How about the portraits? The ones I've seen from a game play video are just awful. I don't know why they chose to make it different from npc portraits either. You get a static picture but everyone else gets a shitty screenshot but they can emote at least.

I guess they wanted to make a game about being a villain after the Big Bad Evil won. Probably though that was such an easy task they couldn't possibly fail at it.

Having the player serve any of those or even being any of those when the whole thing is tied to Bioware means you'll either be a powerless mook doing the bidding of someone that doesn't even make sense or you'll be an idiot following the orders of someone even more stupid than you.

The gameplay probably follows all the cliches too and nobody cares much about it anyway. It ain't like Bioware ever gives a shit about interesting gameplay, as long as they get to tell you their shitty story.

When you look at it, Bioware is mostly just fanfic writters that attach some lack luster "RPG" gameplay to their games so they can host it outside of slashfic sites.

I always heard this game associated with Dragon Age Inqusition, as if it happened in the same world or something, that's why I made the connection with Bioware.

You'd still be able to get your reputation high again with them but it would take considerable effort due to your previous choice.

What an RPG SHOULD NOT let you do is tell the local KKK "Give me a flamethrower, we all know fur burns well" and then head to Furcadia without anyone reacting to it while you tell the FURhrer "that was just a joke, we pals now?" and everything goes back to normal.

If nobody reacts and nothing happens with your choices or if consequences are opted in and out at the flip of a button, why bother have them to begin with? If your allegiance changes as fast as you swap armor, might as well not have it.

How hard is it to have random furries scurrying about in a city, being fursecuted with you having the option to protect and escort them outside for a small gain of reputation?

It would be roleplaying the idea that you officialy hate them to keep up appearances but you'll prove to them that you actually are sympathetic. But instead of doing it with words, you do it with actions.

Ideally, every reputation would be tracked by faction and changes would only occur if that faction got wind of your actions, so if you manage to kill everyone hunting the furries, they'd escape and mention you raising your reputation with them but your faction's reputation wouldn't tank as they'd not know what happened.

In fact, you know what faggot? There's already a game that did that. A ninja game for the PS2 where you work for 3 different factions, with reputation with each of them that only changes if a guard that saw you doing bad shit survives the mission.

First playthroughs are always a bit fucky since you don't know the world that well or the though process behind the dev decisions or even what you can or can't do in that world.

Well, the skill checks aren't really hidden, it's just that in your first playthrough you never know the worth of the skills you pick up and you'll be fucked because the margin you have to spread your skill points is much shorter than in other RPGs.
This is countered by knowing the game properly, at which point any build becomes valid but that's pretty much saying that your first playtrough is basically a long drawn out tutorial about how the game works and only the second one is you actually playing the game.

I have no idea why devs do that or why people defend and think this is good game design. Even roguelikes, infamous for the amount of bullshit RNG they throw at it, are often made in a way that makes it clear what mistake did you make that resulted in your dead.
Most roguelikes you can even win on your very first playthrough if you read all the information given to you, whereas in Age of Decadence, you'll get at most to 1/4 of the game and realize all options now require a skill you don't have or combat with subpar stats and equipment.

I never completed Planescape : Torment so I can't say much about that unfortunately, I have to redo it come winter break

The game itself can be summed up as Not-Pillars-Of-Eternity / 10 if that helps. The combat is more of the same but definitely made easier / less convoluted / Doesn't feel like Sawyer had a hand in it would. Best way to describe it really. Friendly Fire is automatically turned off and there's no way to enable it I believe, magic is still the strongest shit in the game by far, and overall it feels pretty easy on Medium if you can stop the AI from dekking the geek. Story is entertaining and engaging enough but it drops the ball hard, especially in the third act, as well as being relatively short. I clocked about . . . 12-14 hours on my successful play-through but both of those could be attributed to the path itself.

Honestly the greatest bit about it is the magic system itself. You can choose a Core (Ice, Fire, Heal, etc etc), choose an Expression (Short-Range, Long Range, AOE, Cone, etc) and numerous Accents (Increased Power, increased AOE, Increased Range, adding blood magic to it, etc etc). Everything related to that is tied to the Lore skill - as in - each piece requires a certain lore to be able to use the spell and the more pieces you tack on the higher the lore requirement to be able to cast it. Around the start of Act 2 even my designated tank was smart enough to cast the simplest healing spell which pretty much healed for some 30% of a targets total health.

Gifted and quite frankly I enjoyed my time with it. Shows Obsidian isn't completely shit after the disaster that POE was but it still needs a lot of work. I'd honestly recommend it if it went on sale but as it stands, Age of Decadence is still better in certain regards.

The devs are probably shitty enough at writing to not understand the significance of owning land. Land has crops, land has lumber, land has minerals, animals, freshwater, and enough space for each individual to live in. Considering that California gets a fuckton of water from the rest of the US, they probably figure that men get to live equally or on easy mode if they get to own ships IRL. All boats require materials gathered, processed, and assembled from and on the land, and no ship is capable of sustaining its crew and itself forever without sailing to a port. Furthermore it would be difficult to create any seacraft large enough to hold significant political or economical sway against landowners. Men can only be considered equal in that the seas are simply their setting's mancave of sorts.

Furthermore, the men could just get their boats and fucking leave the region. They could sail till they find new land, or construct a Mother Base large enough to function as a substitute for land. The women must either be too powerful to allow them to simply leave, or their pussy game is too ridiculous to abandon.

The game is an absolute mess with potential. The liberal lean is the reason for the majority of its bad writing. There are pockets of strong writing, like when you do the quest with the daughter of the disfavored, but the "women can do man things" shit gets old, even if they TRY(and fail) to be mostly subtle about it.

I hate that I like these types of games, because it seems only liberals are left making them… At least high production value ones.

Okay, made it through a game, fuck everyone route. Ending was abrupt, "expect DLC/expansion" tier.
The game consists of 3 chapters, 1st is git to da tower which leads to 4 (red, blue, rebel, fuckall) routes, 2nd which uses the same maps but different shit for different routes and 3rd which is last man standing and was so short I thought it was a prelude for next chapter but it was actually last.
Overall the game is a huge improvement over Pillars of Eternity which was ultrabland shit. They allowed to buff before combat wew, non-heavy armor is now useful, you can speed up the game, overall the combat is more fun and game has quite a few different options in dialogues, text also has color coding with references to encyclopedia entries. The bad part are level scaled enemies so "enemy npc 1" at the start of the game will be much weaker than "enemy npc 1" at the end of the game. though now, unlike PoE, there can be both hard and easy encounters so no more huge packs of gay dragons in the middle of the forest.

That gender bullshit is a bit overblown here thank SJW, but it's not really that bad in Tranny. I didn't like shit with female being first and left choice during the character creation, yea, lets move away from the norm because "muh equality" by putting female first, change like that is totally not sexist! Almost all important/good(quality) NPCs are male and the game has good moments - you can kick queen bitch off the tower totally-not-sparta style, you can kill a mother and strangle her baby with a pillow or order your party member to do so, punch females and overall the game is prime example of equality, with shit that feminists want and don't like. As for party members, the most useful are the old guy with so much Lore that he can cast nuclear-tier magic, an iron-balls tank and a loli, all the "strong wymen" are shit.
Chargen portraits suck, female ones lips are fucking ugly, and who was the genius to add weapons to portraits where you choose for look but buttfucked because wrong weapons especially with such great "diversity". Just use your own, I made a Phoenix Wright because fucking lawbringer.

Overall the game is at least worth a pirate though it might be worth slacking until DLC/expansion for the end or Tranny 2 comes out.

Scarlet Chorus loves captives and had spies there, everyone who flees is a conscript. Actually SC is really nice and effective faction and Disfavored aren't good guys either, more like lawful stubborn. You can even choose to join rebellion if you trigger some flags but muh freedums isn't fun.

Factions are quite consistent at least from the point where I was killing all of them, you simply think that Disfavored are good lawful type when their only interest is themselves, they were probably inspired by both "the evul whitenortherner supremacy nazis" and paladin stereotypes. Being conscripted into Tranny Imperial Guard isn't really better, for most it's just a delayed death sentence for others it's free ticket to murder+rape+pillage.

Overall, magic seemed overpowered. Even though I liked Power tree, I got like 5 skills which were good against single target but that shit can't compete against mage with 9 spell slots geezer with 8-14 hit 4-5m AoE spells with DoTs and debuffs, and if that isn't enough you can just put Scales of Mercy for 100% crit after first AoE. Lore is mandatory for every character, free 50-60% non-crit deflection, haste that turns heavy into light armor recovery-wise and a bunch of weapon buffs that turn 1/s Unarmed hits with Scales of Mercy into disco party.

My friend told me it's alright, but feels noticeably unfinished. Another complained that the first four hours were almost exclusively walls of text. Usually I have a bunch of friends who buy these games; it's just the two this time. It doesn't really sound like this game is worth a pirate even.

It was way too sadistic and trial and error based to really feel like a true RPG in my opinion.
For exemple you couldn't hire bodyguards with the merchant because the dev didn't want you to roleplay the game the way he didn't want you to.

Unless you go for the pure combat route, the game expects you to avoid the actual gameplay, maybe out shame how boring it is, and turns into a low quality visual novel. And then the writing is bad even on grammatical level. It's better than many other cRPGs, but that doesn't say much. It's not too long though, so it's worth a try. Maybe the illusion of choice makes your first playthrough into a fun one.

I actually replayed the game with a lore guy in a vain attempt to find where to good was and experienced all the endings. Luckily that didn't take very long so not much of my time was wasted.

Secret character build. They think you can only get the secret ending with a Loremaster but I can do it with a Praetor and be arena champion and do all the challenge fights.
