I remember being a kid and whenever I bought a game, there would be links for gaming news sites and such. Even then, and this is before I could fully read, I knew that the concept was absurd. It was obvious that the sites only existing as a marketing ploy and that companies payed for their games to be shown favorably. Why would anyone take what's on such publications seriously? It makes no sense. Why is there so much drama over it? How is anyone surprised about the "ethics"? Do people really rely on these publications for their news about video games? Does anyone really expect the types of people that do these publications to be bright and honest? Does anyone expect "gaming journalists" to be skilled in and informed about the games they review? It's so bizarre. I don't get it at all. How is anyone surprised?

Gaming journalist back then were well known for growing big heads and ranting for entire pages about some moral crusade or how they knew better than the people playing/paying for the games. They were countless cases of obvious shilling for companies that paid them off or worked back room deals.

I have stacks of magazines from the 90s-early 2000s. I should really scan the better parts of them because their is lots of salt. Most of mine are Gamepros which started out pretty decent but just got awful as the years wore on.
