UK school adviser to fight back against gamification

How long will it take for other schools to realize that vidya is not the be-all and end-all solution to be able to help kids to better in school? archive.is/lobij

Trying to make learning "fun" is killing children's education all over the west. They don't want to admit that the real reason for worsening results is tightening budgets and increasing melanin levels.

They are raising a generation of plebs.

I could see Minecraft having some usefulness in early learning. Ages 5-8 or so. But it's so simplistic that it doesn't really have benefits beyond spatial recognition and basic logic.

He is right. Video games have no room on schools. Only liberal retards think that's a good idea. Children go there to learn. Undertandably, there are recreation times, but those should be really limited and it shouldn't include fucking video games. The recreation is supposed to provide them with physical strenght and friendship bonds, something that minecraft lacks, a lot.

No, they are desperately trying to rise, at least in some capacity, a generation of Pajeet and Mohammeds.

But pajeet and mohammed are plebs.

...

of course it's a mistake, what did you expect?

He's almost right. What we really need to get rid of are the people who sell and promote those gimmicks.

Almost got me.

No, what "killed" education was forcing young boys to sit still for 8 hours a day and be brainwashed by radfem government employees into being useful goyim instead of having men raise them and teach them useful, practical skills.

Gamification is horrible.
Imagine using Holla Forums, but turning this entire board into a big pissing contest where you try to be as contrarian and hipster as possible, with the only purpose to get reactions out of people and collect (you)s.

Imagine how horrible that would be.
I'm glad i'm on a board of mature free thinkers that will never get roped into that shit.

Pretty much this funny enough.
Almost like they want gender wars?

Worse than that, they're raising a generation of autists.

This. The whole school system seems designed for cowing students into going along with whatever instead of forming intelligent citizens that can make their own informed choices.

There is that word again.

Hey, i'm at almost 100 (you).
Thanks.

The education system needs to be fixed, but for that to happen, they need to fix teachers, which involves changing the way they are trained, which means fixing colleges and universities.. which means removing women's studies departments and stopping student unions from controlling the way topics are approached or discussed at all.. And that's going to bring us to the media, which is being used as a brainwashing tool.

It's a big problem, but trying to make kids learn because you offered them imaginary points and the faggots at Extra Credits said gamification is great, won't even act as a band-aid.

In my times product advertising was forbidden in schools.
And if I would be a competitor aiming at the same demography, I would sue the government for this.

It will never ever happen.
Even if they managed to enact the exact vision they want and see it fail before them, there will never be a point of realization between that and them pointing their finger at their next meme.
Their previous crusade will fade right out of their memory as they take up their next.

call me when you reach 100 misuses of hipster

I don't know what you're talking about. 99.999999999997% of what I know today came from being forced to play Number Munchers on the communal Macintosh II.

Compression nigger vs .JPEG. It's flat, look at the header, there's no application extension block.

This pretty much: recall "schooling children" is to sodomize the youth to the state.
It's not a "library" wherein you can attain knowledge, or an "university" which seeks to unify the worlds of knowledges and attain an academium.

It's all part of the programming: recall how school was pretty much invented by Nazi scientist the USA brought in after the war.

yep.

Recall kids, Schools are not for learning, but for herding. What do you call a group of fish during harvest season?

Can you recall other words for the act of thinking back on a subject after the fact?

Education need privatization: the assumption is that every child learns one way, and that everyone should follow a core curriculum to be fit for modern society. However business men in education dismiss the notion every child is unique, and requires different learning curriculae tailored for their learning patterns. They also dismiss the fact some individuals cannot and should not learn certain material not tailored for their goals and careers. Why does sound engineer need to learn chemistry or art? The same is true for "average joe" well-rounded citizen.

hindsight?

retrospecting?

Hey americans, could you please take these faggots away from us?

Also, the faggot probably never read any sort of study on gamification. All the material I've read on the matter remind you constantly that it's not suitable for everything. Also, using Minecraft in education is not even technically gamification of learning by itself.

Also, it is not the gimmicks that are plaguing education, it's the undermined authority of the teachers combined with lack of funding, meaning less paying, unforgiving, more demanding, restricted job that less capable people will want. Then there's the rigidity of subjects and lack of practical examples. They really need to upgrade their curriculums to include stuff that is relevant to modern world. Combined with influx of immigrants that don't give a fuck and disrupt the school spirit, it's just big mess, but not because some are trying to find new, contemporary ways to educate. What these stupid fuck broiler suits don't realize is that the world isn't the same anymore. Kids are used to easy-access media, all over the place. If the education cannot compete with it, they are gonna lose.

Who the fuck are you and why are you actually smart?
What the fuck are you doing in this shithole surrounded by shitflinging apes?
Go actually find a job and make the world a better place or something.

We should support this guy and meme him into victory, not because we agree (he's a smelly britcuck like all of them) but because it would be the death of DiGRA and all the fucking leeches that are destroying vidya to get those millions from education contracts

No, they're liberti at best and sheer barbarians on average

Minecraft doesn't actually appeal to autistics, it's too open-ended & shallow. That's just a meme started by tinytears.

oh boy here we go

...

I sure do think that everything turned to shit with the recent influx of redditors and cuckchanners. Wouldn't you agree?
Also what doesn't seem to perceive is that all of this garbage is happening on purpose.
But to add on it, compartmentalization. If all disciplines are isolated from each other, there is no way for a student to reach a perspective on the bigger picture by interconnecting all fields of study, and therefore understand what information is supported elsewhere, hence whether said information meshes well with the rest and is then likely to be factual.
Grossly, if everything is cut off from everything, anything can be pushed upon you without you ever realizing it's bullshit.

Then use a PNG, you retard. That looks like shit, and the dithering is ass.

You don't even need to invest money into any of these as they can all be taught digitally through free programs. One of the best skills to learn early on is how to learn to use different programs. Also, using games as a tool for learning isn't a gimmick. I know two people who learned English as a second language simply because they wanted to play World of Warcraft in High School.

False. You don't need to invest money to learn it, but you need to invest money in order to get a paper at the end you learned that.

Years later when you're applying for a job and you tell your would be boss "Yeah, I know about all this stuff, studied it myself, you see" don't expect him to trust you or give you a few days to test you when there's someone else in line with a paper proving he actually knows it.

It's not even about what the paper means or if it accurately represents what you know (it's not accurate ever), but it's the simplest mechanism a boss can use to differentiate between would be employees and make a choice.
Even if you are better than the other guy, if you got a worse score, it was due to some shitty part of your personality and they know this.

Keep up with that meme about "self education" and hoping someone employs you, then you'll learn that everyone saying it never tried their own advice and had it work out for them.

A lot of people non-English speaking countries learned English solely from vidya alone, sod the English class. Smarter ones aced them without glancing at the textbook even once, less brighters ones just hit the book hard and long enough so they can play games.

Hell, I learned moonspeak through and through just because I want to play non-translated good stuffs.

But other than language, and the basic general knowledge. The most they can do is to stir shit up, making kids want to learn more by themselves. But complete education through vidya is utter nonsense. They are just stirred up by the media reporting one research about vidya making people learn better, then the tossers at the higher ups think it is end all solution and forcing this shit down the line. It is like the green tea craze decades ago, but even worse. Green tea band-aids, green tea aroma therapy, bloody hell they even have green tampons. Same shit, different arse.

Our schools are geared for two things: 1.) sending kids off to Uni, 2.) make them good little liberals. Which has further effected the world of higher education due to becoming overburdened and ideologically driven. Both have hurt the job market in the sense that now the Bachelors is the new High School Diploma. In Europe, you need a Bachelors just to get a shitty job that pays barely 30k a year (which is the norm among college grads by the sounds of it), a terrible state of affairs that's slowly spreading to the states. All the while said Bachelors are getting undercut by a flood of cheap foreign labor.

And if you think it's bad now? Wait until Automation hit's the market. It's going to effect EVERYONE; white collar, blue collar, even Jamal and Abdul are going to get feel the burn.

He's completely right, despite looking like an absolute fag in that photo.

I was talking about High Schools not needing to pay to buy books or license programs in order to teach the material in class.

Well, yeah. But saying there is no place for games in learning isn't correct either. I'm saying there is a place for it but it hasn't been figured out yet. It's definitely no be all, end all to learning. Typing of the Dead is probably the best example of a learning game done right.

That's actually the biggest problem and fucks the lives up of a lot of kids. Schools really don't give a shit about the kids. They just want them going off to Uni cause it makes the school stats look good. Means you find a lot of kids that get pushed into University before they are ready end up dropping out and most major Universities are actually severely pissed about this.

This, I went to an innercity school with a fuckload of Burmese immigrants and almost none of them are ready for uni.

...

This is true. I went to university and found that I was woefully unprepared, I'd never been taught half the stuff we were supposed to already know, and I also had no idea how to study and learn by myself without being spoonfed like they do in schools. I dropped out after a year and it was a big waste of time and money for everyone involved.

This. I went to art school and I swear I do better than most uni graduates nowadays (they keep pushing and churning out graduates, even unqualified one so they will not look bad on records). At art school, at least they teach you practical (but not really marketable) skills there, the workshop, the daily grind, the old ways of apprenticeship, nagging, and harsh criticisms are there to beat those skills into you until the day you die. They taught you to be patience, keep working on your skills. Most importantly, they teach you 'how to learn' anything should you need more than the school can provide (which is almost a certainty) so in the future you do anything yourself and truly become independent.

...

As someone who works in a district, fucking yes. Gamification is not a goddamn solution. The issue is little shitbag children and their failures of parents.

The paper is probably going to be more advantageous but you can always do personal projects and put it in a port folio. If they only want a paper resume Just link to the cite that will have your projects on display

Portfolios faggot.

I've learned more stuff on the internet than I've learned in all my years of School.

Well, on one hand, it's true that playing GSGs taught me more about history and geography than all my time at school, since it was a fun way to spend several thousand hours. I can't see how fucking minecraft will teach anyone anything new past the age of 6, however. Not to mention that while those GSGs did show where the various countries were roughly accurately, and the regions were where they should be,, they didn't say anything past that – you would still need to follow the game with a book telling you about what was actually happening in all those countries.

...

I remember playing games when I was a child to learn things; i
t's something that worked for me while I was a child.

>UK has a guy describes as government behavior tsar
It really is a living Orwellian nightmare over there isn't it.

...

But they don't care about education.
Gamification is a tool to indoctrinate people more efficiently.
This is the core of gamergate.

So are you trying to imply someone who goes outside during summer has a chance of becoming a retard?
Melanin has nothing to do with fucking school grades, how do you even connect those two together?

statistics say otherwise

Melanin, not melatonin.

The fuck does melanin have to do with learning?

Makes you a nigger.

im so glad were above that kind of shit on Holla Forums. talking about video games is the best and it would horrible if that were to be discouraged constantly

It's not even about the budgets.
The problems are
*except lawyer, engineer, doctor, IT specialist and salesmen pretty much all fields are dead

They should just allow teachers to kick out unruly students instantly and failing several exams means failing school entirely.
Then raise the bar and mark exams anonymously and objectively.

Gaming has nothing to do with education.
No.

that is a big chest

I learned english by playing online games, reading /tg/ books in english and watching american media.

But sadly as I never had to study the language, so I make a lot of errors writing and talking.

Yeah, people in this thread that say otherwise are dumbasses, probably old people or people who imagine kids are playing GTA in class.
The vidya they're playing are the learning vidya kids play. Shit like Cluefinders.

...

...

can't even remember what the fuck i learned tbh.

Those are the kinds of things your father should have taught you really. That's part of the problem, the schools suck but the parents don't make much of an effort to teach things to their children any more either.

...

Real talk here, the only thing school has taught me is how to pick and choose how to deal with people and how some teachers just have no fucking idea what they are doing.
Yes this includes college.
There were some life lessons along the way, but fuck, the second hand skills and knowledge helped more.

...

You know, I can't tell if the deadpan and seemingly advocative delivery of this information is meant to horrify the viewer by contrasting with the severely ugly imagery, or if it's just the documentary makers being exceptionally malevolent ((people)).

...

I hate retards who spout shit like this because school/parental cooperation instills discipline in most people. Though I still have to agree because to this fucking day I can't remember a single thing high school has helped me with, even my shit SAT scores haven't affected the jobs/further education I've wanted. It was a complete waste of four years and I didn't even spend most of it being social, because the people were so braindead.

It's propaganda masked as academia.

WHY THE FUCK CAN'T YOU JUST BORROW FROM THE TENS!

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

But if so, why the open admittance of secret meetings toward the ends of soft mind control? The algorithmic dissection of the human mind, a psychological vivisection on the scale of the entire species? The artsy bullshit delivery of pages of data, followed by pages of hackneyed concentration camp photos? Why openly admit to a need to destroy humanity's admitted higher and inherent nature by drowning him in vulgarity? Why the brain surgery, adding even further shock? Why the fuzzy filters? Why the dying lights? Why the images of inhuman looking Jews? Why the sterile, mechanized imagery? Why the flat reference to re-education, and further towards self re-education following? Why outright state that there is going to be a manufacture of NEW MEN, 'made to measure,' implicitly to be rootless and servile seeing as there will be no more borders, only economics? It's so unsubversively transparent that I can't see it accomplishing anything other than horrifying the viewer and turning them against the imagery and ideology rather than towards it. A half-dozen 'holocaust' slides do not outweigh the proposal of the lobotimization of the whole of humankind. It just doesn't make sense.

I'm from the UK let me tell you a story
>we did previously with another teacher do python and I did enjoy that for the most part because at the end it reveals everything you've done till then actually made a calculator
code.org/minecraft
^ It's this pile of cancer
I didn't go to a fucking college to play some shitty scratch made minecraft mini game that lets me pretend I'm coding, I have a copy of RPG maker VX ace at hope to do that shit

Of course

Subtraction is too hard for certain people, so the turned subtraction into addition.

I'm pretty sure I learned more about world history and geography because of EU4 than I did at school.

>code.org/

You might try to tell the teacher of that course about the MIT App Inventor ( appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ ). It uses the same silly Blockly language as the hour of code bs, but it at least allows you to make usable Android apps and games.

this was years ago my dude, I've left college now but that year of having weekly sit ins of that trash that I paid for left a massive taste in my mouth.

Thanks for the site m8.

Eh. Fuck you. Who are you to say what is most effective and what isn't? Don't you know there are different learning styles? I don't know why it's a problem as long as the kids are keeping their grades up or whatever.

On the other hand, I don't know how the game is being used, so maybe it is horribly inefficient when there is some other method that can be used that will help students develop their comprehension much faster.

I say, use whatever works, and don't be afraid to try a variety of different learning methods. Ultimately, public education is shit, so it's not like it matters. It's every person's individual responsibility to educate themselves.

...

...

A gimmick is only fine when taught to an individual like that, when a school brings in a bunch of gimmicks to try and teach it's little shit of a class it shows that they aren't willing to teach a class properly.

I've never been in a class that I've seen a gimmick that actually teaches me the subject that it's meant to represent and most of the time it's only there because they can't / don't want to invest in the resources and effort to teach it correctly.

kek, I made my baby thesis on gamification. I feel like this will probably come to bite me in the ass some day.

See, now that's inappropriate. Minecraft for kids? Yeah, sure, why the hell not. Adults, though, should have the mental capacity to grasp new concepts quickly enough and without any assistance, aside from the obvious exception of the mentally handicapped. Code.org is especially coddling, so as an adult I'd be insulted. It too patronizing to be taken seriously.
Like I said before, it just depends on the efficiency of the gimmick being used. Also, I'm an advocate for less restriction in the classroom. Every person is going to have a different approach when it comes to teaching, and teachers should be free to experiment with methods that they find comfortable. Forcing teachers to conform to these hastily shit out and homogenized lesson plans only diminishes the potential said teachers have to connect with their students.

Isn't that the fucking point?

Because nogs can't into base10 math.

Video games are pointless to teach kids

I learned English by reading translated hentai and then porn videos. Same happened with Spanish (fucking hot translations in Spanish btw). Then I learned programming and webdesign by working on a porn game.

Just get kids into porn at 10 years old and they'll be fucking geniuses

...

You can thank Prussia.
Think about it next time you jerk off over muh kaiser while lamenting the cucked education system.

...

This assumes that kids are literal retards who don't understand what subtraction is just from using practical methods of solving math problems. They're response is to promote the childs inference by attempting to break it down mentally

Thats okay and all, but what the fuck happens when the child is an adult and needs to solve math problems practically? The so-called "Old Way" was like this for a fucking reason, because it was practical. You aren't going to draw out massive fucking numberlines just to do basic subtraction in the real world.

And going back to where I started from, this was the entire fucking point of teaching kids mental math in the first fucking place.

You know what pisses me off the most about this? This is just post-modernist attempt at education reform #383938. The reason this is actually gaining ground, and the only reason at that, is because they gave it a good PR name "Common Core" instead of calling it "Education Reform" again. Nothing but twisted sociological post-modern bullshit is what this is

When will commie cucks realize the reason for education isn't for performing in school?

Why are so many fucking people saying drain the swamp

You are now since U.S. education is being dumbed down for the flood of 3rd worlders whose neurological differences render them less-capable of memorizing useful shortcuts that have made mathematics more efficient for centuries.

Look at them gooks wreck whitey.

He's talking about melanin, not melatonin.
And statistics say otherwise.
He's talking about darkies, retard

Someone buy this faggot a thesaurus.

Hey, atleast we're not really gamified like plebbit.

Just call 'em niggers! Call 'em niggers!

How long do we have to wait until Hiroyuki gamify 4chan?

As a teacher in training somebody please kill minecraft

dude dinosors have been exstink for hundreds of years you can't just but them at the store
