I want to play a certain type of game. I have something very specific in mind, maybe that's why I can't find anything. Probably you guy could help me out.
I want it to be an action game, not necessary something complex or hardcore, just real time mob smacking that feels really good.
I also want it to have bright and colorful, maybe even kid-friendly, aesthetic. You know with big heads and all that.
And finally I want it to be grind friendly, so I can ugprade my character's stats, skills, weapons, armors, all that.
Bonus points if enemies would drop some kind of coins/gems/sparkles on death that I could collect and then spend on ugrading my stuff.

But I don't want it to be zelda with its puzzles, gimmicky upgrades that you need to use to access new areas and anti-grinding features such as lack of experience and levels, and like 3 or 4 swords in the entire game.
Preferably something on PC, since framerate is a big deal to me.
It may or may not be online game, I just wish to smack cute monsters and collect shiny crystals for them.
Does such thing exist?

Oh I played that. It was nice, but I have something 3D in mind, or something with more verticality, my fault for not adding this to my request.

...

Never played any of those, thanks user!

ragnarok battle offline

...

It's absolutely not grindy though.
And I really should have noted that I don't want a beat em up.

Will check that one too, thanks.

Looks like you're describing Hyrule Warriors, if you have a WiiU or a 3DS and can whithstand the shitty framerate I'd say play that.
The combat in Rune Factory seems like what you want also, but you also have to deal with a lot of farming relationship stuff.

Of those I've played cat girl and cloudbuilt, they're nothing like what you described you wanted.
Code of Princess seems similar to phantom breaker.
Never heard of the other one.

One of the main problems of the game in my opinion is the ability to grind levels and make minmax builds, though.

You could try Torchlight 1&2, they're not super cutesy but they do have bright and colorful cartoony visuals.

OP said action, user.

I love Cloudbuilt but I suck shit at it. I can never seem to master the controls. So I can clear the first half of a route and then I just hit a wall.

Shining Soul 1 and 2 for GBA, so get an emulator for that game. Also Hammerwatch or most "rogue-like" indie that has come out recently.

Let's see what we ended up with.

Despite gorgeous artwork actual in-game graphics look terrible. Gameplay seems fine, but then again it's more of a beat em up than a whacky-smacky I'm looking for. I think I'll pass it.

This is a parkour/running game. Why did you even post it? I don't want to play a game like this.

It's a shmup. Once again not what I want.

Turned out it is a snes game. I can probably emulate it, but does it really allow player to forget his daily worries in mindless grinding? But it indeed looks like zelda without gimmicks and puzzles, so maybe I'll give it a shot eventually.

Played through each one. I like TL1 more because it's more comfy and concentrated game, while TL2 tries to be Diablo 2 a bit too hard. It also some lost charm and humour of TL1.
But then again those are, what do you call it, a diablo clone? I want something more tactile, where I directly control character, not just order it around like a unit.

Oh I played them a long time ago. I remember being pissed that equipment was not properly displayed on character, despite it being GBA game. I don't thing I loved it a lot, since I can't really remember anything about bosses or areas. You could play as kung-fu wolf straight outta Darkstalkers though. Or a dragon knight. Cool stuff.

So far the only game that looks like something I want more than Secret of Mana. Screenshots look absolutely beautiful, but I'm not huge fan of lazy style of animation where instead of drawing new frames they just stretch and rotate parts of character. I guess Vanillaware games popularized it, since it looks a lot like not-Vanillaware game minus Kamitani's style.
But it looks more of an adventure game, not a real grindan heaven, I dunno. I'll give it a shot.

But I'm still open to suggestions. Maybe if I mention that megaman legends gave me feeling similar to what I want will help? Though obviously I want something with close quarters combat, not shooty stuff. Yes it had laser sword, but it was not the focus and you could only get it near the end of the game.

...

That shit is anything BUT relaxing grinding.
Soulsbornes don't have shit on Fortune Summoners.

If you play Code of Princess I beg you to get the undub. The English dub is a crime against humanity.

Odin Sphere on PS2 ("Leifthrasir" remake on PS4/Vita) came to mind.

Not just LEGO games made by this studio?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveller's_Tales
Probably not grindy enough for you.

this looks great if you like that kinda game.

I do. I'm a big sucker for Vanillaware games in general (see also GrimGrimoire, Muramasa Rebirth, Dragon's Crown) due to being a spritefag. From what I remember of playing it on PS2, Odin Sphere fits best to OP's request..

Op, play Dark chronicle it is pretty much exactly what you described, it even has enemies dropping sparkling exp. Gems and coins like you asked. Be warned though, the game gets a bit repetitive. With each area having you go through the samey randomly generated dungeon levels. Though the city building and the crafting is mostly enough to keep things interesting.

Emulate MM Zero, OP. and git gud

Magical Pop'n?

BOY DO I HAVE THE GAME FOR YOU

Op reporting in, jumping IDs because such is 8ch.

I played Odin Sphere and Muramasa. Something didn't click with me, so I finished neither. I dunno what went wrong.
I also did research on Pankapu game, that seems to be inspired by it, and turned out it's an episodic game, and only the first one is released so far.
Guess I'll put it on backburner for now.

That definitely looks like something I wanted. Also heavily resembles less acrobatic version of Kingdom Hearts.
Does it have 60 fps patch? Emulating Kingdom Hearts 2 FM with 60 fps patch was infinitely superior to ps3 version. I even got golden crown on critical mode. I hope ps4 collection will be 60 fps since that 2.8 trailer was.
I guess I could emulate Birth By Sleep with 60 fps patch, but playing KH on anything but critical sounds like a crime, and I want something casual right now.
Or maybe I'll replay 2 on proud just to have fun, but still KH doesn't provide too much freedom for grinding and upgrading.

Ahahahah.
No.
I S ranked first and A ranked the rest of them, best 2D game of all time, ZX doesn't compare. I just didn't have patience to S rank them though, I burned out at that point.

That's super cute, but I don't see at as grindan heaven either.

Looks like that Senran game, and not in a good way tbh. How long does it take to clear level on average difficulty? How long does it take to load an average level?
Even on PC I spent more time in Senran game watching loading screens than playing the game itself, and no I'm not on toaster. I heard the issue is even worse on vita. This one looks extremely similar.

So far Dark Chronicle looks promising, but I really hope I can play it on 60 fps. Only a few PS2 games can be patched because of speed being tied to framerate and all that.

MMZX is better for a relaxing and enjoyable platformer, thought.
Not with that ugly stretched UI. Also, KH can be a casual game as long as you don't play on critical.

I'd rather have ASPECT RAIDOU for an UI than being locked into 30 fps for no reason. But yeah I can see KH being press X to win on regular modes. Kinda makes me curious about differences between normal and easy.
And no MMZX is not a realxing game, it tries to be as hard as MMZ but fails to do so leaving you with bullshit and boredom.

You tried warframe? It's not exactly kid friendly but there is no better grind game.

Chantelise

It's by the same guys who made Recettear but it's a straight up action RPG without the shop management, with proper dungeons instead of randomly generated and with deeper combat.

Yeah have around 600 hours in it.
Stopped playing around new relic system or whatever. Got too pissed with devs to keep putting up with it.
I don't regret my time with it, most of it was fun, but I don't see myself returning to it ever again.

Holy shit, I can't believe nobody have stated the obvious yet, but musou games are exactly what you're looking for, apparently, Pirate Warrior in particular, for you,

I really rather my pretty UI over 60fps when 30fps is perfectly playable. Faggots these days give too much shit about fps when it's as trivial as UI, at least in Kingdom Hearts.
How wrong can you be?

Well I can't blame you for leaving, I stopped at about the same number of hours.

I value gameplay over visuals, if it's the other way for you let's leave it at that. At least I hope we can both agree that KH is great game as well as MMZ.

I vaguely remember it. Wasn't it actually pretty damn hard with some unusually complex magic system?

MapleStory.

www.mapleroyals.com

fps doesn't affect the gameplay at all, much less in KH, even in critical.

Looks nice.

Not really, the difficulty is not casual but I wouldn't say it's hard at all, something like is what I would consider hard. As for the magic, it's not complex at all, just weird, you collect colored gems from defeated enemies and the spell that comes out when you press your magic button depends on the combination of gems you have and also uses them up, it's a bit arcadey if anything.

OP you just literally described the FATE franchise.

remember grinding your way through a diablo II dungeon that had like 4 floors, and occasionally opening portals to go back to town, sell items, buy potions, reorganize inventory, and jump back into the dungeon where you left off?

the FATE franchise is the same except dungeons have up to 100 floors or more and you keep getting better and better items, all floors are randomly generated (instead of being taken from a fixed set of possible maps), and the atmosphere and feel of the game is most definitely cartoony and kid friendly. It plays like Diablo II for autistic children that need to increase numbers for periodical doses of endorphin.
the NPCs in the "town" give you MMO tier quests of "collect 5 wolf fangs", when you complete that you'll get a "collect 5 alpha wolf fangs" and then "collect 5 demonic wolf fangs" and so on that you can complete as you progress deeper and find the same mobs with different colors and higher stats.

the installers can be easily downloaded, they shit out a new game every year and they're all the same, usually not heavier than 1-3gb each. they're """fun""" if you really need autismal repetitive fun with increasing numbers.

enjoy.

I think what you're looking for is Spiral Knights, but it's suffering from a serious lack of content(I think since release it still hasn't had a new level tier for people to play). Also I'm not sure if there are still people even playing it.

I'd love her to grow a dick and rape me

yeah, the joke was that she's also called fate.

but fate is a real games franchise, its obscure because its a PC-only braindead Diablo clone for autistic children. but it exists.

might be just what OP needs.

she's Faye tho, you failure of a joker

OP, what is wrong with you? Regardless, River City Ransom and Tokyo Rumble are good beat em ups. Tokyo Rumble has a grind to it though. If you want grindan the game but nothing to pick up midbattle, play Gotcha Force. Gachapon-style collection of enemy borgs and 9 different playthroughs that I think use different seeds to randomly generate which ones you get. I've beaten the story mode I think only 8 or 9 times, though.

Isn't her name Faith?

huh, well, either way. OP should try that shit

I just remembered Spiral Knights.
The game has some shitty systems and limitations tough.

nigga get the fuck out

do check out basara though

any updates on river city underground?

...

Play Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma. Also Ys Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin, probably.

Pic 3 is their last update from October. Logistically their date was probably pushed back to let River City Tokyo Rumble release, which was delayed itself a couple times.

Bump.

I played it a bit but dropped because of stamina system. I hear they eventually removed it, but I don't feel like returning to it.

I already talked about diablo clones and beat em ups.
Yes I want action game, but not a beat em up or a musou clone or a soulsborne or a stylish action game.

It's hard to explain. Really something like Dark Chronicle or Chantelise, but maybe more modern? With shiny plastic graphic even, I dunno.
I really want to say zelda, but I don't like iconic features of zelda - abilities and "return here later" concept, as well as the lack of traditional RPG mechanics.

I never played a lego game. Aren't they just shitty minigames packs that promote toys?

I played those as well as PSO2 and the one on NDS.

The Monster World series is exactly what you want. Wonder Boy III on Turbografx and Monster World IV on Genesis are the best ones, although you might want to wait on the former since it's getting a remake soon.

Play some CrossCode, nigga.
It's an Early Access game. The story isn't complete but the grindan and upgrading is all there. Grab the demo or torrent it if you're not sure.

Getting red flags right off the bat.
I guess trying demo won't hurt though, gameplay is all that matters.

play tree of savior

If you're going to play Secret of Mana, give Seiken Densetsu 3 a try too. It's like Secret of Mana with classes, and by extension, a lot more replay value.

Forgot to add, it does have an English patch.

Yeah, Tree of Savior as a melee class is alright if you can endure the linearity of it.

That game is so painfully bad.

I'm pretty sure I've seen porn with some of those girls, never wondered where are they from.

OP check out croixleur sigma if you have a PS4. If you don't, the PC version has half as much content. You're practically asking for that exact game.

Since people are recommending *of Mana games I really recommend Legend of Mana. Though I might be a little biased as it's my favorite game.

Those games just feature flat round arena with mobs dropping on you. I'd rather have something with actual levels/verticality in it.

Does it have any 3D entires? I tried Seiken Densetsu 3 with english patch and it felt like watered down Beyond Oasis. I want something a little more intence, but still not full on beat em up.

I only played remake of the fisrst one and ramming enemies is not my idea of good combat. And if later series changed into something more convenient, will it be alright to skip first ones? Where do I start with that franchise if I don't want nes-styled combat?

...

try ys origin and oath in felghana. They are completely different. Also look forward to sakuna

youtube.com/watch?v=eQd7sNgOGy4

Rabi Ribi, Valdis Story, Croixeur Sigma, should all tick those boxes OP.

Chantelise is terrible, reccetear is much better. The controls in chantelise are painful.

Spiral knights should never have made it past closed beta, only the incredible stupidity of people that pay into f2p shit let it survive. That crystal energy system was irredeemable cancer.

It looks like something from Bunny Must Die team, but much much worse. Animation is super lazy too.

It's one guy, and yes its by him. I don't know what you mean by it looking worse when it looks exactly like all of his games, including BMD.

Good gboy, make sure to pre-order the latest cinematic experience™ for you next generation gaming platform at silky smooth 24 frames per second and ultra realistic 4k chromatic aberration for maximum immersion.

BMD had fluid and expressive animations, while that thing has like 3 frames for main character walking, and weapons just spawning and doing their swings without her moving at all.

Aside from having more frames in the walk cycle, they are exactly the same with weapons just spawn and swing around the character. Did we even play the same game? Cause it sounds to me like you played Metal Slug instead of some overhyped doujin game by calling the animation fluid and expressive.

Hello waifu faggot.

It's the Jesuits, not the Jews.

Back to your disinfo board, fascist socialist shill.

Jesuits use the Jews as a scapegoat, and Holla Forums falls for it.

The Vatican largely controls the world.

If anything metal slugs's animations are overexpressive

I'm not paying a cent to these hacks, neither I'm touching an unfinished product.
Are there games like these? And no, don't give me fucking zeldas with their heart containers and no freedom for autism.>>11337375

...

murder all semitic cults

quit trying to derail.

Summon Night Swordcraft Story might be up your alley. Though I can't remember the game very well.

So… Maplestory?

Seriously, tell me how much grind you're looking for here. But I've heard maplestory has changed a lot over the years and the grind isn't nearly as bad anymore.

Jesus Christ. This is the same old JIDF bullshit. Always with the blaming those stupid catholicucks because kikes are eternally butthurt about them. Everybody fucking knows catholicucks powerless otherwise abortion would be b& worldwide by now among a whole bunch of other bullshit and anytime anyone criticises catholicucks they'd be called by a rush of media as "anti-catholic". Fuck off you kikes just because you're butthurt about catholicucks. The best proof that they're powerless is that if they really had control one of their highest ranking members wouldn't have to censor themselves when a motherfucking BISHOP named the jew please use archive.is/2010/04/12/bishop_blames_pedophilia_jews_open2010/
Look how they had to deflect to "freemasons". If they had real power Israel wouldn't even fucking be anything less than Christian and zionism would be illegal like the UN demands.

Did you really need tor to post that?

Bump

No, see vid related.
