play all of them

originals?
plat, emerald, HG/SS, and B2W2
gen 6 and 7 are shit so avoid them

That's false, there are no bad Pokemon games

Good:
Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Fire Red, Diamond, Heart Gold, X.

Bad:
White, White2, Omega Ruby, Sun.

Replace Diamond for Platinum.

How are HG/SS different from the earlier ones?

...

Emerald, Platinum, or the first versions of Black/White. Skip X/Y and remakes in my opinion. And don't be like those people that fast forward through the games, at that point you may as well just not even play them.

Gen 2 remakes, gen 1 remakes, or Gen 3

You can play FR/LG and HG/SS alone if you don't want Crystal and Yellow.
I just think there's a kind of magic in the older games.

Worst games in the series by far so far. Alola will take the spot soon.

3rd Gen (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) - Is a nice change from Gold/Silver and introduces you to Abilities rather slowly so you can get a grasp of them. It also introduces you to Double Battles which, although are rare, are refreshing from time to time

3rd Gen (FR/LG) - If you like to keep in your comfort zone then they aren't too offensive and they added in the Sevii islands so it doesn't feel like a complete retread over first gen.

4th Gen (Platinum) - Throws you in a little in the deep end but the new evolutions to older pokemon gives some of those cherished 'mons from Gen 1 and 2 a new breath of life into them.

4th Gen (HG/SS) - Outside of changes to legendary pokemon, there's not much that's changed from G/S to HG/SS, however, it does have an odd charm about it which a lot of people like.

5th Gen (B/W) - Throwing in right in the deep end as none of the new pokemon are the same and a large chunk of the new pokemon's stats and abilities are very streamlined meaning that getting a team that can complete tear through the opponent does make the game seem easy, however, you are also open to being torn through it. It's personally my favorite because of how the new pokemon are and how they work in conjunction with each other.

5th Gen (B2/W2) - Jumping straight into B2/W2 might leave a huge hole in terms of plot, however, as for gameplay, B2/W2 adds a lot that was needed into the first game, allowing players to get the hidden abilities of pokemon, the return of some of the older pokemon as well as a Hard and Easy mode (You'd need to emulate to access these two modes though). The Post-Game is easily the strongest in Pokemon history.

6th Gen (X/Y) - Slow pace and thinks of you as a retard but doesn't require too much from the player, if you've missed out on previous Gens then it's not a hard one to get into since it gets reintroduced to you in a slow manor, full of memes though so take that as you will

6th Gen (OR/AS) - Without playing 3rd gen there's really no reason to.

7th Gen (Sun/Moon) - From what I've seen it's like X and Y but doesn't think of you as a retard quite to the extent of X and Y, there's new alterations to Gen 1 pokemon which might make you think of older pokemon in a new light.

Wow, that's not Diamond and Pearl. Gen 5 was by far the best in the series.

The ones with the best Content are Platinum, Emerald and BW2.

If you want to visit a specific region:

Kanto: Play the remakes, FireRed/LeafGrean. There is no need to touch the original except for the sake of nostalgia.

Johto: Again, Play the remakes, HeartGold and Soul Silver.

Hoenn: Play Emerald, it has the vastly superior to ORAS and it has far more content

Sinnoh: Platinum, it solves of the issues that D/P had and it is considered one of the best games.

Unova: You should note that BW2 is a direct sequel of BW and it doesn't follow the same story. Feel free to just play BW2 thought, the story is complex, for a Pokémon game that is, so don't come expecting a Shakespearian level of writing. BW2 gives a lot content and it has the better post game content so far

Kalos: XY is your only choice. It is not that it sucks at a core level. It is the incredible lack of content in comparison to its predecessors.

I have yet to touch Gen7.

Those are some really helpful answers, thanks a bunch anons.

porn.
lots of porn.
there's so much poke porn.

Do not renegade the older games.

...

Emerald and FRLG are good places to start. They're easy to emulate, familiar enough to anyone from the older games and introduce the new mechanics pretty well.
5 is also a good place to start, if you want to drop all nostalgia. It doesn't give you any old pokemon until you beat the game, so you have to use what you're given and gen 5's pokemon quality is roughly the same as gen 1. Just remember to get Black/Black2 instead of White/White2, because Black has an unlockable hard mode while white has an unlockable easy mode.
If you've got a hardon for the first games gen 6 is full of nostalgia wankery. You get a gen 1 starter, Lapras is given to you and they've added a mode that lets your pokemon go super Saiyin. It's not bad, although the framerate is shit. Fairy type is pretty cool

Also note that with all the new pokemon you can make a monotype team with every type. Gen 2 only had 2 fully evolved Ghost and Dragon types, but the later games fixed that. Try a monotype run if you want some fun.
Just pick a gen and jump in. Mainline Pokemon games are all good, and you're better off forming your own opinions.

should i play ss after emerald and frlg?

guess i wont start with emerald

...

Explorers of Sky and Super Mystery dungeon if you're looking into the side games

This emerald: mega.nz/#!kwM3SRCS!HPQCIRAZvyyF7nP9ibvfhn4pmrpg_smchQLrLHm-xJo

Sun & Moon is the best pokemon game though by far, let the genwunners whine as always

Just play pokemon ranger guardian signs and pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of the sky
Don't fall for the autistic main series titles and go play a decent turned based RPG

My god, you're a fucking special kind of retard

s-sorry ;_;
all the other roms work fine just emerald doesn't

I see you haven't played games from gen 6 then.

Sounds like a good idea but if you're buying a cart shop around. For some reason HGSS and Platinum are expensive as fuck physical.
You'll want a cart if you want to transfer pokemon up to gen 5, otherwise it isn't that important.

And if you're emulating gen 3 turn on Real Time Clock and turn the save type to 128k Flash. You need time functions for the tidal cave, and some emulators shit themselves with the wrong save type
Alternatively try No$GBA. It's old, but reliable

That guy is retarded but I guess you tqke the cake too

Remove yourself.

Are you retarded?

Red/Blue Rescue team aren't bad either. I liked them better than Explorers of Darkness, haven't tried Sky. SMD is also supposed to be really good but I haven't tried it yet either.

Nice bait.

OP, go play Pokemon Quartz. It's a romhack of Ruby that changes everything except for the order of the routes basically. It's shitty, bad English and awful designs, but it's still fun to play and a bit harder than Ruby.

mGBA is at version 0.5.1. No$GBA is at version 2.8d. Therefore No$GBA is at least 4 times better.

Holy shit, we've found the master of bait.

You. I like you.

Emerald is the best I've played, though I never played 5th or 6th gen.

Sootopolis theme for best theme.

Or you could try the Topaz romhack which adds ugly looking custom Pokemon but it's a bit funny as you play as a team Rocket grunt.

...

Should i play as boy or as girl?

Charm wasn't in Gen I, nerd.

...

play sun or moon, they are basically an improvement over the previous generations

Girl. Cute clothes options. I'm in thigh-highs and a miniskirt in game right now, but you can also get a halter top that resemble's Dawn's and denim shorts that look like Hilda's.

How does it feel to have such shit taste? Does it hurt?

are clothes really a thing? which game started it?

are they that bad though? I figured they'd be like a better x and y

X and Y, since it took place in not-France.

They aren't bad, he's just shitposting

It really doesn't feel like a Pokemon game. I will admit not needing an HM slave is nice, but the entire map feels small, the lack of gyms is weird and doesn't seem particularly better, the new mons aren't really adding that much, and the forced railroading fucks up the single player experience. If you thought X and Y were bad about forcing you into story, this is way worse.

Mechanically, if you just look at the battles, it's fine. It's Pokemon. Z Moves are kinda dumb, the animations take too long and you can't skip em, but there's nothing inherent that makes it worse on the battle side. It's everything else that feels kinda uninspired and bland.

Nope. It's just not that great.

it just werks

lol

X/Y started it and ended it, because typical Gamefreak "one game only features". Too bad, hair styling and rollerskates were godly additions. The closest thing in the other games is in generation 4 and 5 where you can choose a trainer class for certain things. Lass is the best choice.

Also XY needs a panties hack like ORAS got cowtits. Skirt voids can go to hell.

Ho ho ho.

People here are a bunch of retards.
You know how to make X/Y become one of the best games in the franchise? Turn off the Exp. Share and actually try to make a team of 6 pokemons - you'll easily see how challenging the game becomes.

You're a ultra-retard. use VBA-M, for god's sake.
emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Game_Boy_Advance_emulators

This is VBA-M's best version, btw:
emucr.com/2015/06/visualboyadvance-m-svn-r1507.html

What makes that particular version better than the rest?

The last version using the old interface.

Sun and Moon have clothing customization. I'm playing as a hatless cute girl right now.

Emerald to continue the story

Skip gen 4 entirely, every fucking animation takes literally 5 times as long as any other game to preform and it's so killer, video related is a simulation of just waiting for health to drop after the attack.
you could have probobly coded the entire game in the time frame you wait for anything in that game.

Gen 5 if you only want new mons and start fresh
Gen 5 - 2 if you want the largest variety

Gen 6 is really easy, play if you want.

Not played sun or moon

I haven't been paying attention to that game but if it actually brought the feature back that's enough to make me give it a go.

Don't forget to play it on an N3DS with CFW so it's not playing like a slideshow. Their coding is truly pathetic.

Is it just one user posting the same image every time someone says gen 2 is good? Because if it is, that's pretty fucking autistic, even for a pokemon fan.
2>3>5>4>7>1>6

Nigga you re saying the game is hard but with your "solution" it's only a harder grind that is all

No, you'll actually have to use strategy to win.

There was one point during B2W2 where I had to use strategy to win against Elesa, as her mons were way more powerful then anyone in the area, but the Roggenrolas had Smackdown, which killed their only strength, their dual type of Flying/Electric, and they are left alive because of Sturdy, so you can switch out for a ground mon and fucking wipe them.

Elesa required strategy, not grinding, and you can do the same to every gym leader without grinding levels.

Gen 1's strategy options tended to be "catch x pokemon nearby and use it"
Catch a Mankey before Brock.
Catch a Pikachu to prepare for Misty.
Catch diglett or Dugtrio before LT.Surge

I didn't do the same thing with X and Y and regretted it, but there were dozens of options and type advantages you could catch and cycle in your party.

in XY, you can catch a Golett before the fighting gym and null out her attacks, you can catch a Pinser or Heracross (or a Venipede WAAAAAY back near the mansion which is one of the best bug types you can get honestly) before the grass gym etc.

You are a tryhard manchild.
Pokemon games are for kids and there is no need to overthink shit this much.

I can beat you in a match in a kid's game with a 100 percent win rate.

Don't even feel like going back to emerald now, help!
