How do cases play out? I know there's videos but they're too long and full of OOC/wasted time.

Proseuction Opening Statement > Detective showing their findings > First witness is called in > Recess > Second Witness called in if necessary > Memeing with Third Witness.

Just warning you all that there will be an update tomorrow, it will add new content such as characters, music and so on. The link will be available in the downloads document, you need to extract it and overwrite your game's files with the update files by merging the two, there's no way to do it wrong.

People usually aim to have around 4 hour long cases. You don't actually need to stay for the whole four hours unless you are defense/prosecution/judge, the detective and witnesses usually only play for one hour or two at most. There is always the chance they will call you back though.

You pick anybody to play as defense, prosecutor, judge, witness and detective and you basically just work off a frame consisting of evidence, a defendant, a victim and two witnesses that was built merely minutes prior to the case starting.

So the witnesses just make up bullshit? How are the defence supposed to find contradictions? And what does the judge do? Just meme at people until the end?

Witnesses are usually expected to have some contradictions in their statements, even if it does indict them or not, to keep things going fluidly. Judge is there to be pretend to be dumb and keep people in line. It's a lot of acting, theatrics, and improvisation

The witnesses can, and are encouraged to prewrite their testimonies. If they don't, then usually they try to work in something that could open up a lead or new line of reasoning, although they are not required to make it easy.

Usually a case having more than 2 witnesses is a big deal.

The judge guides the trial, keeps order, and has to be convinced in order to give a verdict.

They actually play a pretty important role.

the judge makes the obvious questions for clarification and decides whether objections are valid, contradictions are a mixture of planned lies and improvisation.

Sure I'm currently shitting my pants as the Detective for doing it live but it's definitely a lot more fun when you're put on the spot.

Yes, all witnesses are played by other people. Detectives and Leads can asspull new evidence but most of it is presented before the case starts.

So it is an amalgam of chaos and other players pulling arguments out of their asses, detectives putting anything that might be related to a case and witnesses who could just make up anything.

In a meme case, yes. Most cases are good and follow a train of logic however and asspulls are rarely pulled only when the witnesses fuck up completely and screw over one of the benches. Honestly if this current game I'm in was streamed, I'd show it as a good example of a case until Grossberg came in.

I like this idea; downloading now. Any ideal roles for a newfag? I've played AA games and am an actual attorney if that helps.

I suggest going for the support roles of either bench, so that way while you can pitch in at times you're able to watch how the game is being played, while letting the lead and co do their thing.

Support roles are mostly useless but they're there (mainly for overflow purposes) if you want in.
Try going for a Co role.

For what it's worth, you don't have to RP characters as you know them.
You can change them completely to whatever works for you.

newfags can take any role except judge or steno.
in fact, here's a guide for each role.
defense:play pretty much as you'd play the games, find contradictions in witnesses' and detective's testimonies, try to formulate a theory that explains these contradictions while exonerating your client, etc.
support defense and co defense are the same thing but with less accountability, and you're supposed to support your defense by making additional questions and trying to get important information out of testimonies.
detective: state the facts of the case, most of the time you simply state and present the evidence, but depending on how much of the case has been planned beforehand, you might need to improvise. Defense and prosecution get to make "requests" like "check the fingerprints on the dildo" and you have to give additional testimonies after the recess according to the results.
prosecution: basically state "but how does this relate to the case at hand?" over and over as well as providing alternate explanations for contradictions that at least sound more probable than the defense's, and if the client is obviously innocent and the defense is incompetent go full "truthfag" and "help" him by stating contradictions he misses.
co and support prosecution: see co and support defense.
witnesses: plan a testimony beforehand or improvise, if planned, try to plant a few contradictions, a reason for their presence (maybe you're intentionally lying because you're guilty, maybe you have been misled, maybe you have something entirely different to hide, etc) and a "what actually happened" testimony for when the contradictions are discovered.
steno: write down the testimonies in the doc as well as the defense and prosecution's statements during the cross examination.
judge: make the obvious questions when something needs clarification, overrule pointless objections, and generally keep order, finally, he gives the final veredict.
The whole thing goes like this
Rollcall.
Opening statements, first prosecution, then defense.
Detective is called to the stand, makes testimony.
Cross examination.
First Witness.
Cross examination.
requests.
recess.
Second Witness.
cross examination.
A third Witness may sometimes be used.
Veredict.

Decent but honestly, as far as Witness and Detective is concerned, I say go full LIVE. It ends up more fun and more interesting than pushing out something pre-written that may not apply properly anymore due to the benches fucking over your ideas.

I'd say it depends, detective better read the doc lest they bog down the case considerably and witness better be good at making up something when they inevitably contradict something anciently rather than on purpose.

Well of course, Detective should ALWAYS read the case and both Detective and Witness should ALWAYS read the damn doc for everything that transpired so far. That's a given no matter if you improv or have something pre-writen. The thing with writing before hand is that it leaves you blindsighted, since the benches are retarded and will go for the contradiction you didn't even know existed or expected, thus fucking you over. Doing it live is better since it prepares you for everything.

Such a thing should not be done. Anything that would cause permanent injury should be saved for SPECIAL circumstances. Even then, being able to harm should only be reserved for those special circumstances or when FC is Judge/Bailiff/Prosecute-using-it-on-defense.Just fits it better that way.

I'd probably just go full "yeah i lied" if I tried that, but I will likely be drinking alone tomorrow so I might consider it. Been lurking for a few days now though, might give a minor role a shot at some point soon enough but seeing how good most leads I've seen are I don't think I'll ever be doing anything too important. Everything did collapse after you had left, but not in a bad way.
