The G3 uses a roller-delayed blowback action. Because of the monolithing bolt assembly they tend to be very accurate for a semiauto rifle, especially in its heyday. Its why the PSG-1 was derived from the design. The tradeoff is that you don't have a big, snuggly gas system soaking up the recoil so they kick like a mule.

The FAL meanwhile uses a tuned, short-stroke gas piston system. The bullet has left the barrel before the action begins to move so it stays relatively accurate. Compare this to something like the AKM where you have a giant, spring-loaded piston smashing back and forth above the barrel while the bullet is trying to leave it.

The FAL, however, has an adjustable gas system. You can dial it up high so it will shoot perfectly even when full of mud and shit, or you can dial it down and let the gas system bleed off all the recoil and make it kick like a .22. The ergos are perfect. It doesn't need optics or any fancy shit.

Top-break revolvers are rare for a reason. The forcing cone flash puts a lot of wear on the topstrap of any revolver, and a top-break's topstrap is extra weak because the locking latch has to be there. They held up okay in cowboy days because of the low pressure of blackpowder cartridges, but trying to run modern ammo in one wears them out VERY fast. If you just fucking have to have one, Uberti of Italy makes a Schofield top-break replica in .45 Schofield that is nice quality. If you want a revolvulator to actually shoot, get a modern swing-out cylinder model.

If you hazmoney, get a Smith and Wesson model 627. If you're poor, Taurus has a model called the 627 Tracker that is pretty good. And lastly, if you want to be a sophisticated man of good taste, track down a used Ruger Security Six in .357magnum. Its like a Colt Python that could survive a nuclear holocaust, and I adore mine.
