It's me. Tomb Raider-kun again. Last off I was playing Tomb Raider 2. Played the fuck out of it either in 1 weekend or 2. Can't remember. Either way I didn't play the game for at last a week or more because I had been playing it in drabs and the levels got slightly less fun. But lo' and fucking behold I was like 3-4 rooms away from finishing the game where I decided to take a break from being a little steamed out, after all these are not games for retards.
So I cleared the game today with about 20 something minutes of play. Really would've been great if I had finished it properly and so the epilogue actually operated as the cooldown it's supposed to with all the buildup you do towards the end, tougher enemies etc.
I finished Tomb Raider 18 months ago so it's hard to remember much but I think I might prefer it to 2. But at the same time the nature of the game doesn't allow that to say very much. The levels all feel very self contained. It's a pure game. You could swap them from one game to the other. It's just I loved the goddamn deep sea section with the sunken ship and the snow/chinese tomb didn't have the same fun.
Next I'll try Tomb Raider 3 I guess. I already played it to past Area 51 before, so I was quite a few levels into the game but my save files are off in the void somewhere and probably best just start over anyway.
Just came upon this but the fag who made GLIDOS is giving it away for free right now. You need this to play the first game with the HD textures. Cost me like 10 euros if I remember.

Because the game was probably the most annoying game to get working for more than 10 years due to the game disc being structured as an audio CD, it needed special plugins and a rip formatted correctly which were hard to come by. In fact it was easiest to emulate a PSP converted version of the game because of all the hassle. I know because I'm old enough to remember and we had this thread several times over the past 2 years even on here.
I'm impressed PSX games no longer look like shit that they've decided to tackle the lack of Z buffer (or whatever it was) in emulation. I'll be looking into playing some PSX games now that my eyes can stomach them. You've opened up a whole new world for me user.
I never owned a PSX myself. The PC versions of Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and Tomb Raider are the best versions of those games, but it won't stop the playstation kids shilling year after year.

PSX-user implied the PSX emulator was easier to get going than PC (among other things) when that wasn't exactly the case until recently, but he has delivered results to his credit.

OpenTomb is the more advanced of the two, but OpenLara looks more impressive because the dev is concentrating on graphical candy.

Chronicles is considered to be not that good but it's the last of the old style that's decent (angel of darkness does not exist). It's a kind of engine hell deal like RE3 vs Code Veronica where the previous game is more technically advanced if I remember right. Last Revelations is considered to be good, very long, more like the original Tomb Raider and is still in pretty good shape.
Tomb Raider (((Steam))) sale ends in 25 minutes. It's like $2 per game.

Haven't played the game myself outside of once at at a video game store demo 15 years ago or so. Only Tomb Raiders I've beaten are 1&2, I've played quite a bit of 3, few hours of Revelations and a few minutes of Chronicles. Take anything I say with a grain of salt. I've combed most of what I know over the years. It could be good but I rarely hear good things at all.
