For all the flak that Halo 1 gets, I think it was a good (not great) game that unfortunately started a lot of trends that other developers took too far.

I can understand shitty devs copying the mechanics and getting the implementation wrong, but that all the sequels to these games made the same mistakes but worse makes me feel a bit more hopeless.
