The only gimmick that truly puzzles me is the IR camera in the right joycon. The original theory was that it's like the thing on the tip of the Wiimote, and that the dock would have a Wii sensor bar built in. Now we know that it's some kind of tiny Kinect. What purpose is it supposed to serve? Gesture recognition of your lower arm/waist/whatever is behind you?
I can kinda understand the rumble at least. It's lots of pic related but really tiny, and pointing in different directions.
