The added characters are a nice touch, in my opinion. It's pretty much the only instance of a kickstarter game coming out and actually making what they promised. All the physical copy kikery bothers me, but the game itself is pretty decent. If only all "retro-inspired" indie games could be at least as good as Shovel Knight, maybe the industry wouldn't make me want to kill myself.

Shovel Knight is good, I thought Plague Knight was bad; lazy reuse of levels not designed for the changed gameplay with a couple of token changes sprinkled in, constant pausing to fuck with the inventory. Yeah most of Plague Knights shit was really disappointing, the last fight and the new areas specific to him in each of the levels were really good though. From what I remember seeing it seems like for Specter they're not going to have any reused stuff but who knows.

Game was great. Don't feel like replaying it but it certainly is one of the good retro indie games along with Cave Story, VVVVVV and La Mulana.

I'm pretty sure the whole original Shovel Knight was a love letter to Nintendo, with full rip-offs to a lot of NES conventions (the Duck Tales attack, the world map, fighting all the bosses again near the end, CastleVania-style eerie music in the final tower, etc).

So they should be proud they actually got to be in Nintendo consoles.

My best bet is that they'll add modding tools at the very end, or at worst a level editor to make custom challenges. I hope it's the former, if for nothing else than it'd be entertaining to make Kaizo-style bullshit in Shovel Knight's engine

PC version is the worst because no PC related company is going to give them money to develop anything exclusive. Console makers want their consoles to look more appealing and exclusive content is the best way to do that and paying indie devs to make their multiplats a little more appealing on a console is an easy thing to do. The only one who would maybe be in a position to pay for PC incentives would be Valve but we all know they don't give two shits about individual game quality.
