In the original comic, Robotnik made Sonic's shoes for him after he wore out his pair of sneakers.

Now i'm just guessing here for fun, but I think the gold piece at the end of the white stripe is what tricked you.
The Soap shoes had the Light speed dash upgrade which adds the Green at the back of the shoes making them Stand out more and with the upgrades showing to Cutscenes you payed more attention to how they looked.
The Green part never returned but the gold made the color scheme stay the same so unless you real stopped and looked at Sonic's shoes you just assumed he's still wearing the soap shoes.

In Sonic Labyrinth Robotnik tricks Sonic into wearing a pair of shoes that are really heavy or something and get stuck on his feet and slow him down. So maybe he makes regular big shoes to fund his empire.

It's only canon to the comics, which are a very, very different continuity to the games.

Here's the actual first Sonic comic. Any pages missing is because they're untranslated text pages. It adapts Sonic 1, and the Sonic 1 manual explains that this isn't the first time Sonic's fought Eggman, it's just the first time the Chaos Emeralds were involved. Sonic doesn't have an origin, other than being some sort of echidna prophecy. Same with Eggman. Only he does have backstory regarding his grandfather and cousin.

Uh… yes they did. Sonic Adventure clarified very well by continuing directly the story arc from the Japanese Genesis manuals, and ignoring and contradicting all sorts of shit from the American adaptations.

People say they couldn't make a Sonic adaptation that doesn't contradict the games and add tons of new characters who are more important than the canon characters. Well here we go. And Sonic 1 is the game that really doesn't have a story. Sonic 2 is where all the lore with Chaos really starts. Not to mention Tails.

Robotnik is still his canon surname. Eggman is a nickname. However, the American comics tried to explain that, after Sonic killed Dr. Robotnik, a Robo-Robotnik from a universe where Robotnik won and turned himself into a robot (there are two of these universes because the writer forgot his own backstory that he gave to Robo-Robotnik in his first appearance when he did his second appearance three issues later) came to Sonic's universe because he was bored with his victory and figured he'd fill the void caused by Robotnik-Prime's death.

Robo-Robotnik 2 put himself in a new body that looked pretty much like the Adventure design of Eggman, and he went crazy and started calling himself Eggman. Then aliens made his robot body organic. And thus, in the comics, Robotnik and Eggman were actually different guys.

Years later they did a time altering event that didn't really change much except erasing this bullshit and just making it so Eggman and Robotnik are the same guy, like in the games. Then later they did another reboot to erase the majority of comics continuity and replace it with the games, because the comics continuity was shit.

ArchieSonic is one of the most batshit insane things you could ever read. Unfortunately it's also terribly written and thus boring. If it was at least competently written it could maybe make for a pretty crazy fun time.

The main writer on the comic for 10+ years is only the main writer by virtue of openly not even reading issues written by anyone else, so other people would do a story trying to adhere to everything, including what Penders wrote, but Penders would come along and write more shit that contradicted what the other people wrote, so next time they'd have to try to fix it.

Also Penders just forgot stuff he himself wrote. Like how in the space of only three issues he accidentally gave Robo-Robotnik two different origins, resulting in later writers saying that there were actually two different Robo-Robotniks but the first one only ever appeared that one time.

Penders also openly didn't play the video games the series was based on, and frequently claimed he created Sonic and the Freedom Fighters, despite not even working on the comic until like issue 14 or something. And of course the comic is based on shows which are based on games.

So Penders just used the comic, with the editor who was not paying attention, to publish his own stories that were already rejected by every publisher in the business, by saying that all his characters were Knuckles' family (he either didn't know or didn't care that the whole point of Knuckles is that he's the last of his kind). So there were dozens of guys that were just Knuckles in different clothes. Years later, due to Archie Comics' legendarily terrible management "losing" the original copy of his contract right around the time he quit, Penders would successfully sue to the copyright to his Knuckles' recolors, and to this day he says he's gonna publish it as his own original smash hit comic. Not only is it supposed to be a sequel to his work on Sonic, he's too autistic to not have Knuckles be a main character. He's just making him wear a hat (like he wore in the OVA) and calling him a different name.

Of course the instant he publishes it Sega, not Archie, will have to step in and sue him into oblivion. But he claims to believe his case is airtight, that his characters are in no way based on Knuckles or any other Sonic the Hedgehog character.

I wouldn't say that. There's a lot of mundane individuals in the spectrum surrounding Sonic, too. However, the exceptional always stands out, and the sheer girth of the autistic backdrop means that there will always be a fanbase to keep the most entertaining folks engaged, productive and fed with the attention they seek.

Penders is liberal in the way Chris Chan is liberal. He calls himself a feminist but his stories frequently revolve around female characters acting irrationally because of love and shit like that. Lara-Su really isn't that different at all from Rosechu.

Penders is pretty much just a luckier Chris Chan who actually got paid for his comics for a while. Also Chris Chan's work is better. Chris is a modern Henry Darger and one of the greatest historical figures of the early 21st century.

At the end of the day, with Archie Sonic's cancellation on the horizon, Penders will be the most remembered thing about the Sonic comics.

Well on the other hand, Penders is also threatening EA and Bioware, claiming that Sonic Chronicles infringes on the copyrights of his Original Characters Do Not Steal. This is of course bullshit, because the characters he claims were ripped off are just the enemies of the ancient echidnas, which were referenced in Sonic Adventure before he made any comics about them (plus the Bioware version is pretty different). But then some 70 year old judge isn't going to care about the continuity of Sonic the Hedgehog, and may well say that they infringed on the copyright Penders later won. And you know what? So be it. EA and Bioware both need to be taken down a peg.
