Doom/classic fps thread

Doom thread bitches
But while we're talking about old FPS, some ruskie is making a proper port of Blood to a new engine, the same guy who made BloodCM (port to EDuke32, which now finally has Tchernobog and the PlasmaPak levels). check it out here: m210.duke4.net/

How does Doom64EX stack up against emulating Doom64?

replaying Blood around Christmas has become a tradition to me

but seriously, the Phantasm's screams scared the living shit out of me when I encountered them the first time, before I knew they could be easily dealt with

It's probably the better solution. Better running, higher resolution, etc. Don't think it has any inaccuracies that make it different from emulating, it's a 1 to 1 port.

It works perfectly imo.
I had zero problems what so ever playing through the whole game

It's a shame they're piss easy, that scream is so good.

Is this the designated thread to worship the Lord and Saviour of the Doom community known as SgtMarkIV? Because it sure looks like it.

pls no bully, but I liked brutal doom 64.

Why are the Quake expansions so fucking good? I had played the main game before, but not the expansions, they are so much better than the main game, they add a lot of new features and some nice new weapons and enemies, the maps are mostly on par with episode four of the main game in size, are nicely detailed and have a pretty satisfying level of difficulty, 10/10.

Are there any community made Quake levels that are particularly good?

I never seriously played doom. What version should I play as my first doom for a serious play?

I want to play blood, but should I use that collection "A Pint of Blood" or something else?

Get the ultimate doom and play in either Chocolate Doom for the true vanilla experience or Doom Retro (doomretro.com/) for some slight improvements.

Get ZDoom and find the big IWAD pack somewhere or beg for it here, If you want I can upload mine and some good community Megawads, but I don't have Hexen because it sucks.

Not to dickride it too hard, but Blood Crossmatching is almost perfect (I say almost because it has a few bugs) and doesn't require any of the original files to play.

just get the GOG release which comes with all the expansions, and remember to apply bmousefix for unfucked mouse aiming
mouse aiming is enabled/disabled by pressing U too

after that you really should play Blood: Deathwish, which is a massive fan-made expansion with some absolute god-tier levels, some of which include Silent Hill, fucking moving airships, and I believe even a sequence where you assault a launch base, hijack its space shuttle and head off to fucking space
the final boss is even better than in the original game too, you'll see what I mean

Fuck i misread that as Doom, nevermind.

Arcane Dimensions

I assume you already know about it, but Quake Injector is essential. Just sort by top rated to find good shit. Also, I have to admit to never playing the Quake mission packs, any place that i can be spoonfed that isn't Steam where I can find them?

Emuparadise has them

...

mega.nz/#!b1hiGJTY!p05Qbsf0ADb7lM7wMui3z8SqIDMRAOrXWF9pcx9vsTg
This has the two expansions and the level pack a Bethesda employee made this year, I also found the music for the two ecpansions, which weren't included where I found the packs.

All right, so I've played through The Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and both Plutonia and TNT of Final Doom. I was thinking of playing through Plutonia 2 now; what am I in for? The original Plutonia was already pretty tough (fucking Go 2 It took forever to do right); how much harder can it get?

Been playing Nam, World War 2 GI, and Rise of the Triad.

Coming into Nam and WWII GI, I thought that, due to their unimaginative settings, that they were more than likely going to try to be 'realistic', and it turns out I was right. This is not a good thing, though, as the build engine isn't really what I would call a great engine for realism. Nam has potential, WWII GI is irredeemable garbage. Just a side note: the first stage of Nam plays almost nothing like the other stages I've played. Most of the later stages involve almost nothing but dense jungles and guessing where you'll be shot from.

As for Rise of the Triad. Not really much to say as I haven't played much of the game, but I like what little I've played so far. I just wish there was a bit more enemy and weapon variety.

For fuck's sake, get it together.

The don't use link shorteners link is still fucked friendo.

I can't be bothered to edit the infograph, but here you go.
mega.nz/#!81kU2ApI!oWhZbhDgWUJRB-ZFXrGqaiOppCxfT48WOT-vwoGur-8

There, also what's with the wordfilter on tiny.url what's the fucking problem with link shorteners?

doom sucks

wish you told me sooner, can't believe I wasted my time with this old ass game.

Played a bit of Dook 3D World Tour, and I wonder why the first episode has the most mazelike and confusing levels so far. I personally prefer the levels in the second episode.

Forget my ignorance but exactly what is new with this port of Blood and why should I play it instead of the GOG version that includes all the expansions?

The quality of these maps and the new features/enemies in this is transcendental. I'm just going through the test maps and they by themselves are incredible. I'm simultaneously inspired by how good community made maps and mods can be and demotivated that I could likely never make any content for games that held a candle to this.

Basically so you don't have to deal with Dosbox. If you can stand dosbox, go ahead and use it, but I personally can't. I find blood just fine like shit in dosbox whereas it runs well in BloodCM + native widescreen and smoother mouselook.

How do you do, fellow classic FPS?

Don't talk shit about HL1.
You can talk shit about the rest of the games all you want, but HL1 is good. Goldsrc is a great engine. Fuck you.

Okay, I don't think I've played any of Doom's contemporaries yet.

Which game should be the first I try and what emulator/port/other should I get to play it? I'm kind of afraid that I'm gonna get bored/frustrated by the controls or some other nuisance from times past.

hl1 is trash but it has alright movement

Quake is a must, my preferred engine is quakespasm but other autists might suggest something else.
Douk Nouk Kem is good. Don't know how the World Tour edition is, but I'd suggest EDuke32.
Blood is GOAT tier, just doesn't have a proper port so you'll have to use either DOSBox or BloodCM which both have problems (I'd strongly recommend the latter to someone who is afraid of frustrating controls).
Descent 2 is also great, the best source port probably being D2X-XL. I remember it being a bitch to set up, though.
Also try the various Doom clones, Strife, Heretic, Hexen, Dark Forces, all of which are good. The first 3 can be played in any Doom source port, dark forces can be played in the XL engine.

World Tour is so fucking trash as a re-release of DN3D, sound is lower quality, censored/changed medkits (because ayy lmao red cross), crappier duke voice, the new renderer is trash and weapon switching with the scroll wheel is SLOWER. Sure you have the ported xbox 360 rewind feature but that shit is for casuals but can be turned off. Even if you do get World Tour you're missing out on the better expansion packs namely Duke It Out in DC and Life's A Beach.

I also recommend Marathon because why not.

Which Marathon is best and is Aleph One the way to go?

Marathon 1 has best atmosphere, worst gameplay.
Marathon 2 and Infinity are better than 1 but the plot of 1 carries the whole game.

rock with alpeh one because bothering to set up a vm and install mac os takes too long and is gay

...

Nice trips.

Is there a Doom equivalent of Quake injector? QI is a superb way to sort maps by best voted and by time of release.

Having something similar for Doom would be awesome. Surprised if there isn't something yet given the relatively larger community size.

How could I play Doom on my Android phone? I have the wads and I cant get to my computer so I was wondering if there was anything on Google Play which I could use to run Doom.

You'd be better off playing it on your printer.

No, I don't think there's anything like Quake Injector for Doom, surprisingly enough. The closest thing is DoomSeeker, but that's for multiplayer.

There used to be an app called D-Touch on the Play store, but it was removed and the only way you can get it now is through the gay-ass Amazon store or as an apk file. These might work: beloko.com/apks.html

Is the MIDI or CD soundtrack better for Blood?

CD is better as the CD audio is basically a higher quality version of the MIDIs.

Plutonia is fucking unfair

...

What's the matter baby boy? Did you beat Doom 2 and think you were hardcore? Don't worry, Plutonia is here to put you in your place.
In all seriousness, it's ball bustingly hard. It abuses monster closets like nothing else and felt a lot more mazelike to me compared to Doom 2. You're going to need a little trial and error to get through it if it's your first time. It's far from unbeatable, though.

Fuck that reminds me, I never finished the official expansions. Which one was the least bullshit again, was it Plutonia or TNT?

Why yes, I'd like to play some fucking doom. I just compiled chocolate-doom, now where do I get the wads? The ultimate doom link in the share thread seems to be dead and don't use link shorteners (from OP's pic) is cloudflared. I refuse to deal with that bullshit.
No.

Only real bullshit part is the archvile fuck maze

You just wait for Plutonia 2

I've tried World Tour so I can say that they patched the sound to be more like the original versions, and I personally like the new visuals compared to the old. That being said its got a lot more annoying shit than just weapon switching being unbearable with the scrollwheel, with the new Duke talk JSJ sounds off in some of them like he hasnt played the role in quite a while and its out of place compared to the old sound effects. Though they advertise dev commentary so far it only appeared in one level in the first episode and a few times in later episodes, plus its half interesting and half forgettable. The new visuals make me feel less motion sick but it isnt a huge step up compared to the original graphics. And though I'm a newcomer to the Duke series the one thing that makes me feel sad for fans is that even with a sale discount the game still costs more than the Megaton or Atomic Editions, and fans arent even compensated with discounts or free upgrades the way that THQ Nordic and Deep Silver have done on Steam recently. Considering that Gearbox is confused on why they're so disliked now, a simple nice gesture I feel would go a long way into winning back respect.

get retroarch and download the prboom core, just dont use the 60fps mode

Plutionia 2
Fuckyou Boogaloo

...

Got Blood through GOG, but it seems that the mouse look has trouble tracking and sometimes lags. Not to mention auto-aim sometimes fudges my shots would Crossmatching port handle this better?

I have an old pasta about Blood I never tried, it might help.
>>>/test/41076

You first want to apply the bmouse fix which you can find and download online, but there's also an Ultimate Blood guide on Steam which I can't link due to browsing on my cellphone
It lists all kinds of performance tweaks, fixes for the music, control setup, and so on

You can disable autoaim by opening dosboxBloodsingle.conf or whatever it was called with Notepad, and add -noaim behind blood.exe

Also jesus christ this game is unreal on Well Done, I knew Blood always was a hitscanfest but christ

Arcane Dimensions is the best FPS I've ever experienced holy shit, all the content is absolutely amazing, I just feel bad that Quake itself at this point is so old that few people will ever experience this masterpiece.

I'm not even done but the content is great, Loved that 3 barrell shotgun and the Undead smashing axe, I loved the new enemies too, the wizards that summon those skulls from Doom and the new variations like two sword death knight and the Ogre with the hammer. I hope it has some good bosses.

My negro

Also, does anyone feel like the mouse aiming is off when playing Quakespasm on a 1920x1080 resolution? It's as if it doesn't recognize raw input, I have a hard time leading my shots when strafing at the same time, which I don't with other ports like DirectQ and DarkPlaces.

Why are train levels so fucking good?
Seriously, if you arranged the types of levels on a scale, trains would easily be in top 5

small tight spaces encourage a lot of creativity on the designers' part to make something that utilizes the lack of space efficiently

The plasma gun instantly gave me a boner, I fucking love it, it just feels perfect, only uses one cell ammo per shot too so it lasts ages.

Soon.

Does anyone know some cool map/full-conversion wad with a Christmas theme? Thanks

Massmouthmas.

Lads I'm trying to decide whether to play the PSX Doom or the N64 Doom, which is better?

N64.

TNT

The BMouse Fix saved me a great deal of grief, thank you guys!

I saw a Gundam weapons mod on /m/, wondering if it has progressed into full on SIEG ZEON.

Just found it again, and it hasn't.

N64 Doom is a completely new game, PSX Doom is just a port with nicer lighting and a spooky soundtrack.

Does anybody of you know what's the official way to contact Sgt. Mark IV? I've got some questions for him, send him a PM over Moddb already a few weeks ago but no response so far.

...

I tried to play doom3 for the first time a few days ago. It was the worst shooter I have ever played.

I'm so glad I missed it back then. No wonder half life 2 eviscerated it.

Only one I can think of is H2H-XMAS. Some of the maps are pretty bad, but it's christmas nonetheless.

well, it's not really a shooter

Here's one.

doomworld.com/vb/wads-mods/92010-christmas-doom-compilation-vanilla-compat/

Anyone knows if I can use cutscenes in BloodCM?

Is Quake 2 any good?

It's pretty decent, you might want to try out the expansions too while you're at it

just be thankful you haven't played NumaleDoom.

Honestly in terms of being games, Doom 3 far surpases Half Life 2. HL2 really lacks the enemy variety from the first game or Doom 3, there's a lot of pointless vehicle sections, and though theres some good moments like Ravenholm there isnt enough of them.

Doom 3's problem though was that it wanted to be more of a horror shooter, and its clear with the emphasis on darkness.

dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/66496479/NearlyallIWADSyouneed.zip
I have this shitty archive.

Cool, thanks.

Hey Guys; MoM user here, I was wondering if you guys would be interested in seeing the new trailer I released~?

What's MoM?

Memoirs of Magic; a Project I been making in GZDoom. I usually post this in AGDG, but I have to wait for a new thread now. I wanted to make sure before hand posting here!

...

W-Well H-Here we go!

That's whimsical as fuck.

Noice

I guess children need games too.

Thank you!

I actually cant remember why I made this non violent. I still included as much gibs as possible however without it being violent!

I wouldn't worry about it being kid friendly. Doom probably isn't as violent compared to games now.

Oh, I am not aiming for it to be kid friendly. Its just styled after those old JRPGs ala Shining Force II, so thats why Its the way it is. I am worried about gore or anything!

I'm sold
I'm a bit skeptical

That looks really good. I love the artstyle. Only criticism I'd give is that the weapon sounds could do with a little more power. Doom does this pretty well, listen to the sounds monster attacks make.

oh shit, that's cool

It should be noted that Skeleton Revolver (Called the Death-Blow) is used for summoning skeletons which you can explode!
It should be noted thats the first time I showed one of the summons. All the summons are dragon related!
Your Skepticism is warranted

The Majority of the SFX in the project are free to use Japanese Sound effects (which are generally used in Jap TV shows). I always have trouble finding Free, not copyrighted sfx.

Well thats ominous as hell.

I noticed in the features video that you put the effort into making player models for third person viewing but also for angles that are not necessarily useful for a game where you will be attacking things in front of you. Do you intend for multiplayer or something?

Yes, this is planned for multiple. Normally 3rd person view mode is not possible in GZdoom without cheats; the only time you are forced into 3rd person in this game is when you use the summons!

The game itself looks good but your character designs are fucking hideous magical realm abominations that look completely out of place in the game. It almost resembles an otherwise very nice Kickstarted/patreon game where some rich furfag backer paid enough to get his cringeworthy fursonas into the final product because commissioning fucktons of furry porn wasn't enough for him.

He messaged me on Twitter when I @'d him, but I'm pretty sure that was more because he didn't credit me on things.

I would argue two simple things in regards to that criticism. The First being the major difference here is that I am not spoiling a project by injecting what is otherwise out of character for the setting when the setting is of my creation. My second point I would argue is that I wanted a lot of variety (I will once again cite Shining Force II/Breath of Fire). Hawkman, Lizardmen and Demons are pretty typical Fantasy Tropes, alongside Undead, Humans and Ratkin. I also have more standard selections too such as Dwarves and the like. I can understand that is not everyones cup of tea, however!

Shooting standard fantasy critters is pretty unique for a Doom mod already I'd say.

Do you happen to be high on LSD?

They're not typically drawn like furry porn characters.

You clearly not Seen the Hawkman of Shining Force and some of the characters ala Garr in Breath of Fire

When does it come out you cuck.

Ehh, I'd say Mr. He-Man in the middle looks fine, but he's sandwiched between an heavily telegraphed cock bulge and a shota. Intentional or not, it looks like furry porn/

Garr actually has a badass design and doesn't just look like a badly-drawn yellow muscle dude with a bird beak slapped on his face to satisfy someone's fetish. It's like a BBW fetishist trying to justify his game's cast of morbidly obese women by saying that other games have fat women too, ignoring or not realizing that they are drawn very differently from his fetishized designs.

I expect this game to be complete by next year.

If it helps, you can play as the human/lich and just genocide all the "Fur" characters. Every NPC is planned to be killed albeit the Lord British inspired King.

Do you have like a blog or something so I can see what the game is actually about though?

It is mentioned in the youtube description, but you can also follow the updates here: strawberryoctopusproductions.tumblr.com/

That's MooM for you I guess.

Honestly I just think the yellow dude is just a terrible design. Everything about how it's set up would only fit as a joke in some kind of bullshit mildly self-parodical 90's cartoon, and even then it's a bad bet. You can play dumb as to why you designed him like this, but I think you need to reconsider your priorities here.

does anyone wanna play doom with me?

Is there any way to make the mouselook in blood not feel fucked up?

Been playing Brutal Doom 64. It's pretty fun.
I actually haven't played Vanilla in ages. BD64 isn't vanilla but it's closer to it than Project Brutality is. I aughta play vanilla more often.

I'm always down for some doom

I have Ultimate doom with chocolate doom ready if you're down. I'm on unnamed server

No i'm on vixterra #2

I really don't like the low resolutions, but whatever. How do I join you?

just go to the chocolate doom setup then click join network game then click find servers on internet, there should servers click on vixerra #2 one then press f10

I can't rejoin now fuck

join the unnamed server. The one that starts with 72.

I got disconnected

He only responds on twatter now? Damn that's a real deal breaker for me, since one needs a fucking phone adress in being able to keep a twatter account. Fuck this bullshit.

The reason I ask here is because I want to take codes from his mkivvehicledemoqfix.pk3 mod but it has dubious licensing where one file says it is ok taking shit from there with credits and on other files a permission is needed which confuses me.

I think it's mainly the artstyle of these images that is giving people the furfag impression. Nothing in the video besides the green dragon thing really gave me that impression.

But did you play through Doom 1 & 2 with pistol start?

On that topic, how many here have actually completed Doom 1 and 2 as they were intended - Pistol start on every map?

Fuck my Anus

Fuck that shit.

Lol at this spergy nonsense. The fact that they programmed it to where you keep the items you've collected should have been a clue that maybe they don't intend for you to start every stage with the pistol. Not to mention that they don't even give you an option to start every map with a pistol (you have to die or use cheats). Seems like if that's the way it was intended to be played there would be some form of non-convoluted way of doing it. Of course, why would they? As mentioned earlier in my post, they made a conscious effort for you to keep your items. A pistol start on every map would make sense if there was no story whatsoever and none of the maps were connected in anyway, but there is a story, no matter how barebones, and the maps are connected in some way or another. It's not just going from random map to random map, it's a cohesive whole that is meant to have a sense of progression. This is further supported by the fact that id decided to scrap episodes in Doom 2, which eliminates any form of having your items stripped from you unless you die. Another thing I would like to point out, the fact that dying makes you lose all your items seems to suggest that id not only let you keep your items to give a sense of progression, but also to reward you for playing well.

Now I know some people might be thinking, "But they designed each map to be beatable with a pistol start." This is true, but it doesn't have anything to do with pistol starting every map being the intended way to play. It was done so that if you died and didn't save you weren't totally fucked and forced to restart the entire episode/game.

You may enjoy the self-imposed challenge of a pistol start (I enjoy it too sometimes), but to pretend that it's the intended way of playing the game when design decisions directly contradict that notion (keeping your items after every map, no practical way of starting with pistol on every map, etc.) is just ludicrous. I suppose next you'll tell me that Skyrim is intended to be played without raising your HP, or using Alchemy, Enchanting, Smithing?

They specifically balanced the original Doom 1 & 2 maps for pistol starts. Hence why it's too easy when you keep all your weapons, health and armor. You are basically playing on easy mode if you do not decide to play them all with pistol start on UV. The fact they didn't account for players keeping weapons is fairly irrelevant, it was always the way it was meant to be played; haven't you wondered why there are multiple pickups for basic weapons on different maps? I.E, The Shotgun in the beginning of map 18 in Doom 2. I also don't understand your logic with Skyrim.

multiplayer? coop?

Multiplayer spawns are different than single player ones. Many weapons are highlighted for singleplayer. This is from a time where multiplayer wasn't the focus, remember?

To clarify - Weapon spawns are the same iirc, player spawns are not.

You might actually want to do some minor tweaks to hawkman and gunslinger demon. I know you've already made sprites for all these characters, but I have some suggestions anyway.
The biggest and most annoying problem with both of them for me anyway that the crotch area sticks out like a sore thumb. This looks extremelly out of place and rings the wrong bells for both of them. This isn't the case with lizardman however because he looks like a 200% barbarian who needs no armor.
To make people feel that hawkman's leather thingy is just for censorship puproses you could at least cover everything below waist in plate armor or add actual pants.
As for demon with revolvers… let's say I'm still quite uncertain if there're black pants under brown pants or is it his black underwear sticking out. Just make it all black pants with brown holsters and brown belt. You may also throw in a shirt of a color that doesn't clash with the rest of his design and cover his face with that neckwear instead.

I play with pistol starting simply because I usually record demos and usually they don't let me save anywhere I want. I don't like multi-level demos as it's uneasy to track which demo has what levels completed when I just name them "%wadname%01" and then just increase number every time I record another one.

Fuck me sideways. I definitely wanted to say that it was to not to make them feel that way.

yeah sure the first multiplayer fps game had no focus on multiplayer. in fact they didn't care so much single player maps had deathmath versions

Neat.
>that dragon

Oh, God, I don't even think you read any part of my post. It seems I may have pegged you as having the wrong syndrome, so I'll try and keep it simple. Your hangup seems to be that you are projecting what you think Doom should be onto the game despite the fact that several design decisions clearly indicate id did not share your vision. Your belief is that id intended the game to be played at its most difficult and balanced even though they let you keep your items and don't give you the option to play the maps with a pistol start. How you cannot connect the dots here is beyond me. It is quite obvious from those two decisions alone that total balance was not id's top priority. As I said earlier (which you probably didn't read), id quite obviously valued a sense of progression over total balance, otherwise, they would not have made the decisions they made.

If there's one thing I want you to think about, it's this: Why, on earth, if they want you to play with a pistol start, do they not so much as even give you a level select in the menu? Why do you have to commit suicide or open the console? Do you believe id was totally incompetent?

I know I'm wasting my time, though. The fact that I addressed the reason they balanced maps around a pistol start didn't keep you from repeating the point again shows me how this conversation will go. Your only argument will be blustering on and on about balancing the maps around a pistol start no matter what points I or anyone else make. Not to mention the erroneous assumption that you can't take other maps into consideration when balancing a map, or that denying you items (not all pistol starts even do this) is the only way the game can be difficult, but that's a whole other headache that I'm not interested in getting into.

I was alseep when you wrote this, but I can take it into consideration!

No, I am not just saying that either. I need to redo the hawk mans sprites a bit anyway, so I could factor that in his design

Search engines tell me I'm the only person with this issue. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Tiling window manager? Those fuck with FPSs a lot. Especially i3.

Well, I've got the default gnome-shell window manager, which is mutter. Which is stacking.
Maybe the problem is gnome altogether? Or maybe it's the nouveau drivers.

I've never heard of Gnone or drivers causing something like that. If you want to eliminate Gnome as a possibility install something light like Fluxbox and try it in that.
Alternatively try GZDoom or Zandronum, just in case it's a wonky build of ZDoom

Now if only Garr wasn't the worst party member in the game, that'd be nice.

I tried GZDoom, I'll try Zandronum now. Thanks.

Zandronum actually works. Thanks bro!

opinions on Grezzo 2? other than sometimes being a goddamn thing that breaks bad from time to time?

It stole so many resources SgtMark is hiding in shame
In plus it has shit italian memes

...

It's neat. I guess I'd like it more if I was Italian, but the mindless nonsense is entertaining enough. The title screen is great.

The fact remains that the levels were originally playtested with pistol starts in mind (see: archive.is/EWaJ5#selection-345.53-345.254).

However, the game itself does not do much to reinforce that pistol starts are the way Doom is meant to be played. Secrets and exploration reward you with surplus ammo, and taking it away in the next level seems almost contradictory. You only restart with a pistol if you die, making it feel as if pistol starts are for losers rather than an intended handicap. Losing players would need their previous loadout rather than lose it. While pistol starts would be a proper handicap for the unintended easy difficulty of Doom, it just wasn't handled well. Another thing is to consider that Doom was Romero's baby, not Petersen's. Petersen only joined development 10 weeks before the release of Doom and the engine hadn't changed to take away all the players' items between levels in that time. The fact that there was no sensible pistol start mechanic in Doom 2 either should be telling.

Even so, it's hard to argue an 'intended' playstyle for Doom, like saying that Doom is about getting the fastest time or getting all the items when you can never efficiently get 100% for everything while getting the fastest time too. Romero placed a large focus on par time and speedrunning, yet the presence of secrets and the level clear screen also ranking all the enemies you killed and the secrets you found would contradict that. And the level clear screen does not reward you with pistol starts at all, let alone mention it. Not even a hidden 'Pistol Start Mode' or anything. Pistol starts would have made more sense if they were promoted rather than treated as a punishment for dying.

What mods have you been playing recently, m80s?

What would make it even better?

Back to the ZDoom forums with your faggotry, maybe they'll suck your dick there for bashing Based Mark.

My first mod was actually Aeons of Death

I've recently rediscovered an old cyberpunk mod made about two years ago by some dudes. It's pretty rad but really needs more maps.

Old porn mods, including one that adds dicks to every monster. I haven't found any that adds tits, yet.

Aw shit, I meant to spoil that.

Well don't leave me hanging nigga, pass that shit.

Sorry mate, was busy fucking around trying to find if the group made any newer versions, i fondly remember one where they actually added a laser pistol but i don't seem to have it anymore.
volafile.io/get/Cp6srv9a_2oI/cyberpunkshootdown-v4.15.pk3
Eitherway the mod's about surviving wave after wave of several flavours of facist cybercops going after you with laser beams in a generic store because you decided to not pay taxes or you stole oil/cyberaugs/guns or some other shit i don't know and don't care.

You start with an UMP45 but shotgun troopers (and later cyberSWATs) drop more weapons, you should bind a reload key as it doesn't use the default zdoom one as well. The game technically 'ends' at the 51st wave, but there's no mechanism that truly ends the level, so try to survive as much as you can before being overwhelmed.

Cool.

the goddamn doom thread will not die again due to inactivity you fucking faggots, bump this shit.

So apparently the latest PC port of Turok uses an amalgam of the Doom64 EX renderer codebase and fucking Chocolite Strife. Kaiser built it to be hnadled like stuff like ZDoom.

archive.is/Bp708

So, that means that in theory one of you guys who is experienced making maps with ZDoom or similar engines can make maps with Turok.

Man, I remember this.
Shame that it died.

bump

I think Plutonia is my favorite fps experience ever. Do Quake or any other old fps games have an equivalent?

I agree. Half-Life was part of the natural evolution of fps genres that led to the perfectly streamlined, smoothly accessible cinematic experiences like Call of Duty and Doom 2016.

What's up with the blue tinting?

hey, that looks neat, something to introduce to the youngins maybe…
son of a BITCH

Mapset qualify as a mod? Ancient Aliens, otherwise I think it was Guncaster.

Ancient Aliens has a bunch of slaughtershit trial-and-error going on for it. I've never considered it a well-flowing way to play Doom. It might work if it had Duke Nukem relaunch type rewind thing to mitigate the stupid "you fail because you didn't know where to run" moments without forcing the player to spam quicksave and load.

Guncaster needs levels and enemies designed for it. The fast running speed doesn't really work in the more closed maps where vanilla Doom shines. Oddly enough, I think it would fare better on Quake engine as the jumping and gliding mechanics deserve more vertical spaces, and I think it would benefit more from having few strong and dynamic enemies instead of Doom's weak but dumb masses.

Didn't they release a mapping tool just a while back?

There's a palette that has a lot of fucking purple color. All default textures have a crapton of purple tint.

C'mon, user. It's just innocent cute animal characters. I'm sure your kids will be fine.

I don't mind the dragon, but the animations look actually kinda garbage on that part

It doesn't explain it. It looks literally like a 20-something percent opacity blue flat rendered on top of the screen. Even the hud elements have that muddy blue overlay.

I just realized that the way the dragon stretches itself, how the lower body doesn't have any clothing, and the attack being liquid-based, it kinda makes it look like it's giving a golden shower on the enemies.

No, it actually uses a new pallete that's basically the exact same as a the doom pallete with a purple gradient. Are you sure your monitor or zdoom color settings aren't fucked?

Actual ingameâ„¢ screenshot. In level editor it will look just as purple.

Yes it is in fact part of the full editor itself and not just a level editor, but it's Steam only right now and the animaton editor, texture editor, model replacer, and particle effects that's being built in to that level editor is also in the works. The whole editing tool package is designed to handle like ZDoom and other sourceport Doom engines. Even the stuff you have to code right now is actually pretty simple to do without it. So yeah, not having multiplayer is the biggest issue which Turok 2 will solve. If it wasn't 20 fucking bucks, that's the second biggest issue.

All in all I think if you want to do 3D map making with the simplicity of Doom this is it.

How come in MetaDoom, the SSG doesn't look like an actual SSG from any of the games?

I don't remember having that look in a DOOM game.

I want to play System Shock, is the "Enhanced" version worth playing or should I stick with the classic?
I figured this was the best place to ask without making a new thread

It plays exactly the same, might as well pirate it and use it.

enhanced version lets you play in higher resolutions without having to bother with fucking Dosbox, so I'd say it is the more definitive version for modern systems

I remember hearing that the console ports of RTCW had exclusive content, including levels, new enemies, co op, MP and more shit.

Is there a mod for RTCW for PC with all that stuff?

If the kids dont browse further into the fanbase, furries always leaves a after taste of shit in any game with anthros.

Fucking hell

The difference between my game and the Anubis one is my game isnt a porn game at all

Legit Question; is they something lewd/gay about my designs or something. I am not trying to play dumb or anything, I am just surprised people seem to think some of the designs lewd!

For the looks of it, the bulge bird could look semi-"lewd" if you try hard enough.
But have in mind that nothing is safe from furry faggatory and lust, unless its very niche and obscure.

Just texture on some pants for him and scalies won't want to fuck him so much.

Also I'm a scaly myself and have no strong feelings for the dragon either way.

Uncovering the stomach, smug look, the armor shows a lot of skin, the crotch is very visible and looks like it's hiding a dick because of the lighting.
Probably the least sexual of them all, just looks like a barbarian expect for the fact that it seems to look as if it's not wearing pants.
The smug look I get that's the part of the gunslinger character but it just gives that impression when compared with other elements the uncovered belly button, the crotch having a different color than the rest.

Generally it's down to people interpreting those small things in a wrong way and the fact that those are anthropomorphic characters. Those two factors make the characters look slightly sexual at first glance.

They aren't lewd, the opposite intention is implied while the characterization is of that correlating with degenerate visages. They (the designs, namely the lizardman) are on the borderline of being something a furfag would commission as his fursona or for an specific fetish, this is the main concern those anons have with your designs. As of why this is bad and for an example of such designs and why it is abhored by those anons, if you have the stomach to handle hardcore smut and cringey shit, lurk a bit over on >>>/furry/ for a hard reality check.

Regardless, they could do with slightly more traditional designs, like wearing pants or something. They don't neccessairly stand out in first person, but some people may be put off with some of them.

I don't think the designs in are related to Strawberry's WAD at all.

Look at the character portraits in the video, also, left and right upper corners of the pictures.

Shit. I'm retarded.

Nono, they are, thats half the playable cast there. The other half consist of a Lich, Human Cleric and a Ratkin thief.

I think you don't have to change the designs of anything I see in the gameplay trailer itself. Though perhaps alter the way you present them. I didn't get the furbait-click from anything else but the fact that the first shots of the dragon is showing his wonderfully muscular legs and crotch/ass. Also, as said, the attack in the third pic seriously looks like the dragon is pissing on the enemies. Please, don't tell me you didn't realize it.

Add some darker shading to the dragon's inner side of legs. It will make it look better. As for the animations, I would consider making him do some sort of JoJo-style flamboyant poses that are clear to read. The current "standing stick" is kind bland the way it is at the moment. The swimming attack is interesting as an idea, but I would seriously consider applying it as making it look good (immersive) would require significant amount of more detailed animation and particle shit to really underline the fact that it's diving into geometry like water. I am sorry, but I think it looks confusing in the trailer.

These full portraits are kinda lewd, though. Especially the eagle, holy fuck~

Also, as a final note, fix the fucking perspective on your guns.

I think just giving the bird and the gunsligner some more clothes would just suffice. Although I guess that the bird was supposed to be a manly muscular man that probably boasts his manliness, still I think that giving him something that doesn't put so much emphasis on the crotch would be a good idea.

whats wrong with the perspective of the gun as oppose to other 2D Fps games, may I ask?

also, the hydro blast is coming out of his chest, but I now realize how weird it looks coming from behind

Don't change the designs, they are perfectly fine for your game and fit within the world. Ignore the people asking you to change it.

Also, furries ruin everything, no matter what you do to prevent that from happening.

Maybe the mobile games?

Criticism is still good; I do take into consideration design stuff such as characters and the colors of things.

Yeah, never getting mainstream is only thing that could prevent or reduce the furfag presence in the fanbase. Furries always take r34 to the next level, but you can still fly under the radar for some time.

Perhaps.

I liked how the mod even uses unused concepts though.

It looks like it was rendered from orthogonal perspective, meaning it doesn't have a vanishing point. Usually you should do the guns so that the point of aiming is the vanishing point for the gun's barrel. Also, look into the mysterious art of anti-aliasing. Those lines on the gun are really rough. I recommend rendering it with proper shading and sampling and doing the toon-stuff in Photoshop. If you want good reference on how your pixel art should look technically, look at some of the guns (not all) in Guncaster.

O-Oh, About that…
Although I can easily change it. Most of the sprites in game are rendered from 3D models themselves, so its an easy fix

That seems like a pretty big oversight, how did you manage that?

thats because everything I have done is in an Orthodontic View. Its better for spriting and getting things to look the way you want. All the weapons are rendered that way.

What's up with all youtube players playing Quake without the soundtrack? Is it some sort of consensus that it's better without Trent Reznor's music? I was thinking about playing that Arcane Dimensions thing. It looks really nice.

It's okay user. Just remember to credit our feedback by thanking "that one imageboard guy" in the credits.

I think part of why Quake's expansions are good is because they were meant to fill the holes from the first game, which is why there's Thor's hammer in the first one.

You have to set it up specifically to play the music in a sourceport that supports it because the original game uses CD audio.

We didn't play it with the music even at release as it required running off a CD. The music was also considered to be fuckawful in the Doom community.

Some of the tracks have weird frequencies that give me a massive fucking headache, but still.

I think that's the intended effect of industrial music. Not that it doesn't fit Quake III very well. Where did the dark mystic motif of Quake go?

I don't mean headache in an atmospheric sense, like Silent Hill's music. I mean it causes me real physical discomfort, like something's nibbling on my brain. It just makes me want to turn it off. The tracks that don't do that are good, though.

Exactly. I should try playing Quake 3 Arena with headphones on.

Migraine-inducing.

Finished Quake 1 today. I played 2 back when it came out, but this is the first time I played 1. It was fun and felt like a 3D Doom. Going to play through 2 now. It feels weird playing it in a modern way. The graphics are much prettier than I remember and I'm using an LCD and mouse. Back then I could beat the game with just the keyboard. I also didn't know any English back then. It's bizarre to understand the dialogue. Can't wait to hang out in the hot tub.

thats neato torpedo dude. although sometimes the screen is a bit obstructed.

...

...

bmouse works if you can figure out how to set it up

not clicking that shit user, at least webm it instead of shilling your favorite e-celebs

TNT: Evilution is god-awful. Did id really pay for this shit?

Better than Plutonia. Also, according to wiki it was supposed to be released for free, but Romero decided that it should be sold for dosh.

It was one of the first commercially-viable megawads, and it looked pretty good for the time.

If you hate elegant design and love getting fucked by chaingunners, sure.

Yeah, no, this is bottom of the barrel in terms of any form of design, whether it be architecture, enemy placement, item placement, you name it (metal and habitat stand out in particular). Just out of curiosity, have you ever finished it? I hear people say they prefer TNT because it's more 'fair', but I get the feeling they didn't actually play much, because you don't have to get very far to encounter things that people would say is 'unfair'. One of the staples of this Megawad seems to be needlessly gigantic, featureless, coverless rooms usually populated with hitscan enemies, and I'm quite certain most people would find this to be unfair. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe people who say they prefer TNT did finish it, but I just can't see people who think Plutonia is 'unfair' ever slogging through a map like Mount Pain. Of course, I could be wrong and you just like it more due to the architecture or what not, but I find this even less likely due to how ugly most of TNT's maps are.

Really? I'm relatively new to Doom and all (only been playing about a year), but were most user made maps that ugly back then?

They are both pretty shit and ugly. But Plutonia has a bigger tendency to shut you in coverless rooms with Archeviles.

I'd say the attempts at techbase detail and some of the larger outdoor maps like crater aren't bad for the time. Plutionia like I said has a more elegant design, and TNT's actual player experience is just bad, but in my limited experience it's one of the first big megawads, so that gave it credence.

The Doom community is longer then the capacity to make maps that look good aesthetically. Good and bad maps are more in terms of fun, and there is an overabundance of maps that exist purely to be hard for the sake of it. The fad changes each time too.

I'd say both had their share of good levels and bad levels but one is chaingunners, the other is revenatns/archvilles.

You may check Memento Mori, which was TNT Evilution's competitor to be included in Final Doom. But yeah, it was pretty much the beginning of fan made stuff. No idea what did you expect.

My memory failed me. Disregard that nonsense. You may want to check Memento Mori anyway.

Does anyone wanna play Doom? I'd like to play some Doom. Would anyone else wanna host a Tribes:Next night one of these days?

I'd be down for some doom. What sourceport though?

gzdoom, apply glowmaps and smoothdoom for aesthetics. Go through the settings in detail and tweak as you please.

If you want more vanilla experience, just use zdoom.

But zdoom (and gzdoom for that matter) sucks for multiplayer?

Oh, multiplayer? I think Zandronum was the go-to in that matter at least a while back.

fuck me I feel old now

I wouldn't call Doom 2016 streamlined, only a bit casualised with the drops scaling and stuff.
The upgrade stuff felt the most out of place especially with all of the interfaces.

So I've fucked around with all the lighting settings for gzdoom, but no matter what I do the 2nd level for doom2.wad is almost entirely pitch black. Can anybody help me out?

Even id fucked this up when they added Crash to Quake 3.

It's not easy to get Quake running with the music.
Also, Trent (or somebody with the access to the original songs) is apparently finally officially releasing the soundtrack. It's been over 20 years and during that entire time NIN fans have been asking for an official release.

I spent fucking hours just trying to get the music playing properly in original Quake and both mission packs. I can get the soundtrack to play on the original Quake but the mission packs play the original soundtrack and not their own soundtracks.

By the way, does anyone know how I can set Master Levels for Doom II to play as an episode of Doom II? I looked up one of the guides in the Steam community and I don't know where I am supposed to put the .wad file or what .config file I have to edit.

That really grinds my gears too - I want to see more /fit/ chicks in vidya & Holla Forums dammit!

This will probably help.

forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=20795

That chaingun+drill combination seems cool as all hell. Really digging it. I hope the magic doesn't get overcomplicated though.

I like those designs actually except the mid one, though he looks like Skeletor mixed with the Nameless One so I am okay with him too.

...

It feels only like yesterday when good mods were being made, right? Now there's absolutely nothing on the zandronum server list except fucking ghouls vs humans and complex doom. No soul playing Push. No person mapping outside of goddamn japs. And the only highly anticipated mods are stuck in development hell since 2015.

So, i've found like clear versions of these two maps from DOOM, is there a clear version of the hell map too?

I just made my first doom map, I don't know why it took me so long to get into, it's really fun.
Still a bit confused on sky textures though

Can't you just rip them from doom.wad itself with slade? It supports conversion from .imp to .png, which is loads better than .gif.

Sorry for my retardation, but thanks.

Oh fuck

Doom confirmed beta uprising simulator

But you don't get to kill normalfags?

I just had a great idea for a new mod.

What? They looked like demons to you?

Doomguy is the purest husbando

Installing THIS today. Its going to be a good day today.

Well user according to the sprites they do. Or do you want to tell me they are normalfag demons?

you talkin' shit, m8?

That first image has to be fake, her arms are half as thick as her torso.

oh so kids who played doom at release grew up and finally hit the nostalgia stage. have a sage

Clearly the possessed shotgunners and chaingunners are all the normalfag scum.

Just get Quakespasm, then create a folder called "music" in the id1 directory and place the music files in it, they should be named track02 through track11. The same applies for the expansions.

Go be a newfag somewhere else.

even Trent knows it was the worst thing he ever attached his name to, sadly there are still many nostalgia-goggle'd nerds incapable of grasping that.

Quake would play music off of any CD that was loaded in the drive, most of us the ones with taste made heavy use of that undocumented 'feature'.

Not if you're seriously intending to play Doom95 it's not.

that's some nice bait you've got there, shame if somebody were to respond to it.

Is the music really considered that bad? It's not mind blowing but it fits the game pretty well I think, the whispering in some of the tracks makes some of the levels in episode 4 pretty spoopy.

I just dread the day some super retro 2D/3D fps from some (((indie))) sjw company hits the steam and everyone will want to jump on that bandwagon

That's not music, it's just noise. They didn't need a celebrity with Trent's name recognition to have ambient whisper noises in some levels, but it sure did make a good excuse to attach his name to the marketing.

Krack already tried it.

There were attempts.

None of them really took off outside of blatant paid propaganda schemes, asides from embed related there were Wrack from the dude who used to work on Skulltag and some others i forget the name of. They're all garbage.

The main appeal behind Quake and Doom (after their tight gameplay) is them being made open source, making them unparalleled when it comes to community made tools, modifications and content; unless someone making an oldschool FPS understood this and also managed to deliver great core gameplay, their game would be short lived. It would also have to differentiate itself somehow because Doom is already such a tight gameplay package with so much community content around it, if you simply attempted to take it on directly with a 2.5D shooter there would be little reason for anyone to move from Doom. This is already apparent, considering the modding community for lots of other old shooters like build engine games and Marathon is way smaller, or in some cases dead entirely. I'd be pretty stoked if someone actually made a good FPS that was focused around this from the start, being as open to modding and community content as possible. If I ever stopped being a useless faggot and got gud at programming something like this would be my dream project.

Those sure are some hot opinions friendo.

Music is just organized sound, buddy.

Try using this
moddb.com/games/blood/downloads/ouwb-steam-gog-patch-v10-lite

But wasn't wrack made by the guy who "made" Cube and Cube2 Sauerbraten?

I believe Unreal Tournament was the one that attempted this, it achieved it greatly with UT99 and UT2K4. However it always ends up being jewed by executives, like the EULA that the UE4 has portrays.

Nope, it was developed by Carnevil, former lead developer for the multiplayer-focused sourceport Skulltag. It was succeeded by Zandronum once he fucked off from his indefinite hiatus on updates and decided to leave the community to rot. He made a certain crybaby-esque post about the split when it happened, since Skulltag itself was not open source and it required one of the actual coders to leak it and make it so.

Why can these games never have a decent artstyle? On a different note, how optimistic is everyone about the Bombshell prequel not being shit?

Looks more of a Quake ripoff that racemixed with Halo, while featuring a RNG-based levels. It brings some freedom of movement with the wall-run feature.
Probably its worth a pirate.

Because its more of a tryhard attempt that tends to miss the point, like they think that old games didnt/couldnt have good artstyle because of "muh bad graphics".

Would this made the game better or worse?

objectively worse

I thought they could work for exploration though

weapons and ammo and power ups do that far better

Would have replaced health bonuses at most. Level design would certainly have slightly more secret areas and more of them around. A points system would certainly have damaged the level design's philosophy of being fast though.

You're kinda right

not even fast, just tight. Dooms level design is very tight, it's always flowing in a solid direction, criticism of the game being a key maze doesn't work here because almost all of the time, the game organically presents to you where to go, it's not really easy to get lost, areas are very distinct, and there's even entire levels built on fucking with you for thinking they're similar to previous ones.

bonus items/points would just obscure this. Entire areas dedicated to points is well, pointless. The game has a solid scoring system already.

Worse. They'd be totally superfluous and distract from the rest of the game.

Pretty much, if someone wants to do a max score kind of thing they would go for 100% kills and 100% secrets

...

How old is he? He might be a wizard.

He looked 41 to me but if he did travel through dimensions like some people suggest, he might have stopped his aging or something.

You know if he said that being a virgin protects his soul or something as a joke this news would've been much better. Funny that it contradicts Bethesda where HDoom is canonized retroactively.

He's a grunt in the military, so he's late 20's at the oldest, I'd say.

Someone confirm this. This is too hilarious by virtue just how out of place that question even is.

Sound is just organized wavelengths, friend.

Wait, Bethesda acknowledges the existence of HDoom? Top fucking kekk.

I think you mean waves, a wavelength is an aspect of a wave. It's kinda like saying a road is just organized miles, which is stupid. Also, most sounds aren't organized, as that would imply that an intelligent being specifically arranged them to sound a certain way.

Checkmate, christians :^)

ALL DOOM WADS ARE CANON

Oh lawd

Does that mean impse.wad is where doomguy lost his virginity?

I don't think the master storytellers at Beth thought it all the way through.

...

Nevermind, we need a new thread.

...

Go back to BethDoom or jerking each other off to SWANS, fucking hipsters.
