I know for a fucking fact that even though I was into video games and using the internet I wasn't as bad as these little shits. I have a fairly tech savvy dad who also enjoys video games, and I grew up sharing a lot of great gaming experiences with him. We still talk about Return to Zork even though neither of us have had a way to play it like we used to in the last decade. We would play games together on MAME, and he showed me how to build my first computer in a cardboard box. I didn't grow up spouting memes and bathing in post-post-irony, I wasn't perfect but I certainly wasn't a loud little shit. I'll tell you what the problem is.

This is a direct result of parents not being assed to take any vested interest in what their kids spend 95% of their free time doing. Growing up, I had to ask my parents if it was okay to rent a game, and they had to look at it and make a decision. Buying games was a rare privilege reserved for birthdays and Christmas. If they saw me doing some stupid, brain-rotting shit online they always stepped in and said turn that shit off. I remember having to foil countless attempts of them installing internet watchdog/censorship software because they didn't want us to have free reign at that age. We got grounded, we got disciplined, and we were better off for it.

Then I look at my little brother, and it's just gotten so much progressively worse. He's got his own PC that he can buy games on whenever he wants, whatever he wants, and I only ever hear him screaming cancerous memes at his online friends. Telling him to get off and take a fucking break is an exercise in futility because he'll just go to his room and suckle on the teat of his iPad. If your computer is made up of parts manufactured in the last three years you can edit in HD easily. If you do have a decent machine and it's still laggy at higher resolutions, then that's software's fault for being inept at processing and decoding video.

Calm down you uppity little nigger. I'm a video editor by trade and when you do it professionally you never reference shit in low resolution unless for whatever reason your footage was shot that way. That's like remastering a film, but instead of using well preserved high quality 35mm film stock you remaster it by transferring it to VHS first, then color correct it and upscale, then take all your adjustments, put it in an edit decision list, then apply them to a high def transfer of said film. The end result would be something that looks like ass because you were referencing a shit quality version of the thing you were supposed to be remastering for HD, but instead of using the highest quality source (the film stock) you used an inferior tape and based all your adjustments on that. I made the mistake of previewing things in low res when I started editing in high school ten years ago, because I was using a shit laptop. Once I built a PC I exclusively edit in HD or whatever exact resolution I want to output at.

But I guess for your little meme videos, using software not made for post-production and editing in ass quality works fine.
