I THIRST FOR GOOD PLATFORMERS!

I THIRST FOR GOOD PLATFORMERS!

BRING ME YOUR FINEST!!

I've been into this a lot lately.

This one is the best platformer I've ever played

Gigantic Army is a genuinely great underrated 2D run 'n gun where you control a mech
The controls are fucking slick, the scoring encourages you to not get hit and go fast, the difficulty settings actually spice up enemy placement on higher difficulties. You also get a fucking giant laser and a PILE BUNKER.
It's on sale right now for three bucks, and quite frankly you should get the entire ASTRO PORT pack for ten bucks because they shit out some doujin gold. It includes a really good Gradius clone, a 70's mecha-style SHMUP with fusions and yellow subtitles for the Japanese dialogue, and the sequel to Gigantic Army which features mouse aiming and is still really good, although I prefer GA.

Fuck off, jew.

Deadcore. It's first person, and focuses on speedrunning. You use boosts to move around, shoot things to enable/disable them and try to get to the end of each stage.
It runs on relatively shitty computers as well, which is a plus.

I like Umihara Kawase games, but they aren't for everyone.

I think intrusion 2 is a must play. Yes it is very clunky due to the physics in the game, but it also lets you do a ton of shit you normally would find impossible.

Motherfucking Prinny
Play in demon mode or go home, faggot

...

Gianna sisters twisted dreams is short but quite neat, with a swap mechanic that changes the world and the song from happy and sunny to edgy and metal.

Tried it, was absolutely nothing special and I worry about anons who swear religiously by it.

i want to cum in the paintbrush lolis mouth

I HOPE THIS IS SATISFACTORY

i think they should hold up the H by the top so it doesnt go on its side like that. whoever made that sign is a fool

i really like the snes game but every time i mess up a hook climb i want to end my life

Why, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) of course.

Either that or they're deliberately going for a kitch ramshackle look with large screws and mismached planks of wood hastily painted blue

well they fucked up. im sure they tried to fix the H by straightening it up and tightening the screw but it just doesnt hold it. i bet the A doesnt even have a space in it at the top, they just use the screw instead because its one less thing to cut.
why do you think headdy is so pissed off? hes looking right at the H. somebody is going to lose their job over this.

Well then headdy's going to have to suck it up and deal with the fact that he ain't as strong as he seems on stage, and handle props that aren't made deliberately lighter to make him seem stronger.

OH FUCK, IT'S THAT GAME
I COULDN'T REMEMBER IT'S NAME FOR A DECADE
GOD BLESS YOUR FAGGOT ASS, user

yeah, hes got a deadline to make. he better just cool off and get it done or the producers going to be dynamite assy.

...

You're welcome, now go play it. It's a damn fine game.

This seriously, mostly for the puzzles. I haven't felt this good while playing a game in years.
Play it blindly: no guides, walkthrough or whatever. Read the manual at best or you'll ruin your experience.

actually it is assumed you have read the manual or you will become stuck.

also some puzzles are too cryptic, if you are stuck, looks for hints

looks for hints online*

Seconding this

Try Battleblock Theater. The singleplayer mode is quite fun, but more fun with friends.
Out There Somewhere is also a nice shooter/platformer crossover. And it's dirt cheap.

Not sure if this is technically a platformer but have it anyway

i thought it was pretty clear how it worked by talking with the elder, since he explains how puzzles gonna work. For some puzzles it's true, but looking up on explainations makes me feel like cheating. I wish you could "buy" a hint maybe like in layton games.

Also the game has community-made levels that you can download, which anyone can make in Lua

(Checked)
You never said it can't be in first person.

Super Mario Bros. 3

You're not the first one to recommend a first-person game, faggot

I'm getting mixed messages there.

Nah. I was really hyped, thought, the idea and the aesthetic is pretty nice, but it just isn't my thing.

I never understood the appeal of Umihara Kawase games.

Well, since first person is acceptable, have this, I guess.

Thanks for the recommendations. Will be checking a lot of these out
(checked)
This game looks perfectly up my alley and is on sale at Steam right now. I think I'll give her a go!

Giana, while very standard gameplay wise, did something new with its aesthetics and music.
Rabi ribi is just a shallow metroidvania with a bullet hell gimmick, which everybody and their dog is doing these days.

I'd never heard of either of these and just looked up some gameplay videos, they seem pretty good. Are they worth getting while they're on sale?

Have you tried the Giana Sisters game on DS?
It feels like a budget game in concept, and everything else is just very well executed. Like someone taking shovelware and making a good game out of it. It's weird.

Difficulty's on the easy side of things and doesn't get that much worse as it progresses. Good for babby's first platformer.

I will take every possible opportunity to shill Ronin.

It's an action platformer with turn-based combat which can be transitioned into and out of. There's not much story to speak of - you're an angry chick in a biker suit who murders people with a katana because you're hellbent for revenge. The meat and potatoes of the game is the action; while stealth is an option, most levels are constructed such that your stealth options will eventually lead to you getting caught and having to improvise.

There are a dozen or so upgrades to get, and while the upgrade tree is a bit too simplistic for its own good (you get one point per mission, no exceptions, abilities take either one or two points to unlock), it does a good job making you commit to one option.

Ronin also features a new game+ mode, which retools much of the enemy placement and gives enemies new behaviour, while unlocking all your upgrades from the previous game from the start. Again, not perfect, since some of the enemies are randomized, but it's markedly more difficult than the normal run through the game and very rewarding to beat.

The soundtrack is also excellent and the art is done by that guy who made the khajit lockpick animation, if you remember that. You can rest easy knowing your money is going towards a couple of Poles who just want to make cool stuff.

Earthworm Jim 1 and 2

...

Good thing neither of those are applicable to Dustforce

Pretty good soundtrack tbh.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is arguably part platformer.

It's $10 on Steam right now, but you can get it on GOG and Humble Bundle if you prefer to get it without Steamworks.

So far it's alright, but I sometimes get really bad FPS drops (40 FPS). I think it's just because the game doesn't precache everything before putting you in. Mouse controls are fantastic, though a fair bit of auto-aim is still in. You need it, though, because enemies basically have it, too.

I've only got a few minutes of playtime in because I'm saving it to play on my laptop while I'm away from the house for the next month.

You know I love the two 3d rayman games. And even on my shitty laptop I can play rayman 2 and 3. I personally think their the best 3d platformers.

Ah, I got that game a few months back. It was really fun, but somewhat difficult (those damn red bulky samurais whatever they were called were a pain sometimes). Granted, it played almost similar to Gunpoint (also another favorite), but I still loved the action and fights within; not to mention the art as well.

I also agree about the soundtrack; it's good. My favorite song in the OST was Swordpoint.

Thinking about it now, I kinda wished they fleshed out the story a bit more rather than just simply "You killed my papa, prepare to die."

You can nevertheless go wrong with mario

I actually love those guys. Making them jump out windows is one of life's finest joys.

I wish there was a bit more story, too, but given that English isn't either the artist or the developer's first languages, I'm hesitant as to whether or not it'd be for the better. If anything, I think some kind of faux dynamic lighting system, or more varied environments would help the game stand out more. One part which really sticks out to me are the levels before you fight the scientist, since you have very few enemies in those levels, comparatively, and you have to explore them more thoroughly since there are more terminals to interact with.

More stuff like that, which played with the previously established formula, would have been nice. The game is really good at stealth when it wants to be (assuming the AI doesn't bug out), so having some more relaxed levels where you just jump and move around more than fight would have helped the pacing, I think. The general's levels and confrontation were loaded with enemies, which felt kind of tiring after the more varied levels before them.

1001 spikes is fun and challenging

Definetly try these games as well.

play donkey kong country tropical freeze

I did. Fucking amazing. Worth getting a Wii-U for alone, honestly.

You have good taste.

i liked tropical dong for the actually good bosses where you can 1/2 cycle them each phase if you're really good

Bumping a thread about video games.

It's a speedrunner's wet dream for platformers; gameplay mechanics that make for a limitless skill ceiling and total freedom on how to approach almost every level

my nigger
Warrior Within is better, though

If you want a little running and gunning with your platforming, try Hard Corps. Uprising on PS3. It's a Contra game built around Guilty Gear style mobility, so you have the capability of some amazing shit once you git gud with your movement options. You've got shit like airdashes, shoulder tackling, dodging around stationary enemies, invincible vaults over objects you can double jump out of, riding around on rocket powered hoverboards, hanging from missiles, parrying bullets, etc. It's a joy to improve your skills and trying to speedrun through levels in various ways. The soundtrack to the game is rockin', which is pretty much a requirement from an ArcSys game. There's also Rising mode, which turns the game into a pseudo-RPG by allowing you to buy stats and abilities not available in the standard mode. If you weren't happy with just a triple jump and the already blistering speed of the base characters, you can buy a partly invincible triple jump, more speed, tons of health and lives, a weapon to start all maps with, etc.

Unfortunately, this was made around the time ArcSys went maximum overJew, so the game has some ridiculous DLC measures. Honestly, the game's fun enough with the two characters they give you in the base game, but I wouldn't hold anything against you if you turned it down for its sales practices. It's seriously awful. But for the $15 I spent on it, I had a lot of fun. I'd recommend it despite its big flaw.

CH-CH-CH-CHECKED

"Let's go go go!"

Porn? I hope it's porn.

It's a game where you get fucked repeatedly by hot and cute chicks until you git gud

Rayman Origins
11/10 game, maybe one of the most underrated games ever.

It's a metroidvania at best and bullet hell at worst. I played it hoping it'd get somewhat pornographic, but nope. No nudity, Just skimpy outfits.

How was the sequel?

I liked it too rayman character looks fucking gay, though

It'd be nice if it was an h-game, but it's not. I still had a lot of fun with it.

I pirated it, but it's pretty good. Pirate it yourself and buy it if you like it. It have a tutorial but other than that, it's straight to the point, maybe too much. The shooting mechanics sucked a little bit, but it feels like 3D megaman X on steroids.

They're both shallow but Rabi Ribi at least have waifu fafgottry, which is a plus.

The sequel would be better if it didn't focus on the multiplayer. The music is really damn good too.

Völgarr the Viking, my mightiest chaos god of order.

even better

Is it worth playing both? I hear the second game has lots of levels from the first.

indeed, he looks like a drooling retard, should be more heroic

yes, the levels from the first one are like bonus worlds, even without them there's plenty of content

Let me trigger some faggots, because it was a great game.

...

I assume it's because it's the newest on he posted a screenshot off.
The PS2 games were great though and I don't think most people on here disagree.

Being able to stomp and perfect parry almost everything is pretty great. And, you know, the first powerup.

The game kept crashing at the final boss in the second mode. I still haven't gotten around to playing to that point again.

Thanks for reminding me that I had these two images saved.

Why are the dinosaurs in Turok fucking fat?

They were all great tbh. It was a bit shitty that the most recent one was just a remake of the first game, but that's not entirely a bad thing; the first game was, as I said, great.

fuck off shill

ronin is fucking terrible, like if mark of the ninja was made by a retard who was shit at everything

also trash, kill yourself you colossal faggot

they ate all the jews

You'd think that'd be the other way around. I fucking hate metroidvanias but bullet hell is alright.

...

>tfw got this free on Uplay

I recently started playing this. It's pretty fun.

Been having a lot of fun with Monster World IV lately. Asha a cutie. A bit easy for a 16 bit platformer, but it's surprisingly well built.

...

:^)
