I never understood city life, the city never shuts the fuck up it's always noisy. The air is thick and dank with traces of smog. You can't drive anywhere because there's too much traffic.
I like to visit the city now and then, but I just can't imagine actually living there and not being completely sick of it all after the first 2 days.

The solution aka Dr Manhattan/Aliens is to drive the cost of war up for benefiting parties, benefiting parties being the entire world. Its the same reason most fights don't end in death, people simply are not motivated enough to destroy their futures by killing somebody over something petty, but add private defense of a loved one and people are willing to kill. The plot device serves as a means to up the cost of war for all sides who are under the common treat, making war too expensive to be viable (not just financially but socially and ideologically)

DR M/Aliens drives the cost up for super powers to fight against each other, war is a last resort of political strife. Uniting super powers that will lead to space exploration immensely ups the cost of war for both parties because of new found shared wealth and common treat towards national security and continuation.

Suicidal death cults like "peaceful sheepherders" will still be a problem but it will still be a problem that is global and won't lead to global conflict because the treat effects everybody, if anything united under a common banner the acceptance of total war on said "problematic" groups will be accepted more willingly by the general public because liberals will have been forced to deal with consequences. Deterrence will be easier to achieve this way as well because literally millions of people died and people do not want it to happen again, they will be scared and they will be angry but united. The unity is not based on mutual respect or ideology but on mutual benefit which is much more tangible.

Tensions will still exist between super powers yes, but enough tension for a global war to kick off again? Very unlikely because of said mutual interest, disputes in space will most likely be handled like Antarctica as previously mentioned it simply ups the cost of war for any one nation too much.

Super powers would have to convince themselves that fighting each other is worth any cost including giving up the bounty of space, new found wealth, technological advancement etc.
