Really depends on the company (or at times, producer) in question as to whether they feel fan-translations are a threat. Some find it to be a neat novelty that the efforts exist, that there's enough demand on the other side of the world that someone's taking time to unofficially bring them to their own language, other's are happy to let the translator essentially do the hyping for them and then try to slap them with a C&D (or DMCA if they're too late) due to smelling blood in the water. And sadly, I think most translation groups would likely acquiesce to Nintendo in the even of a mass "quit this shit" order, what with fan translation being a grey area in general.
