I actually heard from it first here, I then downloaded the beta and played abot 50 hours of it, I liked it a lot so I bought it because it was cheap (about 30€) I then played 100 hours and then unistalled it and I didn't touch it since, I don't regret my 150 hours because I found the game very fun, but I do regret a lot my 30€, even if it's concretely pretty much nothing, the fact that I supported Pitchford make me wince. I didn't know anything about the guy and the devs at the time, I honestly based my judgement 100% on the game

I mean, when a friend bought it for me, on the condition to play it together, I didn't even know the game was out.

And then the spiral downwards happened: shitty optimization on EVERY map, most of the cast was boring, with some exceptions, boring levels, boring story, broken gameplay because on PC snipers were gods and on console they weren't, slow huge updates that took ages because console/pc parity… but we all know that.

But back to my previous point, I don't think the game was hyped at all. Specially when it was overshadowed by Overwatch. But I could be wrong for all I know.

It's f2p overwatch that started off okay but is now literally p2w since hi rez is retarded and is pulling T:A again by adding a third currency that you use to buy cards that sometimes dramatically change your stats and abilities.

Compared to just about every other game I've posted, it was hyped as hell.
I sure as hell don't remember Dominions 4 or No More Room in Hell showing up at any major game conferences.

All I remember about battleborn before it released was A SINGLE video from The Know I was linked to and told to watch on a dare.
Got a hundred for it a week later.

Just from the video I embedded earlier, stillborn had a conference somewhere, an IGN feature, and at least one tourney.
You may not have seen it, but between that and the reported budget, it's enough to count as "hyped-up AAA release," especially compared to the comparatively ancient Battlefront 2 and AoE 3, the extremely niche SoaSE and Guilty Gear, and the previously mentioned Swedish history professor's hobby project.

Seriously, for the amount gearbox invested in this shit the return is downright shameful.

Its a fantastic failure, they sunk more into this than Borderlands evidently and it backfired incredibly.

Played it for a while since got it super cheap. The gameplay itself was pretty fun, but it needed more and better maps and game modes. Also, it ran like shit on my older rig. Big mistake for a game that wants to maintain solid player base.

Some of the characters are okay. Just the symptomatic problem of the MOBA aspect where they just create a wide range of characters who have very little cohesion that they belong in the same universe. I'm assuming they come from different planets but that doesn't excuse it when there are characters that are literal caricatures of human anatomy when some don't even follow a somewhat similar style. Loadout! has a more consistent design than Battleborn.

Battleborn character design is mixture of lack of cohesion, too overly designed and yet turns out generic. Who would want to play these characters, let alone make porn of them?

At its core its a pretty decent game but it has a LOT of small issues that end up being very frustrating. Worth checking out if you want something to stomp around in, impossible to take seriously with all the issues and the other problems that come with F2P games, you don't run into English players often even at the higher ELOs and cheating is very easy to do since the anti cheat is practically non existent. I probably have another 300 hours on the game at least from pre-steam release and I'm sitting in the top 1% in win loss/time played for context.

HiRez tends to balance more around the casual players then the skilled players so they make a lot of stupid choices but few devs don't do that.

They back stepped on that hard, the third currency is still stupid as shit but its a complete non issue now. If you play the game to the point you even notice the different loadouts you'll have more then enough essence to get everything you need. I only play the daily wins and I have enough essence to unlock all the content for the next few releases even if I stopped playing for a while. Next patch they'll be allowing the disenchant of useless cards too.

I'm surprised it even stays that high, especially with so many releases coming out lately.

In terms of shitty f2p games to lose time to, you could do much worse. I don't think it would be worth starting unless you really needed an FPS fix and really enjoy payload style game play. I enjoy it far more then I do OW but your mileage may very. Buy reflex and get good at that instead, more rewarding.
