OG Xbox thread

Alright nerds, I finally convinced my cousin to give me his old original Xbox that he never uses. Now what do I do? I heard there was some kinda capacitor I should remove?

I just want to tell you which games to play

...

Just post the image already.

What are some good fighting games for the OG Xbox?

Kakuto Chojin

What's the deal with this controller port? How do I plug it in?

FAGGGGGGGGGOT

I can't tell if you're kidding or not, but you're missing the tip of the controller.

Don't listen to this cocksucker, the problem is your cousin gave you a gamecube controller, you're going to have to buy a new one on ebay.

mod that shit, get some torx 20, 15, and 10 screw drivers/bits and open it up. get a copy of the original splinter cell and mod it and get the kickass library.

install the shenmue 2 undub too

I'm going to have to buy another copy of this, aren't I.

get it from theisozone

It's not on there, except for some modded versions that I don't want. Plus, it'd take ages for me to download.

holy shit. So I do have the game to CFW my Xbox. I'll do some looking around as to what else I'll need to do here.

You're fucking kidding me. Why would MS do that? Where can I find another one?

so if you tug the controller the console doesn't move/fall.

want me to upload it to mega?

Wow, that's really organized.

That'd be great, actually. I don't know what the problem is on my end.

I'll post it here once its done, there is a "fix" on theisozone, try using that and tell me if it works.

theisozone.com/downloads/xbox/xbox-isos/gta-san-andreas-fix/

thanks? I work on a lot of different systems, it'd be hell if I wasn't clean.

Already tried that. I think that's just for PAL xboxes. The problem reported there is not what I have.

alright, the file will be done uploading in 25 minutes give or take.

You on RW?

I don't think so, what is that?

I appreciate it. Question: Have you tried running Burnout 3? Had an iso for it a while ago, but when I'd run the game, it did this weird thing where I couldn't accelerate normally, and when I'd hold the throttle, the car would just spin out and crash. Never had seen it before, so I just ended up deleting the game.

no, I'll try it and get back to you.

Torrent site.

Will From ever indulge us?

No shit it looks better than on PS2, but pc version is obviously even better.

Oh, no. I built up the collection myself from a mix of rips I did on my own to a few downloads.

the xbox version has exclusive content not on other platforms.

Burnout 3 worked perfectly fine.

GTA San Andreas:
mega.nz/#!mYBX3YAD!_Xg5s2VfX4C9dju25yDm_p22vDn3T9a_9IDxFP3Ucx8
.xiso format, either extract with c-xbox tool and ftp, or ftp with c-xbox tool or qwix.

I see. I'll look into that later.

Thanks again.

No actually the PC version has less content and missing graphical effects, its also a terrible shit job of a port which is barely held together. PC ports were mostly pretty bad back then.

they're still pretty bad, but you can't mention that ;)

Isn't the DOW at the highest in years?

Like what.

...

free DLC

Free exclusive* DLC

Do you happen to have an exact size + filecount for that?

Okay, so using Qwix to FTP straight from the ISO seems to have solved my problem. I guess CXbox Tool's extraction process went wrong with some of the files. So my San Andreas problem is solved.

If you have an NTSC copy, would you be willing to upload Burnout 3 at a later time? I'm having no luck finding a link.

Is that an invite-only site?

already uploaded it a while ago hitler

Fantastic. You are just making my day.

Got an original Xbox gathering dust in my garage, as I never really bought games for it, and just rented out new releases then clocked them in a weekend.

So the things I need are:
-Splinter Cell
-UBS/Xbox cable
-Torx screwdrivers x3
-An IDE hard drive

Is that 100% everything, because I'd have to order it in, and can't be arsed making a second order if there's something missing.

How large a harddrive should I get? Stores don't sell them often, and I can't find many above 60gb.
Might have to take apart my old Macs and use their harddrives. I have like 20 of them gathering dust right next to my Xbox.

Search online, you'll find plenty. As for the screwdrivers, you don't need to order shit. Go to the local hardware store and buy a cheap set of screwdrivers.

However big you want. I think 120GB is a safe size. 500GB is probably overkill, unless you're trying to just archive everything. Anything beyond that, well, that's just a fucking lot.

How long ago did you download DLC? Seems like isozone got cleaned out or something.

Xbox's only take IDE drives, make sure they're compatible. Run the model no. across here and make sure it's a locking drive:
xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list
Check ebay, and those old macs? If they have Hitachi drives? Excellent, those are probably some of the best to use (although they can get interference from the PSU.

nigga cmon

I just realised my controllers are damaged. That would of been the reason I left it in my garage.

ebay.com.au/itm/Original-Microsoft-Xbox-Console-Softmodded-2-Controllers-Games-and-Cables-/152359608122?hash=item2379571f3a:g:XnkAAOSwOtdYVO33

Found this for $120AU, which is about the cost of buying 4 controllers, a harddrive and the needed equipment.

I might just be a bitch and do this, rather than actually do it myself.

not bad, doing it yourself might only save you maybe $30 or 40 if you were buying the stock console too.

Also, make sure you get component cables for it, and a controller S. I love the duke, but it's not for everyone.

also I'm just fucking with you the full DLC list is here digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/xbox-original-content/downloadable-content/675-xbox-offline-xbox-live-downloadable-content-dlc-installers-downloads.html get it

Sheeeeit. Nice.

I'd rather do it myself, but it's up to you. I don't know how prices are in Ausland, so I'm assuming that's pretty good.

UNLESS THAT SHIT IS 40 FEET TALL YOU AINT REMOVING SHIT NIGGER

Do you know which effects are missing? The thermal scope isn't working for me but otherwise the pc port plays fine. It even has controller support and 1080p

Oh shit, is that the new UG? I'd love an invite.

Spies vs. mercs totally fucked mate. Have to use 3rd party programs to get the flashlights and certain visions working.

also
user go get phantom crash you fucking faggot, and have some fun.

here's the real sin. No one mentioned this.

What's UG specialise in, and are there applications even open?

Except americans in general don't really like japs.

It is an invite-only site.

Postimage screenshot tool is giving me shit right now so this one is that (Not Responding) shade of pale.

And I'd love to give you one even if you are weeaboo garbage, but I'm only a User level right now. If you find the IRC you can ask like I did, it shouldn't be too hard to get invited considering you already know about UG.

Why even pirate shit like burnout or splinter cell anyways? They're the cheapest of a console that's been almost completely forsaken by scalpers and entirely ignored by hipsters

Now that I realize, I have every 6th Gen console at my disposal. I know you can use that little network adapter to add an IDE to a PS2 which I still need to get around to buying…, but is there anything like that for Gamecube? The only thing I know of is being able to play games off an SD card.

SNK vs Capcom 2
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Kung fu chaos

Can I use any 3rd party component cables, or should I look for official Microsoft cables? How hard is it to still find official component cables?

They don't exist? Apparently microsoft never made component cables.

Any particular set to look out for?

Yeah, you can make an adapter to use HDDs as SD cards, I think.

would a PSP GO work just as well as a regular PSP for modding this? the cord I need is already coming in the mail and I only know for sure that regular PSPs work.

Well, says that PSPs always work, I'd give it a resounding 'probably'.

I think you'd be fine with any that are left.
If you got a pleb TV with other older electronics like I do, you'll probably want to get a component-to-HDMI converter so you can keep using your composite (RCA) stuff. Manufacturers are starting to Jew out on their component support by doubling the green port on component as the yellow port for composite.

Your options for component are either you pay ~40 bucks for something called monster, for ~5 for generic brand Chinese crap that doesn't really work, at least for some games. I heard that microsoft released some weird alternative to component cables instead of releasing their own, but i can't for the life of me remember the name.

I'm not, I don't actually hate myself or my heritage.

so when youre doing some extreme gaming, the controller disconnects instead of pulling your console to the ground

If you have a sound system you'll need a component cable with digital out. MS decided to put the optical out in with the AV inputs instead of on the console

hard to say since the file system won't read external storage bigger than 4GB, PSP Go's are 16 minimum, right? Perhaps if you have a small M2 card inserted it will read that. The card will need to be formatted.

If that doesn't work, this is what I used: amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Blade-drive-SDCZ50-004G/dp/B002U213Y8
I didn't get it from Amazon, but it's the same model that worked for me.

Also I should note that I used the 4GB version. Can't guarantee it with the other sizes

Fug I wonder if that's what FUBAR'd my Xbox back in the day. Gave me great service for years and then one day it just up and caught on fire while watching a DVD with the family. Blue smoke everywhere. I still miss that thing, last "home console" I really liked, mainly because it had nice things like Morrowind and Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia on it.

How can I find this site, I can't find it with google

Neat, that's the one I already have access to thankfully not the more complete one that supposedly exists somewhere.

You can already find the URL and the IRC from what's been posted in the thread RW, not really sure it's worth your trouble since it's invite only and they're a "don't post the name publicly"-tier sekrit club

Is it possible to use these with 360?

amazon.de/gp/product/B000Q82PIQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A18W787D4YCCOC

will this Harddrive work with my Xbox? My old one went up in smoke, and i bought it pre-modded, and i forgot which Loader he used, which one should i use now? also, what's the best place to download ISO's? Will emuparadise, the place i usually download at, do?

its sata, so unless you have a sata to ide board, nope

Or just use a gc compatible wii, homebrew and nintendont for gc games.

Can't use a Game Boy Player on a Wii though.

what would be the right choice of harddrive? Right choice of loader?

Emulation has you covered there. The Wii is perfect after a softmod and can play the entire Nintendo library once it's set up plus a bunch of other things. You're mainly just missing the 3DS/WiiU games. I really need to re-do the softmod on my old one, I have a launch model that allows for the boot1 exploit with a 1TB HDD. I've only managed to fill 500GB of that, one day soon I'm going to fill the rest up with the Gamecube library and whatever good Wii games I missed since 2010 or so.

I ended up mainly using mine for Mega Man 9 and TvC. Poured a lot of time into something I rarely use but my company enjoys playing it still.

I got an xecuter3 chipped xbox one day

whoever installed the x3 fucked the video output, it doesn't recognize component cables but works perfectly over composite

No CoinOPS in 720 for me D:

nigger are you fucking kidding me. even in the day that was a boring shooter, and it definitely hasn't aged well

my basketball-american brother

...

get one of these

amazon.com/HDE-Computer-Drive-Interface-Adapter/dp/B008X8NK0I

not necessarily this one specifically, though

just IDE -> SATA adapter, you know

and as for "right choice of harddrive" well, here's a not-complete list of drives

xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list

I've heard repeatedly, without and real evidence offered, that "almost all" sata drives are lockable

as for what "loader" to use, there's some problems with determining that, did your old DRIVE, or the entire system go "up in smoke"?

if it was just the drive, that'll make things harder and you're better off getting a "new" xbox to start from

if it was the system, and you HAVE a new one, well I can tell you straight off that there's a whole new set of problems to surmount

you could run the splinter cell softmod exploit, which requires an xbox memory card to have the linux installer, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

not ghost recon or whatever, but the original

not really expensive, thrift stores usually are a good place to get them

so once you run the installer, you will want to backup your original drive immediately

no debate, back it up over FTP

after that, there's a few options for installing
1 - install a dashboard on your original hdd
this is less recommended
2 - using the files you backed up, use xbox hard drive maker (XDHM) to create a bootable ISO to clone the HDD so you can just install the larger HDD straight up
however this is fraught with its own dangers as well, but far more recommended than using the original hdd
3 - use CHIMP to clone the original HDD onto the new HDD while they're both plugged into the xbox
I personally have never done this, so I can't testify as to its value, or the dangers.

but let's move on and say you've done this and you have the bigger HDD in your xbox, you will be best off by burning a copy of the Auto Installer Deluxe DVD, and launching it from either the temporary softmod, or a modded dashboard

use it to install XBMC as your main dashboard, because frankly there isn't a better dashboard to use

also PROTIP

IF YOU USE COMPONENT CABLES, MAKE SURE YOU ENABLE THE CORRECT VIDEO OUTPUT FOR THEM BEFORE YOU DO ANY MODDING

...

No, the xbox itself didn't emit smoke of any kind, just the harddrive when i tried to connect it to the PC to load new games on it, sorry for the late reply, and thanks for the help.

you shut your whore mouth

Is it bad to just set the video settings after modding? They seem to work just fine (I use unleashed x)

your post is insightful

and i know reddit formatting is a meme

but when you format your post like this

your post looks like shit

I've never had any luck setting component cables without the msdash is all

learn to FTP

when they exist :^)

You can go back to the msdash at any time and change settings(at least on my install)

...

It's not really a cable, it's an adapter where you can plug in your own component and audio cables. It's called the Xbox High Definition AV Pack.

Kill yourself newfag. People have been posting in that format for years before you niggers started shitting your pants over it trying to fit in.

Not sure off the top of my head, look up a YouTube video it'll show you exactly which one

To be honest you just have to take it in stride

Please work on your post formatting.

gonna check back for this thread to let everyone know that a PSP GO does not work. This may have been because I had a 16GB M2 card in the memory card slot. At least I'm only one step away from the XBOX original library now.

please tell me your Go is modded

of course it is, namefaggot. PSP modding is as easy as the Wii at this point. I didn't have it activated while using it for XBOX softmodding, if that's what you're asking. I didn't think It'd make much of a difference.

to be fair, it's easier than the wii, you don't have to set up any iso loaders, etc
