How soon until RPG maker becomes new the Unity engine among pretentious indie Devs? I noticed a increased of Gone Home wannabes & anti-capitalism games on steam being made with RPG maker.

This is what communists SJWs call social commentary

Is already happening, tons of games on Steam are made with that thing.

I don't think that was intended as social commentary.

Really makes you think.

Fucking hell OP, you're at least five years too late with this shit thread

When Enterbrain released RMXP and VX in English I thought that maybe finally we would see some quality games being made. I thought the scripting language combined with the financial incentive would motivate people to make better games. But nope, instead all we got was a bunch of SJWeebs making clones of Yume Nikki and 3deep5you artsy fartsy shit. Faggots on rpgmaker.net once even held a contest for "more diverse" resources, and I'm pretty sure at least one lesbo game has won a Misao.

Fuck it all to hell. I just wanted to play amateur RPGs.

another thing, I'm developing a game on RPG maker because I genuinely want to make one that's fun instead of pushing gay barbeque letters bullshit, and LISA at least proved that people were willing to try that shit out. This shit is eternally discouraging.

also

I think that dev was trying to be FUNNY. And rip off Off. failed at being funny.

...

Never played suits haven't you?

stop being triggered by everything

I played around with the older RPGmakers a bunch when I was younger. Shame to see it being used in this way. Might try to get into it again and make something interesting in it when I'm finished with my current modding projects.

I am usually not an advocate for graphics but RPG Maker stuff is visually unappealing to me.

I wish there was an engine for a first person dungeon crawler.

i will never not associate rpgmaker with dlsite hentai games

I never figured out why it had to be exactly barely visible Woulůd your monitor be unconfortably bright otherwise? Why does the gamr care when you could just turn the brightness back down?

Around 10 years ago, I made a software called DreaMaker, which was used to translate RPG Maker games. It was used by tens of thousands of projects, such as Off (made by another french dev) which directly inspired Undertale.
It also gave me the occasion to help directly projects like To the Moon (even though I thought it was just another RPG Maker game before it became so big).

My initial intention was to correct grammatical mistakes in games made by my friends. I even made 1,400 screenshots by hand to correct one of them. That's why I created this software. To help making better games.
But of course, translating games to make them available to more people became soon the only usage of the software.

Of course, it was just a tool. Everybody can use a tool.
I didn't touch RPG Maker in years, and have absolutely nothing to do with the RPG genre.
But now, some people are angrily asking me to pay more attention to what they consider to be Undertale-related stuff (gender theory, feminism, etc).

I feel conflicted, knowing that I have kind of a responsibility bringing Off (and therefore a source of inspiration of Undertale) to the english community. Surely that if I didn't create this software, Off would have been translated another way. Or Undertale would have been done no matter what.
Even if I have nothing against those games, I regret than some of their more rabid fans are making my work harder by complaining about unrelated issues.

This is your hobby but this is my life.

I am sure there will be tens of Undertale-like games tailored for tumblrinas, and a lot of so-called social commentary games to launch discussions on identity politics, therefore forcing those discussions in online communities they should be normally forbidden.
But Homestuck / Undertale can't stay the only ones who got their share of the tumblr, cake, so other challengers will rise.
I'm not saying they will be as successful.

Homer simpson mouth

Publishers will fuck us in the ass thanks to idiots like you.

THE

People playing and e-sports viewership just keeps going up, so no.

Is playing with randoms ok or a bad idea? i have no friends that play this game

...

They will never remake this game. You're better off making a new IP

all you need is psionics and its gg

First off, don't fucking sell your game. People will not buy a RPG Maker game, unless you like to make your game look like Tumblr shit.

Is that FFXV?

lol
Not to mention he was right on the money. PS3 was not worth getting for many years

I just dont see the market for this shit. MAYBE the controller, but steam link, OS, and especially the machines are for a market that doesn't exist.

the HTC Vive is cool though, but I, like most people, don't want to drop $1500 for a fledgling technology with a very uncertain future.

Plenty of retards bought Lisa.

Pretty much this

TRASH

There's that one for Kings Field-esque games

Im looking for more of a MM5 and 6 feel rather than kings field.

I have, and I can tell you the DINOSAUR DINOSAUR bit was because they thought they'd get into legal trouble if they imitated the Jurassic Park theme. It was too late to redo it, so the sound guy just improvised over it.

Oh user, I feel bad for you

Eh, I'd still do her. It is a her right?

I haven't actually played the game, but the creator of the thing calls it a "her"

Also, Hylics was actually pretty entertaining despite being really short

What part of "transvestite" went over your head

Why did your eyes not notice the surgical scar on the "breast"

why would you look at that disgusting thing's breasts?

The transvestite part. What a shame.

The same reason you look at a traffic signal.

...

I've seen a beat-em-up platformer and a Smash Bros clone done on RPG Maker, but when it comes to actual RPGs, it's all basic-level shit.

You did good if you're not bullshitting, and it wasn't Off that inspired Undertale, it was made by an Earthbound fanboy who spun his project around. Undertale is in NO WAY related to Off.

And for fuck's sake, even if it was who cares? If 3000 autists are inspired to make a one and done game, if you still helped the one that WOULD NOT be able to do what he needs to do without your software, and that's enough in the long run.

Also I want to make this hobby INTO my life, not making RPG maker games, but moving onto progressively more complicated engines with better tools.

...

...

nice buzzwords

There I just summed up the entire plot. Of the main game and the DLC "sequel."

See pics.

OK

the only reason you aren't outshining them is because you're a depressed shit who doesn't get to work because you like depression more then fucking video games.

Am I right, or do you seriously not want to prove me wrong?

...

Why do you need to be proud to be white? Why can't you just be proud of your accomplishments? LOL

Attack the creator, fine, but don't just now hate the game because Jorgensen ended up drinking the koolaid.

None of you motherfuckers were around during the LISA threads, there might have been one faggot that shitposted in the second post, but those threads were always filled with discussion about the game, not about how the game was bad because the creator suddenly became a piece of shit

Fuck me I really did miss all the good days of the internet.

If you are legit then don't feel bad for what happened afterwards. Just like with unity it was bound to happen that once an engine was made available that gave a lower barrier of entry people would use it for 90% shitty projects. Happens all the time. What you did however, was give people the means of experiencing the good ones in their native language and for that I thank you.

What do you mean by this?

I am curious about your experiences with mods.
1. What modding projects are you currently involved with?
2. What mods have you used that you really enjoyed?
3. Have you ever ideaguy/daydream about a mod you would like to see for a game you enjoy?

What, ruling the world for over 2000 years isn't enough for you?

Yeah LISA is pretty good. Either he went full retard after making the game or it was one of those rare moments where the creator slap the player in the face with his politics.

Glad I never fall for the Lisa was good meme

There are some awesome porn games made with this

This was well after the game's release and just after Trump won the election. He sperged hardcore because of it.

Thank god I pirated it.
I knew PaperBat was a shitter. Someone call him an honorary aryan.

You should've expected this level of sjw behavior. There were retards who hated this game, but didn't have an actual good reason beyond >muh rpgmaker. So now that dingaling showed himself to be a cuckolded dumbass everyone's doing the same old routine of "oh I always hated this game. glad i never liked it" because they don't like the creator.

Fuck off contrarian, there are plenty of reasons to hate the game. More importantly, given he attention whored his way into an interview here, maybe Mark should tell him to kindly stay gone with his cuck shit.

YOU HEAR THAT MARK? YOU HAVE THIS ONE CHANCE TO START REDEEMING YOURSELF, DO NOT FUCK THIS UP YOU HOOKNOSED SPERG!
also if you didn't see this coming when he associated with Slowbeef, you are retarded

New ID but I'm that user.

1. I'm currently working on an unofficial expansion pack for Xenonauts, adding more variety to the game and fixing various flaws I/others have had with the game.
2. All the various goldsrc/source engine total conversions, jsawyer balance mod for New Vegas (which I did personal edits to as well) and Darkest Hour for Red Orchestra 1.
3. I literally did it for the mod I'm working on now, only I'm making it a reality by making it myself. I'd also love to see a Starship Troopers mod for EDF4.1 but nip games aren't very modding friendly.

I would buy a game from hitler about gassing the jews IF is fun, user

Is that the one in pic related? It says i have to install the "optional" GOG client which is cancer, though i'd love to play it.

please respond

What do you mean? Sword of Moonlight? Do people make games on that?

fuck user sorry to hear this.

I don't know why you would ever not just use gamemaker.

Fuck off Dingaling

...

VNs and text-based games are pozzed in general.

I'm sorry but I'm not the creator of X-Division. That mod is more of a total conversion than an expansion pack. Why would you need some optional gog client to play it?

Fuck off toby fox

If it makes you feel any better, people would laugh if it off if you made it in Unity or GameMaker or most other things as well. Because people are cunts.

Change the diddly graphics then.

Who cares, rpg maker is for hentai games.

I don't use any of the RTP save for character sprites, which were temporary anyway.

I converted that into a webm for a reason, chucklenuts. Also,
It's like you don't even want to go full indie

Maybe if it had documentation people would use it.

Documentation wasn't how quantum physics was discovered, and even then Schrodinger wasn't even that good at it. Are you telling me that undocumented game design is harder than discovering quantum physics, nerd?

I hate when people do this. Hate a dev for their current behaivour and shit games but don't try to rewrite history and say that their older games are now retroactively bad because of it.

It's meant to be a game engine, not a puzzle game in and of itself, I shouldn't have to discover anything.

That sucks. Have you tried to make the game not look and feel like an RPG Maker game? For example, changing the menus to not look like stock RPG Maker menus or having free overworld movement instead of grid-based overworld movement?

I now feel strangely uncomfortable saying "Just Like Make Game".

They're words I live by, but seeing how far he's fallen, it feels wrong.

Iv'e gone about replacing almost all of the tiles, menues, and font. The only thing that remains of the original RTP, is the character sprites. Outside of that, the game is mostly just puzzle solving, and some LoZ-style combat.

I mean, the game isn't too terribly original, but it's doesn't play like another RPG Maker game.

Screenshot?

...

Why not post it in Holla Forums and get bullied?

Those look like stock assets to me also holy fuck that font.

Well, before this whole election thing he used to fucking based again the thing he has become now. White guilt is a fucking disease.

You and me both. Good taste man

Up until XP I liked the vanilla graphics, after they changed the sprite size on Ace it started looking weird to me.

Nah, THESE are stock assets.

I feel as if this could be edited into loss really, really easily.

People who want to make good shit will seek out decent languages/engines and make it from scratch.
Be glad every schmuck with an idea isn't flooding the market with more shite.

It's not even like all the mechanics have to be unique (but at least improved upon others), but the settings needs to be something to hold your attention. Interesting designs and world.

Make your game unique, and it will attract people.
Good games always shine through- when people know they exist.

When your done, shill it here.

Don't mention the engine. Yes certain engines have bad reputations, but that doesn't change how it looks, only the potential on how it looks.

Show us screenshots and webms.
If people say it looks like a typical RPG Maker game- then change it.

It's possible to sell games now (if one actually buys the program, that is). LISA was even crowdfunded. I was hoping people would actually TRY now that there's actually a carrot at the end of the stick

Replace the stock portrait and charset, and it'll be all good. The font is kinda messy, though.

I gotchu fam

People who want to make good shit will make it regardless of the tools they use. Writing absolutely everything from scratch, even for something as simple as Mario clone, is the one pitfall that has claimed the lives of many /agdg/ nodevs.

So you'd encourage using other engines- but not making your own engine?

Are you literally me?

Good!

You write your engine when:
a)none of the existing engines meet the needs of your game
b)you have some actual experience and know what the fuck you are doing

Otherwise you end up like a bunch of /agdg/ fags before you, who set out to make a shitload of nested if else statements without even knowing what kind of games they wanted to make. Or someone like Yanderedev, who had the whole game design handed to him on a silver platter.

My issue is more how frustrated I get with code.
Error on line (whatever) doesn't fucking help, especially when it all LOOKS like it should work. Correct syntax and spelling.

Then again, my first experience with code was UT editor.
Only thing I made worth a damn was modifying the ammo on the rocket so the grenades would grow bigger (to a limit) and explode in a larger radius as well.

Those were just placeholders until I found something better. That font is shit though, I do agree.

Isn't that what RPGMaker basically is? I've never heard of anyone making a serious game with RPGM; most of what's made on that from what I saw is Nikki-likes, horror geimus, and other weird/surreal shit like Hylics, Space Funeral, Sluggish Morss, or Middens. I always saw that engine as more for "experimental" games.

That said, I really would hate to see this shit fall to the likes of tumblr. I'm aware of the audiences attracted by OFF, but I always thought that was contained to just that game's fandom. (who if I recall, actually chased Mortis Ghost away a la Steven Jewniverse and the old MLP staff) Last thing I'd want to see is an oversaturation of soulless, paint-by-numbers OFF/Earthbound clones with an added layer of SJW preaching, or more fangames that completely miss the point of the original.

Well, my lack of knowledge and skills related to game making tempt me constantly to use the RPG Maker to make my thriller rp game about sheriffs, drunk hillbillies, and casino indians in Alaska fighting to survive against rapist orcs and greek monsters. But what I really want to do is an openworld Rivet City Ramson-like beat'em up as one of the rapist orcs.

Usually the RTP character sprites set people off on ranting about RPGMaker.

Sauce?

But that's just it.

Undertale should be a wake up call to people that the best way to make an RPG is to not fucking use RPG Maker. It's just too damn restrictive and generic turn based rpg combat has been done to death at this point.

>how to make a interesting and seemingly, at the very least fun game in rpg maker
some things are ok, and sometimes you might be able to get away with from editing stock assets, but for the most part, if you can use your own graphics, then it'll make the game 100% better
The only way for this to work, is if the player is under the illusion of choice, and are given a big enough world to explore without being fucked over or blockaded frequently.
Normally, meaningless grind in competent games are given sidequests to give a player a more concrete closer goal that also conveniently helps them through the grind.
a RPG game is called a RPG game.
I wonder what that fucking means?
If you don't have a interesting concept and don't develop it well, (if you're not a good writer, chances are this might be hard for you.) the game is fucked.
In this scenario, making it a comedy type game wouldn't be actually all that bad.
If you can do this part well, you could probably get away with some things I've already mentioned.
the front character screen is fucking boring, and with everyone using the sideview battle system, that's going out of style soon too.
Get new fucking plugins and explore different styles of battle systems. Go more in depth. Give players more choices. Instead of 'Spam 'Generic Holy Hero Move' To Win!', do something that requires more strategy.
The main problem with above, is that you need to also make sure that the player doesn't feel like a battle with a god damn mouse should be a gauntlet. Maybe at level one, but at level fifty?
It also works to scale encounters and disperse them in lower level dungeons. Dungeons you've already cleared or you're too high level for will give you less encounters, but encounters will be to your level. This makes the player feel less annoyed when quickly traversing a dungeon, but if a player deliberately searches for a encounter, they'll get one.
Don't be afraid to tack a dumb 'PATH NOT CREATED YET' on your demo on choices that would affect the story, choices you haven't developed yet.
For that matter, don't take depth lightly. Create stats, and stat menus. Don't be afraid to create new weapons or weapon types. Create a large ass spell list, and allow the player to choose player class or allow said player to choose what stats increase on level up and let them learn their own skills.
Create a enchanting system. A smithing system. Crafting systems in general. Alchemy. Scroll crafting. House building. If it takes three days to implement, implement that bitch.

Not all Rpg maker games are bad.

To be fair, it's not THAT restrictive. Iv'e seen people make rhythm games out of RPG Maker engine. Someone else churned out a chrono-trigger battle engine for RPG Maker.

The issue is that most people who use it aren't very creative, or don't actually know how to make a game correctly.

SJWs love Space Funeral though
