I think that this is just gonna reinforce the fact that Valve is just gonna focus on steam and skin market like the jews that they are

What was the last game that valve made?

Portal 2, back in 2011.

Portal 2 I think.
The point is that developers at Valve can just get their desk and move on to what project they want. So you have a lot of bizarre stuff like a TF2 map that was supposed to release on launch being release just now because the guy doing it just found something else to do, or a big space sim development being abandoned because the leads got bored and no one wanted to pick it up.

what has he even been doing for the last few years? portal 2 was quite a while ago you know.

They took 6 years to fire that faggot?

they are joking, idiot, troll?

look at the box

I'm not very surprised, frankly.

...

Doesn't seem like it

Considering how busy they've been in the last 6 years, It really does look like what an office would have.

It must be some kind of company tradition giving candy as a farewell gift.

That jacket looks really comfy. Where can I buy one?

Yeah because those guys were the only writers in this world, Valve just can't hire anyone else

It's kinda telling about the state the company is in when all their staff starts leaving. No shit developers who want to work on something are going to quit.

Valve is incredibly out of touch. I don't think they'll be around forever.

Checked. However, given the name of that brand of booze, I'd be willing to be he bought all that shit for personal consumption at work.

Probably on Old Navy or Target

What good games did they write, if any?

Looks like some okkie shit I got from Wal-Mart years back. The inside is like a normal rain/winter coat but the outside looks like a flannel shirt, some versions adding in a fake hoody under the flannel for that little bit of extra trailer trash chic

I wish the same happened to Doug Church, he has too much talent to be working with these hacks.

Was warm and comfy as fuck though. Just check places that aren't traditionally fashion, like said, Target might, used to see them at Costco, Kmart, look online probably searching flannel jacket

Mainly the Portals. They were pretty much the main reason why Portal ended up being a quirky sci-fi game with black humor.

Reminds me of how Maxis used to give their employees grilled cheese sandwiches as a gift to them. Which is why there were easter eggs left in their games about grilled cheese.

They actually have a huge snack area at Valve, supposedly one of the biggest ones of any company, so the huge amount of snacks is kind of a running joke, and I guess since this is his last day he just grabbed a bunch from the snack table since he'll never see it again so he may as well take a lot on his last day.

Any place that sells work wear should have something like that and they are pretty comfy. Look up Padded flannel jackets if you're having trouble.

As a dev they're done even if DO release HL3, unless it comes with a cure for cancer, it's not gonna live up to expectations But they've future proofed their existence to hell and back with steam. They're gonna be around forever.

How disgusting.
Encouraging people to drink sugary drinks and eat sweets while sitting on their ass all day is not a great corporate environment.

Gabe is a fat kike

It's not all junk. And they do serve real food and have places cater to them all the time.

But they said they were making 3 VR games. Are they going to be social games only ?

Toblerone?

I mean, that's what people have said about other businesses I'm sure. They still went out of business because something better came along. Eventually steam will be so shitty that the average consumer will grow tired of it, and someone else will see it as an opportunity to introduce an alternative.

The life of the rich is truly disgusting, hope Gabe chokes on it soon.

And it's always a bargain for the employer.
A catered meal in bulk will cost $5-10, and you'll get an additional 1-2 hours out of a high cost employee like a developer for that because they feel obligated to stay.

holy fuck what is wrong with valve

I fucking despise this mentality. There shouldn't be anything expected of it but to be a good game. It's not as though the game has been spending all this time in actual development.

Of course, the forever bit is an exaggeration. But considering these two are it's biggest competition I think it will take a good while of steam decreasing in quality before they finally kick the bucket. What other "alternitives" are there anyways? Humble Bundle works through steam keys, gamefly is dead, and I can't even recall anything else.

There's already GoG, which lets you install games on as many machines as you want and lets you play them while offline.

The only way up from there would just be to pirate games which most of Holla Forums already does.

What qualifies as good?

GOG is centered around old games and all their games are basically torrents anyway and none of the AAA shit normalfags like is ever going to be on there because no DRM. They love steam because it has a lot to convince people to actually buy the game and it's hard to get a cracked version of a game on steam with working multiplayer. For GOG to take steam's place it'd have to chance a lot.

Origin and Uplay are a joke, people only use them to play the respective games that release on them.
Aside from Itch.io and GoG there's not much I can think of, but that can always change.

GoG isn't as popular because steam has a monopoly as a distribution service, but like I said, once steam dies and GoG gains more publisher interest it could become more popular, if there's nothing else that seems more attractive to people.

Take Discord for example, it seems to have become popular over night because steam group chats are fucking shit and Skype has become awful over the years. People wanted an alternative because they've been fucked in the ass for too long.

God damn, I say. God damn.
So this essentially a confirmation that they will continue jack shit in the future.

They look like what your regular Strelo/k/ would wear in his day to day. I want one.

Knowing them they will leave them to rot like every idea they don't know how to integrate into a game. I don't understand what people see in Valve anymore. They do the exact same shit that CoD does except on a company scale: Have gameplay elements or mechanics that can be made into a fully fledged game with a little effort, but they shelf them/use them once and leave them to rot forever. I kinda wish they had some sort of developer training program where they say "here, we have this mechanic we never used, you have a year and X amount of money to make a game. If it's good then you're hired", solely for them to actually have someone working at that fucking whorehouse they call company.

It should not come out at all. Just let this fucking franchise die already. The intrigue died within 3 years of EP2 ending. That's what should happen, but considering the obnoxious casual gamer "gamer cred" bullshit everybody will buy it because "it's Half-life".

i use steam for its original purpose. a game marketplace. don't give a shit about a gay "player economy market" don't give a shit about achievements don't give a shit about friend feeds. steam drm is still cracked day 1. the only people who might jump ship are the kids valve targets by skirting gambling laws and even then they'll still be making money just not the disgusting amounts from the freemium shit they push.

and who still cares about half life? if half life 3 came out it would just be another generic fps in an already saturated market that everyone hates

Basically this
GOG is not a real competitor at the moment.
DRM free is a hard sell for game publishers, as even steam's simple DRM system will stop the most damaging casual piracy.
That leads to a cycle of low number of game releases leading to low install numbers.

Origin and Uplay are known as cancer and there are so many games to play that I just ignore anything that requires installing that crap.

It'll all come back as soon as they do one of their ARGs. I sorely miss HL2, but after seeing how Portal 1 to Portal 2 devolved, I'm not sure I want to see HL3.

Hey user, I just remembered that I bought a shit like that one in Target, I bought it on December so I don't know if they still have them.
Hope this helps

They own a monopoly, which is never good. It might not be that bad right now but I reckon they'll start trying to fuck people out of money whenever they see an opportunity arise.

Good.

This mentality exists for a reason. If you took 12 years building a house or painting a picture, everyone would expect it to be pretty damn good house or painting considering it took so long. Even if you only threw an hour or two at it for a day there's still a considerable amount work that has gone into it.

But in terms of video games, taking too long is counter productive. The market moves to fast, the technology has advanced past whatever you had to start out with, and some stuff may just not be "hip". Then there's the hype about it having taking so long. It just doesn't work out.

Origin at least gives out free games time to time, and Uplay achievements act as a kind of currency to buy shit. But both are like the band centric Gutiar Hero's in that you may enjoy Aerosmith but by the 50th song you've had enough.

Other then that they're both pretty poor in comparison to steam for stability and interface.

And yet for some insane reason, you can now buy some modern EA games like Saboteur or Dragon Age Origins or the first Dead Space DRM free. I think this proves that they will abandon Origin, soon, or maybe the games were so "old" that they didn't care if people pirated the GoG version.

I remember reading about a painter that was so dissatisfied with his work (even though it was fine), that he regularly painted over his work, to the point that the paint bulges out of the canvas.
When a game takes too long to come out, remember that. All you'll get is bloat.

Half Life 3 = dead

Long time writer or fresh writer?

Makes me want to vomit how can you eat this shit daily?

Half Life 3 might not be dead yet
[spoilers]you don't need writers for a VR game[/spoilers]

well i fucked that up

It's the latter. When products stop generating revenue, there's no point left to protecting them. All three of those games are 8+ years old and I'm pretty sure at least one or two of them were given away on Origin already.

There's this tiny part inside of me that wants to stuff my face with sweets and candy until I can't breathe, but the reasonable part tells me that's a bad idea. If I worked at Valve I'd probably kill myself with chocolate, honestly. For various reasons.

You're right, but the opposing argument being that you bring in a new canvas and start from scratch.

For most games (and art in general), it just means that it's a flawed idea that the artist is trying to patch over to make workable.
But sometimes it means people learned from their mistakes and started against from scratch.

it fucking sucks/10

Think abbout it, you'd basically be losing money if you didn't eat it.
Better to work for a proper company that pays you in money, not sugar.

Would it kill them to have some fucking pommengranate? Some fruit or other?

I knew Valve was full of tasteless faggots.

all free?

Now you know why the fatman is so fat. I bet he's going to have a minor stroke and the fear of god will be put into him, after that he'll realize that he needs to finish HL before it kills him, writer or no writer.

Honestly, beats me. That stuff could be in the regular fridge, but they should at least have a bunch of bananas, or smoothies in that giant fucking Kwik-E-Mart fridge.

No, you pay for it with your time.

In more than one. HL:VR is a different indexed game than HL2P3.

That sounds like the modding community yet somehow with less fire in their belly.

I myself don't really like sweet shit that much and if it eat too much of it I'll just feel like shit, salty stuff like chips are alright in my opinion but I still think that would start tasting like shit after eating it every day at work as well.

You sure have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to paint a business who treats their employees well to be evil. Socialist logic is so fucked up.

With the amount of money they have they could afford some excellent imported fruit, but they waste it in the incarnation of excess. Personally, I'd have professional chefs in the company cafeteria so that they can eat some decent fucking meal in their day to day. Pretty sure they can afford that.

i drank this shit a lot in high school. then i switched to legitimate coffee and now im so used to it, i dont understand how anyone can drink that bottled stuff now, its hardly even actually coffee flavored

I work for such an employer and lean towards Holla Forums rather than Holla Forums.
It's not treating your employees well, as employees should be cooking and eating dinner with loved ones, not at the office infront of their monitor.
I have no problem with companies working their employees to death for 8 or 9 hours, but then let them go home to recuperate. It makes them healthier and more productive in the long run.

They're game devs.

This is actually somewhat true. I worked a job where the company bought pizza and all sorts of junkfood and energy drinks and coffee and and and and

…but after awhile, I started to wonder why. And I figured out why pretty quick. They didn't want us to go home. They would rather spend a hundred bucks on pizza to keep us there 2-3 more hours and make that pizza up a thousand times over in sales.

It's a dirty trick, really.

...

Or even by themselves in a moment of peace and respite.
Regardless, buying your employees dinner so they work for 10 hours a day instead of 8 is not helping them.

Like a food court? That's not a bad idea, considering that hospitals, schools, and museums have them I know they're for visitors/students but that's besides the point. Change the menu once in a while with seasonal fruit/drinks/etc for variety, and they could be good to go.

valve has a massage room and so much more. Its kind of a way of making the employees so comfy they wont have to go home and just keep working.

Face it Holla Forumsack you got caught out. All your radtrad whinging reveals your ignorance about the lives of real people.

You mean the real people who get free meals?
I've been accused of being both Holla Forums and Holla Forums so far this thread.
I think you all need to get out more.

It's hard for me to have sympathy for the fucks not having enough self control to clock out from work. They get a nice comfy workplace and free time to not being working if they choose to. It's not like they're in the military.

You're right.
It still takes some balls to stand up and leave with the 10 people around you are still working and you know they won't be leaving for another could of hours.

But see, what I want to know is, What are they WORKING ON?

Half Life? Shit, this'll be a fully explorable planet with all the 'work' they put into it at this point.

Is it their weird Gadgets? Like VR and Steambox? They seem to have employees, writers and level designers and artists and all sorts of people that aparently make games, but all that Valves seems to do now is support steam.

Sure you got Tech support people, and IT guys, and all that to run the damn thing

But what are the writers doing? The Artists? Are they sitting around getting jerked off by Hans in the massage room?

What do they DO at Valve?

I don't know. If I made it in before the lock and my company had a magic money making program installed on every 12 year old's laptop that allowed me to literally do fuck all I would probably be at the snack bar masturbating.

Your insane "hurr muh family shit". Normal people don't have families these days. Maybe you should worry more about fixing that.

Their desks have wheels so they can relocate to avoid doing work.

If they're dumb enough to work without pay then that's their own bad. But in this case, you're right - the problem is that they have no balls. They're weak men who nobody loves.

tag your pomegranates/gore asswipe

Why the fuck would you leave the gravy train? I bet the dude just went to his office and drew dicks in MSPaint for 40 hours a week making like a half mil a year.

It's been that long? I still remember faggots defending it being 4 hours long.

fuck every company whose mo is to drive everything popular into the ground at the expense of the entire cultural field of interactive entertainment for so many fucking year. history will resent these shit-men

Good, fuck valves fanboys.
Fuck valve, and fuck those who defend and support them.
You got what you deserved, thanks to forced third party software everywhere, greenlight, and now monetised mods pushed until they are allowed you have killed PC gaming. Oh you rant about consoles hardware holding us back, but not even that was damaging enough to harm mods and communities. Valve is the worst thing for PC gaming ever.

I like how none of the quotes besides the first one are true

The email list leakswherever intentional or not show that they at least have projects they seem to work on but the catch is that according to some voices of ex employees the "free love gamedevelopment man lmao" motto leads to nothing but social drama and clique shit stalling any work some people might actually put into them.

I hope I am wrong though and we are getting aleft 4 dead 3

That pretty much sums up Valve.

I got to take a peek in there during the Holla Forums meetup years back.
They got chefs man, chefs

I think you need to get out more.

To be honest I've not been employed for long but it's already clear to me that 60-70% of the office building is a trap.

There's actually three kitchen/dining areas. The main one with the big snack bars that posted is the most unhealthy, and closest to the more active offices. It's also the most stocked, unlike the "fruit bar" which is far at the back of the office, away from the front door and so is the furthest distance to walk from the active offices.

When I say "active offices", I can tie this in to a reply to - Valve actually have a lot of empty office space, used now as storage (For hardware, or secret stuff that most of us know fuck all about). Prior to my entry, it was suppsoedly a packed office building but people have been leaving more and more.

I had a conversation with another employee in the main lounge, and he mentioned that in his time there, a psychologist was subtly toured around the building headed by Gabe himself, and it's supposed amongst a few of the staff that it's directly related to more recent redesign of office and lounge layouts, overall bringing the "active office space" to be within a rather short walk from the snack food, and the lounge areas. Co-incidentally, one office space was actually converted into a "quiet room" with brand new, super soft and comfortable couches that people often use to take a nap before getting back to work.

What says about the desks is true to an extent. The old ways of Valve's offices being wide open is pretty much a facade right now. Due to how the company has pushed to put more people into one office space, the "wheeled desks" now act like cars stuck in a big car park puzzle. The wheels only serve to move the desk out of the way of someone else who's coming through.

Market research, Keeping servers going, Handling lawsuits, Throwing ideas around, Going nowhere, Shipping hardware, and the RND half the staff don't get to hear about.

Didn't Marc Laidlaw leave eons ago? Eric Wolpaw isn't bad and all but it was Laidlaw who nailed "but shits interactive" side of things.

I had the opposite experience. We had food delivered and I just let when my work was done because I am not a retard

There is a point beyond which more money doesn't mean anything to a rational individual.

So they actually have chefs cooking actual food? Jesus fucking christ man. Everyone at valve must be fat as fuck or olympic tier athletes.

This is what I've expected. They don't make or care about games anymore it's just to gather market data to sell to the media and keep steam running.

The truth about Valve is that Gabe Newell is not an actual person but a title. Everytime one dies of heart failure, another employee takes up his mantle.

i know he is fat as fuck but is he trying control people mind with food? wtf

Remember, fat people only feel eat.

This man is wise.
I personally think Valve became what Gabe always tried NOT to be, with his company.
Thank goodness I began playing videogames on the PS1 and still play on PS4 everyday.
PC gaming is no more.

...

...

Think about a large store and how they routinely get a contracted analyst who will come up with arrangements of products that people are more enticed to approach and less entitled to approach - then position them in specific ways that make more desirable products closely positioned to less desirable products, placed further inside the building to try and sub-consciously cause people to buy more than they intended because they notice these things and think "Hm, I want this, but I just saw this and would like this too.."

This mirrors a lot of what I've hear, and it gives off some sort of sinister air. To me, at least.

You've probably seen this interview before, but other might not have, so I'll post this.

develop-online.net/news/valve-s-perfect-hiring-hierarchy-has-hidden-management-clique-like-high-school/0115316

It's what set me off of this bizarre company. Valve is touted to be a "super great place to work", and I mean, on a surface level it does look great. Snackbars, 'quiet rooms', Massage parlors. Hans.

But that's just it. It's a veneer of.. outwardly smiling. It unnerves me.

It's no bait, my friend.
Steam saved PC's for quite a while but it lived enough to become the villain.

I remember reading a job review of someone who quit a few years back. Very insightful stuff.
About a decade ago, around when TF2 released, Valve really seemed like the best place to work at in the industry, lots of amateur developers dreamed of it. But now they've turned into this bizarre company that still keeps a facade up, while making business decisions based on advice from hired psychologists. It's very strange.

That's nothing new. Most millennial hip companies are like that. A lot of fluff hiding a mess of mismanagement.

I wanna work for Valve. It is like my current university life - jump from project to project while still hungover from the party last week and sustaining myself on instant noodles. Guess I gotta get back to mapping, Hammer is the best tool for game making in my experience . Hell, I could make a game with just a series of maps in under half a year instead of fighting with Unity/Unreal4

Exactly. It feels like something killed and hollowed out the corpse of Santa Claus, but still does his "Ho ho ho, sit on my lap, come work at Valve, we have snackbars" thing.

It's both sad and sinister.

Either something else is up or it's simply because of money. They don't have to make games anymore to stay afloat and became fat and out of touch as a result.

never actually happened

(begone wicked devil)
You're right. Steam never really did anything but give PCs a bigger platform. For Steam to have "saved" PCs, it'd have to be dying first off. That goes both ways, too. Steam didn't save, nor harm PC gaming in and of itself, because alternatives are always viable. Like how the paid mods shitstorm always had places like Nexus Mods or Mega links.

The problem is what Steam did to gaming itself, not necessarily PC gaming.

(The dubs and trips are checked)
Make VALVe Great Again when? If anything what the company needs is a dev-user going in and razing hell. Maybe even beating up a psychologist? Hell, a shake down would be good enough, something hands on to wake them the fuck up from that drugged up dream

are you retarded

I swear, this is not the first time I see someone come up with a retarded plan like yours to fix something. I get the feeling it's the same guy.
You okay, man?

But they fucking haven't. It's pretty much common knowledge at this point that Valve hasn't been any work into a new game. The reason a new game hasn't even been announced, yet alone made is due to a complete lack of fucks given for the IP from them.

Anna Sarkasian is replacing him to write HL3.

guess we should tax their earnings some more to discourage them :^).

Checked.

Well, yes. It's a clear honeypot and it only becomes clearer being on the inside. The paygrade I'm on is pretty average, but it's a livable wage.

However, people have been leaving for a while - but since the Psych walk-through and the adjustments being made to the company, it's clear that they're trying to entice us to stay in their honeypot.

Why? Because the people that left were the real thinkers and idea guys, who would come up with a plan or a game idea. Now the people that are left are the programmers and tech support who keep the servers going. The "Good" writers and designers and artists have left because Valve haven't done anything game-related in forever except small time updates. Now, The big management are wanting to try and keep us in so that Valve actually have someone other than Gabe who can use a computer to do anything other than look at profit margins and spreadsheets.

Gabe sinked a lot of money that rolled in to RND and making hardware, but that's stagnated too. A lot of us don't even know what the plans are, what he does, what we're meant to do. We just turn up to get our time stamps and our pay check and hope we get something exciting to do.

the fuck is that shit, isnt that supposed to be toffifee?

I didn't say they were or were working on it. I was explaining to the other user why people think if something takes a while finish it should be good. That logic doesn't extend to stuff that will never finish If indeed they ever started. By the time Episode 2 released Steam was already printing money for them.

Also I don't understand why everyone is butthurt about greenlight. Devs were always releasing unfinished games, but at least now they have to properly label them as such, instead of packaging and shipping them as finished product.
When you say "now", you mean "in 2015"? And when you said "monetised", you mean "tried the idea, then dropped it almost immediately due to backlash"?
Oooh, evil vulva, revealing to everyone that major mod makers are actually greedy fucks.

Maybe I am retarded but that might just work. Time to think quantum thoughts and use 8 dice to roll for what decisions to take to be unpredictable.

I have one hell of a sweet tooth and this scares me a little. Working at Valve would be both a paradise and my death sentence. Jesus.

Eternal reminder

They have huge milk bottle things. I would down one of those in a day. Thanks to Finland for making me appreciate milk so much that a day without a glass of milk is pain…

I'd be dead within a week of being hired.

...

Yea that's what I snack on while I work over my expensive desktop. Red fruit that stains easily and is a hassle to actually eat. I fucking love pomegranate, but god damn anybody who "casually" eats that shit in public is retarded

Shitposting since 1000 BC.

Steal that shit, sell it to kids 50% off and buy formulas off Alex Jones = profit!

So far everything they've done is surface level shit. Paid mods or subscription fees would be what I'm talking about.

Can confirm, every second to third desk at vfx, vidya or advertising companies has a bottle of expensive whiskey on it.

The Marketing team at my office gets together to drink beer on Fridays. It happens.

Wait valve had a writer, for what they don't even make games anymore?

I'd rather my company give me fucking money rather than candy so I can spend it on my family, yes goy, consume the corn syrup!

For their comics

...

I thought it was being written (and stolen from the venture brother) by the tumblr artist

Their comics were the last good thing they did. And even then I wouldn't call them anything amazing.

Every character, item and cosmetic in Dota 2 requires some sort of backstory or blurb. There's also what said where both TF2 and Dota have comics.

I'd actually like Valve and steam to blow up and cease to exist. People don't see how cancerous and anti consumer valve is. Since Gabe is pushing paid mods whether or not it comes to light, I've decided to boycott steam entirely. Not that I've bought any games in the past 3 years but if there happens to be one I'll be sure to buy from the devs site or just pirate it.

Some of the DotA characters would make amazing characters in a game. Most of them just spam puns though.

single player game with a story*

And it's all for one employee

i've been there
they told us to help ourselves
my friend took a coke and i didnt know how to process it all
also there was a guy named tad who rode around on a scooter

Someone's got to fill that void.
Would you prefer EA or Uplay to do so? Cause it sure as hell won't be GOG.

How fat was tad?

...

Something bad must've happened if he's running off with Gaben's morning tea snack.

not fat at all
infact most people there were average build, gabe was out that day
also theres a cafe called specialties across the way which had some good food. lots of microsoft kiddies around since theyre valves literal neighbor

aka gabe's office

Sometimes that is a good thing. If your own devs can't get excited enough about a game to finish it, perhaps its best it does not see the light of day.
For every good project there are a lot of smaller ones that never got anywhere.

Valve is an irl Willy Wonka factory.

Actually the exact opposite, with consumption not production.

spoiler that shit

Why would they need writers? They run a digital store.

Can such people even post here?

We are on our way to post along people who grew up with a classic ds

18 year olds today were born in 98 and 99, long after the ps1 came out. Realistically people whose first console was a ps1 are in their 20's.
you're old, user

...

...

Looks like we're never getting Ricochet 2.

Portal 1 maybe… Portal 2 was pure memes writing-wise, too self-referencial and trying to be funny

How can this even be happening?

(Heiled)

Supposedly Gabe's done things like lay off the AR team when they weren't working fast enough (Even though Hololens is years off and Magic Leap is a scam) and laid off the the Linux team as soon as they were given partnership status with Windows 10 development.

Actually I hope you aren't in Hardware. HTC looks like its done and Gabe's going to be burning money to keep Vive afloat while they find a new partner.

I grew up with ps2 while getting late into consoles and even I feel old in a way. University is a waste of time, at least the retarded socialist government pays me to sit on my ass and drink myself asleep every day

What a waste of my childhood. Pics related were about the only games I had on the console

you missed out on a great console and should spend time getting to know its library better to refine your tastes

The LEGO Star Wars games are pretty fun, I had both of them on PS2.

the comic is good, i like the background of the tf2 universe. With all the different teams that were talked about like team vanguard (some super duper pro team never shown) defending mann co. and that the "fortress" team is like a washout "shits n giggles" team.

I just wish it didn't go all gimmicky with skins and then gutting quick play and replacing it with the same system overwatch has. Hell, i even enjoyed all the hats and i could (just barely) swallow australium weapons.

I traded it for a PSP when I was 13, it was my dad's coworker's. It was already hacked and had a shit ton of emulators on it. I didn't really get into "good vidya" until I was about 16 because I mostly just played movie licensed games or Gmod and TF2 until then.

The lego games are alright. Lego Harry Potter is better though

I was born in 98, but I started lurking imageboards around 2010, so when I was 12. They have seriously stunted my growth.

I started in 2003, but I still mostly lurk. I don't post often. My first console was an NES, but we had an atari and a commodore as well. Only used the Commodore for space taxi and hated the atari because we only had 1 game and it was shit.

no, your shit-tier genetics are to be blamed for that

It was all over a year or so ago when Marc Laidlaw and ten other Valve veterans left. Steam exists solely to make gaben money. Look for deals and games elsewhere.

I started browsing imageboards when I was in my early teens back around 2006/2007 and frankly it completely fucked my mental development and turned me into a massive, cynical asshole who couldn't really connect to people beyond a superficial level due to the paranoia 4chan induced in me about my fellow humans. That paranoia, as life taught me, was both founded and unfounded

I've started to see the differences in Jews and non-jews. It's funny, I can pick them up easier and my debate skills have improved.
Unlike others, imageboards haven't stunted my growth, they've helped me a ton! They still are!
I started lurking at 12
I'm 19 now
I am cynical like the rest now, I fucking hate anime and goon memes. I can't enjoy anything anymore but I CAN still make it through life.

I've been shitting on Valve for years, before even the paid mods horseshit, before steam being a pile of shit, but this hurts my heart really bad. Gabe has more money than anyone, he has the ability to make the most amazing gamedev studio on the planet, something that actually makes awesome shit that can cater to anyone and everyone. He could have casual shit, hardcore shit, console shit, PC only shit. Instead he sits on billions, guts his own office, and just makes an AMA on reddit or a stage talk at some conference every now and then.

Why…

AHSHSF

What really gets me is that everyone else would have run out of money long ago. John Romero couldn't maintain his sportscars and steaks game dev studio forever, but thanks to Gabenstein's pathologically-designed money printing operation the can has been kicked so far down the road that it's in another state by now.

My advice would be to stop browsing before you hit 20. There's no reason to keep bringing yourself back to these places. They're a waste of youth, time and brainpower. When I was a teenager, I always thought I would stop browsing before I became an adult. I never did. Frankly, I think imageboards and the particular outlook they frame life in will always be a part of me.

If you could make billions doing nothing while buying/forging shitloads of knives like an autistic fat fuck, you would. The guy has it made.

Why did PewDiePie make millions off of fake reactions and screeching into a camera?

gog and humble bundle both offer drm free games, with some caveats. they're the only stores i've bought from the past 2 years.

Should I at the very least come back for sources, research and the like? My birthday is in 2 months.

that's the thing, I wouldn't, I actually enjoy life despite my life being fucking shit, even disabled I try to get out to do shit like work my garden or play with my dogs as best I can because it makes them happy. Being rich doesn't make you lazy, it makes it easier to be lazy, but it also makes it easy to not be lazy, it goes in both directions. At the very least, even if I didn't want an active role necessarily, I'd certainly hire people to make awesome games, tell the company to do this and that "hey we should make an RTS, or new FPS, or RPG, or space sim", and just let them go at it and keep and eye on the developments.

I cannot sit idle, idleness is a shallow life.

Gaben probably follows his passions like forging and knives.

Honestly? No. There's nothing you can get here that you can't get from better places.

Bread and circuses to keep the peasants from rebeling. It's a tactic as old as time.

VR is a good fit for space sims, so it's likely that abandoned idea for a space sim that mentioned might be one.

Yeah Laidlaw's gone. That's when I saw the writing on the wall. Wolpaw has a talent too, but he wasn't the brains behind Half Life which is what made Valve in the first place. All shit's downhill from here man.

Mind giving me a clue to what those are?

My internet usage has become so focused on 8ch that I can't even tell you. You'll become like this too.

This is news? IIRC Gabe the jew said he wanted to focus on multiplayer and games as a service years ago.

I'm okay with this.

Will we see a L4d3?

Half-life was one of the first games I ever played together with Quake 2, Baldur's Gate and Unreal.

I actually feel privileged that I was a PC gamer in the Golden Age. I've actually BEEN in 1998.

And look now at what videogames has become. At least there's still glorious Nihon.

There's another thing similar to that called the Gruen Transfer, which happens in a large store with a confusing layout designed to confuse because then you forget why you went in there and spend more time (and thus are more likely to spend more money) while you're wandering around literally dazed and confused by some marketer's attempt at non-euclidean geometry.

mg survive is right around the corner.

yeah the enemy tank now hides behind a corner with charge ready just so he can shove anyone off a cliff real fucking graceful

You mean the age when action gaming started dying? The age when good imaginative settings started getting replaced by generic garbage and muh realism, and dynamic gameplays in sprawling maps started getting replaced by muh cinematics and graphics?

...

Those were the only things I was looking to Valve for. I've been buying most games off GOG anyways the past couple years.

NICE

that niggers like you still exist on this site
embarrassing

Thank you but just mean I am a torfag, we all get the same number

Lies, you're SPECIAL

My mom tells me that too.

I read this thread earlier and I just got this recommendation on (((youtube))).
How did they know.
HOW?
HOW DID THEY KNOW?
Im going crazy arent I?

Here I am still using plain old SIP voip, ventrilo, and sometimes teamspeak. Why are hipster faggots so dumb they have to reinvent shit that already works well?

I have a friend that works at Blizzard and all the people there do all day is drink and write code

I hate discord, shit is clunky and I don't particularly enjoy it retaining all the chat logs and shit. Also massively redundant with the fucking friends list and it detecting what games you are playing.

I strictly stick to thinks like mumble or teamspeak

Filter jewtube embeds, they legitimately track you. Dead serious.

GGAHHH OPH MY GOD! ododododod opopopoo PENIS IN BIUTT hahah COPULATIOn

You probably use chrome and view this site without a VPN

Enjoy your botnet

Games have a lot of pre-development time, they probably wrote a couple before now and they will be used later.
Not that it matters, the last Valve game I like was released 13 years ago

I know that user, but there are none in this thread.
Does google read Holla Forums? Is it contextually aware of what is discussed here? does the google AI know me better I know myself?
is it redpilled?

I want to work there now

Google spiderbots are banned so I'd double check.

forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2012/02/16/how-target-figured-out-a-teen-girl-was-pregnant-before-her-father-did/#515cbe6534c6

I like it

I'm sure that shit is better than they let on, it's a valuable asset after all.

was "every time you buy a tf2 key…" a joke?

Fucking hell, I have a stack of design documents that could be put to good use and with Valve's name attached would be an instant success. I'd get those programmers working on something great real fast. Not just an idea guy either, I do 3D modelling and level design work too.

thanks for the replies everyone, Im taking a break from the internet for a bit.
half-life 3 never ever and its for the best tbh

I'm not stupid enough to use chrome. Im a lazy idiot in everything else though.

How do we filter those? The only filter I've got is muh flouride

wew

what the hell, did they have oompa loompas too?

I wonder if they have to check that the coast is clear before grabbing something to eat, on the offchance Gabe's lurking around and will pounce them for taking his rations while he's present.

Valve made single player games?

REDPILL

There will never be a half life 3 because We are half life 3.
CERN IS black mesa.
The Large Hardron Collider is the Anti-Mass Spectrometer
Black Mesa created the Resonance Cascade
CERN created the Mandela Effect
It's called HALF-life because HALF of us remember half of life being different via the Mandela Effect Resonance Cascade

I can understand why anons could feel that way, but I posted this because of how I realized how deeply intertwined the events that are taking place are with videogames, specifically with Half-Life, that I know Holla Forums is always talking about and hoping for a sequel (half-life 3) but I came to the realization that We, as in Us in real life, are the sequel.

imdb.com/title/tt2548396/?ref_=cs_ov_tt
imdb.com/title/tt2697688/?ref_=tt_rec_tti

just like space is a deception- quantum suicide, and parallel universes are also a deception. dimensions are different however, (dimension definition: a part or feature or way of considering something)

look at all the signs that show how much the agenda seems to want to push the idea the CERN is responsible for the mandela effect, like the image where they hold the sign. this is actually a deception because God is responsible for the mandela effect, "The changing of the way we are considering our reality".

there's no other universe. there is no "in my universe it was like this" we are here and things are changing here. as I showed in the other link they are even making a movie about cern and mention reality being altered.

don't confuse this with heaven, which is the real universe. our universe (here on earth) is the fake matrix, and in the fake matrix here, we are experiencing the mandela effect. (context, reference)

forgot image

yeah i know, i just wish i knew how to pull the strings

what strings? I'm assuming that maybe you replied to the wrong post. the strings are not for you or me to pull. we are to observe in awe.

That's not what bread and circuses is, retard.

Alien swarm?

Trump related?

id love to just observe, its what i do best. but id also like to keep control out of the hands of any who would do us harm.
im certainly not qualified to hold the reigns, but at least my intentions are benign.

I had some dude in a game a few months ago trying to recruit me into his clan
Yeah good luck, you aren't getting me to join.

Most games make their money in the first few months.

Long tail is a meme. This industry is built on hype and marketing.

Block all cookies and trackers.

But honestly who gives a shit? Companies track you for advertising. And I've been using adblocking solutions for years.

This. What the fuck was he doing there until now?

With literal anarcho-communism as company policy its no wonder.

The Half-Life writer left like two or three years ago, didn't he?

Do you think he'll update Old Man Murray?

I expected more from you faggots

Is he ripping her spine out and snapping it?

I think you mean real

...

Yes.

I do agree that eating all that crap all day long is awful for your health but some sugar does help when you have to do a lot of mental work (like coding).
As in almost everything, the key is in moderation.

The insane thing is that they will be getting AR on Vive sometime this year. Microsoft's "Windows 10 Holographic" AR though, since they killed their own AR team.

Great job, Gabe.

I hope everyone here realized that HL2 has always been just a meme game.

I'm pretty sure that by now Valve's office consist of Gabe, some bitches answering calls and like 20 paki codemonkeys making sure Steam works H24

It was an amazing demo for shader technology and physics.

It's just candy.

Jackpot!

Sounds like Valve has become the definition of a victim of its own success. They have no reason not to use all their money to do nothing but fuck around, and everyone who's tired of sitting around collecting a bloated paycheck is leaving.

That's cool, multiplayer games are better anyway.

Wow, nice Gamer Tricks. Really fucking gay. That kid, skiTeL from his video I think he's actually gay.

It also sounds that Gabe backed the wrong horses in trying to break the hardware market and he's had to cut spend when Valve could have done something useful like opening a port studio and start signing games themselves to port and publish on Steam. The insane amount of goodwill Valve could have created by getting big requests like Persona, Vanquish et all from Japanese developers landed would have easily been a bigger money spinner than hardware.

At the minute you actually have to wonder if staff are leaving because he's making a stupid and insane bet on 3 VR "Games/Experiences" to try restart VR's heart because the growth is gone and they are stagnant as a business.

I could see them trying to land a sweetheart deal with Blizzard, EA and MS to allow them to sell games on Steam with a significantly lesser cut (Maybe 10% to Valve) just to keep player retention on Steam. I know it's a small rumor as well but this years COD may not even be coming out on PC while Destiny 2 will be handled on Battle.net so other companies are going to start pulling way more aggressive moves to not require steam (Ubisoft is already removing its back catalog from Steam and making the only place you can buy their older games on Uplay).

I'd imagine Overwatch's success was scary to them. Most successful PC game since Battlefield 4 and it's not on Steam.

Pretty much. It's like something clicked on gaben when he noticed the success he was embarking himself into, and surely enough when steam became the behemoth it is, he just stopped caring. Why would you continue to work when you gain money by merely existing thanks to the system that steam currently is?

The tragic part is that, for better or for worse, valve has the best infrastructure right now to create top tier games and services, even if they go for risky ventures I'm pretty sure that steam would recoup any losses without much problem, and even then they can pretty much sale on brand name alone. But no, valve just stopped giving a shit, the hat memetic economy performed far beyond any expectation, steam became ubiquitous and thus there's no need to put any effort in it anymore. Loopholes in support and other services hindering quality? Lmao I make millions by just standing around just make blanket statements that someday it will get better xddd

When you contrast the current state of events with their original intentions for making games, especially during the development of half-life 2, being commited with their intent to make good games no matter the time and no matter the resources, it becomes that much more saddening.

I was born in 93 and started lurking imageboards at about '07. It has been a wild ride for me, but they've taught me a lot. Mainly about overcoming despair that your favorite hobby has been turned into a corporate trap. It's also taught me to serious double check anything from any kind of news and that history is everything. It also let me know how good game used to be. Serious, I picked up Deus Ex again and it still feels like one of the best games I've ever touched.

Wasn't that just one random cunt that god mad because her shitty project got canceled?
Her work was worthless enough for Valve to gift her the rights to the stuff she made while working for them.

found the underage

Good? Fuck "writers". You don't need them to make a good single-player game and their pretentious Hollywood dropout writing often even gets in the way.

...

He was critiquing the writing itself you fucking autist.

wew lad

Who's the autist here?

The goalposts have stayed the same, he said "their pretentious Hollywood dropout writing often even gets in the way", he didn't say "their writing gets in the way".

...

This guy isn't a Hollywood dropout though.

nice datamining strawman projector there

Vaslve can hire new writers.

You GUESS? Fucking Sherlock Holmes over here.
I guessed that 10 years ago.

Valve just destroys the gaming industry.

Valve makes single player games?

No wonder that nigger Gaben is such a fat fuck.

Nah I was looking through some employer rating services a while back, (glass door or something) and there where some voices that complained about the utter lack of direction and middle school level of group infighting.
The amount of studios suffering from directionless or delusional higher ups according to those reviews is depressing

Amerigoys and SWEDEN Y E S don't count as "Normal people"

Many of them started playing video games and some may even be on this board

Get a load of this underage.

Kill yourself.

Looks like candy and drinks to me.

What the fuck, Americans?

tripophobia tbh

What do you expect from a company owned by the fattest man on Earth?

Ubisoft HAS to sell their games on Steam, they tried to pull their game and do independent shit from them when Uplay first got out. And utterly failed, Steam is the majority of their sale volume compare to their own webshop.

EA is the only one directly competing with Steam, but they're not really competing since Steam is the one with the agreements with ALL the other dev/publishers, it's just that EA is big enough and has a big enough production/gamerbase to actually do shit on it's own.

Ubisoft can't.

Battle.net and Origin are the only two "concurrents"…

This is what I was thinking.
I have a theory that Gabe is actually the fattest man on earth, but since he's american and surrounded by americans we look at other americans and then himself and think he's just the regular kind of fatty with a barrel-shaped body.

Origin and Uplay, save for not actually having games are actually better platforms than steam itself. Every time I used them the downloads maxed out my download speed and the interface was snappy and light

Don't forget Microsoft Go-er.. Guy. Bill is throwing the full weight of Microsoft behind the Xbox Live/Windows 10 store to make sure it's stocked to the bring with only the best games, and will soon topple Steam as the #1 distributor of all your favorite mobile games.
