We have an IRC channel on irc.rizon.net, #2hu8ch which is mainly for tech support and occasionally chatter for games that lack an in-game chat system. It's largely dead because we mostly use the thread for communication.
General discussion of Touhou gameplay is allowed and encouraged, though the main focus is organizing netplay matches.

To anyone who wasn't in the IRC - next time I'm gonna host is gonna be on friday night. Generally, on weekends there's lots of people, so it's gonna be fun.
Oh, and if you're not familiar with Age of Ethanols, play a couple of games against bots and try to expand to midfield as hard as you can as opposed to just cheesing the AI with walls and blues/books while building an army - versus games are very often decided mid-game when your opponent expands to your borders and fucks your shit up completely.
We use jap version for online play because it fixes certain balance issues. It requires jap locale and jap time/date format. You can use the english version for practice and it's offline campaign is pretty much an extended tutorial on how to do shit.
So, to summarize, git gud and see you next weekend.

Did a game where I beat the AI on Normal. The trick is to make circles near their base and build up. I chose Soku for their strong green units and catfish. The enemy will attack, but the TC will be able to handle them for a long time. It just has to be repaired. One trick is to make a unit leave the TC. This will make the enemy chase them around. Around the time the AI is about to go to hard, destroy their TC. Once that is done, go around destroying everything in site. A bit of time was spent finding and destroying stragglers, but it was easy overall. The biggest problem was letting too many fairies die to enemy raids. It would be better to keep them away from the TC. The enemy, unless chasing, can only move between the two bases, so it will never find fairies outside of that range.

You were about to have enough points to tick L but then you upgraded Shou. Points are used for upgrading hero units and spamming special skills from your heroes. You get them by building, creating units, and you get more from losing or killing units.

There's no particular reason why it got so popular. Some people just get lucky and have their products or whatever they've made blow up in popularity by random chance. I look at them like memes, they happens inexplicably and for no reason and a ton of people jump on the hype train.
Just look at Pokemon Go or Flappy Bird. Though the Touhou games are definitely of higher production value than those and the amount of fan-created related content is on a more crazy scale than those.

Iamp is sort of more like a conventional fighter and is fine if you aren't Meiling. Soku is most popular with random elements. ULiL is the furthest from a traditional fighter with no "ground" and instead neutral position is flying in the sky. Think of it as being able to jump up or down.

Can't just do that, AoE+ has so many changes concerning unit costs, health, damage and behaviour values comparing to the english version that it would end up with plenty of errors. That was something else. Map control was split in half and it was very back and forth. There were many times I thought it was the end of us.
No we weren't. Well Ayaya was but i barely scraped by to help out. I din't even fully upgrade my blues because i lacked faith, despite sitting on 3 faith shrines through the entire match which i ignored for a ridiculous amount of time after reaching L.
Though we were on the lead in points through most of the match, until we ran out of wood, then it all went downhill as the waves of greens+blues crushed our reds. In retrospective i really should have expanded west of my base with at least enough to defend it from a small sized army. It wasn't a good flank to have, specially when it was a literal beeline for my circles with only a single wall as the only defensive measure.
Maybe we should turn on timers or point limits next time, that felt like two and a half hours of pure madness.

Well, Ayaya was playing better than you, yes, but you still managed to get a couple of good hits in, you weren't useless, you were about as useful than me in that game. Your biggest mistake was forgetting about faith and not making books, we won because we didn't run out of wood and we actually attacked with things that destroyed buildings. Whenever we attacked you, End would flank me and drive all my attention plus some of Aya's to his assault, usually netting you enough time to outmicro and take out our combined forces. I din't use a single book outside of black books because i'm used to be able to deal with armies, even book armies, with just regular units. I really should have used red books at least on my assault to End at the middle of that match, it would have marked the difference between just taking out 3-4 blue circles and diverting all your forces to defend to something that would have won us the game for sure.

I neglected faith too. It prevented me from making white books and Erin. I should have also reinforced the wall on my western side. I did get to make a lot of books early on but I didn't pay much attention to the center shrines and didn't want to commit workers. Deforestation is a big factor in the late game. It has to be accounted for. I like long games like these. A timer is better for when someone has to leave.

Yes, we have. Also later we tried netplay with super nintendo emulation and that still didn't work. Both of us turned off our firewalls to make sure that that wasn't what was keeping us from connecting, but no matter what we do, nothing works on any game or program.

Did you port foward? You need to foward the port through the router you're using to let it connect. You gotta foward to the specific computer that's hosting too, if there are more in the router's network, which is an option in most routers. You guys made sure to use the hamachi's VPN IPs? It's a different IP from your normal external IP, which is what lets you connect through as if it were a LAN connection. Eitherway, try using another port as 00000 isn't exactly friendly for hosting games.

I think the main reason you lost was because you weren't beating out Suika's fast balls with your overwhelming projectiles. She was just grazing through yours lasers so the best time to use a laser is a little closer to the opponent. They'll try to melee and eat a laser.

We used to play the original KF a lot, but I haven't seen most of the regular players online for quite a while now. If there's a few people who want to play it, I can host for them.
When we play KF it's usually without mods, but if you want to you can always just add mutators to make it interesting. In UT we did use mods a bunch of times though. If you were to add mods the way you setup a server shouldn't be any different from setting up a server without them I think
