Also, to add I think the first part of that post is even bullshit.
Yeah, if anything the bots are programmed to look at what weapon you're using and select a tactic out of a list to counter you.
For example, the player has a railgun so the bot has to dodge and get in close using the shotgun. Now the player character has a rocket launcher, well now the best thing to do for the bot is to retreat while staying away from walls and probably use a weapon like the plasma gun.
That being said, Q3 bots are pretty good and it forever annoys me that games can have enemy AI that tears your shit up and pushes forward right into your face while your teammate AI barely walks forward without assistance.

I wonder if I could make "happy" AI someday that becomes intelligent, but doesn't mind me programming it to try and kill the player or other CPU and respawn eventually? After I finish making a game someone could look in and see a little closed space in the files that seems custom tailored to certain enemies. It has a special coding that basically corresponds only with that particular CPU and they can basically glitch to go in it and the player is exclusively incapable of reaching. The only obvious problem with this possibility is if they go in it prematurely or stay in it too long and don't fucking load up for a battle. Make them earn their right to rest, I guess.

without Overwatch I have a feeling this game would do even worse and without Battleborn I doubt Overwatch would've done as well. people love to make comparisons.

That's bullshit. First of all, vanilla quake bots don't have neural networks, they just use aimbots they literally are aimbots and run from one powerup to another while plinking at enemies using a navmesh and basic pathfinding algorithm. And second of all, when neural network is pitted against another neural network, they become killers of extreme prowess and wit. Even if they are programmed to be punished for dying, which is the most retarded thing ever in an arena shooter, it will only make them play cautiously and master the art of fire evasion. They will still attack everything they see.
