Borderlands 2 and probably pre-sequel fucked that by making enemies just a bit too tanky and high enough damage for some cases to just gib a player before they can react. Borderlands 2 was designed with co-op foremost in mind too it's detriment. Everything Gearbox touches turns to shit, especially after picking up the Burches. If the corporations weren't designed by idiots then the diversification of effects would be a nice change, and like said, the lack of active customisation was a stupid choice.
