself.

Aye, I'm happy to say that HW got the most amount of play of any game on the wiiu for me.

Like in that video posted earlier, things were fairly straightforward until MM. Zelda 2 was a direct sequel to Zelda 1, ALttP was a prequel to Zelda 1, and OoT was the prologue story from ALttP. Then there was MM with its weird timeline shit and then WW happened and things started to spiral out of control.

Where do you get this?

How do the two best Zelda games fit into the timeline?

Watch the webm I posted

Back cover of the game

It's pretty fucking straightforward. I don't know why people have such an aversion to the timeline split it's the same logic as Back to the Future: >One timeline follows the events after Ganon is beaten
The only weird one is the sudden introduction of 'if the hero falls' and even that is just to fulfill aLttP's prologue where Ganon gets the whole triforce and turns the Sacred Realm into the Dark World.

Majora's Mask didn't make things complicated. Wind Waker made things complicated, because of the flood shit and Ganondorf being turned to stone and drowned along with the Master Sword. Before Wind Waker I think everyone just assumed that Ocarina ended with the crisis averted and everything back to the way it was with Ganondorf being defeated.

...

Enough with this fanfiction-tier bullshit. All Nintendo has done is revive the creepypasta autism by giving these idiots validation for the fanfiction they wrote when they were 12. Fucking drowned Ben will be making a comeback now for fuck's sake.

You can tell by the numbers associated with each box. Before it was ALTTP, Oracles, and LA (3, 7, and 4 respectively) but now it's 3, 4, then 7

...

Yet now everyone I ask is treating it as though its official. I mean, I don't like the idea of Termina being fake, but all this does is fuel that long dead creepypasta autism that plagued every discussion about MM back in the day, like everything being Link's coma dream, Link being dead and in limbo, that everything is the work of the Happy Mask Salesman, or that Drowned Ben or whatever is the real mastermind behind everything. Plus, parallel worlds have always been a thing with Zelda, what with the Dark Worlds, Lorule, the Realm of the Ocean King, etc etc. Termina was an entire world while Kohilit was just a little island. For such a complex and detailed world with shit not seen on Hyrule, like Goron celebrations and statues, Deku societies or baby Zoras, this was clearly more than just a dream. Hell, someone even said there's no such thing as parallel worlds in Hyrule despite the mentions above and one even used Wonderland or Oz as a good comparison to why Termina doesn't exist even though that's only in the fucking shitty Disney and WB movies, not the fucking books. Fucking hell.

why is he the best Link?

...

Termina is an alternate dimension. Nowhere in the manuals, or the games (Both MM and MM3D) does it say that it's "just a dream" like Kolohint was

Zelda canon isn't too fucking consistent anyways

The hero falls timeline just strikes me as Nintendo reading up on fan theories, and not really getting it, but also needing to make sure every game fits somewhere when they never really thought about it before. I think it's pretty clear there should never have been an official timeline. At least not one that included all of the games. I mean, who cares where Link's Awakening fits in? It's irrelevant.

yeah but now we have some shitt book released almost 20 years after the game came out to prove stone set "canon" otherwise.

faggots need to realize that Legend of Zelda is what it is: A fucking legend.
for all we know, the first zelda game is just a retelling of Ocarina of time when you play as an adult. legends change over time and vary from place to place.

Except we literally know exactly where it fits in. LttP→Oracles→LA

Same way we know OOT→MM, WW→PH→ST

We also know WW takes place after OOT and SS is the first

It's linking them all that's the challenge

Is this an official book? Is it translated directly? Is this referring to original plans for the setting/concepts that are only now being revealed?

There was never any indication Oracles Link was the same guy from ALTTP. It's clear they just tried their hardest to make everthing fit somewhere, when there was really no need.

Yes and no, see
The point is that Link's Awakening could fit in practically anywhere. Any Link that knows a Princess Zelda (so basically, not SS Link and maybe not WW Link) could fit the bill.

However, because of the art style I have a hard time considering it as anything other than the sequel to A Link to the Past

WHY DOES THIS THREAD EXIST

Fucking scared me there.

I really stopped caring about canon at this point since Zelda had no intended canon and nintendo is just making some poorly made canon to appease western autists.
Because seriously, do japs even care about the timeline- let alone Zelda games?

The problem is the majority of fans will be taking this as canon since a vast majority of morons use wikis as an official source of info rather than treating them like the shitty fan archives that they are. In a few years we won't even be able to discuss this without the majority saying that shit don't matter because its not canon, like what's going on with the super autistic Star Wars fandom.

We also know that TP and OOT happen 10,000 years before BOTW due to on game info.

thats over 10,000 years before…it's not really made clear but the original concept for BOTW was supposed to be 10,000 years back but they skipped it and went for a ruined future vibe

I think the 10,000 years part refers back to pre-Skyward Hyrule

I think aside from the bullshit cop out "the hero just dies lol deal with it" third split, the timeline works out okay

No, and no. Zelda isn't really popular in Japan, almost as bad as Metroid over there

does that mean I can make this canon later on?

makes sense. I remember that Twilight Princess came out in the west first before Japan.

So wait this new timeline is just full on apocrypha? Are the people in charge of the wiki just retards? I know rite. Funny joke. Of course they're retards.

Do Japs even like anything beside grindy handheld games and pachinko?

Japs have shit taste in evreything and can't evn make western fantasy right half the time despite being obsessed with it.

VNs.

Making up your own zelda lore is fun and I like how certain symbols come up in Hylian architecture when you look at buildings. Admittedly some people take it way too far.

Hi is this the Zelda thread?
I tried playing Breath of the Wild in the newest public CEMU, but for some reason, water doesn't exist – I just fall through it and walk along the bottom, making the chests next to the first trial hilariously easy to get – and the two panels in the Magnet Trial can't be picked up by the magnet rune even though I saw how it worked in the E3 demo. Is CEMU fucked, or is my copy of BotW somehow fucked? People are apparently playing through the game fairly extensively despite the 12 FPS, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong here.

I like my theory on how some Zelda games are just retellings of other Zelda games.
Breast of the Nerevar is canon

The west could never make something like Bayonetta, but Japs could never make something like Metroid Prime

Wow is this BotW? It looks better than I thought.

That's how I explain away the things that just don't make any sense at all. The games are legends, and sometimes legends get changed over time or parts of the story are forgotten.

yes my friend.
I had a thread on it but Mark took it down because he does not like video games

Sure, but do the Japs even like Bayonetta?

This cannot be true because some games are direct sequels to others, like PH→ST or OOT→MM

I mean like the original Zelda could be a retelling of Ocarina of time's adult playthrough. instead of 7 medallions, it could be retold as 8 pieces of the triforce or some shit.
but that would contradict Zelda 2.

That's not necessarily true. Metroid was always niche. It had about three games prior to Prime and Fusion, the games always sold better in the States than they did at home, therefore giving the IP over to a US based developer for their first major 3D outing seemed a natural fit.

Zelda was never niche, and was actually quite popular in Japan up until the N64 era. So much so that the Japanese got a lot of Japan exclusive Zelda shit. The problem is, like suggested, the Japanese don't really play home games any more. They much prefer handhelds. Even then, the Zelda series sells well enough in Japan. So well that I doubt they'd give it over to Retro or somebody else in America just to give their western studios something to do.

GREEDO SHOT FIRST GUYS LOOK

yeah pretty much

TP and OOT had already happened at that point if we go by zelda's description of the master sword.

So it couldn't be SS because 10k years ago was the last time ganon had appeared. before the events of the story were set in motion

Nintendo might not even know their own timeline now.

I was going off of the Divine Beasts and Sheikah tech, since if the Sheikah were still around it'd have to be pre-OoT and the most technologically advanced part of Zelda was pre-Skyward

Fucking this I bet you guys can't even
*teleports behind you*

second season or new series never ever

(checked)
Me too. The Link in the cartoon was a cad, exactly how I imagined he would be when I was a kid: wanting kisses off a princess and generally not giving a fuck.

The Captain N episodes were your second season

*lies down in front of you*

Hell, Link's Awakening could take place mid Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass, given how often he gets lost in storms.

*snips your boyclit-Imeanclip*
woops did I just do that…?

males can't lay eggs, yoshi is a female

cuntboys get to be called males too tbh plus he could just be a maleherm instead anyway

i'm pretty sure hermaphtodites don't have wombs or they can't give birth, one or the two

Read some fucking Lovecraft. Just because it's a dream doesn't mean it didn't exist. The same goes for Link's Awakening.

I'm pretty sure Yoshis aren't hindered by any of these restrictions of intersexuality you commonly get in our animal kingdom because Yoshis don't real in our animal kingdom '3'

Who said that yoshi is yoshi?

...

The Hyrule Encyclopedia isn't official. It's by a fan magazine. The only word of god on Zelda is Hyrule Historia.

Well i'm not going to complain but that's also not the response I was expecting to elicit

i prefer the purple yoshis

they taste like blackcurrent

I-I wouldn't be that picky myself, I'm just really craving cock right now… ;w; warning: 3dpd n-no flood

wouldn't the spikes n the cockring hurt his nozzle whenever he goes crotch deep?

HYRULE ENCYCLOPEDIA
IS NOT CANON
The fan magazine that published it took creative liberties and it's
NOT OFFICIAL
THEY MADE SHIT UP

Nah, they're just styrofoam, user.

that doesn't fly with me

will he be the new CWC?

No; Sammy has calmed down a lot since getting on medication.

… I'm inclined to agree. Maybe the trashiness doesn't really sink in as much for me 'cause it's not 3dpd ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

also the text seems to be static and hovering over his skin.

This is what happens when you have PROPER PARENTS.

...

its not like you can choose for your kid to not have autism

During his exhibitions, like when he teaches you the Back Slice, he also makes the same sort of yelling noises that Link from OOT makes, about as high pitched as the original Link was, just with a filter over it.

It's either that or CWCville.

We know that the Link from aLttP and Link's Awakening is the same Link and at the end of the Oracle games Link goes sailing on the same ship he wrecked in LA.

...

...

He was tempered by shitposting. He was born into it. Molded by it.

He's old enough to vote?

He looks like a cute lesbian instead of a guy

Shit. I'm actually genuinely happy for him.
Good going Sammy! You rock, you adorable but dorky looking bastard.

Ashley burch?

Isn't this the same book that has a disclaimer at the front saying they took creative liberties with it, as in they made it all up? It was made by nintendo dream, they're a fan magazine if I remember correctly.

No, and no. Link's Awakening also has its final boss - the Nightmare - take most of its forms from Link to the Past bosses, namely Moldorm, Aghanim, and Ganon. It has to be LttP Link, because none of the other Links have fought those first two.

It was the only game where Link ended up with the completed Triforce at the end of the game, which is what sent him off to Holodrum and Labrynna. I think Skyward Sword recently became the second game where that happened, but that wouldn't fit at all given how abandoned the surface is during the game.

Jesus Christ, guys, next you're going to insist that Majora's Mask Link isn't the same Link as OoT.

...

I forgot about those but it could still fit anywhere. Aghanim is just Ganondorf. The Moldorm was the first boss in Link's Awakening so its shadow appearing in the final boss doesn't necessarily indicate that Link fought it on a previous adventure. All the other Link's Awakening bosses, as far as I know, were unique.
Doesn't mean they're the same Link. Oracles Link is a bit younger than A Link to the Past Link. A completed Triforce simply indicates that the game takes place in the same part of the Timeline. In addition, if I remember correctly, when you meet Princess Zelda during a linked game Princess Zelda indicates you've never met before, which wouldn't be the case if the Oracle games were the sequels to A Link to the Past

Also, "Dear White People" BTFO by based Sammy

sage for off topic

Exact phrasing used was Aghanim is an "alter ego" of Ganon, and given supplementary material such as audio dramas go with the explanation Aghanim is possessed rather than a form of Ganon's (along with that all the soldiers are similarly possessed) and one of the maidens' own words that Ganon hasn't been Ganondorf ever since coming into contact with the Triforce, I don't think that's it. Alter ego likely refers to taking over a person totally and completely, or just a roundabout way of saying they're his puppet, like with Zant and Cia later on down the line.

What did Link just do at the end of ALttP, though? Use the Triforce to wish everything back to the way it was, more or less. If this affects reality such as his dead/living uncle, it could affect memories. If I recall correctly, characters such as the Essence of the Triforce or the Maku Tree also refer to Link as "hero" at the start of an unlinked Oracle game.

The supplementary material differs from the actual game. The second time you fight Aghanim he actually turns into a fucking bat and then turns into Ganon. They're the same guy.

Actually, the Ganon bat comes out of Agahmin's body.

it literally is though

Unlikely. Firstly how did he know to return The Master Sword to its proper place if his memory had been wiped and secondly there's the fact that Princess Zelda knew him by name even before they met in A Link to the Past and has to be introduced to him in Oracles
Link's always referred to as 'hero', even when he hasn't done anything yet, like in Ocarina of Time, or The Wind Waker, or even Twilight Princess I think

His body at this point being a pile of robes

It's only insulting becuase your the kind of autist that derives your own identity from the things you like rather than your own actions and thoughts.

Otherwise why would you care?

...

nigger his family divorced back in 2014-2014
he has a mulatto stepdad or something last I check
I once had leaked pictures of him but they're long gone

And to think I legitimately thought Sammy was gonna turn out to be the CWC of the [CURRENT YEAR]. Good on him.

They split the timeline 3 ways for OoT.
Two would make sense, one where the child hero wins, one where the adult does.
The third, where the hero fails, is completely retarded, otherwise there'd be no reason why the series lacks a separate "Hero Fails" timeline for every other game, or why OoT is the only place it diverges in such a way.

That's a non-argument.
The Japanese language doesn't explicitly dictate the use of r over l. It's a retarded misconception people parrot all the time and is a clear mistranslation artifact.
If you want to get autismal about it, neither l nor r is technically correct and in practice with purely japanese words - it's actually a mix between the two sounds, but most romanization methods are dumb and default to "r".
However, that all means nothing, because Katakana is used to represent the names in LoZ, and is most commonly used for foreign loanwords, not native Japanese. Rinku and Zeruda aren't western names, but Zelda and Link are.

If your lacking perception of Japanese demands more proof, you can just listen to Shigeru Miyamoto talk. He clearly says "Zelda" around 40 seconds into the embed. I would think the creator pronounces his character's names as he intends for them to be.

You can still see his bare hand, but this is getting a little picky over a pile of pixels meant to be viewed on a CRT TV. At any rate, it doesn't really make sense for Agahnim to literally be Ganon - the whole point of breaking the seal on the Dark World was so Ganon himself could escape into the Light World. He was trapped in his own twisted world, and could've even leave it with the power of the Triforce alone. If Agahnim was Ganon all along, it goes against that plot point.

Anyway, all this talk of Link's Awakening, and I don't think it's been mentioned here yet that it's the one legit change Hyrule Encyclopedia made to the actual timeline. According to it, Link's Awakening is a direct sequel to A Link to the Past, and both Oracles take place afterwards as minor gaidens (not even in bold like Four Swords) with a different Link (since we apparently can't have the same Link over two games). In all likelihood, even though Nintendo Dream admits they made certain details up, a change to the timeline itself would probably have to come from the top. Personally, having A Link Between Worlds taking place two Links later ruins Gramps' connection.

Now that the dust has settled that this is painfully bad lore fanfiction, I'm glad we can all agree that best girl is ____

Zelda is your….

Link

Its getting almost as bad as 4cuck in here.

Yep. They could've just fit the original games in the adult timeline, having them take place when the great sea finally recedes.

that frog is cute

...

These recent retcons are likely a sign that Miyamoto has finally lost his mind.

But I've watched Guru Larry videos, Miyamoto has apparently been a real piece of shit for a long time now.

Miyamoto had nothing to do with them. As keeps being said

I think people give Miyamoto too much credit. I don't think he ever gives a fuck about the games beyond the ideas to make them fun.
I'm fairly certain he doesn't give a single fuck about storylines or anything like that.

To be rather honest, I don't think long overarching stories and plots are a Japanese thing anyway.
If you consider anime, most only run for one or two seasons worth of episodes. Some even shorter.
The ones that last for a LONG LONG time (DBZ, Inuyasha, Naruto..etc..) what are they actually doing? Just repeating the first scenario over with different names and new cool powers.
What's happening with most japanese games?

I get the distinct impression that (in general) Japanese treat their games and stories in regards to sequels in the way you had 80's slasher flicks. Some familiar core elements but the continuation of the "story" is really not all that meaningful. The story in these regards is just another tool/justification to get to whatever is trying to be expressed at that time. Be it a cool action sequence, a sort of game play, maybe some philosophical question or political statement (Kojima), or anything else like that.

...

yeah, go figure

Nothing in it mattered because its a fucking videogame.

Grow up or fucking kill yourself holy shit.

Nothing matters because life is pointless. I'll kill myself later I'm playing video games.

Yeah, go fuck off back cuckchan, missy.

Its a problem when a good chunk of the western world now considers them an official source of info. ffs even that shit hole wikia got bought out by big name companies and its being treated like an official library. We are in Huxley's nightmare.

Why are you on a board about video games if you don't give a shit about them, m8?

The fuck, I thought this kid was like 12 or something when all those old videos came out. All of that shit did not 6 years ago did it?

They were both right just look at China, The Soviet Union, North Korea, South Korea, and the UK for examples of Orwell's nightmare.

Also just throw all of the EU in there it pretty much applies to all of them.

lol just looked it up. This fucking kid was born in 1998. He's was like 15 or 16 when he made the majority of his original videos. How the fuck. Did he like never drink milk ever?

I'm glad you can't think critically.

good comic

Wipe this meme from the face of the earth
TP is the first Zelda to not be part of a clear timeline unless you count the four swords saga and even then stuff like Stalfos Link make it pretty clear it is part of the timeline instead of being fully removed

How does Hyrule Warriors fit into it?

With the exception of North Korea which is basically pure Orwell, all those examples use both to varying degrees.
Even the US uses Orwell-type tactics, though to a less obvious degree than the UK or the EU.

...

Do you think normalfags know, let alone give a fuck, about the CIA/NSA? Certain types are even in favor of it because muh terrorists/muh Russians.

I'd probably be totally cool with extralegal surveillance if it were used against the enemies of the people, but it's not so fuck it

Seeing as it was in all the papers, not to mention several films, yes. I do think they know.

I would bet that a large number do not. That's where the Huxley shit comes in.
Normalfags don't read the news, they at most read Twitter/Facebook and watch Jon Stewart.

They made a fucking movie about Snowden. NSA spying was in the Simpsons movie, it was referenced in The Dark Knight (the sonar machine Batman uses to find the Joker is something the NSA actually have), it's been mentioned in countless other places. Not to mention it was a big news story when it broke. People know about the spying. Now, whether they care is a different issue entirely. Most people in London don't actually care about the CCTV cameras being everywhere, even though it's hard not to know about them.

While we may have touches of Huxley and Orwell the truth is that we are in more of a Bradbury type dystopia.

gay

Nah, in 451 shit was imposed basically from the bottom up.
Just because people might approve of the government silencing nationalists doesn't mean that the government did it because there was a demand. The fact that people don't read or know anything about politics or history is just as much Huxley as it is Bradbury.

Maybe you're right.

Both Huxley and Bradbury both outline much the same scenario the only difference is in Bradbury's story the tail is wagging the dog. In 451 normalfag hedonists control society and those in "power" pander to them to maintain an illusion of control and stability and to ensure their own political careers.

He isn't.

...

You realise they don't need to use the camera to track you? The phone doesn't even need to be on for them to track you

so termina getting destroyed by the moon would not have had any consequences?

Maybe Majora wanted to use the Skull Kid wanted to kill Link and trap his soul inside the mask, and the moon was a manifested representation of that intention.

Really, you could spin any kind of story to have it make sense.

>skull kid looks at his new friend link and says "My name is Chris Houlihan. This is my top secret room. Keep it between us, OK?"

any angecy and probably any person but an african nigger can track you on your phone, dildort.

ONLY SEASON 1 IS CANON

11/10

Says user forgetting for a moment he lives in social justice hell.

The only thing that matters in game, is the fun you derive from it. Toys have no other value.

I fail to see what the issue is here. It's not saying "Termina never existed!" it's saying "Termina was a temporal plane, and when Link defeated its source and left, it ceased to exist because it had no dimensional anchors left." Which is actually a GOOD thing for Zelda lore in general, because it allows for expansion upon Hyrule in more ways. If temporal planes are a canon part of the Zelda mythos, then it means that there can be more temporal planes.

Termina did exist, but it wasn't on the physical world of Hyrule. Do you not know how to read properly? All or nothing is bullshit, you don't have to interpret everything as black and white.

As much as I love your post broseph, giving a lazy Nip and inch means they'll take a mile. Deus ex machinas are fine until your Zelda starts turning into Metal Gear Solid.

I suppose, but if we want to talk about departure of direction .. Breath of the Wild was closer to Skyrim than it was to Deus Ex.

Meant to say Metal Gear, but was distracted.

Don't worry, they're the same thing now.

I don't know why, but it makes me sad to hear that.

stfu lak

Zelda says Gannon used his resurrection power to turn into his final form at the end of the game, so it has to be the end of all the timelines.

You've been interacting with 20-somethings, anyone who actually lived through the Clinton years with eyes open and minds alert know exactly what and who the CIA are, and the NSA has become a matter of fact, consistently revealed to be spying more and more than mandate decreed.
Whether or not they feel the existential threat all of these things are generating, approaching, becoming every day is completely different.

The master sword was left in Ganon's head at the end of WW so here is a question we need to ask.
Did he give it back?
Does the master sword just poof back into wherever it needs to rest for the next hero?
Or have there been multiple master swords through history?

Agreed. Former wiki editor here. Believe it or not, wikis do have a way of worming themselves into part of the public consciousness…even the lesser ones. You may not personally visit them, but that doesn't mean it's not true. I can't tell you how many times entire texts of articles have repeated elsewhere, sometimes with outdated information or fanfiction-tier writing. I've even seen a certain popular YouTube channel or two regurgitate some of my research (uncredited and unsourced). Generally, people rely on wikis as an outright crutch rather than a starting point for their own research because they don't want to have to put in the effort if someone else has already done most or all of the work. Despite that, as I'm sure much of you have realized by now, accuracy isn't the primary focus of a lot of wikis like the original. Many of them are competing over first clicks in search results, so they present their content first and foremost in a way that attracts visibility. In their eyes, quantity is better than quality if it suits them, and facts are only worthy if they're popular enough.

That aside, on the topic of Zelda Wiki: I'm baffled that they are already accepting this info at blatant face value when they should be referring to their written canon policy, which was made in the event of these types of cases. One minute their director forces cited genders and pronouns (mostly reverted currently since no one actually wanted it), the next they're leaving out the whole disclaimer page basically saying not to take what the new book has to say too seriously? I'd expect this hypocrisy and irresponsibility out of Wikia. My only guess as to why the editors would support this barely-official revisionism is because they wish to one day be in Nintendo Dream's shoes just so they too can canonize their theories/headcanons or whatever (which, I swear, is a desire I've come across in an admin of another wiki, so it wouldn't surprise me).
