Skullgirls is dead I think. The game had beautiful animation but I hear it was expensive and time consuming to make so they werent able to have half the character roster they had, even with crowdfunding.

I was trying to follow it but I didn't look at the stretch goals; Indivisible barely hit its main goal as it was, mostly thanks to suddenly large last-second donations.

I'm cautious about this game, but since I liked Skullgirls at a basic level I'd probably have fun with this if I played it. I'm gonna be waiting to hear on launch day how people find it. Otherwise, I'll still be kinda wishing Lab Zero had just done Marie, Umbrella and Black Dahlia so we could have had the story mode in SG.

Fighting games are a lot more expensive than they look, but Lab Zero have two bigger things holding them back:
The animation is their greatest strength, though, so it's hard to argue its removal. A lot of people got into Skullgirls just because of how good it looked. But does Indivisible need this animation? Do future games? Iunno; with brand recognition under their belt, a Skullgirls 2 could get away with stylised 3D models like what GGXrd did.

I have no idea why they are still in San Francisco. Staying there must eat massively into their budgets, be it for food or offices or accommodation, etc. and a lot of Lab Zero devs weren't living that well off of their crowdfunder budget. Why can't they just relocate to somewhere cheaper, set up a few computers and tablets there, and make their games where it doesn't cost…how much money does it cost to live in San Fran nowadays?

Biggest thing after an anime opening is Voice Actors from the shitty VA Union hand picked by Christina Vee. After that, I forget, because I wanted it to succeed but not hire expensive, douchey, overused Voice Actors so I don't give a fuck about anything else. I just want it to be a fun game, and it has the possibility to be fun. It'll probably end up botched somehow.

it is, you may want to look into it, it's been a very refreshing anime from people with virtually no pedigree. The people behind it have an interesting history, but few major projects under their names. The director, notably is known for animating the entirety of Space Dandy episode 18 himself, with no assistance. This is also considered the best animated episode in the series - Flip Flappers is his first directing position. The CGI artist is former studio ghibli staff, and has done great work already. It's a noteworthy contrast to triggers low budget, low quality, janky looking animation which gets by with its liberal use of cheating effects in that it quite often features deliberate and slow animation with a lot of weight behind it. It's a joint effort between a few studios and interestingly, it was completed before its airing (most anime is still being worked on while it is airing.)

It's an oddity, and a little hard to follow, but rich in small details and very consistent. Very inventive story telling too.

I played World Heroes at the arcades when I was little. I usually mained the one representing Joan of Arc. The whole point of the game was that it was an international cast from all over the world, it was designed by the japs and 3/4ths of the cast were still white.

This feels so unnatural and forced. Half the designs look like they started as white characters and then they just changed their skin color, many of the others look like they just googled weapons of cultures with brown people and then spent five minutes designing a character around the weapon. Tungar for instance, I know those swords, a character in a fighting game with a style built around it should be a lot of fun, but the character himself looks like no effort was put into his design at all. Still never played much of it even though I have it downloaded. It's not very impressive from the little bit I did play. AGI games are not hard to make, me an my brother working on them back in the late 90's as a hobby. We even helped with a QfG6 fan game with the guy's from agdinteractive. Same people that latter went on make the fan remake of QfG2.

I'll admit I like a lot of characters in the Witcher games but mostly for memorable lines or story moments. Visually, only a select few have something going on for them.

What new fighting game character that has come out with the recent fighting games (SFV, KoFXIV, Tekken 7, etc.) are memorable? what do they do that these characters don't?

That 10% could be hobos and Ryu clones for all people could care, since it's not their face that sells the game, but the main characters'. There's some exception to that though.

That's why I'm asking if there are any new characters that have come out recently that stand out or are cool enough to stand the test of time and what differences they have compared to the characters in indivisible you don't like.

Bedman is such a weird, dumb concept that I can't help but find him kind of endearing. Helps that I like his moveset as well.

Personally, I don't care for a lot of Indivisible's character designs, but there are a few that I do like like Naga Rider and Tungar and, in the end, character design will likely take the backseat to team building for me, assuming I bother with the game.

While not a brand new game, Elphelt Valentine is a hugely popular character from Guilty Gear, with their popularity outclassing many veteran characters.
Elphelt, storywise, is a robot that seemingly is rebelling against her creator, which is the primary antagonist. In-game she's a super happy character and always talks about getting married.

Was about to post Cidney. I'd say she's memorable on the amount of assblast she's causing in the West alone.


I find SFV's and T7's newcomers memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Anyway, from the game I actually play, KoF XIV, there's:
Antonov - he'd just be a generic brawler but as the tournament sponsor, he's surprisingly down-to-earth and all round bro-tier so I'd say it's the personality and the moves that make him memorable.
Luong - has a ~ara femme fatale vibe about her which is a nice change from the usual teen/young adult female characters.
Mian - a cute. CUTE!
Sylvie - for good or bad, the Kyaru Pyamy Pyamy knock-off is certainly memorable.
Xanadu - psychotic manchild with coked out eyes that occasionally spouts cosmic wisdom.
And so on. IMHO KoF XIV had a nice cast of newcomers. Ain't even mad that most of my favorites didn't return.

I know that there's a, probably less brown, character from a game that looks like the one hold the dodgeball. I want to say his name starts with a T and it has a apostrophe in it, but I can't figure it out. I could've just called him Exotic Wakka though.

Also, I was going to name the red girl Mass Effect Reject, but I don't know that would have worked.

Having tried a bit of it on PS4 I still can't help but feel a bit confused. I like the music and the animations, that deserves credit where credit is due. But at the same time the combat system is it's biggest flaw right now, I think all you could do was attack or defend so I hope that gets tweaked like crazy. I'm also worried they'll focus too much on either trying to be a good platformer and a poor RPG, or a good RPG but a slow as balls platformer, or end up in the middle with a bland game.

I guess I'm too tired but in a case like this I want to be proven wrong and see that they can make a good game, but it seems like this could be easy to mess up.

Well I don't know if that really counts since it's from like more than 5 years ago but Juri and Crimson Viper seem to be popular designs, if only because of waifufaggottry. I know it's hard as fuck since on the one hand, the industry is dry of any actual talent that doesn't come from the Calarts clique or isn't a mindless artist scrambling a design for the all mighty AAA industry, on the other hand literally everything has been tried already, the point is that at the very least those waifufaggottry designs stand out among the older ones while at the same time not being 100% stereotypes or clones of other characters. With Indivisible, it just seems to me they took a bunch of concepts and character archetypes, weaponized them, made them niggers or spics and called it a day, with no respect to a well defined silhouette or gimmick.

Shovelkight might be shilled to hell and back on Holla Forums, but at least its design can stand out because it's simple, recognizable, doesn't get filled with useless details and with the exact colors and palette for its settings. The cast for Indivisible is all over the place with colors, yet the only thing making them different is their choice of weaponry, with no theme or worthwhile design to link them. You could tell me any of the characters on that list was the actual main guy and, with the exception fo the most generic ones, I'd just have to take your word for it.
And I'm guessing the reason for that mess of a roster is because they literally forced Ahad to tone it down with the lives and hometowns and turn the dials on maximum diversity. I mean, that guy might be a sleazy looking mongrel, but give him a pencil, a piece of paper and a Victoria Secrets catalog and the man will instinctively throw in a good design.

If I'm not mistaken, Ahad only designed a few characters and it's Mariel who's at the helm. They're just (shoddily) copying his style so people can look at the designs and recognize it as by the people who did Skullgirls.

Yeah, I am kind of worried about the fact that they are trying to make this a real mishmash of a bunch of things.

I think its great to have some ambition, but I could see this lack of focus blowing up in their faces pretty hard.

That said, I personally really liked the prototype once I started getting the hang of it and started learning some of the less intuitive stuff that had to do with the super meter and the moves affected your cooldowns.
The boss, the boss pit escape, and the secret boss battle are probably the highest points of the prototype, for me.
Fighting the fodder felt a lot more tedious than it could have, but perhaps that is because the prototype has yet to have a lot of the real mechanics of combat added to it beyond the bare basics.

Time will tell how this game ends up.

I really hated Sylvie and Xanadu. They really break the stupid wacky boundary for me. Sylvie moreso because she's a literal carbon copy of an Idol and the world needs more of that shit and then Xanadu because we could have gotten another character like Freeman, Yamazaki, Raiden,or Hwa Jai but instead we got a wacky stupid character.


But street fighter took stereotypes of different characters and put them in a game. Honestly they aren't 10/10 icon material but I would have to see some of the characters moves before I completely dismiss them. There are some designs that do scream "background NPC" though.

Actually, the first two look better than the original, but not because of what you may think.

First one looks better because of contrast. While the original has a good degree of contrast between the upper clothing and her skin, her lower body and hair do not. I personally think the problem relies in the hair and not in the skirt, and could be solved by giving her some animu hair or even white/blonde hair. In this case, the contrast between orange and green is very hard, which is why the design looks livelier and prettier.

Second image actually doesn't look better because of the colors. In fact, it has some really bland colors since they decided to keep a dress designed for darker skin colors in a pale girl. However, they changed her moody face for a smiling one, which makes her look funnier and friendlier, which helps getting across a different message. It's kind of like that kids' book about people who managed to be pretty despite having an ugly face simply because of facial expression. I bet you could improve the original design quite a bit if you ported that version's face to the original.

Third one doesn't look better, that's just your Bizarro SJW self speaking. :^)

That said, I'm talking out of my ass since it all comes down to artstyle and the game's color palette. The original design could look pretty good on some pastel sky blue background, whereas the first redesign would just be an eyesore. Likewise, some "ugly" designs can look good if put together. A predominatingly black (as in, pure black, not nigger) may look good on top of a white background and vice versa, if your game is stylized. You can also get away with simple monochrome color schemes if you put one or two striking details in a different color, etc.

tl;dr dark skin is not the problem, it's pretty much the combination of everything else.

The levels aren't designed to make the main character stand out, the camera sway and jiggly models (look at the fucking 0:28-0:35 segment; had this been the coma part of Hotline Miami all would have been well and even cool, but this isn't supposed to be trippy), and somehow they managed to fuck up Razmi. Also the combat system looks bland as fuck, and the movement of the characters in combat is all retarded since they keep bumping each other.

They went from Skullgirls to this. How can you fuck up this bad?

The one cool thing is the enemies being on the map, but they still removed the thing that gave VP depth, the fact that characters could move simultaneously, that would probably be way above the skill ceiling for these amateurs.

Anyway, all of those predictions died on November 8th. We are now in a new and uncharted future.

What irks me more than it should is that for all these talks about platforming, the platforming movement is surprisingly bland. Take a look at Muramasa Demon Blade. You'll spend a lot of time running around, but you'll see small details that make the running and jumping memorable. From a standing position to when they start running, you can see fluid movement. The characters will start moving their feet a bit slower at the start and then full sprint speed, and their bodies also lean a bit to the front like a Sonic/Naruto run. It's unrealistic, yes, but again, it shows a bit of progress between standing and running. Also, the females look back at the viewer when they run for a while. Maybe because you're oggling at them, or maybe because they're looking out for an enemy or treasure.
And when they jump and start falling, their bodies don't remain static, you'll see that their bodies move a bit while falling, as well as their clothing or equipment. Little details but at least don't look like a cardboard cutout falling to the ground.
