ITT: post comfy RPG games

Right here, baby.

Two of the comfiest RPGs.

Some of these need remakes.
Especially Rhapsody.

...

Everytime.

Rhapsody did get a remake and NISA completely destroyed the localization

Playing the first one, I'm really digging the music.

umm… how about getting actual taste beforehand…

The music in this game is damn comfy

How about fucking off to cuckchan with your retarded typing style?

I'm playing ACF instead of the PSX version of WA1. I'm not a huge fan so far, but the big hook just happened so I'm going to keep going and see if I like it more down the line. The puzzles are neat though.

I always liked going to the Cerobi Steppe, or however it's spelled, in FF12 and just killing the dragons there with all sorts of unorthodox setups. It's so relaxing.

I've never seen that particular formatting with greentext before; is that how they do it inside of Avellone's asshole or is it a reddit thing?

...

This shit right here

Naruke is a really great composer, able to do awesome battle and boss themes, adventurous world/dungeon music, and cozy town pieces (as an aside, Nintendo even brought her in for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, with Ocarina of Time Medley and Bramble Blast being contributions to the OST). Would have been nice if she hadn't gotten sick partway through WA4 and had returned for WA5 and XF, but the music there is still well done by people able to emulate her style.

WA1/ACF is a bit simple at times, and starts out rather light, but it does get more serious as it goes on. I'd say to keep on playing it if you find yourself liking it a bit more post-"Sky Shatter".

I assume it's bait off the writing style, but that's just me.

Played this and XCX pretty much back to back, and it's interesting how both worlds feel very differently.
In XC it's very calm and slow paced, even when you're in an enemy stronghold, in XCX despite the world being much bigger and more vast it's much more hectic and intense, because it's overflowing with enemies and tyrants who are very persistent and you have to constantly run away or watch your step so you can't take the time to immerse yourself in the world until you're high-leveled enough.

Indeed. I hate it when people do that shit.

I'm playing Fallout 2 at the moment is pretty cool. Dunno about comfy everything is edgy and gross there is no succour and nice friendly taverns in the wasteland.

Golden Sun on the GBA was pretty comfy, but playing it again makes you realise just how fucking verbose the whole thing was. The entire script could have been cut in half easily and been better for it. And the one on the DS was even worse.
Pic related is comfy. One of my favourite parts is where Justin and Feena (?) are groping their way through a tunnel and Justin finds something soft and warm and can't quite identify it, and promptly gets slapped.

I'm pretty sure it was a ventilation shaft actually.

...

I bet you don't even use your PIN number at the ATM machine.

Reminds me that I need to get to some of those sometime, especially with Magical Vacation being fan-translated. How's Popolocrois?

Because it's redundant?

Eternia was a headache and chat was annoying, this is not comfy at all. Wildarms poster needs to be banned.

3 was also pretty comfy despite how bad it was

Good choice on PoPoLoCrois. I was so unstressed through the whole game I didn't realize anything bad was going on.

I came here to post that as well.

file didn't post

Combat was hectic, but the game overall felt pretty damn comfy to me.

Combat was annoying, that's what I was referring to as a headache. It was a complete mess and don't forget certain flying enemies too high to strike from the ground but too low to hit while in a jump. Again there's Chat, a literal coon child tortures you with inane antics.

more sage because I can

You posted this on Holla Forums, which is basically a halfchan remake but with better features so it's more desirable, so obviously you're ok with remakes.

More of a spinoff. Like House of the Dead was a generic zombie shooter by Typing of the Dead was so retarded it was enjoyable.

That would be like taking some overproduced mess like Fallout IV, and having some hardcore autistic fanboys of the original Fallout remaking it in some garage somewhere, or making some new game that should have been Fallout IV.

Now you want take stuff in this thread that was actually good, and give it to the same type of people who are about to give you the Final Fantasy VII (((remake))).

I know this is an RPG thread but the Resident Evil remake is proof that it can be done right.

I'll take my chances on saying they're inherently bad when 99% of other remakes are utter shit and the people in charge of making remakes are exactly the type of people you wouldn't want anywhere near your favorite game. I'm less concerned about the one or two they accidentally didn't fuck up.

What about a remake made by the original creators but using more resources?

what is this? does this game actually have these vocals?

JRPGs are for faggots

it depends on the quality of the initial game. remakes can be good if the original had technical issues or possibly cut content. also some game ~NES and before can be improved with new features and graphics. I don't really think most ps1 rpgs would require remakes though.

It was in a tunnel entrance on the Ghost Ship.
Can't forget the scene where you grab Feena's panties, either!

...

The save theme on this game was rather comfy and that card minigame that could be a good standalone.

Beating strangers on the street was a good way to relieve the stress from having to decide to either to kill my waifu or the extinction of the human race

Alundra is a zelda clone, not an rpg.

You can get a different waifu in the Human Path. There's a fireworks festival near the end of the game, and when it happens you're able to spend the entire day with whichever female character has been in your party the longest.
I picked Lily.

Hey there, Wild Arms fan.

fags

Hello to you too.

Combat felt fine for me and the friend I had played it with, if a bit more challenging and less refined than the later entries we'd played prior. Though, having played Phantasia PS1 beforehand, maybe it was the fluidity issues having been ironed out that I really appreciated (also having access to full party manual mode from about an hour in via the Manual Manual, compared to 8-10 hours for the first Technical Ring in Phantasia PS1).

Reid has particular artes that carry him into the air while dealing damage (I remember finding the Demon Hammer and Tempest Strike lines very useful for dealing with aerial foes), and Farah is pretty much the predecessor to the anti-air focused characters later in the series. Admittedly it's been a while, but I don't remember having that much issue dealing with flying foes (I was also playing on co-op with a friend manually controlling Farah, which could also be a factor I suppose). Not to say there weren't enemies or particular enemy formations that weren't obnoxious (the first time being attacked by six archers from both sides in the desert required a different tactic so as to not get shredded by arrows in mere seconds), but still.

I took more issue with her grandfather subjecting the party to a board game styled luck-based dungeon.
Fuck that in particular.

Seems like a bit of shame that Arc Rise Fantasia's legacy (out here in the west anyhow) is having one of the worst dubs around, especially for a 2010 release. Thankfully there's an undub patch, though it would have been nicer if it had contained native dual audio from the start.

There's still some examples of solid remakes here and there, but I do think that making something new is generally preferable to just revisiting a game again (or in some cases, multitudes of times).

Tales of Destiny's PS2 remake does a lot to improve on the combat the original game had, resulting in what I've heard importers call some of the best combat 2D Tales has ever seen.

im playing this at the moment on ps2. its pretty good.

took a long while to get started though. im about 4 hours in and basically only just had my first proper full party battle. maybe i'm just slow.

This whole series is very comfy. It's about lolis adventuring out into the forest to fight cute monsters like rabbits and moles, while picking local fauna and mining to make ends meet before relaxing in bars.

All my picks for comfyness have been posted, so fuck you.

I'll just keep posting these.

Farah is the best girl.

...

...

The main problem I had with Eternia was being easily sidetracked with the Uno card game, so much that I forgot where I had to go after a while.

People complain about FFXII, but I remember having some very fun moments with it that I never had in any RPG
Good times.

Yeah, I'll admit that WHIZ was a pretty fun diversion, and wiping that smug look off Keele's face certainly felt good.

Also, the Atelier series is pretty comfy. Mana Khemia, in particular, is all about bishoujo guys and cute lolis living through magical school hijinxes.

Xenoblade was indeed pretty comfy, though initially rather tense when you come across named enemies you might either beat by the skin of your teeth, or are going to get squashed unless you come back later.

I really need to give MK 1 and 2 a go something. Planning on tackling the Iris games first in case they feel hard to go back to though, so it's probably going to be a while.

the beginning is slow as all shit, yes. it takes forever before you're actually allowed to run around and do stuff, let alone have a consistent team.

The game that got me into Dungeon Crawlers and I'm glad I saw that article in Nintendo Power.

It had a great sense of humor to itself and I was surprised how attached I got to the story for as barebones as it was. Slash is still one of my favorite characters. I keep trying to replay it and finish the ???? floor but man do I not have the time to sink into a 90+ hour RPG anymore.

Really annoying. Irritating to listen to.

Starts off intriguing then gets really boring.

Well, your opinion is just shit.

lmao

I think the term you're looking for is weeaboo grindan sim

it's called "number porn", user.

I'm honestly a bit surprised to see that The Dark Spire is like $60+ to pick up complete these days. I mean, I suspect it didn't sell well or Atlus didn't bother to print off many copies in the first place (Gamestop trashing cases and manuals also doesn't help), but I wouldn't think demand for it would have increased so much. Yet, last time I saw a copy of it at a store at $60, it was sold in mere days.

You should at least try to hide your samefagging, Switching IP's isn't all there's to it.

Whoops, still somehow had that as an embed. Might as well say that while Shadow Hearts isn't exactly comfy on the whole (though I don't feel that was the point for the series, given the intention to make something darker than average; certainly not saying they aren't great games either, as I love the fuck out them), hearing the occasional comfy map or town theme was certainly welcome, and provides a feeling of respite.

Which is why I'm glad I still have my copy with the soundtrack.

Yeah, I like having copies of games I like around too, but sometimes it's just not feasible to do so, at least without trying it first (and even then, it would be preferable to find cheap if possible). I'll probably have to give it a go via flash cart sometime, but I need to either get one compatible with my DS Lite, or see if I can figure out her to get a cheap preowned one I found working (it at the very least needs a micro SD, but I can't find instructions on this particular model of cart to begin with; website on the box is already dead now).

Rhapsody is my guilty pleasure.

Can yall think of anything past the PS2? Surely there's something besides nostalgia bait.

Trails is a slog but the autism I experienced by talking to everyone in the town after each freaking event made me remember the maps and the people.

Ruan is my favourite place, the coastal road down from the checkpoint, to Manoria and the lighthouse then the beach and to the port city itself. Got the school close by and then you head south to Air-Letten. Can picture it still.

Luna really is good.

The art style and dreary setting was weirdly comfy. Also it does some things in a very basic manner (platforming isn't too complex) but it all meshes so fucking nicely.
Also the original diablo, good stuff to sit back and get immersed.

I remember dis game. Once I got the first summon, I bound it to Vaan, then spent no less than 3 hours in the jungle section, farming malboros and panthers. Ended up having Vaan level 50 and just rek shit.
Can't wait for the HD remaster, seeing as it will have the proper job system.

>stay a while and listen

...

Yes, now enjoy DS audio quality of the Japanese audio.

wait seirously?

It got ported to DS.

Yeah. NIS ported it to the DS, NISA botched it with bugs and cutting content relating to the Japan only sequels (apparently western players aren't deserving of taking the time to bring over content relevant to games we didn't get here before).
