"Please adjust the brightness so that the gray bar is barely visible."

Am I the only one?

...

I usually just do as it says and then adjust accordingly once I get into the game. There appears to be a lot of variability with that test between games.

No, you're not the only tasteless faggot here.

I bet you also mute games and play shitty in the background, and I bet you haven't even properly calibrated your monitor.

...

Nice literacy, retard.

yea youre the only one.

A lot of games use this method because they think it's "bam, instant atmosphere" but never profit from it they don't actually have any mechanic making shadows relevant. Take DOOD. It's dark as fuck by default but all that does it making it pointlessly hard to navigate since all enemies are clearly visible.
Is the game at least attempting to hide enemies ? Adjust for shadows. Otherwise, adjust for visibility.

When it's casual shit turn it up to 11; when game is horror or some kind of stealthy shadowy turn it all the way down to realistic shadow color

Fucking hell, to play Alan Wake years ago not only did I play it on lowest gamma with headphones on, with switched off light but had to physically alter my monitor settings to max out the experience. I consider myself the conneseour of shadows in games.

...

A lot of games I play are barely fucking visible when they're at the intended brightness settings, even the outdoors look dim.
Game devs must constantly play in the dark or some shit.

Well yeah, I make an exception for horror and stealth games because the darkness is part of the gameplay.

But an action game or something? No, I don't need shadows and shit. Just let me see what the fuck I'm trying to shoot.

...

...

nigga why do you give so much of a shit that he mocked your typo like just let it go nigga

I'm collecting (You)s in a shit-tier greentext thread while waiting for SGM to finish downloading from the repo because mega's DL cap is disgusting. I appreciate the (You) though

Don't feed the troll, bro.

...

nice grammar faggot

Why do they hurt me in this way?

that's not a woman

...

The best choice here is to turn up the brightness slightly higher than they want you to have it at, but don't go full sunshine.

If ALL games look way too dark for you, it's probably an issue with your monitor, which is where you should be doing all your visual calibrations anyway. It also sounds like a serious issue since you feel the need to turn the brightness/gamma all the way up, maybe somebody played a prank on you by messing with your monitor settings.

Or you could just have a really shitty monitor or something.

feels good man

Turning it all the way up looks like shit though

Game developers already make the brightness high on default because otherwise retards would complain it's too dark. This is actually the case for every game ever made, including those without brightness settings. This is why "night time" in most video games looks completely unrealistic. A realistic night would be nearly pitch black except for moonlight and artificial light. Game devs don't do this by default though because they know too many people will complain. The brightness slider in any game is only there for people who fucked with their TVs default brightness and need to compensate. Otherwise you should just have it on the default setting or darker if you want realistic dark environments

You're a city boy, I'm guessing?

No I watch TV shows and listen to Red Bar Radio.

Two up one Down method always works for me

Checked and hecked. This ningen gets it.

Hello Dishonoured or any modern stealth game.

It's the Mount Moon grab.

Depends entirely on time of day and time of year.

If it's winter I can keep it in the spot the devs wanted it to be. If it's summer there's no way I can play dark games without putting the contrast and brightness up, even though I have dimming curtains. It's that bright.

The problem with me is I can always make out the figure thats supposed to be invisible but I know it's now way darker than it's supposed to be.

...

its tetsuo the iron man my friend :)

wOOOAHH thanks thats it!! thats the movie!! thanks FRIEND : ))

The first two Thief games let you bind gamma up and gamma down to keys; best shit ever and more games need to do it.

oh man is this the new pokecumdump?

No, i turn it up a bit too, not all the way but 2 - 3 ticks are OK in most games, plus i find annoying lots of texture details are missing in the darkness

This is a common feature to most monitors dumbo as well as the Dinamic contrast , they both murder colors

...

This is the equivalent of saying

That's a complete false equivalence, a game being hard isn't the same as not being able to see the fucking game.

IT'S A FEATURE!

plebs

Is there ever a reason not to crank the brightness up in multiplayer games?

...

You should be ashamed of yourself.

KILL ME

Holy shit the double fakeout. Playing with my cheetus expectations and then hitting me with it when I no longer expect it. Pure brilliance.

AND THEN. THE SNEEZING.

Whenever the game is already bright enough, and pushing it above reasonable limits washes out the colors.

It's like you enjoy giving (((Samsung))) shekels.

How can you enjoy looking at that bulbous, curving screen? How?

Do you have a banana dick? Is the screen relatable for you?

This is the ultimate example of sniffing your own farts because you love the smell of your own farts on an anonymous image board I have ever seen. Good job, sir.

Welcome to Holla Forums

I like melee, but I don't like the sound crt makes. You need a lot of noise or else you end up in a room going
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

this

that shit is fucking cancerous

Dipper, get your shit together and fuck her already!

...

It's like you don't even have a Dreamcast.

Exanima has pretty good darkness mechanics 2bh

I always just leave it at the default.
I think "barely visible" is too subjective of a term.
I did this with Killing Floor.
Turned down the brightness till the image was "barely visible", and the game was way too dark to see.

But recently, DiRT Rally did it RIGHT.
This is the first time I've ever sen this. Instead of telling you to make a couple shades "barely visible", they just put a few screenshots of scenery on screen and tell you "adjust it so it looks good."

Hadn't seen these gifs in a while.

Reminder that the faggot who made that .gif is a hypocritical faggot who said that lolicon is child porn to get SJW cred.

yes

It depends on the moon, your proximity to a populated/urban area, and the time of year. Winter nights with a waning moon in New Hampshire are pretty fucking dark (if there's no snow), but a summer night with the same moon in Massachusetts is fine if you stay out of the forest. Most games, however, just turn the brightness on the world's light source and give it a blue tint, which isn't what night's like at all.

Melee locals must cause mental breakdowns for you.

It's like you don't know what a studio monitor is, or why they're the best way to consume any media.

more like the pokemon dominatrix.

How do you fuck up so bad

...

Good, lolicon is shit anyways. Aras is where is at

What a massive fucking faggot. How many SJWs could possibly have liked his shit to stick around after drinking the koolaid?

You need to be mindful of people with long ears. Imagine how your catgirl feels when her ears are being raped by EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

You have to be 18 to post here.

Oh, and that's only the throwback transformer, if you're using a 31khz crt you don't have that problem.

then post the good not shit crts you faggots

you're all talk so far

Quick, post it on Holla Forums.

Done.

well im certainly not going to turn it down to 'barely visible'. usually leaving it alone is fine.

I see you're trying out the baboon impression

No, because I don't like burning my eyes.
