Believe me when I say that build up is well worth it. I also feel that the only times the plot doesn't progress is the school segments, and that's only in the early game. It's certainly not for everyone, but the patience is rewarded.

That's not to say Trails gameplay is bad by any means, but the first game of each territory takes its time to build up that territory and the people living in it.
