Countdown (to Final Crisis) was another weekly book that launched right after this weekly book ended, and Didio had a much stricter eye on it.There are notes from the writers (and the editor Siglain) that mention that they were hiding pages and plot points from Didio, leading to some fights because people were not getting their plots done in time.So when Didio said that Countdown would be "52 done right," he meant it would have a stronger editorial hand. 52 also kind of failed to do what the main premise was: show how every status quo from the One Year Later stories came about.Countdown was also trash, and completely contradicted Final Crisis.Those four writers were the architects of the post-infinite crisis. Johns continued the Booster Gold story in an ongoing series, and Rucka continued some of the spy stuff with Checkmate (and eventually Batwoman: Elegy)

He didn't want to tell editorial what exactly his plans for Final Crisis were, other than it involved the New Gods dying off page and then being revealed as inhabiting the bodies of regular people.So he told Didio, don't use The New Gods for a while.But all Didio seemed to hear was "new gods die," and hired Jim Starlin to write "DEATH OF THE NEW GODS" as a miniseries leading in to Final Crisis, use them in Amazons Attack, and all through Countdown.So Final Crisis is an event where it's way better to just read what Morrison wrote instead of all the other tie-ins and lead-ins (I like Legion of 5 Worlds though)
