Do you know these people who play games for ages, but don't recommend them in their Steam reviews? I never understood them, but ED makes a convincing case against that. I have no Steam-game with more hours, yet I cannot recommend it without feeling like I lied.
The friend who introduced me to ED played the game since the closed beta for KS backers. Most of the time we spent playing ED, we bitched about it. Frontier's approach to game design seems to be to follow those two rules:

I think it was during some of my first play sessions with him that he wanted to buy the new ship, he saved for.
I think it took him more than half an hour just to find a station that had the ship he already had the money for. Afterward he found out that the station had the ship, but not the equipment. Bitching ensured as he had to go through the same bullshit again. It's just a waste of time.
The mission system consisted of recursive RNGs and engineering is even worse.

And don't even get me started on Power Play.
If I had one wish, one thing they have to change for me, it would be this: No more than one layer of RNG. Whatever the player does, it doesn't involve an RNG on more than one occasion.
