What's your idea of a perfect video game industry, Holla Forums?

What's your idea of a perfect video game industry, Holla Forums?

Just produce quality product for the sake of creating unique quality product, and not for money.

I want DLCs up the ass. Massive paywalls behind everything. After completing a level you gotta pay more just to play the next level. You could also buy a $500 season pass so you won't lose time reaching for your credit card each time you complete a level. Paid online for everything including PCs. Video games with more story less gameplay. Just make movies instead with some QTEs.

I agree with this gentleman. Bravo le sir, bravo for knowing the mind of the consumer so well! I hope this post makes it the front page!

Like the death of pinball was in the 90s.

Pinball designers were giving it everything they got and more to try and fight off the decline of pinball at the hand of video games; making tables bigger, better, and more complex than ever before, one after the other. Pushing the game to its limits.
They were desperately doing everything they could to try and seriously impress people IMO, and it would be great if video games ended up being the dinosaur trying to evolve now.

A solid base of medium sized companies. Too big to be agenda-pushing indiefag studios, too small to warrant all the design-by-committee bullshit you see in AAA games.

Only white men making games promoting traditional values. No weebshit, no diversity, and no degeneracy

I want a sane consumer base, that way jew shit won't be bought and fun unique games will be made, whether the devs wants to do them or not.

Rational choice is a lie.

games made by small teams of people that had a passion for what they were doing. not to sell copies, not to be ironic, but because they wholeheartedly gave themselves up to their nerdiness to make what they believed to be good and disregarding what sells well. i.e. the video game bloom of the mid 90s PC scene

Every dev is working out of passion without any expectation of monitory reward.
I still want them to make money so they can grow their studios and work on bigger projects but I don't want the money to be their motivation

...

Indiecucks are very passionate about what they do too, which is part of the cancer that is affecting the industry.

Making games about the gameplay, designed to push the gamer to learn new gameplay systems, styles, nuances, and innovations. Everything else comes second. Games should be about games, not about a cinematic experience, storytelling experience, and so on. This will eliminate 90% of the problems in the industry.

They are passionate about their politics and message, not about the games they make. If they actually cared about games they would be too ashamed to release the piles of shit they produce.

This. David Cage and Ken Levine have passion but they are giant hacks so they produce irredeemable shit.

Maybe if video games were made from commissions like paintings and sculptures?

they are passionate about a """message""" which they seek to tell, not about making good gameplay or design. for every proper indie game that makes great gameplay (hotline miami) there are a million others that use the format to promote their mediocrity without designing anything that approaches acceptability.

Make getting the Mark of the Beast mandatory for accessing your steam account, which now requires a $10 subscription every month to keep your games and also requires additional 50 dollars a month for paid online.

Remove kikes and ethical practices will come back like…
Till normalfags wise up to these and many other problems in our hobby we will be stuck in hell.

Like Kickstarter, but in stead of devs hyping up some shit they made, we get consumers putting up rough drafts of what they want, and then others can back that idea until it has the funds that they can use to shop around for a good dev team?

i want games that actually appeal to people who play the series/genres instead of every single game just being dumbed down garbage that even toddlers could understand

It's made up entirely of cute anime grils and headpats.

get rid of mediocre walking simulators
mediocre fps
mediocre reboots
everything that has shitty coding and no effort in them
get rid of "emotional" games

basically this

A industry where unique and fun ideas and games are promoted more and are the norm, rather than what we have now

One that has stopped making video games. I want it to die and never come back.

This includes steam, right? By the sole purpose, all drm is jewish.

One where gamers and developers go hand in hand supporting each other.

People make games that are fun because they love games and play them themselves and people pay for more of what they want and create dedicated modding communities like Doom and Quake to give games nearly limitless potential to evolve and expand through shared passion.

The Japanese industry is fucked as well, they mostly make games for the West and the games not made for the West are casual garbage like Dragon's Quest or fucking mobile games.
It's all fucked.
Everything is terrible.

Well did you ever think for a moment that you aren't the target audience? I would have thought a game being entirely in a language you don't speak is a subtle enough "fuck off".

no women, niggers or jews

He just said the games are casual trash, them being in another language doesn't change that.

And western games are casual trash too, Japan isn't special.

I said right in the fucking post they're casual games, of course anybody who isn't a casual isn't the target audience.
How does any of that change what I said? Just because they're for Nip gamers doesn't mean they aren't shit games.

But that's the very point of my fucking post.

One that involves the destruction of all video games.

...

-a law gets passed which makes companies have actual consequences if they made up blatant lies about their product to their customers. Seriously, there is way too much lying in the game industry, and devs keep doing it because they know they can get away with it.
-directors properly allocate budget they have been given rather spend it all on vacations around the world so the game comes out on time
-every game that's less than 40 hours of gameplay gets sent to PC

Libtards and non-whites are barred from anything related to video games. All games expessing any form of liberalism or (((neutrality))) in a positive light are banned and blacklisted. You need an ID to prove you're white to be able to buy, sell and make video games. All games must promote National Socialism or face a heafty fine.

There, I made the video game perfect industry.

That would not improve vidya at all, how would that clear out all the shitty walking sims, generic open world RPGs and repetitive online FPSs?

JRPGs and VNs with 50+ million $€ budgets. Just imagine companie like 5pb/nitro, gust and falcom having unlimited resources.

Would also help getting those games released in English faster. Fan TLs are great but slow and inconsistent. Robotics;notes never ever.

Only libtards and non-whites make trash games

>>>Holla Forums
Stay in your containment board, libtard

if you keep telling people to go to leftypol while shitting on the rest of the internet, they will, and you'll be the victim of the same kind of backlash that befell the SJWs in 2014

Well that strikes out 99% of games and even ones you thought were good. God help you if you look at the source code of some these games. Horrible workarounds and "pls don't touch this method unless you want to break 10 unrelated things"

All they do is chime in every time someone makes a comment they don't like and overreact as hard as they can to try and sway anyone naive enough.
There's nothing to do but tell them to leave in this situation.

For

one that doesn't exist

...

I agree but I think he means poorly optimized/buggy games as opposed to games with messy, illegible coding.

Half-Life tanks, Valve gets extinguished like the kikes they are, DRM Clients, corridor shooters and cinematic shit never see the light of day.
iPhone never existed, Cellphones are for calling and sending messages while Arcades are still around but with more tries for less coins.

Late 90s / early 00s, when games were treated as an actual art form. Most of the really good games came out in that time period.

The perfect vidya industry can never exist under capitalism, don't fool yourself here is why:

1-The CEOS and shareholders hold more power in the decision making process than the actual devs that make the game.

2-The profit motive is far far far more stronger than the quality motive, so appealing to the holy "mass market" will only increase over the years

3-The cost of any small improvement in the engines is and will increase with every passing years for far less and less outcome "dimension returns"

4-Intellacutal property is putting chains over ideas and game dev tools that are unnecessary and hinder modders and small devs from doing interesting stuff with other ppl codes and mechanics in a communal fashion

5-You will see less fresh IP and even less new genres being made, the gamer associations with these 2 categories will take the form of a "bell curve" that is to say an old ip will have a already granted expansion of already interested player base, same thing goes with gerne but bigger in scale

6-Capital is coward and fear new experimental creative risks in fear of failing financially

I don't think I've ever heard anybody blame fucking capitalism of all things as the reason the vidya industry is shit.
It'd be shit under any system.
The problem is casuals.

Are you saying that fascism can fix the vidya industry?

Holla Forums being retarded as usual

here's a half-assed edit

The only good point you make is about intellectual property. But even Amazon is making a free, open source game engine. 3/10 made me reply

Anons who think they should be the target audience of anything are so fucking arrogant, i wish i could punch their fat faces.

Honestly, judging by his appearance I thought that guy was some hipster SJW numale, but then I watched one of his videos and he's actually a little bit based.

I've always wondered the origins of that image, I see it everywhere.

He's got shit taste in music, though.

...

All I saw was his Bowie reviews and some of sketches. Still not a fan of his, but the way he destroyed my expectations still kinda stuck out.

Investors are extremely important for any project larger than 2 guys in a garage.
Not everything needs to be publicly traded, but you need to find someone with money to fund any big effort.
You disproved this yourself with point 3
Graphical fidelity is no measure of a game's quality, and diminishing returns in one area will simply lead to greater investments in others.
Got me there, IP law in its current state is shit.
Not sure what you're trying to say there, is english not your first language?
If you're just bitching about the first occupants of a niche being dominant in that niche, you're fucking retarded.
Finally something I can get behind a little.
The problem here is that the modern games industry is made up of >10 monolithic AAA entities, such as EA, Ubisoft, etc.
The games industry needs these monoliths to be fractured into many smaller groups, which can still make good quality products without the massive financial risks that make AAA so bland.

tl;dr the only major problem with the industry is that AAA is too big to use the resources it takes up well, everything else is market correctable.

This whole based meme needs to hurry the fuck up and die.

based kek is btfo'ing

You would need to get rid of capitalism to do that. Game developers make games for money because they have to.

yeah thatd be cool

Time happens, the apathetic consumers called casuals become a little more apathetic and the casual market dies off in a big way.
Consoles and handhelds are gone.
Videogames stop being one of the most profitable entertainment mediums on the planet right next to books and gambling.
The annual big budget shooter companies don't make what they use to.
The nickle & dime arena shooter and moba crap falls out of vogue.
Graphics just kind of peak to where they don't wow anyone any more.
The cornerstone of marketing toward idiots is gone and substance has to make a return.
The assembly line that the industry has become must be tore down and the types of craftsmen who were there in ages past can finally return.
The people in it for the money will vanish in large numbers.
Only those who can deal with the smaller consumer market and more importantly the type of smaller consumer market will remain.

There is no real exclusivity based on anything but hardware capabilities.
There are 2 things that play games.
Personal Computers and powerful smartphones with peripherals that mimic handhelds.

A publisher pays for a game to be made.
A developer makes a game with that money.
The publisher does not rush the developer and the developer doesn't slack off on the publisher's dime.
If the gamble goes well the publisher makes a return on their investment and gives the developer money again.
They show undoctored footage of their game at events and maybe upload footage online.
Even if they are disingenuous in some fashion there is no longer some agenda spewing middle-man marketeer called a game journo.
They do not give early copies of their game to anyone.
They release these things called "demos" so the consumer can gauge with their own hands if they believe it is a quality product or not.
After release a multitude of actual consumers give their opinions.
The game has no DLC or Microtransactions.
Any work that would be DLC will instead be salvaged for content for a potential sequel.
The industry has a multitude of original IPs.
Localization studios have one job and one job only which is to translate.
DRM does not exist.
Gamestop does not exist, only ma&pa antique videogame stores for hipsters.
It is practically only online retailers that sell games and as such there is no "limited number of copies" to be ridiculously upsold by jackasses.
If a game is no longer being sold than as long as it exists somewhere it could easily be copied.

Events are held in big cities that mirror Comiket.
Indie developers hawk their games at these events on physical media for cheap.
It allows for things you can't get from just throwing something up online.

Regardless at least the console death thing looks pretty likely.

Why does that shark look so sad?

but piracy and emulation or just ebay

The problem is the internet.
If the game has a puzzle or exploration element than many are inclined to look up the solution or location rather than work them out on their own.
Rather than solutions to difficult enemies being defeated with experimentation on the part of the player, their weaknesses are simply looked up.
Since that defeats the purpose of all those things it eliminates their rewarding function.
Seldom are those willing to put themselves in the appropriate circumstances of the era and as such have less skill in playing games.
Many instead growing up with games that lack challenge and therefore offer less reward.
Is a younger generation learning or are the people at GDQ right now part of a dying breed?

I'm hashing out a design document for a co-op first person action RPG. One of the features I'm planning is randomly chosen hand-crafted variant level sections, so players who look up a walkthrough or stream can still be surprised without going full roguelike.

This, with the addendum: "No pretentious Marxist shit." If the entire hobby was nothing but Tale-of-Tales games, I'd fucking shoot myself.

...

No paid DLC. No paid online anything. Free online would be fine. Everything would be distributed on physical media, but could be installed to at least 1 device at a time, with maybe some kind of a record of installation saved on the physical game itself to prevent piracy. Dev kits would be available to anyone, even for consoles. Microsoft, and all the bullshit they introduced to gaming, would just go away, and Sega would be reborn as an alternative 3rd competitor in the console market.

Also, I'm kind of interested in the idea of a standardizing "playback" of video games, so that any game could be played on any platform, but with varying levels of quality. This way, hardware manufacturers would be forced to compete using the actual quality of their hardware, instead of exclusives.

so bobby normalfag doesnt want to play [cool video game]. theres still people who like that kind of stuff, they just kinda get drowned out.

Give all CS:GO players the death penalty

No DLC.
No DRM.
No paid online.
Bring arcades back.
More games with sourcecode available with a non-Jewish license attached (whether it be free or not) with the encouragement of mods being developed.
No multimillion dollar publishers running the show.
No ESRB.
No Jewish EULAs.
Games being good.

the alternative would be government regulation though, wouldn't it? Better to be self regulating even if it's shit.

The 1990's

Can't be done with pressed discs, and cartridges are fast enough for installation not to matter. Now, if each physical copy had a unique ID (an NFC chip, for example) that was registered online during installation and de-registered on deletion, that would work, although that brings up DRM concerns.

This sounds nice, but it means that every system must be an x86 box, or every game would have to be coded in Java or HTML5 (or Lino or webasm, but nobody wants to learn cross-platform languages that are actually good). One of the cool things about (older) consoles is the variety of hardware architectures that get market exposure.

imagine if AAA actually meant AAA quality, that would be pretty cool

Videogames need to scale the fuck back. We've hit huge diminishing returns in developer budget/game quality, there should be a dedicated genre-niche to pander to and a small group of really dedicated devs to make fun games. Hopefully the mainstream will stop being so interested in vidya and go to something else.

especially in game-world sizes, the open world meme needs to fucking die its ruined more games than it's benefited

ESRB ought to be a suggestion rather than a reason to censor, also it would just straight-up be better if they didn't assign an age rating, just added a warning about contents of the game so people can make their own opinions.

One with a lower development cost in order to not have third party and AA companies die off.

No kikes, no leftists, and only people who care about fun concepts being able to write story and gameplay mechanics.

That's basically how it works now, a board of executives throws money at devs and gives them instructions.
