Has anyone else given up on modern gaming? I just emulate ps1 and earlier

it's not splitscreen, it's same screen. Uses Saturn's widescreen mode too. I play games on all systems, modern ones too, just as they come out. My PS4 will be getting a lot of attention this month.

Saturn is the best, however. Panzer Dragoon Saga is one of the best JRPGs ever made.

GC/PS2 also has some pretty good games. A shame we can't emulate the Xbox though.

This is a meme, the PS2 and Gamecube aren't any easier to emulate. Xbox emulation sucks because most of the best exclusives like Halo got PC ports so there is no motivation to work on it. Meanwhile PS2 and Gamecube have loadsaexclusives and JRPGs and shit to get the autistic super programmers amped up.

the best exclusives are still pretty much 100% exclusive to the system. The gamecube has less exclusives, and even less games. The documentation leak is pretty much entirely to thank for the GC emulation. PS2 is a mess but its a passionate one.

Most recent system I have is a Vita. While I still find games to enjoy with it, I do find myself looking a lot more to games I missed out on the past from 7th gen and earlier, between having a PS3, modded Wii, CFW PSP, DS, and a PS2 with an IDE drive.

Might get a PS4 somewhere down the line when there's enough games of interest to warrant it (I usually get into system late anyhow, which provides generally cheaper purchases and an established library), but I'm really not sure when that will be, especially since Sony's method of taking games that were PS3/Vita/PS4 multiplat in Japan and making them regional PS4 exclusives in the west isn't helping to convince me.

I seem to recall some other people taking issue with the translation for the PSP version, but if memory serves the PS1 version had it's own English script issues.

Unless something leaks you're always working without official documentation, you're always reverse engineering incredibly complex undocumented hardware, usually far more custom and unknown than the stuff that makes up the Xbox. They didn't do it for the Xbox because nobody fucking cares about the Xbox, it's as simple as that.

I've been wondering about that myself. Their prior specialty seemed to have been JRPGs, or at least tactical JRPGs, given their past with Sega producing Shining games, but with Nintendo they've mostly been relegated to Mario sports. And while Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age were pretty decent (albeit not without flaw), it was a good seven or eight years of nothing until Dark Dawn. And with the issues Dark Dawn has it strikes me that Camelot HAD to have known they would anger fans of the prior ones, it makes me wonder if they even wanted to make another Golden Sun in the first place (admittedly, Alex aside, the GBA games wrapped up reasonably well anyhow). Maybe they're more content with making Mario shoot hoops or knock golf balls out of sandtraps than taking the time needed to make JRPGs, and I assume Nintendo would be pretty happy with something easier to sell worldwide, given the difference in recognizability between Mario and, say, Isaac.

Yeah, but if they didn't want to make another Golden Sun themselves after the GBA ones, and Nintendo forced them to after having heard fan outcry over the years, it wouldn't surprise me if maybe they sabotaged it themselves so fans might not want more. Only excuse I can think of, unless the staff at the Camelot changed between the TLA and Dark Dawn. Yes, I don't even know what the modern games are or who plays them. Very rarely, like once every two years, I might pick up something a try that interests me, like the new Zelda that they say will make a return to exploration. I don't expect much, the only new game that I played for more than 10 hours because it was actually somewhat enjoyable was Ni No Kuni (and even that was very flawed,) so I'll probably pick up Ni No Kuni 2.

OP, I'm right there with you. Now that the Vita is pretty much done, I have no incentive to buy new games. I'm just falling back on older ones. I still have a large backlog, so it's not as though I'm hurting for games to play. Makes it worse when I mod consoles.

People get up in arms over the slowdown, but I barely noticed any real slowdown when I first played through the game. Summons, dances, songs, and spells like Flare and Holy were noticeable, but general gameplay wasn't much of an issue. I don't know why you'd flat out avoid the PSP version.

Obviously the second memory card has nothing to do with the second player. It's not a "memory card for player 2", it's just an extra memory card for the system. And yet, it is under the big ass "2", over the controller of the second player, so it makes you think each memory card is for each player or some shit like that, which they obviously aren't.

If this was just for aesthetics, they could've come up with something better than that, surely.

So when player 2 comes over with their own memory card they can put it in the player 2 slot and then take it home again when they leave? Not hard to figure out.

Besides, going by the "have each owner have only one memory card" rule, if somebody else comes to my house and we're going to play this particular game that he's gotten far into, then it wouldn't matter if he puts the memory card into the second slot or if he replaces my memory card with his. We're going to play that game, so we need only that save file.

By your logic, there's no reason to restrict the slots to only 2, and there's certainly no reason to link each memory card to each memory, they have nothing to do with each other.

At first glance, without reading the "memory card" bit, one might imagine each slot on top of each controller is for something related to each controller, maybe something you insert there to give the controller extra functions, or something like that.

A lot of the fun that came from classic games was seeing how rapidly things were evolving and imagining where they would go next.

This was especially true in Gen 5, when level designs and control schemes and story were all experiment and strange.

Playing old games like banjo tooie and Klonoa 2 can be fun, but knowing they never amount to anything beyond that kind of spoils the mood.

Yep. I've got original hardware for DOS/Win9x, PS2, Wii/GC, and each Ninty handheld and enough roms and wads to last me a lifetime. I've also got USB adapters for some retro controllers so I can use the original first party ones.

The memory card lines up exactly with the controller connector, so it doesn't stick out unless there's no controller under the second card which most people don't even use. It has nothing to do with the players.

Might be worth noting that while Emuparadise has most stuff for the PSP, the late localizations for the system are still absent last I checked (the original Japanese ones are what they have for stuff like Brandish and TitS: SC), and I don't think they bother to have prepatched fan-translated games (which seems to be the case for most of the not-really old systems there on the whole; PS2 as well). Though, maybe that's what I'm seeing because I'm looking in their direct downloads section.

Superguns are cheap as shit to build, & even though the Flash card is like $500, that's the ENTIRE neo geo library on one cartridge. The alternative it to spend hundreds per cart for MVS games, or thousands per cart on aES games.
