It makes fun of itself trying to convince people that it advertises toys to be bought, which is especially clear with the last episodes that currently aired (Mumm-Ra of Plundarr). On the other hand, for millennials like me, that show is actually quite funny, and I do get all the references and the campy jokes it tells. I don't know if the younger zoomers and eldest generation alpha kids like it as well. I kinda doubt it, the humor is very tailor-made for the likes of me.

Ironic that you seemingly use Ninja Turtles as an example, when that IP is a perfect example of what doing it right means. Yeah, not every iteration of Ninja Turtles is everybody's favorite, they all take liberties with style and tone, and different people have different preferences, but every version of Ninja Turtles is still in the same genre, they're still dedicated action shows, what made the earlier versions popular always carries over into the later ones. An episode of one followed by an episode of another doesn't feel like two different franchises, it actually feels like you're watching two different iterations of the same thing. Roar does not have that quality. They did something different, yeah, but nothing people liked about Thundercats to begin with (the emphasis on action, the dark tone) was carried over. The problem isn't that it's different, the problem is that it's literally not Thundercats and has no business sharing the name, it's comparing apples to oranges

The issue is that Roar itself just isn't a cartoon many would care for these days. The early 2010s are over, and it looks like people are now bored with simplistic goofy comedy cartoons with round, cutesy designs. Had this been an original IP, I doubt the response would've been much different. The more lore-heavy, anime-inspired action/adventure dramas like Kipo, SU Future, and The Owl House are the new trends. ThunderCats Roar is exactly what most cartoon fans have grown tired of, which would explain the height of the "bean mouth" controversy that erupted last year. Roar is not a bad reboot. It's just a show whose shtick is a couple years too late. Warner Bros. fucked up with their timing.

>>115118826The whole issue of oversaturation wasn't a factor of simple bad luck that was out of everyone's control though, it was man-made. The people greenlighting these projects had the choice to either delay it and release it at a more opportune time, swallow their pride and take their chance on a less-saturated genre, or they could have just nipped the whole issue in the bud before it became a problem and not allow the landscape to become oversaturated with identical content to begin with. Regardless of who's to blame, Roar's reception isn't a factor of being in the right place at the wrong time, every way you slice it it's a factor of mistakes having been made by somebody. You can debate who that somebody is, and where that blame should be directed, but somebody made a bad decision nonetheless, and they have nobody but themselves to blame.
