I get your point, but playing fighting games just to play with other people is stupid. I prefer playing on my own a good fighting game that has a lot of content than playing it with other people, online or not. Games are supposed to be fun by themselves, having fun with friends is an extra.
About SC3, it had Chronicles of The Sword, a mode that I enjoyed a lot back then. It had some other extra modes and an actual story mode for each character. I had more fun with it than playing SC5, a game pretty much focused with the online battles, since it didn't have anything different than your average fighting game.
And if you think that it was ok for SF5 be out without a story mode and shit like that, you are the problem.

Let me explain to you how someone that is part of the FGC plays fighting games.
Being part of the FGC doesn't mean you get a fucking ID card in your pocket and that gives you access to the secret treehouse where Daigo blows your dick.

It means when you're alone, you pratice.
Then you host, or go attend, small friendly matches with your group of friends.
Then you go to your local arcade/gaming meetup in your city that might have fighting games, and you play people there.
Ideally, you meet strong players over the internet and arrange to go meet up and play them, to learn.
You might occasionally go to local, small tourneys and see how you measure up to the other players there.
Eventually, once in a while, you go attend big toruneys and see how you measure up vs other players all over the world.
While you're doing this you're:

-Socializing, you're meeting tons of people you would've never met otherwise
-Watching other people play with the people you're playing with, and you're all learning
-You're asking questions to pros on what to do and what not to do, in person, they can literally show you on a stick or pad what you're doing wrong, no impersonal online tutorial bullshit
-You're shooting the shit with people, eating with them, spending time with them, the games themselves become a central gravitational body around wich everyone starts to orbitate and also do other shit, making the moments where you all play more interesting and personally involved than random online matches
-If you take trips somewhere else to go play pros, you might also visit other cities you wouldn't have visited otherwise
-If you do money matches you might earn (or lose) a little bit of money making the matches feel more intense and giving them higher stakes
-You're getting better, and i mean MASSIVELY better at fighting games compared to just playing alone or online, you'll progress like fucking crazy compared to any other method
-And finally, you're having a shit ton more fun than people just playing alone or online

The point i'm trying to make here is that this is how someone that is deeply involved in the FGC thinks, and approaches these games.
The games become a central hub towards a shit ton of other activities, that's why sometimes they only care about a basic vs mode and for the game itself to be as polished as possible, and that's it.

Fighting games have more in common with RL tabletop games than any other genre, they're social games at their core, the best players in japan go to their local arcade place EVERY DAY, they play with other people RL EVERY DAY they don't fucking stay inside and jack off their tiny dicks playing online matches and then proclaiming they're good.

Holla Forums, and their no friends spaghettificated sperg ways, makes them in line with the needs of casuals that just pick up a fighting game once, want their SP story mode, and then put them back down.
This isn't inherently a bad thing, any fighting game series MUST absolutely balance competitive content with casual content in order to survive long term.

SCV was rushed because of TekkenTT2. SFV was planned that way. Daishi was a fucking hero for at least releasing the game actually functioning since it only got some balance patches and Character Creation DLC.
You at least have the best character creator that with HEXedit you can do a lot of crazy stuff [spiler]and bypass DLC verification[/spoiler]. Also Legendary Souls and Quick Battle has a lot of fights to entertain you. Better than "guess what you can do in this fight or you won't get anything" of SCIV.

Okay. I play fighting games for fun, not for competitive, mostly because I have other things to do and other games to play. Of course, I try to learn as much as possible while playing one game, increasing the difficulty and all according to how well I'm doing. The thing is, I don't have time, will or reason to go full competitive on the ways you said, but I have nothing against it. My problem is that games should be fun by themselves and "socializing"/playing with other people should be and extra. I'm talking about consoles/PC here. Arcades are alright the way they've always been.

Yeah, that character creation was kinda good, but I still think it wasn't enough to make me feel like I had the game I wanted. Those characters with the same "fighting style", but changing some details (Kilik, Edge Master and Elysium) and some of the new ones were awful decisions. You can HEX edit them to have a fixed style at least. Also you can create a character using Ezio's style, set what would break or not when the character had an armor break or unlock SCIV skins for Cervantes(Inferno), Nightmare and Siegfried. And many other things.

I still remember that day that I created a bunch of characters and made them fight each other on the CPU vs CPU mode, changing how the story was going according to who won each battle. There was a villain who killed 9 characters in a roll. I had to put some rule that she was too tired and left or something after losing two rounds, or else, she would've killed everyone there.
About Patroklos, I didn't think he was interesting as a character, I liked Z.W.E.I. more, but that's my opinion. His sister was kinda cute during the end, when she was worried about her "demon hand" though.

Bloody Roar has consistently avoided the issue by designing their characters to be monsterous rather then just animalistic. Characters in BR feel more like monsters the darkstalkers characters do, and outside of felica, furries have never been an issue for Darkstalkers.

I can't speak for everyone but for me it's a combo of two things. The first one is specific to werewolves in that this thing is huge and can probably tear out my throat in new and exciting ways, but in the sexual context it's taking my dick like a champ and preferably being super submissive as well. There's at least some argument to be said on the 'reversal' of gender roles. No, I'm serious. Men on average would be able to kick the shit out of a woman but find them physically attractive and in general are more likely to want to fuck them than fight them.
