How has this game aged and is it still worth playing?

It aged well. And its fun to play once.

Games like that don't age since they're not updated, it should still be the same as when it was released.

If you just want to jerk off to furry shit, go to porn site or something.

What the absolute fuck are you talking about. That's not what people mean when they say "has this game aged well?".

What else would "aged" mean? Either the game has changed over time with age or it hasn't, in this case it hasn't.

It's a hard concept to explain but they don't mean "has the game physically changed" they mean "has this game become so obviously old and busted that playing it wouldn't be fun anymore/it doesn't seem good anymore". Think about early PS1 3D games. They seemed fucking amazing at the time but PS1 3D aged horribly where looking at it now is almost painful.

Good to hear, seeing Doc Brown mess around with a bunch of cartoons and turn weird cat chicks on sounded like a good time.

I mean, you've come to your own conclusion of the term that isn't necessarily wrong and made me chuckle.

The game aged OK. Everything except Christopher Loyd still looks fine. It still sounds fine and plays fine. If you like adventures, check it out.

Games age by looking and playing shittier than they have before, genius. See this c64 game? That aged badly. Everything looks foot doodled, its so similar to moon patrol and therefor only interesting to vidya historians and 40 year old motherfuckers who collect. Here is a game that aged much better:
youtube.com/watch?v=OEam-zQgWcU

Everything looks adequate and the ideas for it are still fresh.

Another thing that aged badly is Tomb Raider. It was the fucking shit back then, but nobody would bother wrestling with the controls nowadays just to look at the Cube Girl's ass all the time. There are a lot of games out there to which time wasn't very nice. A Poster child for this are in my opinion all the managerial games by Star Bytes. Every single one of them, even Dime City that enjoys a legendary status in Dachshundland, looks like shit, has esoteric controls and more or less the same stuff other have.

I didn't mean physically I meant digitally, only newer games seem to have the ability to age with content updates but even then you can just install an original version, since they're digital they can't really get old but they can change over time if people add to them.

I mean that's your opinion and all but I don't think so. I've played some PS1 games I've never played before this year and they were fine to me, I'm sure they were the same as when they came out.

How is that possible, shouldn't it be the same as it ever was?

I mean aren't all controls esoteric without the context given from the instructions? What was contemporary then isn't now and what is now won't be in the future, none of it makes sense without context/instructions. In that regard I'd say people and time ages not the game, that seems to stay the same while people change their expectations.

Technically it is, but it isn't that cool to people anymore. A good example are early PSX games that are painful to look at nowadays. Not every game created is timeless. Here is another Example. Watch it for a while. What would you rather play? Doom or Ken's Labyrinth?

How do you build a prostitution ring in Dime City?

Modern games would use less tedious idioms and get rid of the mystery meat navigation.

Not exactly. Technology does age. Imagine old Telephone with dialing wheels. The phone with the dialing wheel is still the same, but it is not the way to do it nowadays, because we have more elegant solutions nowadays. Video games are even worse in that regard, because there are sound and graphics. What was releastic in 1995 may be pixealated crap now.

Why did you post a specific image of that cat lady aside? Did you really expect me to be attracted to your thread because of her?

Because I figured a cat was fine too.

Well, your memes were right this time. THIS TIME.

More pictures please

Despite all that I don't think it's fair to say a game has aged, you can't fault the developers for not knowing what people would be into years after release and you can't fault them for not having such future technology either. None of these things mentioned seem like they're caused by a game itself, it's just people changing their opinions of what is acceptable right now which seems arbitrary. What's worse is it's all subjective, some people can still enjoy older games despite them not following current trends, it seems the same as when people are open to new differences in newly released games as well, ones that aren't old but just as different. I guess I should say that it's not fair to judge a game just because it's different, in regards to input, visuals, etc. Games should be evaluated on their own merit and not written of as "painful" just for being wildly different, be it new or old trends. Like you showed there are some good old games that are still different, I'd propose that if a game seems bad today then it was probably always bad to begin with.

I find it hard to believe someone would regard something highly one day then say it's terrible years later. Maybe that displays personal growth in an individual but that's still external to the game, their judgement has improved where it wasn't as good before, you could blame that on age in humans but not the game they're judging.

It seems like a weird target for the phrase.

Are you retarded? It basically means if the game controls, UI, etc, are still good. The original Alone in the Night aged like shit because the controls back then used to be really different than the controls we are used to now, and you can argue that Doom original control scheme also aged like shit.

...

Why does it being different make it shit, what difference makes the controls shitty? Does the ability to rebind the keys make a difference when judging this?

We'll just get this out of the way and post the only 4 pictures that have any resemblance of quality.

Seems like the game is a bit of a cult classic, but I don't really know. Never heard anything about it up until I saw a webm for it yesterday

...

Back then controls were really limited because dev didn't know what was exactly the best way to control a character. Alone int he dark have a lot to do with games like resident evil, but the way you manage your inventory plus the controls on the keyboard make the game harder to play. By no means the game is bad because of this, but it's a common problem considering how new games were back then, and in comparison to modern games UI and controls, it can be hard to adapt, to the point that it could be so tedious you might drop the game entirely. Don't take the "It's shit" so literal, autist.
Yes.

I have to add that even with rebind the mechanics binded to the buttons might be restrictive themselves, meaning that even with key binding they could be hard to adapt.

I think you can play it in scummvm

Wut

I'm just curious why people hold beliefs like that and say these things, it's why I'm asking. I legitimately can't see the problem which other people seem to have so the only thing I can do is ask them for insight or clarification.

I have to be.

That was actually a spoiler.

Well, now you know what it means. To put it simple, Super Mario Bros. aged well because of how simple it is, even a kid can play it alright. Tomb Rider wacky controls and movement didn't age well, though. Another example of games that didn't age well is Heavy Rain. When it came out it was sort of revolutionary, for it looks and "gameplay", but as time went on now it's just a shit looking cringy "game".
I understand what you mean, but as I said, these kind of things can be tedious to the point of dropping the game. Usually just platformers age well.

Hope you like hypnotism.

Well shoot, it was in the webm thread. Hopefully it didn't spoiler anything to big. It just looked like a gag to me.

She sort of looks jewy.

I'm not going to lie, I thought it looked bad before it even came out.

Yeah, but the difference is there wasn't anything that looked better. Hence why it aged like milk comparatively to anything released today.

I guess I just don't see things that way. For me things like this are either good or bad, once I play it I know which it is by the time I'm done and that tends to remain constant even if I come back to it later. A whole game around QTE's and story never appealed to me personally.

Does Holla Forums have a list of must play point and clicks?

No. Shall we attempt to make a chart?

Things have merit for the time they came out. If it was revolutionary back then, chances are it was so overdone right now that there could be better games with the same concept or no more games like that. It's not the fact that Heavy Rain was always a shit game, but it was praised back then because of what it was then, not what it is now.
If you're going to recommend an old game to someone, they should be aware that time can change the perception of what is good and what is bad. Back when Heavy Rain came out, it was perceived as good by critics and some users, now it would be perceived mostly bad because there are better games like it. Another example, Halo was the first game that did the regenerative "health" thing, except it was a shield. Then COD and countless other FPS did it more simple by just reducing it to health. Halo was innovative, but other games did it too, in this case Halo is still better because it wasn't bastardize. It's all really subjective, though.
tl;dr aged like milk is a warning. I love Alone in the Dark, but I understand that some anons might not like the tanky controls that are, of course, even worst than resident evil.

I don't remember one exactly about point and clicks, but there's this DOS chart with a few.
Out the top of my head you have Maniac Mansion, Fullthrottle, Grim Fandango and I have no Mouth, I must Scream. More recently, and on my personal recommendation, I'd say Deponia Trilogy and Edna & Harvey. You can play Deponia Doomsday, but the third Deponia game had a perfect ending that Doomsday ruined on purpose, so if you're satisfied with Goodbye Deponia, pretend Doomsday don't exist.

There some Spanish dev company that is still making point and click adventure games to this day.

I kinda want to fuck that cat.

Came into the thread expecting the cat
Thread lived up to my expectations
I am pleased

Translated, it means
The question has more to do with shifting societal expectations than it does with the game in question, which is why it's a stupid thing to ask.

...

I can't fap to this

Might be a good idea, I've never played a game from the genre, and there's a list for pretty much every other genre.

Thanks for the help
Why would they do that?

I did not expect this cat to be waifu material.

...

If its not made by Sierra or Lucasarts then its shit. So shit.

Forgot to mention Broken Sword.
Fans fault. Goodbye Deponia bittersweet ending was perfect for the trilogy, but a lot of fans hated it for some reasons. I will admit that 1 or 2 of those reasons were legit, but not enough to have a sequel. Fans bothered the dev enough for him to make a sequel, so he made one to spite fans, introducing time travel, fucking what you did in the previous games, and leaving Rufus and absolutely everyone else in a worst state than they were in at the end of Goodbye Deponia.
Deponia Doomsday is the very concept of needless sequel, but what I liked about it, at the very least, is that is was made to spite the fucking faggots that dared to ask for a sequel, but the gameplay is still as good and wacky as the rest.

>hypnotism
muh dick

...

Crazy how much fun writing in games used to be.

>You will never commence in vanilla love and start a family after

Unfortunately, this is pretty misleading. She's a minor character and only in about 30 seconds of animation. Pretty hot for a cat though.

JUST

The Deponia series had it's 4th game earlier this year

I wish they'd have gone with the sequel and have her show up scratching and helping you to the point you start feeling bad for her.

Then fuck her

...

it looked like there were a few screenshots of her that aren't in the hypnotism scene?

I felt bad for her when he sent her off. She wanted his dick before hand, after she wanted his affection.

...

pic related

I wonder what he thought of this scene?

like pottery

...

Do we have a these for download somewhere? If not we should really zip them up into a file.

Woodruff is pretty decent one as far as setting and humor goes. Though some puzzles can get horrifying as the game uses plenty of obscure mechanics outside clicking pixels on screen you need to remember and in retrospect is a pretty jewish game if seen through Holla Forums glasses

...

man, if it wouldn't take a good couple of weeks I'd almost debate making a lewd flash game for Ms Fortune.

I really need to stop watching these webms. Each one is great and spoiling the game for me a little more.

At some point I need to take a couple of weeks to marathon Sam & Max related things. I've heard they are all good.

it is

MY DICK IS NINTENDIUM

do it faggot

Any download links?

theisozone.com/downloads/pc/dos-games/toonstruck/
You want ScummVM over DosBOX.

Looking for a GOG torrent. None on TPB.

There's a mega GOG torrent that sometimes gets passed around the share threads. It may be in there.

Fluffy Fluffy Bun Bun is better.

Jizz on the pics yourself.

I can't jizz IN a pic

You could jizz on a print-out and then scan it back in.

Thanks for the heads up.

Wonder why the hell all of the share threads aren't archived on >>>/scurv/

Then you're not jizzing hard enough.

RIP winger

Lloyd's such a delightful actor.
I wonder how they got him into Foodfight and The Oogieloves. Guess he was desperate for cash after his house burned down.

>mfw the King is actually Fluffy Fluffy Bun Bun in disguise

can i run it on windows 7?

i knew i had seen her in more winger pics than those two…

Jesus fuck. I'm about an hour into it, and all these great voice actors all over the place.

Best thing Telltale ever did, and it put them on the map. The rest are good too.

Halo stole it from Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri, which also tracked your regenerative shield independently for 4 cardinal directions

And if we expand it to starship shooters, Star Crusader did it even before then and had you doing full-on systems management to determine how much power you wanted to devote to systems repair

It's unfortunate that all the other pics Doug did of her are herm ones.

...

;_;

Post more gypsy cat, I demand more gypsy cat

so can i run this on windows 7 or not? do i need a VM with windows 95 or something?

Well, that was a fun little thing.

Got a little fucky with some of the puzzles and item hunting. Interacting with one thing for a puzzle and thinking you're done with it, but when in actuality you have to use a smaller part of it again, and just missing a small part of the interactability of something.
Doesn't really help because of the plot point and having items that serve only to fit in one place that don't advance the plot unless you get all of them, and others have multiple uses.

The phone sucks.
The squirrel sucks.
The fish sucks real bad.
The books suck because the clues don't reduce down to the one accepted answer.
The air conditioning controls suck a little.
A few more things suck, but getting into details would spoil them.

Still, as outlandish as some of the trains of thought get, they're usually riding the line between obvious and completely unimaginable, and that's great.

Good writing and performances all around, and lots of familiar voices if you're into animated shows. Quite a bit of lines when you try to use incorrect items for a problem, which sometimes end up as clues.

Unlike some point-and-clicks, I couldn't recommend this if it didn't have the voices. But it does, and it's fantastic.

Yeah. Look up ScummVM. Just slap the contents of both discs into the folder, overwriting or not whatever is there, and it should pick up on it when you try to select that folder.

are there bunny tittis in the game

No, but you do have a cute rabbit voiced by the actress who did the voice of Dot from the Animaniacs, among other things.

The kind of sickly-sweet overcute that you might see in a parody of sickly-sweet overcute shows.

the kind of sickly-sweet overcute thing that i'd like to fuck

I could almost understand that if it were the regular kind of cute, not this disturbingly overplayed kind of saccharine thing.
Then again, I wasn't expecting this thread to have people fucking bring up Doug Winger.

Regardless, any luck getting it running with ScummVM? It's likely the most convenient way to play most SCUMM-based and quite a number of non-SCUMM point and click adventure games.

i got distracted with another game, i'll try later tonight

That hits the spot
There is a serious lack of these two

okay its running, all you have to do is add the Toonstruck folder (aka the folder where you put all the files) to the list and press play

Also it's my headcanon that malelvolated Elmer is in a gimp suit and is being mechanically milked for his cum that's processed into glue

accidental sage

So is this a game or a furry fetish simulator?

both

Please be bait.

Any progress?

nah, probably not going to do anything.
1. that's a ton of work for an obscure character
2. I'm rusty at the moment in terms of art and animation
3. I've been more interested in 3d art lately

Still, it's a nice thought… and you never know, I get really bored.

what's your name, son?

...

don't got one, just post my stuff around here when I feel like it. Mostly I do things for Holla Forums though, and one time for /monster/.

3d models, though I'm not terribly good at that either. I also don't do it as consistently as I should. Still, I like that there's less to think about than traditional art.

Can you do a model of ms fortune?

About the best I could do would be a rough sculpt. I'm still pretty amateur as far as that whole thing goes, and rigging is still beyond me. There's a lot more capable anons in the /agdg/ threads, but I don't think you can request things there.

Your 3D is better than your 3D user. If you like that girl create a good animation of her, consider it long term practice it's what I'd think if I went for it.

Fug. I meant 2d is better than your 3d. Maye you should stick to 2d and get realy good at that huh?

How about I request you get good, is that a good request?

The problem is that I've been doing art and animation for 5 going on 6 years now and I still make quite a few mistakes, get burnt out easy, and there are other people who do what I want to do better, where as with CG I've been at it for maybe a total of 2 months on and off, can sculpt things better than some beginners, and feel there is a lot of stuff you can do with it that most people don't because it can be hard to learn. I've been going back and forth between the two trying to figure out just which one I want to dedicate my time to, and it is rough thinking about the time I'd need to put in to git gud with CG after spending so much time pursing traditional art.

That's a request that I someday hope to fulfill.

People think Minus8 is top tier despite the noticeable errors he constantly makes. People will like your shit too.

Eh lad seen your works all over last year or so. I'd say overall you're decent but despite experience not perfect. Overall I'm not sure what to say, I can barely draw hands and really do want to learn but I'm just too demotivated. Overall I think I understand a more perspective if you will than experience to the total, see you got ability you just lose control, lose aspect, lose desire, passion these are all driving forces and it you lose all these or hell any it kills you. 3D is easy for you and you desire a new test, a new thing you don't have, because you thirst for new knowledge like me. Except you aren't perfect in the 2D and 2D could be burnt out for different reasons like comics, or modern cartoons being shit. If you want to do 2D you need to have that as YOUR passion, not rely on any legitimate sources as like me with my writing I'm on my own, I'm a better writer than I am as drawer and I really want to learn to do that. In the end I'm saying pay attention to what got you started I think and go with that and if you want more do so but your 2D is just rough and needs far more refinement, you 3D will suffer until otherwise.
How do I force myself to draw, holy fuck, how I don't know, I need help, I can't even draw hands for fuck sakes, I wanna do it but I'm too lazy.

I empathize with you.

i fuckin' don't because I'm inept drunk who had no skills. If I had five years experience and the ability that guy had I'd just keep with it, and keep improving it's like you act like there's nothing else to fucking do. I don't get it, if you got ability why the fuck waste it because I fucking don't.

I empathize with his struggles as an artist, but not his wish to switch over to 3D media.
there's no need to be upset.

I'm always upset. You have no damn idea, I wish I had half ability any other person had, the only one I got it my useless ability to learn quick which does jackshit in a world where people fucking hate you,

just calm down and tackle problems one at a time.

I've done that my entire life and it never works.

you must be doing something wrong or an external force is holding you back, both can be over come with enough stubbornness.

Except I'm incredibly stubborn and it never helps me. How does this solve my overall problem?

I don't know how to help you, Most of those things have worked for me, and I'm not sure how I could apply them to you.

Maybe I jerk off less?
i mean if I go three weeks not doing it I get so lustful and it's insane, it actually hurts me physically. I could just "Save up" my energy. I don't fuckin' know, I doubt anyone knows what I am. I'm a twenty something pervert man.

Oh for the love of, No one is faulting the the devs for shit you ninny! Some games that were awesome or even groundbreaking before lose some enjoyability as the tech improves and more things are added to games.

Try playing RE4 and see if you can enjoy playing Alone in the Dark. It's ain't easy.

I can play RE4 and 90's Alone in the Dark and enjoy both immensely as separate things. Am I a solo case here?

floobynooby.com/pdfs/gesturedrawingforanimation.pdf

This is what got me really into it at the time. Learning to do gesture makes everything easier. Also, I think almost every artist has trouble with hands. I've done month long studies on them and still don't like to draw them.

And also you are definitely right. Those are the issues that keep me up at night and are keeping me up right now. I've lost my driving force. At some point I forgot why I was trying to git gud in the first place and how good I wanted to get. I've drawn since I was a toddler but only at 25 do I question why I draw. For the longest time it was praise, I think that still is what keeps me posting here because if you get praise here it is the rawest form of praise. You are just as likely to be told you are shit as you are to receive a complement so if somebody likes your art here that means they probably genuinely like it than just giving you a blind compliment. So am I drawing for others or myself? And what do I actually want to DO?

CG is sort of like a new start to rediscover myself, but you're right, I think I'm missing the major pieces. The passion and vision. I wonder if this isn't art related, but something deeper rooted.

I wouldn't be the first, you should check out Sunibee. Dude had incredible designs and grand comic ideas, but hated his art so much that he constantly deleted it to the point where his good concept art is crazy hard to find and now he just draws weird disproportionate furrys with gaping buttholes. Seems to be a common issue among us creative types.

holy fuck this thread went seriously off the fucking rails

I tend to look at each game on its own, Alone in the Dark isn't part of the Resident Evil series so I don't expect it to be like Resident Evil or any other game in any way. It seems like a lot of people expect games to all act the same way.

It's kind of nice, reminds me of old 4chan where the conversations could organically move to out there places without everyone getting banned… that or the thread would be derailed by Gary Oak.

pic related, also check these

So overall learn from me, and yourself constantly. Don't be Sunibee, don't be inept me. Don't stop fucking yourself over, instead better yourself to the point you're a god. Simple as that. I'll take this .pdf and read it best I can and try to learn it. If ua got a Steam or something at me, I'm always up for sort of helping I'm steamcommunity.com/id/criminal_gravy/ and I'm always up for learning things and talking.

I expect everything to act differently. I grew up with horror flicks and grew older so I sort of know what to expect and I do know what horrifies me and pleases me. The old 90's Alone in the Dark is still pretty horrifying despite my youth and I do love it.

Yeah it's old raw 4chan I was like 15 and browsing in 2008 I miss that time

What was I talking about. Eugh.

I appreciate the talk, also the reach out. Like my art though, I enjoy the anonymity of being here. I'm sure we'll talk again, though I think it won't be about my hang ups again. I seem to post the same bit over and over, but you're right, it's a lack of passion and a loss of vision. I think I might try and go camping alone for a couple days with a sketch book and see if I can't figure some things out about myself instead of relying on other anons to fix my problems. Suppose it's time to do some actual soul searching.

Add me as I'm an okay annoyance, reference and I'd like to learn to draw myself. In the end we could use each other a lot.

Soul searching I can agree with. Anyway a finale here you have to do this for yourself, I mean if you wanted a career fuck off, as far as I know that's a poor idea. Stop fishing for fucking compliments add me and just go for it. If you don't you wont get anywhere. Overall my favorite guys just did it and didn't dick around. All I really got honestly.. I'm bad at this.

I also empathize with you. I've been writing scripts and small programs for years but can't motivate myself to move on to larger projects. (I have ideas of stuff I want to do and how to go about learning what I need in order to make it happen, but I just can't seem to get started.) I was on anti-depressants for a while which helped, but I'm shit at taking medicine daily so I had to drop them.

Those things are also so expensive and can mess with your head.

Any other games where the humor is similar to this?

I remember that shark girl thread. I like your work.

Checked.

...

full pic?

I've been nothing but genuine, what's the issue?

Old games used to be a lot more liberal with their writing. The irony is that now that liberals run everything they've had to become a lot more conservative due to their new liberal morals. They have become the new 90's moms that they hated so much.
