Have you played any singleplayer games with a clear goal/ending reccently? I have been playing soul blazer. Kinda like a link to the past, but with more focus on combat. A good deal of hidden stuff and how you can go back to uncover new things later is always fun. Been playing on my phone which gives me a bit of a problem controling every once in a while, but the game is forgiving enough that I haven't had any problems so far.

Terranigma kind of bored me. It definitely has the most varied fight system though.
I think my favorite was Illusion of Gaia/Time.

Chapter 2 in Terranigma is pretty boring, especially the part where you have to escort that lion cub. The game doesn't really come to life until chapter 3, but it's one wild ride when it does.

Something like pic related will solve your problem.

Other games in the same vein are Crusader of Centy and Beyond Oasis.
