I don't get how it is considered to be in the pantheon of greatest most hardcore competitive fighters by most people when it has and always had seemingly a very shallow top tier to pick from probably more so than any other game thats held in such a high regard in the general sense. It's fun and it's beautiful but I never played it quite like other fighters I enjoyed and didn't know about the competitive hype until I saw evo moment XX a number of years ago. The more research I did it seemed as if no one played anyone but chun an ken for the most part and Yun entered into that tier as time went on. Garou did new characters better IMO than 3S did but they were pretty much based on templates of KoF mainstays anyway.
Samuel Morgan
You are right that it's a Chun & Yun game with Ken sometimes coming in due to his dp. Maybe it's the vocal minority skewing the people's expectation like New Coke (see video).

Since we were on the topic of crossover fightans last thread, what are some relatively obscure crossovers you guys want to see? Tatsunoko vs Capcom was cool, especially with Volnutt, Frank, and Viewtiful Joe on top of Tatsunoko characters in general being in a fighting game was fun. Do you guys prefer the over-the-top airdasher type of crossover, or the fairly standard CvS type?
Somehow, the spats make it hotter than Angel's butt.
Parker Cruz
Have you ever played Garou? That shit is even more broken than 3rdStrike to the point of Tizoc being worthless with the grab bug. Jenet, and Kevin(fuck that guy) rules that game with Gato and the bosses following.
I know 3rdStrike is a little overrated especially with the hate SFV got from people but you should know how to filter bandwagons and look at the game itself. There's plenty of Makoto, Dudley, Urien, Ibuki, Necro and even Hugos around. Yes, Ken's cr.kick into super and Chun-li retarded super with two stocks are something that need to be patched if the game got any updates but you can still have fun.
There's another Coop Cup coming next month.
To be fair, I got Dizzy and Kum for free on the PSN and I don't even have the game yet.

How hard is I-no in Xrd? I know she's notoriously difficult to pick up and play in the XX series, but I heard that she was made easier in Xrd. Is this true? pic related.
Alexander Torres
New RC system means a lot easier execution for some cancels than her FRCs were. Some of her special move motions have been simplified, I think Chemical Love in particular. I think that makes her execution humanly possible.
Kayden Sanchez
I don't know the technical parts of it of it but here's a quick input change from XX to XRD for the Special Chemicle love that can be a good tell of the difference in difficulty. XX 632146K > 632146S Xrd 214K > 214S
Dominic Baker
I truly don't know but then again I don't follow the 3rd strike scene.
Same here, I main Chun in 3S on the few times I play cos she's the closest to a zoner is that game. I play like a JWong with worse execution… lol
Chase James
hot take: 3s and garou are both fun games that are flawed in ways that become glaring at a high level. also the western scene doesn't have truly strong character specialists who can beat tierwhores, you'd see this all the time in kof as well
execution is much easier tbh, she was nerfed a little because of that though.
Hunter Gomez
No dive kick loops, 4/10 apply yourself

In my country, there's an Alex that destroys plenty of 3S players. Also, the best here are more playing Urien, Makoto or Gouki than Ken, Chun or Yun.

Doesn't KKZ and Raging Demon take up all 2 bars?
Why??!?
Jackson Morgan
Yes
Aiden Rodriguez
They both have some powerful gimmicks. Kara demon can't be escaped on reaction and KKZ can set up guaranteed damage if you reset them into it (because the first hit is unparryable). Also his demon flip and tatsu are far more flexible rushdown tools than most characters have, his command overhead is throw invincible, and his fireballs are great by 3S standards. He's a good character that you can't afford to fuck up with.
Ryder Jackson
A strike is unparryable? I throw only throws were unparryable…

The whole KOF'96 soundtrack. High regards to KOF2000, KOFXI and 3rdStrike.
Ian Sullivan
That's a tough one. Series has great themes on almost every entry. KD-0079, Fairy, Trash Head, Cutting Edge, Bloody, Rhythmic Hallucination, Independence From an Aggregate, Control Crisis, SLASHER ZERO, Destiny, Diamond Dust, An Improvised Concerto, Venator Ballare, Dear Falling Angel etc etc. But, overall, 2002 UM might be my favorite.
Carson Johnson
good taste. If you guys have KoF 98 UMFE on steam, there's an arranged soundtrack mod that makes the game's soundtrack that much better.

Came here to post this. If they do it Xrd style then it will be great, not as good as fucking beautiful NeoGeo 2D, but way better than what they're doing with XIV (great game, but it's visuals are pretty ugly, especially in comparison to XIII). I would also like to see a return of the Line system from previous Fatal Fury games, they finally had it as a legit part of the game with 3 and Real Bout instead of just a gimmick, would love to see it expanded on.

Lone Wolf & Cub shows how to make it work
Isaac James
I know it's an oxymoronic statement for the guy that threw away his humanity, but I miss when Capcom showed Akuma's humanity. I never really see him as a straight up bad guy, just a guy who wants to have a well challenged opponent while staying true to his fighting-style's original purpose, he even is willing to deal with pure evil people like Bison and Gill because he thinks they're unfit for this world. I honestly think he makes for a way more interesting character than Ryu ever could be, but now whenever he's in game to go "Muh Sausage no hello" and "Muh ebil Ree-oo" and nothing else. Imagine if instead of taking care of a random baby he became a family man and had an actual child, and was an actual good parent. but no, we gotta stick to a character's baseline trait and change nothing other than making him look like a Japanese hillbilly.
Nathan Rivera
I blame yellow kikes in charge of finances.
Jordan Lopez
If anything, as the series progressed, they had all the more reasons to make the character more fleshed out and empathic with Garuda as the supposed source of the Satsui no Hado and now Necalli who's Akuma with the lust for power turned up to eleven. Also the fact that he and Gouken are based on the Nioh guardians, meaning that, underneath the ferocity, is a figure that is ultimately benevolent. Single parent Buddhist Raoh. :^)
Now I'm getting Nam flashbacks of the SFV story and I only watched that shit on YT.
Brayden Torres

it still boggles my mind so much that infamous-man is actually in the game. why have a crossover character in a crossover game? that's more distracting than the Sony cats cosplaying as Ryu and Kazuya, also pretty retarded ideas. wasn't box-art Megaman and Pacman enough?
Isaac Hernandez

I miss this Akuma. He had some humanity in him, but if you got in the way of his training, you signed your own death warrant. All he cared about was being at his peak like Ryu, but he took drastic measures to do this. Now we have this retarded cartoon villain that became a retarded potato-lion.
Imo the only Tekken character who could play that kind of role was Feng, but like Capcom/Ono Harada and Namco suck at story-telling. Feng lusted for power, but if you go by Wang's story, Feng will accept his loss to him. I don't know what they're doing with him out of being so corny with his strength.
Fuck no

isnt she "hard" to play? how do you go playing her? been trying to get into darkstalkers lately, could do with some tips
Christian Stewart
I'm pretty scrubby in vsav as it's got a lot of funky stuff and I don't play it often. For bb I just dash around a lot, cancelling dash into buttons is really good, gotta get good at not getting the shitty 6MP overhead or the 4/6MK hops though when doing those buttons, 5MP is probably the best. You always want to chain into knock down too since her otg follow up (forget what they're called, it's universal I'm pretty sure) in particular is quite good.
Someone else here can probably tell you a lot more and correct me on things.

Feng is arrogant as fuck, but he respects strength and nothing else. I believe he didn't kill his master purely out of malice, but because he limited Feng's ability to show off his power and to better himself by fighting stronger and stronger opponents. He accepts his defeat to Wang because Wang showed that he's stronger than him and thus superior than him.

roster's have always been pretty good for these games. Not gonna buy it because it's going to be DLC bullshit all over again like SFxT but people will be okay with it now because their anuses are gaped open like a chimney from SFV.
Now I wonder how they'll do gems. They imply from the gameplay that it'll be like Marvel Super Heroes, but capcom and disney are too jewish and capcom have learned that their community will put up with their bullshit and haven't really done shit for SFV.
Justin Lewis
Well I wasn't planning on getting it anyways, now it looks like I won't even pirate it
Jeremiah Cooper
Nips fuckin' worship Raoh. Even gave him a IRL funeral. HnK suffered from obvious "shit's getting made up as we go" but Raoh's a well written character because he's developed bit by bit as the story progresses so by the time of the final battle, the reader already knows everything they need to about him.
Calling bullshit on Rathalos (MonHun team already denied a character of theirs for TvC), Masamune (5 people in the West know Sengoku Basara and probably only 1 is in the FGC), Nina and June (dead IPs and rather obscure characters). I'd also imagine Punisher is someone Marvel wants to forget, unless he's a 14 year old indonesian tranny now. The peaceful arab, Tumblr Squirrel and Gwenpool though - that I sadly believe. And no sign of Shuma-Gorath? I can imagine the jewish arm-wrestling in the negotiations.

no character in vsav is that hard to play at a basic level, bulletta just has a high execution ceiling for her loops
Some Neofag with inside knowledge (apparently the same guy who leaked the announcement) is saying the list is false. I was kinda hoping it was true because it barely has any character I'm interested in (besides Asura, Gene and Ada and usual suspects like Morrigan and Dante), making my decision of ignoring the game all that much easier.
Carson Morales
wat you guys playing right now?
Joshua Taylor
Just finished up playing some KoF XIV, trying to learn how to play geese properly to substitute the lack of Kasumi. But now I'm gonna take a break and see if any neets are playing pic related.
Lucas Morales
Running through all the classic KoFs in order. It's really interesting seeing how the series changed from year to year.
Kevin Barnes
I'm a puzzle game fan. I'm glad there's more genres to play with my arcade stick than just fighting games. But I'm always training my team at Skullgirls, for time to time.
Tyler Nguyen
Harada could have done so much with Feng, but sadly he wastes his story on his Mary Sues.
I don't take the Gaiden stuff seriously (because it all sucks), but in the series Raoh definitely was one of the better-written characters. Can't hate on a guy who got rid of his tears when he knew shit was bad. Souther doesn't get any love for his character even though he's more one dimensional than Raoh.
L. Raptor and Anakris are pretty hard with their basic stuff.
Here are some videos of VS matches Japan used to hold if you want an idea on how to play certain characters (there's at least one video with an Anakaris player, but you do see some Victors)
I don't really believe it. It's a lot of really convincing guess work, and a lot of it makes sense, but I don't think this is a real leak.
I wouldn't personally mind much if it was real. Even the characters people are quick to whine about like Rashid (das mah boi), Gwenpool (one of the few good, new comics Marvel is publishing) and Squirrel Girl (would get the Captain Marvel treatment and turned from ugly shit into something cute again by Capcom) wouldn't worry me. And SFvX-Men DLC makes perfect sense for Capcom. But anyone could have come up with this exact list.
And I don't really have a problem with shittons of DLC as long as characters are released in packs and the game is actually GOOD. It needs to be structured and handled better than SFV in basically every way. Don't give me boring fight money busy work, just make the game finished and fun on day one, and I'll gladly keep supporting it. A shit launch like SFV had would kill the game. But if they can manage to do it at least decent at the start, I could see the game eventually getting more characters than MvC2 had and people overall being very happy in the long run.
Jason Diaz
Ok that's funny.
If what he said about DMC5 is true it kind of lines up with this old post I found a while ago.
Levi Howard
This has to be the fakest and gayest leak ever in the history of imageboards.
Liam Ramirez
Yeah, it's all about Daddy Issues - the Bloodline.
Chase Hall
So that's the reason for RE6, the rebooted DmC and SFV? Capcom expected to slap the name on a turd and for it to sell well?!?
Sebastian Reed
Well, yes. DmC is totally a "just take the name and make it a western game, because that will sell more" idea (just like how Lost Planet 3 is a piece of shit when compared to LP2). RE6 was probably more of a rushed, terrible idea. SFV was rushed because they assumed getting it out early would be more important than getting it out GOOD, and they were wrong.
Capcom hopefully learned the right lessons from all these failures, but we won't know for sure for a while.
Charles Foster
The more I play of Touhou Shinpiroku~ Urban Legend in Limbo online, the more I notice all the parody moves the characters have.
This little bitch basically has Akuma's Raging Demon, it's fucking hilarious.
Aiden Garcia
well for DmC it seemed like everyone involved did as much as they could to insure that DMC fans hated the game.
Ninja theroy apparently has wrote good stories (not that i would know) Capcom was banking on that but what happen in the past was Tameem (the head of Ninja theroy) would wright a script and then his co-writer would basically throw it in the garbage and right a good script but that didn't happen with DmC.
also when Ninja theroy was redesigning Dante Capcom rejected they're first tries saying it was too similar to they're Dante and that they wanted to be shocked by Dante's redesign.
The final kicker was the guy who played Donte actually wanted to go back and play DMC 1 through 4 to research his roll but Tameem say no so he could be more unique.
Not even a million dollar prize would get me to play Duty Fighter V.

If Tessa and Falcon have a chance, can't see why not the girls from Plasma Sword. Hayato was in MvsC 2. And with Disney and ESPN on the wheel of the development, I would say the Monter Hunter team would not have a chance to say no. I predict a DLC scheme similar to fucking SFV: Six new characters per year. But, new Power Stone? Hard to believe that series would receive any new games.
Eli White
Dude… Combat Core LASTFIGHT Arcana Heart 3 Melty Blood UNIBEL Nitroplus Blasterz Blade Arcus The Black Heart And so on…
Christopher Cook
Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm has an arcade mode and that cost a fraction of what SFV cost. Even the 2hu fighters have Arcade mode
Noah Myers
Reminder that it took almost a year for Capcom to provide support in SFV for the official branded SFV sticks.
Aiden Hernandez
Who plays Arcade anyways? People played Arcade on the arcades because there was no training menu neither hacks.
Shitting on V for the lack of arcade is quite stupid, it's not like you really need to look hard to shit on the game's flaws to begin with.
Cooper Nguyen
I play arcade modes, especially online arcade mode. They're good for doing runs with characters you're unfamiliar with.
Colton Reed
I usually play the arcade mode of every new game/IP with some if not all characters to "feel" who I'm using. Ever since the late '90s with emulators and recently with Xrd-SIGN-
Usually do "Training"(to learn the moves) -> "Arcade"(to experiment and "deepest lore") -> Versus/Online.
Also fuck the "muh cinematic story mode" copying from MK9 because fuck you! I want to choose who I'll play with. Reptile gets no love
Also it's not hard to find shit on SFV with its awful UI decisions.
Hell, even KOFXII has "Arcade Mode". It's also slower, with less content than previous entries, characters feels like some things are missing and had a huge backlash from the community. Do you recognize the similarities?
Lincoln Rogers
That's impressive stuff, can't wait
Cooper Ortiz
Since the topic of arcade mode is up in the air, I'm curious how you guys would make an arcade mode. Would you fight 8-10 opponents and have a secret battle at the end, or would you do it in the old SNK style where you have to fight every character before the boss?
Justin Wood
Eh! I found a Capdrone, guys!
Joshua Anderson
8~10 is better. Depending of the roster, it would become a "survival mode" if the game was the size of MvC2 or KOF2002UM.
Also, I would put specific battles against related characters just like Blazblue does but with a conclusive ending and not a prequel to its VN mode.
Lucas Lopez
Pretty much everyone. That's why people complained to much about the lack of it. When your main menu already lacks something that is so basic in the genre, you can bet people will complain. This is the most blatant fault of SF V because it's the first one you can see. Arcade is a essential mode, and, when well developed, can extend the life of a game for years, just look at VF 4 Quest mode.
Andrew Reed
8-10 stages but if multiple hidden sub bosses is the most ideal imo. All the hidden sub bosses in the KoF XI were great.
Ian Phillips
MKvDC had that Story Mode before MK9. It also looked very similar to MK7's Konquest mode, when you only could play pic related. The Kombat part was lame, but the beat-em-all part was breddy gud. (except that you couldn't jump at all)
Dylan Hill
All this talk about arcade mode reminds me about Weapon Master mode from SC2. Shit was fucking GREAT. Hell, I turned on SC2HD recently and realized I didn't have everyone and started playing through it again, still fun to this day. I still wish the game has an extra special versus mode with some of the stage modifiers you could only see in this mode (directional wind, quicksand, poison, etc.).
I also realize that SCV was a similar thing to SFV, as far as being overly displeasing to fans. It had no arcade endings for characters (in fact some characters were not explained at all in the game itself, you had to look online for bios like Destiny), the roster was smaller than the previous game and changes to characters left some fans out in the cold. And I personally never liked the thought of a super meter in SC, feels totally against the entire core structure of the game Though it did launch with a full story mode, it focused on some of the most annoying new characters possible.
Jason Hughes
What's the best version of Soul Calibur 2 anyway? Is the HD online release better or worse than the console ports back in 2003?
Jordan Lopez
I've never noticed any glaring flaws with the HD port over the old Gamecube/Xbox versions. Someone might know better though. I'd probably recommend the HD port just due to not having to drag out an older system and having two of the console exclusive characters instead of one.
I wonder if it's impossible to hope for a Switch port someday so Link can finally settle the score with Spawn.
Juan Ortiz
I really don't think so, and you have many more to choose from, however I can agree on "it's the first one you can see". The netcode is the main fault of the game in my opinion, then it comes down to the many small shit that the game has and the small shit becomes a mountain.
But that's not an arcade, or a classic one at least. If you're talking about good "arcade" modes then we could be using Soul Calibur as an example as well. I don't remember the entry, I think it was 4 for example that has a Strategy Arcade conquering buildings and shit. Those are great, but not classic arcade which is what people are whinning about.
Now I miss Soul Calibur, thanks user.
Camden Russell
I really need to get a cheap TV so I can at least play SC2 on the GC again.
Lincoln Williams
First fault I seen was needing CC to get hard knockdown
Jayden Watson
The game was rushed. They had one year to make it, unlike on SoulCal IV, when they had 3 years. So, you're right to say that.
But it's still the best fighting engine the series ever had. Especially on their new sidestep mechanics. That whole GI thing was questionnable, tho. They also managed to make the best online play for a fighting game in 2012. Great netplay and the Colosseo was a thing 4 years before Revelator's Online Lobby. You can't say that for SFV.
People shits on SoulCal V because casus took the SoulCal series as an RPG and a giant story mode, with customisable characters. Not as a fighting game. SoulCal V has the best fighting game side of the series, as well as the best character customisation. The game felt like it was unfinished. If they have made an extension of SoulCal V, with more characters, new RPG-like modes and the return of the Weapon Master mode, instead of doing Lost Swords, it would be the best SoulCal of the series. Period.
If you wanna know why the game took all those wrong decisions, blame pic related. Tago thinks that the SoulCalibur fans, all around the world, are more interested by the RPG and customisation part than the Fighting game part. He's right and this is why we had a PvE F2P that no one liked. This is also why the series is on standby and why a VI is still not announced by Bamco.
Probably the Xbox one. HD Online has locked the european version to 50Hz and didn't include japanese voices in the european and american version.
Shut the fuck up and play SoulCal V.

I actually agree with most of what you say about the core gameplay, it's great. And I'd actually look over a lot of the flaws of it being rushed, if not for the roster being complete ass. It's not even just "oh, replacement taki isn't as sexy as old taki" shit, new characters that represent old fighting styles simply aren't as good as fun as the originals. Fuck, Kilik's bo staff moveset was one of the most stylish and badass things ever… only to replace by some monkey boy who waves his staff with his ass. And while at its core I agree with distilling the movesets of the styles that did make it into the game, some of them just aren't fun anymore, and I think that lack of the familiar made it so a lot of people didn't even want to learn if the completely new characters were interesting or not. That weak roster is a large part of why people don't want to bother with SCV, even though the core gameplay very arguably is the best in the series.
I assume they could have fixed the game a lot with dlc characters, but the initial package was simply too underwhelming for them to do that… or some idiot simply thought the f2p game was a better way to spend their resources.
And I still don't understand how they could have a huge timeskip and not think to put fucking BANGOO in the game.
Jayden Collins
Aris did a great review of soul calibur 5. I'm a bit tougher on it then he is and I'm pretty sure in hindsight he is too because he never played it.

Eli Wilson
no way. she's way too obscure. i wouldn't be against her inclusion, just skeptical.

I do because I wanted to fight against a slew of characters to see which one I liked. Also fighting bosses is pretty cool. Arcana Heart 3 Love Max doesn't have just 1 boss, but 4.
William Jenkins
keep in mind this is the same guy that said sc2 is the most balanced fighting game when its competitve scene was dominated by 4 characters.
Aaron Murphy
I thought I was the only one who knew about Black Heart. It's a shame the creator doesn't plan to make a part 2.
Nobody really liked the new GI system. That also killed SCV.
Compared to 3 and 4 where Sophitia and Hilde dominated their respective games, 2 really was the "most balanced" even when Cassandra ruined things.
Camden Reyes
cassandra? what are you talking about? xian, knight, voldo, and maxi dominated with a little sopha and mitsu sprinkled in.

SoulCal V's gameplay is fucking garbage, brave edge is a bad idea that doesn't belong, no soul charge mechanic, and worst of all, they fucking neutered everyone's movelist even more than they did in SoulCal IV. I'm certain that nobody even has an A+K move anymore, but I'm not gonna suffer playing through every fucking neutered character who was not my top 10 or replaced by a bad clone.

I think I'm deciding on a KoF14 team, Choi, Mian, Mai. What would be the ideal order for this super unoptimised team?

Why is SG, an objectively bad fighting game, being pushed and shilled so much and by whom, even here on fullchan?
Elijah Rodriguez
MKA Konquest was amazing in many ways. It was a love letter to fans, it was a whole different experience most of the time and the unlocks kept you going. When I stop to think about, MKA and MK9 were some of the most amazing examples of how developers can build something for the fans. MK A gameplay was not what old fans wanted, but they improved this part in MK9 drastically. I wonder how a SF or KOF done this way would look like.
Thomas Anderson
Becuase: And frankly, it could had been much worse.

Why do you ask this in the Fighting Game thread?
Angel Young
Replaced by Just Guards. AKA "muh parries".
SoulCalibur was a 3D series that took 2D mechanics from the start. And outside of that, implying that meter bars have nothing to do with 3D games is as reductive as it is stupid. CEs were what Rage Arts are on T7 right now. Very situational moves that are made to impress casuals with pretty animations. BEs was a superb mechanic, because it was more than simple EX moves. But it was clearly rushed and the team didn't have the time to really make BEs work. Being disappointed by the roster is totally understandable, but it doesn't make the core mechanics bad. The entire game is one of the worst in the series, but not the fighting game part.
I'm totally agreeing on MK9. But not on MKA. MK9 took everything they've created, from the art and music to the characters and modernized it to make the true "Mortal Kombat Trilogy" fans deserved. I just like the ex-Midway/NRS guys from doing 15+years of error and retry to finally get to the point of MKXL. They really tried to polish their trademark, even tho it looks like they polish their work with a chainsaw. Gamedevs aren't perfect. We've waited decades before having an "almost not totally busted" MK. MK9 prepatch came with tons of bugs, weird design choices and infinite blockstrings. But they had Toasty Boost from the START of MK9 and people discovered it after Injustice's release…
Mian/Choi/Mai. Mian doesn't need any bars. Choi can kill with or without maxmodes. Mai with 5 bars is just terrifying.
Define "objectively good fighting game", please.

Well, the console/portable version still doesn't have lobbies, so there's still that.
Also, it's not a bad fighting game. Just too reset-heavy for me.
Isaac Martin
And you don't see that as a problem? Who even plays this shite game online anymore?
Jose Young
I can ask you the same question, inflationist.
The main online community is on PC. There's one man that does the job of fixing the game, while he's not getting paid for it. The PS4 version, only game to include the PS3 stick driver correctly, is mainly used in offline tourneys. Vita, PS3 and PS4 version are all cross-play. He waited to have time to work on PS3/Vita lobbies until he could include PS4 lobbies, which are already done. Just to not split the PS community.
So, if I do see this as a problem? Nah.
Matthew Mitchell
Stay triggered Labzerodrone, let me guess, you're a regular SG defender itt, aren't you? Sad!
Adrian Garcia
Well, I said there's room for patches. You were questioning why there's still patches for the game.
And yes, I play with the national discord group but my toaster I had problems running the game for a few months (and many others in general). So I would be glad if my PS3 version got lobbies.

Who cares, nigga? Shit, not every fighting game is for you, don't be a cunt just because an OBJECTIVELY GOOD GAME isn't to your shit taste. Only fucker backing you up is "Who plays arcade mode?"- guy, and he obviously isn't immune to having shitty opinions.
You don't fucking like Skullgirls, that's the only objective thing here. Don't waste thread space being whiny cunt about it or people will just filter you due to being tired of how much of a broken record you are.
But ultimately players aren't playing a fighting system, they're playing CHARACTERS that use that system. And there are parts of the system I would personally throw out, I don't give a shit if 2D mechanics were in the series before. Tekken can add Rage Arts with little problem because the core design philosophy of it is different, Tekken is a 3D fighter that uses a lot of 2D rules at its core (the very top one being holding back to block instead of a button). But while things like Critical Finishers were a waste of programming time, they didn't get in the way of what makes Soul Calibur great. I know the series isn't Bushido Blade, but there is a certain purity to the other games that don't rely on a meter. The core gameplay is smooth and ran well online from the matches I remember, but ultimately I'd still rather spend my time playing 2 or even 4. Because the roster is lukewarm (3 fucking Edgemasters?) and the fighting system, while good, is not representative of why I play Soul Calibur to begin with.
Easton Cox
Should of just went with 3s since it's actually funner to watch instead of a game only the most poverty of people actually play due to needing setplay to actually win

I will add that there are things about SCV that can't be found in other games in the series. Some of the stage transition stuff really brought a few stages to life, not quite DOA level, but still pretty cool and dynamic. The thought of a story mode was great, but it was about a bunch of new characters no one gave a shit about. If you took some of those elements and just rebooted the series to focus on the old roster/strike gold again and make new characters people like, they could make a pretty good SC game. I just don't trust Namco to do anything but another rush job though. They simply don't care as much about the series since they can focus on Tekken for assured money.
Henry Thomas
You don't belong on this board. Leave!
Noah Lewis
About the characters, you can mod your save on 360 and PS3 to have Kilik and Elysium with their fixed styles from single player modes and do many stuff with CaS. Also you can create your old characters back not named Talim or Zazalamel.
And while I don't really like how supers were put on SCV, I think doing on Tekken is even more retarded. EX-style moves was great for variety without having many useless moves from older games with bloated movelists and some retarded inputs like Ivy's. GI needed to be toned down somehow for how broken it was after SCII and you still have JG anyway.
Sadly, I agree with you.
What's wrong with you?

So how about a mini subject? Combos. (All below questions on are on an entire cast average) How long do you think they should be? How Difficult should they be? How Much damage should they do?
Nolan Scott
shilling4free I actually like how Pocket Rumble handles combos, and I'm sure there are other games that do it similarly on lower levels, but stopping combos after about 7 hits, doing at most 60% damage or so is nice. It gives everyone a decent chance instead of ToD, and it's reasonable to pull off. If your game is going to be combo heavy though, you should make sure the combos aren't 1f links all the time. Chains/magic series are fine for the most part to me, and that's part of why I was okay with Tatsunoko vs Capcom, though I haven't looked high level footage or meta really. Just no ToD, please.
Benjamin Wilson
Pocket rumble looks interesting but it might sound petty I don't want to play it on my PC for name alone but on a portable. :^/
Ayden Perez
I would say around 5 hits, not counting moves that hit more than once like command normals, specials and supers.
Difficulty should come from timing, finding proper cancel points in moves, no dial a combos. This should make it fun to pull off while also not long enough that it makes the player getting comboed become bored. I also like the classic combo feel from SF2 and KoF where it's like you're fighting against the pushback from moves more than anything.
25%-30% precent damage unless a super is involved seems pretty reasonable.
Tyler Kelly
Nah, that's fine. It's also not done yet, so I can't fully recommend it unless you want 7/8 of the roster. It was supposed to come out on 3DS but I think they axed that idea. Not sure if they have plans for other handhelds right now. I just wish they made a Linux version. Undoubtedly it would run on a UMPC.
Since you mentioned what the team placement should be for one user's KoF XIV team, I have a question. I want use Terry and Takuma in KoF 98UMFE. What's the best spots on the team for them? I don't know who my third character should be yet.
Noah Thomas

James Morgan
I don't even remember where I found it, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't from some guy's deviantart page. I just renamed the image to something basic.
Oliver Evans
Are you that autistic from like two years ago on Holla Forums? Jizzmaster or something?
You just need a first character to build bars or not even that if you want to use the Extra charge mode.
For combos it depends. Characters that can deal high damage with normals and specials shouldn't have long combos. But overall, combos should be rewarding to do while not a bothersome to the one receiving (long duration, 100%, other stuff). High damage should always cost something to mantain the risk/reward aspect of a fighting game like in KOF games. But I don't really like links. Chains and cancels are nice though.
Ryan Cox
Keep in mind, most of the votes were placed the very first days. Which was winning was Shrek by the way and other meme shit. Afterwards JoJo was winning, followed by 3S. Somehow after a while, GG was winning and almost all JoJo voters went to 3S and thus end up winning.
I lost track of it like, one or two weeks ago so I dont know how GG managed to win by one. Regardless of votes, what you guys should have done is make a challonge for each game and see how many people sign in for each, whoever gets the most players wins. That way everyone wins without resorting to people randomly vote, voting for hatred of ABC game or for memes/trolling.
It's way too late for me to say this anyways, just go and have fun with it. Good luck to all players.

That's just another way of polling, everyone can sign up for a challonge bracket, that doesn't bind them by blood to actually show up. Every tourney we hosted on fightcade so far always had a bunch of no-shows, so bracket entries aren't an accurate representation at all. Bottom line is that no matter what game would've won, people would've complained.
Lucas Sanchez
Fair point.

Question, that is in conjunction with the subject of combos:
How can a game please both footsie and combo lovers? The subject of Skullgirls in these threads interests me: combo-heavy gameplay with most of the footsie depth replaced by a strong reset game infuriates one side and is loved by another. (All of the SJW bullshit plus many of it's other flaws being put away for the sake of analysis) Let's take what's good and bad about such a design:
It is bad because of how demanding it is to properly react to resets, especially when the amount of different resets the cast can dish out is fucking huge. It wards off casual and less passionate intermediate players, hence why it is only played by veterans now, and made unplayable for the rest of the playerbase. Also because being pummeled down for a long time is frustrating as fuck, but there's worse in Skullgirls' case: Confirming from a stray hit into a combo is EXTREMELY EASY usually ends up into a full damage BNB, often stopped early for a reset. Why is it so annoying? Because it dumbs down the footsie game to the point where in a crazy amount of unthought/reflex/redundant attacks hitting successfully, lead to an undeserved full-damage combo. Long, damaging combos MUST be a deserved reward for good mindgame, not just throwing out mindless/reflex cerebella j.hk's while jumping forward and hiding behind it's ridiculous hitbox as an excuse to not use one's brain.
On the other hand, long combos are good because they reinforce the reward that comes with combo building and performing. Pulling off a long, damaging and spectacular combo is one of the most enjoyable mechanics (even if it is often unfair) in fightans. It makes the git gud effect more visible to the player and creates a gap between scrubs that mindlessly cycle the same mindgame or mechanic over and over again without ever trying anything else, and the rest of the playerbase. It also adds many possibilities, from combo paths to resets, giving more depth to otherwise quite simple mechanics, and making player dedication more rewarding.
Now to try answering my own question: What about a fightan separating both combo- and footsie-oriented gameplay with two "periods" : A footsie, normal one, and the other being a combo-focused, vulnerable period. You have two health bars, one which is your main bar, permahealth, which is affected only during vulnerable period, itself triggered by the second health bar when emptied (and replenishes over time during the vulnerable period, which then ends when full). Footsie mode only allows for 1 or 2 strings. Once the second Hbar is depleted, the weakened player does an auto burst and goes into vulnerable state, allowing the other player to pull off a spectacular, long combo without knockback nor hitstun reduction, but every hit making the opponent's 2nd bar replenish faster. This could make both a long combo, and very short, damaging strings viable in this mode: Either the attacker takes the risk to let their opponent escape or even damage them, but makes vuln mode last longer and deal more overall damage, by using short strings with either risky resets or finishers that would add much more damage; or they play it safe and pull off one long combo, ending the vulnerable period sooner and dealing less damage, but while only giving the opponent one single chance to retaliate or defend.
What do you think? Would this work well and be enjoyable for both footsie and combo lovers? Or be too complicated and exploited to death?
Michael Anderson
I think I don't understand the idea of 2 health bars. My uncreative answer is to make a variety of characters with some that are combo heavy but weak damage in singular hits or heavy hitters that don't combo and rely on footsie/pokes and other well-timed things. Otherwise I don't really grasp the idea of separating the two ideas since they're both a core to fightans.
Jayden Lewis
Oda: If we were making a lineup only based on popularity and nothing else, they'd [Yamazaki and Blue Mary] definitely be in there. In fact, so would Gato and B. Jenet. But… Then, to me at least, I'd start feeling "Wait, are we making a Fatal Fury all of a sudden?", haha.
Implying that aren't saving all the FF and AoF characters missing for Garou 2 and AoF 4
Tyler Hill
Yes. Yes they would. Same with Kasumi. Jerks!
Eli Miller
That form of Footsie to combo mode sounds like it could be broken into 3 possible outcomes. 1. Footsie mode will be in constant use till one unlucky shit gets into the corner then the other can swap into combo mode where they can take major advantage of the more combo linking normals to keep high chip / mixed / reset heavy block strings while the one being attacked is unable to do anything and is essentially in a vortex now where the attacker can always be on the offensive and it's pure guess work and pray they can get out. 2. Combo mode will be too worthless to bother with, to avoid situation 1 it'd have to be weak on blocking opponents meaning doing is a sure risk to getting punished and being able to swap on a confirm in footsie mode would kill the point of it. 3.Combo mode will simply do so much damage when it can happen that the opponent wont get their chance to burst or they'd have to do it so early it kills the point
Hunter Wilson
I wonder if SNK would do a Bizarro Birdie and Turner showed up completely ripped.
Mai was actually Oda all this time. :^)
Kevin Green
I don't think this solves much because separating the neutral and combo game in such a way itself eliminates combo characters, because everyone is forced to play neutral in order to get the chance to do damage. On the other hand the system doesn't affect footsie characters at all since it benefits them to play the same way they always would regardless of the opponent's state. You might mitigate this by making big combos outright better than short ones while the opponent is vulnerable, but that defeats the point of the system anyway and makes it indistinguishable from, for example, waiting for a guard crush.
The lynchpin of combos is abare. Doesn't matter if you can do a shitload of damage if you can't ever land the combo. Every game that people complain about being too combo-heavy can be helped by either having less abare, better defensive mechanics, or more involved damage calculation. Many older games get by on the first one, and many anime games get by on the second two. Something like MvC3 is a case of fucking up on all three counts.
Jaxon Young
So when's UNIEL[st] getting a console release, or a release outside of Japan?
Hudson Hughes
Do you want Pokkén with its phases?
This is sort of old: mmcafe.com/news/posts/10212.html I just think Blue Mary is out since XIII because of her unique animations. But maybe in 3D it could work.
Dunno about Yamazaki. I remember one of the first showings of XIV had a pro player asking for him. Luong is not really that similar.
Kasumi probably has the same problem as Rock. With Geese in the game it's hard to have her. Also Mai
I really need this.
Austin Morales
Why not Lee and Jin? Lee always seemed like an obvious choice for an AoF representative yet he's only been in NeoGeo Battle Collseum since then.
Matthew Price
That feels like a shit reason to no put a character in the game
Ryan Hughes
With that logic we might as well only have one Kyokugen user
Charles Richardson
Holy shit, it makes too much sense.
Never. Move to glorious Nippon, gaijin.
I admit my AoF lore isn't up to snuff, what's the rub here? The problem with Geese and Rock is lore related, not move related. Geese should be dead to get the Rock we know since he's adopted and trained by Terry after Geese dies. But since Geese never died, Terry never adopted Rock. That's the main problem as far as I see it.
Anthony Parker
Terry is taking care of Rock in KOF already. Geese is just a really bad father in KOF-verse. Rock also has the counters, fireballs and Raging Storm. I would say Kasumi is much more diferent to Geese than Rock is. But even then looks like she wasn't even considered for XIV. Or they're just holding him for the sequence of Garou
Kasumi fans needs to give thanks that she's already an established character with ties to Mai, King, Xiang Fei besides the Sakazaki family. Other characters from AOF not named Eiji might as well give up hope.
Well, they already axed Takuma and Yuri is completely different than her brother or boyfriend. Maybe next time she won't have an uppercut but Saiha will reflect fireballs just like her EX version in 98UMFE. They could've used past versions for Robert but maybe the straight up "shoto-bait" was fine.
Anthony Martin
I own an old Sega fightstick from the Saturn era. One of the proprietary buttons is starting to break down and the holes are just big enough to fit a nice new set of Sanwa snap ins. I opened it up today and saw that the buttons were directly soldered into the PCB, how do I go about removing them without damaging the electronics? How complicated of a solder job is it once I get the old buttons out?
Christopher Wood
You really don't. You're not missing much.
I was talking about the arcade version, not the console version. I heard the original arcade version was broken. I didn't follow SC2 tourneys because I couldn't care for it (It was a good game. I just didn't care about being good at it), so I'll take your word for Xian, Night, Voldo, and Maxi being good.
Just Guards was a really shitty system imo.
Not SFV, KI, SFxT, Every SF4 iteration after Super, Tekken 4, Tekken 7, Skullgirls, and any SC past 2.
Ryder Fisher
A definition is what a concept IS, not a list of things that it isn't.
Leo Parker
Technically I still answered the question.
Liam Parker
Why do people not like Tekken 7? Most people I see hating on it only talk about music or their character not being in. I was one of the people that wanted Kuma
Tyler Bailey
Shit balance (it's a roller coaster now thanks to Akuma who keeps getting buffed/nerfed), shit music (really bad Dubstep), shitty new characters out of Mudslime and Claudio (Mudslime was bullshit tier in Vanilla 7), Vanilla 7 used the Unreal 4 Engine very poorly, microtransactions, and Harada does jack with the game out of being a smug bitch. A few players were pissed how Tekken 7 changed up side-stepping, but they got over it. The Koreans hated Tekken 7 for a while because they got shafted with the release while the Japanese got everything.
I'm a Kuma main too, but if he's going to be a console exclusive, I'm skipping it. Tag 2's character balance was very awful because most of the dlc characters were shit out of P. Jack and Kuni. I'm expecting the same thing in 7 because Harada will spend more time trying piss people off with Chloe or his Mary Sues.
Aaron Hall
Elaborate because Arcade games are one big microtransaction as long as you have to keep paying to play. why on earth would he be
Benjamin Diaz
You can buy customization pieces through microtransactions in Tekken 7 instead of getting 100 gold for a 7 million gold bikini. They vary from UI displays to character clothes.
The game is long overdue for a release, and there's a possibility Lee and Miguel will be console exclusives. Harada isn't going to delay the console release for three characters let alone update the arcade version to make Lee, Miguel, and Kuma decent.
Ethan Roberts
Have any of you played Killer Instinct?
Whats your opinion on the meta? KI allows for really long damaging combos if left unchecked but the breaker/counterbreaker mind game in place prevents it or enhances it. It also goes deeper with the use of manual combos but you still arent safe from reads if you re use the same combo. You also have shadow counters and instinct cancels as well as the instinct mechanics as well. You can see how street fighter v tried something very similar and people generally agree the system is better now. To me KI has one of the best gameplays right now.
Noah Lewis
You do know shadow counters weren't first a thing in KI right (Except maybe for being specifically called that)?
Well you can at least name a game so i can look it up
Nolan Fisher
I made a thread on this a while back on why I was kinda fustrated how they added in OC characters like Sylvie, Shunei, Xanadu but left out old beloved characters in a supposed SNK crossover game like King of Fighters. A good 50% of people in the thread were telling me that they liked the new characters and that KoF was it's own thing so It was okay that they did this. Now were all mad about oda's statements this article? what's with the change in attitude?
And also that one statement about he likes the design for new OC characters bothers me. All of them are pretty much design vomit 101, and I have no idea how many kids he managed to appeal to with that(even though most people I see playing it are grown ass men).

I love it except for that fact that I don't like the core combo structure. Combos in general are one of my weaker abilities in a fighting game, I do a lot better at opening people up I just can't get much damage out of a single combo compared to most people. But for a lot of other games I can at least manage, KI I just don't get the feel of combos very well at all, and even just fall back on combo assist when playing alone because I don't want to spend however long it'll take for me to learn it. If how combos worked wasn't a key feature of what makes KI the game people remember, I'd love a game that played like KI in every other way. I'm not knowledgeable enough about the meta to really say what is good or bad about it, because it does suit other players just fine, just not me. I do know they recently did or will do a general nerf to how much white health you recover from a successful counter, taking some emphasis off of cashing out damage. I don't know how well or poorly that will go though, as it's a major overhaul in balance to a lot of characters, but they've been supporting the game amazingly. Even if I'll never be great at it, I consider it a damn amazing fighter.
Thomas Cruz
I'll admit i'm not too mad over one or two of may favorite characters not making it in mostly because I can just play a game with them in it anyway. I just found that Lee Pai Long wasn't considered before John and Jack, since they mentioned they would be too obscure. Lee was in Neo Geo Battle Colisseum, which I'm pretty sure came out in the past 10 years, so maybe they could put him in as a surprise character.
Jack Diaz
Alpha counter, Dead Angle, CD counter. There's 3 right there.
Joshua Rodriguez
The change in attitude is that I don't care about the new characters one way or another so I wasn't vocal then. I am vocal when I learn that established characters got axed for dumb reasons. It's like it's different people commenting everytime.
KI seems like it should have been a better SG in that it's extra combo heavy but people have ways to get out of it and it's not heavily weighted in offense's favor. Beyond that little analysis, I haven't played enough to make a fair judgement. I don't own an Xbone or have a Win10 device.
Tyler Bailey
Shielding in Melty Blood has an Alpha Counter input as far as I know too.
Julian Garcia
I've played it at my fightan club when it's brought, also at a friend's house, it's fun, I really love the ideas behind the mechanics.
Lucas Martinez
I dont know what dead angle and alpha counter are but if the third one is the Kof c+d counter then its not actually a counter but a blowback and does not apply
Aaron Hughes
I still stand by that, especially now that we know SNK is more open to bringing back any series. I rather KoF stay; big name characters, shuffle in some fan favorites every new entry and then add new characters. Sure I miss a bunch of FF and AoF characters, but I rather see them return in new entries in their respective series.
Also not always having my favorites in kof makes me pick up new characters. Like if Kasumi and Yamazaki were in I probably wouldn't have finally gotten around to learning Geese and picked up Sylvie
Jackson Wood
KoF is already fucking with SNK lore since AoF characters should be much older than Fatal Fury characters
Also if they are going to transport mother fuckers from the pachinko dimension and have a boss that is going to retcon almost every death that ever happened in the series, there should be a point where they need to realise a roster shouldn't be shafted because of a fighting game story.
I'm still kinda miffed I'll always be miffed about rosters decision anyway but KoF devs had 22 to 23 years now to put in characters from series that have never shown up and it's ridiculous. Where's the last blade characters? When is an actual metal slug and world heroes team going to join? And the fact that they still would rather wait and tease after escaping the depths of the pachinko dimension is infuriating. Whose to say they won't be stuck making mobile games for eternity so all our request and pleas and ideas just went straight out the window for no other reason then "appeal to the kids" "who cares about old SNK games anyway" "they seem too similar. but have another kim character!".
Aaron Murphy
Lol
Charles Mitchell
My issue with that is my favorite series are Last Blade, and World heroes.
That's never happening for me.
I don't see how you would have the patience for it since nowadays a company has to put all efforts into one game for 5 years and, to be honest, I don't think they'll be able to bring back all of the other franchises like samshou or garou. I hope I eat my words with that announcement coming up but I think they are just going to milk king of fighters because it will be the safe thing to do. Oda can say whatever he wants but he has no obligation to keep his promises, he's under the foot of some giant Chinese company and the end of the day what he is able to do depends not on what he wants but on what shareholders want.
Ryder Lewis
"Why you didn't put these guys?"=/="The new OCs sucks"
Brody Hall
Please play SFA2 at the very least. I promise it's better than SFV.
Well duh, the lore is fucked. Geese is still alive when he should be dead. I just mean that the Rock as we know him probably wouldn't exist and he'd have to somehow play differently than Geese to justify his existence. The retconning bullshit is some DBZ-tier shit though. Though I have a theory that it's not Ash but Saiki which solves half of the fuckery.
Adam Morris
I actually like Zarina, Mian, and Kukhuri but I guess I'm focusing on their design philosophy change I don't like from SNK crossover to OC game.
He does play differently, he plays like Terry and Geese.
Lincoln Ortiz
There's just no demand for niche games like Kizuna Encounter, King of the Monsters, Magician Lord, or World Heroes.
Jason Bailey
KOF lore went to shit after kof 95
I played it but back then i was like 10 andprobably didnt grasp it in depth also everyone used only akuma somehow the raging demon was a novelty for everyone. I played lots of Alpha3 though i used to be bretty gud with Karin.
Gabriel Richardson
No, it went to shit after 99 all thanks to Falcoon.
Noah Cook
Erm, 97
Jordan Lopez
Well we already know SNK has non-KoF projects in the works to be announced this year, so I'm just gonna see where they go. And if they never get around to bringing back a series or characters; it doesn't stop me from going back to play the original games. Like I already know that I'll never see a 3rd Savage Reign/Kizuna Encounter game, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the original games.
I really don't care what SNK makes in the future, I just want them to keep making fun games and keep the pro-consumer approach them did with KoF XIV.
Grayson Sanchez
I was talking more for myself, I don't really dislike the OCs is just that the reason Oda give: "lol, too obscure, who cares" that is bullshit for me. It's a fucking crossover game who cares if it doesn't make sense? you have people throwing fireballs at each other all the time.
I never got that much into KOF lore, what's so fucked up about it?
Bentley Gonzalez
...
Dylan Garcia
Yeah, but that's also what Oda was wondering with Kasumi, as far as I could tell. Too many counter based things, I guess.
Well, for the basic shit, having the AoF characters that should be about 30 years older than they are thanks to AoF being in the 70s and KoF is the 2000s. Geese is still alive somehow, lots of bullshit with NESTS, and then Ash unmade himself because he killed his ancestor except now he's not dead because ???
And that's just the shit I know as a casual of the series.
Ryan Edwards
Pretty much this.
K was a Mary Sue no one liked, so they brought back Kyo and Iori with a half-assed return (They really did nothing special in the Nest story). The Nest story made little or no sense, and the Ash stuff was balls out retarded with last-minute Orochi shit added to Ashe's faggotry (which was dropped after Ashe killed Chizuru and nerfed Iori like a Mary Sue faggot). Ashe was a bigger homo and more unlikable than K'.
There's also the stuff said. Holy shit, Ashe was such a bad character (No wonder the West hated him). The KoF crew would be in their 50s+ with the Ikari Warriors, and the Fatal Fury guys would be in the 30s/40s.
Jace Thomas
I still don't get why Vice and Mature keep going back since they are canonically dead. And Iori should also be dead. And there is the MI universe. MI chars in KoF when?
Brandon Gomez
The world would have a period of mourning if SNK ever got rid of Iori let alone made him shit-tier.
Brayden Stewart
It's okay, MI is in the actual Fatal Fury Universe or something because Geese is dead in that one. Is Iori supposed to be dead? I know Vice and Mature have died and come back thanks to Orochi bullshit, or at least I assume that's how they came back.
Chizuru's not dead. She just lost her Sacred Treasure thanks to the faggot.
Daniel Parker
didn't she get it back in Iori's KoF XIV ending?
Carson Baker
Oh yeah I remember the king of faggots, who thought that was a good idea? I don't know if consider him the lowlest point in the series
Noah Long
The same guy who thought his Mary Sue Ninja in MI was great: Falcoon.
How can anyone take MI seriously? It was nothing more than Falcoon's masturbation material.
Xavier Carter
Capcom clearly doesn't care about this
Luis Wilson
Story in fighting games shouldn't be the main focus to begin with.
Tyler Fisher
Not the main focus, but it's a good vehicle to get people interested in characters. Some people just want to play a wandering warrior, an evil badass, or a goofball character. That parts of fighting game stories that tend to work most often and stick with people are rivalries, which don't need a lot of set up, but they need some. Story can do a lot to keep some players interested, especially more casual fans who won't get a new edition of a game for 2 or 3 new characters they might not even want to play. Even if it's just presented simply in an old arcade mode, people also like that familiar structure of single player content with the reward being some minor insight into their favorite character.
Except for all the early Cerebella mains who got rewarded for beating arcade by learning their main was a whore
Jordan Torres
>tfw cerebella main Marie was a fucking liar about here being pure.
Ryder Murphy
HNY 2017
How's SFV AKUMA gameplay-wise?
Dylan Torres
I actually like some newcomers like Sylvie, Nelson, Zarina, Mian, Luong, MuiMui and Love Heart. Didn't really had time to spend on others like Hein, Gang-Il and Xanadu. Also, I had some friends who never liked KOF before that found some of the new characters interesting and/or "cute".
That already happened 17 years ago by introducing an emo faggot named K' replacing Kyo and Iori at the arcades you needed to input a code to unlock them but it took a while before people learned the code and people bitched about it. and a S/M boss in that year.
I'm sorry, what? But aside from parallel subplots like Lin, Kensou and Whip, I didn't like the NESTS saga as well. Tales of Ash was better
KOF is in [CURRENT YEAR] ever since its conception in '94 in its own universe and modified facts. The AOF/FF one is left untouched in the '80s~'90s where Geese is dead, Tung and Kim are training previous bosses, Takuma was a mob henchmen and some other stuff. Think like capecomics.
MI is another universe. It was supposed to get a new game but KOFXIII almost bankrupt SNK again so many projects were cancelled. Also, Mature and Vice just like to mess around with Iori: imgur.com/a/QYIpn/
It was released in 2005 pal. And I didn't like Lee was a Vega clone in that game.
Jaxon Hall
Also, how was the tournament? We could start the next thread page 13, 700+ posts, yeah, yeah with some footage.
I got home pretty late so I couldn't watch anyway.
Nicholas Lee
The real reason: KOF13 was supposed to be two things: A finale for the Ash saga, and a complete version of 12. And 12 has Mature, which means they needed to add Vice, which means they needed to justify their return in a story game.
Nathan Lee
KOFXII was made because XIII (the actual game they were developing) wasn't ready and they needed to recover some losses from the development hell. You had many projects cancelled and important people(Falcoon, Nona) left during the development of the game.
Just look how the characters were missing moves, animations and Critical Counter was just tackled in.
And even XIII wasn't really a "complete" game with Adelheid missing in the final game but with artwork made for him, importance in the Story and code left making many thinking he would be DLC. But if you look, you can say Billy was made when they ran out of money considering his animations compared to Ash, Kyo and Iori. The taunts were half assed, some characters still have moves missing like Mai and there are no special intros in versus matches.
And honestly, the worst things in XIV are the ones that came from XIII: No taunts, almost no special intros, movesets and normals from XIII and focus on combos with MAX canceling (but at least they've toned down from the crazy TOD HDmode made possible)
Adam Cox
Every Holla Forumss are the same, user. 8/v/ is exactly like 4/v/. Just with more cancer allowed.
Adrian Morris
It depends the game. It depends the game. It depends the game.
Jaxon Morgan
Compared to what?
No, you didn't.
Because people are moron.
You don't know what Dubstep is, do you?
KoF lost its "SNK crossover" goal after 99. If you think "beloved characters" like Vanessa, Ash, Shermie, Yashiro… Characters created for the KoF series, just like Kyo and Iori, they are in the same level as Sylvie, Zarina or Shun'ei. If you want a new SNK crossover, ask for an NGBC2.
Chase Clark
I think I remember that topic or, at least, a similar that. I stand by my words. On one hand, I'm disappointed Yamazaki and Kasumi didn't make it in but I can accept CYS and Vanessa not being in because they can be uptight with the "lore". On the other hand, I think that of all recent FGs that got sequels, KoF has by far and large the best batch of newcomers so I can't be all that mad at them. Of course, this is all completely subjective; someone who's not seeing their favorite character return and can't stand the sight of any new character is kinda screwed.
t. the local Luongfag
Side note, a wild MvCI rumor appeared. I only trust the one that says the kikery will be through the roof. :^)
Ethan Flores
While embed related isn't the NYB 2016 Highlights, I think we can expect a highlight reel for the tournament soon.
Jayden Nelson
Good to know. For the next OP, make sure to trim down a little and update the news: pastebin.com/DtauGyu9 I don't know anything abou KI or Tekken7 so feel free to update as you like
Fuck off Ryce, tell something or don't tell anything.
You're right about that. But I still want to see Shermie, Brian and Shingo again someday.
Easton King
The balance is fucking atrocious and they took out most of the characters, this is shaping up to be yet another Tekken 4.
Owen Miller
They had to. The game was aiming a "restricted" cast without any too close clones. TTT2 wasn't a main Tekken game and a third of the characters were clones of someone else. You want Sebastian or Slim Bob to be playable again? Right now, the game misses a Chang, a Capo, Lei and Anna (I don't think Zafina will ever come back). They already said many times that they'll add more characters. It's only a matter of time. People just can't wait anymore.
Jackson Bailey
I can't believe non-specific Capcom Villain is going to be in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. everyone likes to point when and how Capcom went to shit, but deep in our collective hearts we all knew that it was the lack of non-specific Capcom Villain. with non-specific Capcom Villain returning all you faggots can't deny that Capcom's going to be great again. god bless MvCI
Justin Rogers
I don't think there is more than one female obscure capcom villain so who it is?
Julian Taylor
Female villains, don't know all that many.
Julian Scott
Oichi is kinda debatable.
At any rate, I doubt they'd add any of these. Not while the jackasses at CoA and Didni get a saying.
Connor Morales
We might end up making a compilation with twitch's highlight thingy, someone else had to replace the person who was supposed to stream at the last moment so the stream was kinda rushed, but still a lot of fun moments worth sharing.
Colton White
Oh, I really don't know shit about capcom.
He also praised the animators, so that must be one that was hard to animate.
Samuel Watson
Nevan and Oichi are all about dark miasma taking shapes so it's more special effects than anything else. Alexia is the same but with fire and plants. Juri's nothing they haven't before. Olga and Devilotte never really "fight" in their games. Daniella doesn't do anything special, besides screaming, stabbing and being a mental wreck. Ophelia is dumbed down Vega Donna and this one's actually really agile (dodges and hopping around the stage, using her extra arms to swing around beams). Rao has a demon transformation.
If there's any truth to the rumor, I wager it will be more RE stuff or someone from the DMC series if Itsuno really is announcing a sequel. Pic related would be pretty hype if they are indeed bringing giant characters. I'm not expecting anything interesting. Capcom's too [CURRENT YEAR], too thirsty for esports dosh to do "interesting".
Xavier Russell
Just make sure to upload the compilation to the thread once it's done, if you can.
Alexander Garcia
argument with friend
Brody Carter
Nigger, I'm looking from the perspective of 6, which in terms of characters was Tekken 5: DR + Alisa, Bob, Lars, Zafina (I think that's all of them). If they wanted to remove clones or characters which are too similar to each other, fine, (funny to think about since as far as I know all EWGFs are in 7) but removing established characters with fighting styles which are unlike any other character in the series like pretty much the ones you mentioned is not acceptable. As I said, it'll most likely be another Tekken 4 and how appropriate given that 7 too comes after a Tag game and comes out after a trilogy of games (in this case the second trilogy).
Elijah Parker
You forgot Miguel and Leo.
It's like questionning Ken and Akuma. They're the main characters of the game.
6 was a mess. Bobs everywhere, they didn't adjusted anything. If they did the same thing than 6, 7 could have more than 50 characters with Bruce and Josie or Raven and M.Raven having separated slots like Eddy and Christie or Kuma and Panda. What do you want? TTT2 being 7? After Miguel, they're at 34. They should not exceed 40, if they want the game to be fair in terms of matchup knowledge.
Justin Hill
In I said: Please try actually reading my fucking post next time.
Elijah Young
Nice blog post, faggot.
Jordan Gonzalez
Reading this discussion regarding Tekken 7's roster, I think we've reached a point where there are so many characters that it's impossible to please everyone. By Pleasing the Panda main, the Julia main is upset, or by pleasing the Miguel main, the Lei main is dissapointed.
Cooper Thomas
Yeah, what a faggot. Everybody knows that imageboards are for shitposting and >implyings.
Asher Baker
Don't worry. After T7, they'll reboot the series and everybody will be upset at the same time.
Dylan Smith
I think that given my trilogy theory that they'll strike gold with either 8 or 9 (or an update of either), just like Tekken 3 and DR were the best in the series. I also really like both Tag games.
Eli Mitchell
No, imageboards are for images, clearly. No discussion allowed.
Jaxon Walker
What could I expect from smashfags?
Landon King
I don't agree with you, sir.
Lincoln Bailey
wew lad
Jordan Jackson
Can buy a birthday cake for an anime statue but goes cheap with store brand glass cleaner? This person has their priorities just right.
Parker Murphy
what a shitty cake. I would cuck the jurifag if I was juri
Josiah Harris
A true Jurifag wants nothing but to have his head smashed on the floor by Juri's barefeet.
Mason Morris
Better fighting games out there.
Yea, I did.
You have shit music taste if you think Tekken 7's music is good.
Stop shit posting, Harada.
Ashe's story was horrible, and Ashe was an unlikable faggot. Even Venom and Eagle would hate on Ashe for being such an annoying faggot.
The balance is all over the pllace thanks to Akuma. It's a mess, and console exclusives like Lee, Miguel, and Kuma will make it worse. It's another Tag 2.
People were okay with trimmed down characters, but they have beef with the new character being mostly shitty out of Josie, Shaheen, and Claudio. Some characters like Kuma, Lei, Nina, and Julia should have been in Vanilla.
Chloe is more or less your Capo replacement. Hate to break it to you.
Connor Foster
Yeah, keep it vague. No reason to actually have an opinion that people can take seriously.
Adrian Myers
You're really stupid if that has to be spelled out after all the shitty fighters that came out.
