The Sonic and Shadow levels were the only good levels, treasure hunting is far worse here than it was in SA1, and introduced one of the characters that would kill the already shitty fanbase, Shadow the hedgehog.

The Advance and Rush games aren't "classic 2d Sanic." The level design doesn't even nearly hit the mark. I don't get how people shit on Sonic 4 Episode II (Episode I was legitimately shitty) but act like Advance and Rush did it right. Advance and Rush are more like "Modern Sonic" in 2D than they are like Classic Sonic. Meanwhile, Adventure-era Sonic is more like Classic Sonic in 3D than the then-current Advance and Rush games.

I don't get why the radar was gimped, but the level design, for all characters including Knuckles, was much, much better than the previous game. I think in the case of the Knuckles levels it more than makes up for the radar.

And the Sonic fanbase was always bad. The SatAM and Archie faggots were doing the shit they are known for since the '90s.

It's pretty good, but I still think that Sonic 2 standard boss music is the most badass Robotnik theme to date.

The music makes up for it.

But Shadow only has a significant story in two other games, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic '06. And despite how funny it seems at first glance, what with the motorcycles and guns, Shadow's story is about him learning to stop being such an emo bitch. Then in '06 he's just a smooth secret agent, Rouge's partner.

Characterization, and the story in general, went to shit after Unleashed, when they deliberately started trying to not have a story. Unleashed had less plot but more characterization.

Sonic Mania looks to be fun, but is there anything that'd save the 3D formula?
BOOSTBOOSTBOOST is OK for short segments of levels, and if you're switching to 2D segments, why not make the whole game 2D?

Would any other character modes be even needed, or should they be their own afair- to ensure they're actually focused on and fun? (assuming they could support their own game)
