When I use my Wii or PS2 with component cables, they tend to lose signal at random for like a second or so. I blame it on shit cables since I tried it on several TVs with the same result. I attempted to use the RCA cables and the Wii looks decent enough, but PS2? Holy shit, did Sony drop the ball? It looks pretty bad compared to component. Now, I was an idiot and got third party component cables for both, so I'm blaming it on that. I can't get any official cables in my country and while I can afford a CRT, I don't have the space at home and I'm moving in a few months anyhow, so I might as well wait until I'm in my new home to get one. For the time being, what would you guys recommend? I can't afford a Framemeister. Is there any way to fix shitty component cables? Should I just deal with it until I move? Or maybe get one of those cheapo PS2/Wii to HDMI adapters?

Have you tried turning it off and then back on ?

Then it is very clear that you don't live in North America. Why not go RGB? Component is admittedly stupid compared to it.
If you think official cables mean much, you don't know electronics. Ignoring Retro-Bit's retarded Genesis 2 cables that are wired for mono sound, most 3rd party cables are fine.

I get by on s-video for everything from the Saturn, PSX, 3DO and N64 up, though I have HDMI and digital audio for my PS3 and PS4, thanks to a shitty optical decoder box that produces the nastiest sound ever as I don't have a digital receiver.

I live in Venezuela, so I sadly can't use RGB. I know official cables shouldn't mean much, but considering that I've had issues with the signal being lost and it happens on multiple TVs on my consoles as well as others, I can only blame the cables on that front. Either that, or really bad luck. Wish I could use S-video but my TV doesn't have that either. It only has composite, component and HDMI.

RCA cables cost a buck. They are obsolete trash that are often thrown away.

Here are some cheap shit ones.

local CRT autist here OP, just want to clarify a few things as I spent a lot of time studying video signals. The Wii and PS2 have pretty decent signals for Y/Pb/Pr RCA with many wii games supporting 480p like nothing. Make sure you enable it in the system settings. The PS2 has shoddy 480p support but it can be enabled in games that don't use field based rendering, but the Y/Pb/Pr signal is an obvious improvement over composite. make sure it's enabled in the settings as well.

You want to check the pinouts on the console part of the connection on both the cable and console itself. Make sure they aren't damaged or missing the necessary pins (look up the schematics on this, its very clearly labeled.)

HDMI adapters aren't worth it, and it's really a good idea to get a CRT especially for the PS2. Few 480p games makes 480i a shoe in, as LCDs can only do progressive images natively. If you can find a CRT with component rca you'll be in good company for quality.

Your problem probably is poor quality cables, and there are cheap official cables you can probably get from amazon. For PS2 you wanna get official PS3 component ypbpr cables since the PS2 ones are more expensive but they are identical cables. Poor shielding on the cables can cause issues as can poorly wired ones.

Why is that link so fucking long?

aliexpress is a magical hellhole where you get what you want after a month long magical ritual of sacrifice of chinese children and odd URLs

I have official composite cables dude, my problem is with component.

This is the kind of answer I was hoping for. Thank you bro. Do I have to worry about knock-off cables passing for official ones like Dualshock 2s' or is that not a problem?

are you going to be ordering from amazon? I don't know if they ship to you down there but you may have better luck with it. You can specifically find official cables easily. ebay is a disaster when it comes to that.

Use 2 sets of RCA composite cables to make the component connection.

They're good for buying stuff like pen lasers and flashlights, but not much else.

I like using them for repro carts for my shop. People love playing rare games and getting their own copies for cheap. Always labeled as repros.

They do but it's 50$ for shipping. I'll probably ship to my uncle and when he comes over for a visit he can bring them with him. Should be a couple of weeks.

Call me a faggot but… Wat?

its possible but complicated. Shipping sucks but you might not have the options for good quality.

Is it? How would I got about doing that? I have several sets of RCA cables laying around.

Nigga pls
They all use the same socket type. You don't need to colour match. I usually one 1 set for audio while leaving the yellow unplugged and use the other cable as red = red. green = yellow. blue = white.

The systems have proprietary multi-out ports. Adding component ports to the systems themselves is more effort than it's worth, to just be able to use any old RCA cables.

Sorry man, I forgot about that shit. It's been a while since I saw a PS2.

on a ps2? Rewiring the cables. An RCA cable is just an RCA cable, you'd need to clip them rewire the cable itself, that or like others were suggesting add RCA ports to the console itself. Really not worth it! Just go for the official cables.

Yeah, way more trouble than it's worth. I'll just go official until I can get a nice CRT. Shit, then people wonder why others emulate.

...

That's quite disingenuous!

That's how I connect stuff in my setup. I use two Three-Way Switches to connect a Xbox, a PS2 and a Wii.One for image, the other for sound. Works perfectly.

Not very relevant but OP's image should be posted more often because people still confusing which is which triggers the fuck out of me. Like I've seen this comment so many times like "lol he still uses component cables", it's the same shit as HDMI with 1080p at least, the only real difference is the amount of cables. Sure it's not used as often nowadays because HDMI is more convenient but it still stands.

Ypbpr is a pretty low quality component signal. If you want a comparable result to hdmi, or a better result you would use rgbhv bnc. Component ypbpr is a bit of a hacky standard that combines a few signals, creates its picture info through subtraction and estimation math. I can tell you more, but im phone posting and it's a little long winded. In short 4:2:2 even at 480i isnt as good as 4:4:4 analog for very obvious reasons.

Images are comparing graphics with Composite and graphics with HDMI, you do not put Composite cables in the HDMI adapter, the adapter goes directly into the Wii and only uses HDMI cables in the setup.
That little adapter also Upscales the game to 1080p, so it's an win-win situation.
I have one myself and it is wonderful.

I tried my Wii component cables with my Wii U since it has the same port. It looked horrible compared to HDMI. Colors were washed out and had a yellow tint. On the other hand, both component and HDMI on my bluray player look nearly identical in quality.

sounds like a color balancing problem or bad cables. Did you switch the wii u color space when you tested it? Are you sure the cables were plugged in tightly?

the comparison is really flawed. Should have used wii y/pb/pr 480p out to hdmi at 480p. It's using a composite signal which is the second worst you can get, and comparing it to a component signal sent thru an upscaler.
