Because people now a days with the Internet and current events are starting to see Capitalism's flaws, but society still recovering from the effects of McCarthyism, the effects of the cold war, lack of education, and the effects of Soviet Union are to afraid of anything that happens to be vaguely Marxist. So people who are trying to make since of what's going on start turning to people like Alex Jones, Mark Dice, Alan Watt etc… Then because people like Alex Jones dismiss those who are critical as disinformation spreaders and sheeple the people who follow these conspiracy theorist get trapped because anybody who questions them is malicious or stupid according to their world view. Thus making it hard to convince them out of it and making those who hold such conspiracy theories cut themselves off from anything that doesn't agree with them.

You might be able to do that with some of them, but there are a good amount of them are too wrapped up in conspiracy theory to change. Honestly I think if I was you I would target people such as Liberals who are dissatisfied with the establishment and Lolberts who are not conspiracy theorist because in my experience they tend to be more willing to change their mind and there are more of them out there than conspiracy theorist. One thing to keep in mind is that the Internet makes it look like that there are more conspiracy theorist than there are in real life. While I think that conspiracy theorist are a legitimate threat to both the left and society in general I think it would be much more productive to focus on preventing such ideas from spreading through spreading information to sway those who are not into conspiracy theories away from conspiracy theories then to fight those who are already on the fringe.

I knew plenty of young working-class friends who became very convinced by their ideology during that period of time, because they offered pretty simple explanations of why our society is shitty : Illuminatis, Jews, etc.

I don't really know how they became so influential suddenly, but maybe it has something to do with the extreme shunning by the medias of the initially anti-Zionist ideas of Dieudonné a decade ago. And slowly but surely, their shit spread everywhere on the internet.
