When I'm going into the game with the intent of self-inserting I almost always go as a male with the name of a literary protagonist or something along those lines and dive right into things. The same is true for completion-type runs where the goal is to get as much done as possible.

When I want to seriously role-play as a specific character instead of self-insert I will almost always make a female. I usually get pretty bored playing a dude that isn't me, but playing a woman that isn't me is generally alright. Plus it often means having more fun with the whole customization process for equipment and appearance. Sometimes I just stop character customization for my self-inserts as soon as I get the presets to look like a celebrity of politician or something and go with that as the name instead. Not so much with the females. Those usually have an intent going in.

I still find it funny that all the millions of pronouns can be bogged down to a couple of yes/nos on a menu. Oh, and the pregnancy menu need not exist for practical reasons, being that no matter how trans you are only biological women can get pregnant.
