Has anyone used both a Gear VR and Vive? I want a VR headset mainly for porn, but if the Vive looks a lot better then I might as well get one for games as well.

I shiggy diggy

Even if a headset with better screens is released who's going to make VR porn for it?

The Vive works well enough for this purpose and Monster Girl Island looks great. I wouldn't waste a grand on it but if it's VR porn you're after the Vive is currently your best bet since it does passive and interactive porn.

A phone with lenses you're stuck watching porn from a fixed POV of some guy having sex. And there isn't much selection either.

It depends what kind of porn you want.

Oh, I was talking about regular porn. Not really into anime girls.

user, have you seen the VR porn of 3DPD? You see EVERYTHING, for better, and for much worse.

Satan, how could you?

Also from a screen standpoint, the GearVR isn't terribly good. At least, I could never get the lenses fully focused, and the more focused they got, the worse the Screen Door Effect became. As a first dip into VR tech, it's neat. I wouldn't want to use it all the time, though. It also makes the phone drain battery like mad and makes it heat up quick.

If there were PC drivers yet, I'd say just get a PSVR headset, since that's okay. It's better than GearVR, but half the price of the Vive for an experience comparable to the Vive, in terms of immersion. It's also comfortable to wear for hours. I played BattleZone VR and RIGS for several hours wearing it. It's a nice headset.

Begone satan and take your shit taste with you.

Wait till next year. Rumor has it that HTC is focusing on optimizing production for Vive 2, hence it's going to be a lot cheaper or more profitable for them.

I've got an image of an user surrounded by his harem girls spinning round and round in his chair shooting his load all over his bedroom floor.

I don't even give a shit about modern games. I want to play through the GameCube library with this shit.

I didn't know Satan was a faggot

Furry is better.

This is literally the best VR device and it is half the price
No, fuck off.

Then wait for when a porn game actually gets made.

living the dream

I've used every headset
Gear VR makes me want to puke after a couple minutes.
the best one you can get now is the vive

...

This is a rumor I can believe, the cost of assembling them due to the sub millimeter placement of the lighthouse sensors must be very high. Allowing for laxer build tolerances and calibrating it in software could easily take $100-150 off the current price.

Doesn't the PSVR use a typical HDMI input? The OP wouldn't even need drivers.

Might as well lay back with them.

It's utter shit when it comes to the software. I really wish it wasn't as it's technically superior in some areas while cheaper but it is. Even the FLOSS community has abandoned it for the Vive.

They're making the OSVR for a specific audience and it's not the people that browse this board. It's for other companies that want VR in their amusement parks/museums or use with their product.

It does, and you can just straight hook into it. But the breakout box that comes with it also seems to control turning the tracking lights on and off, among other things, so unless you only want accelerometer tracking (which is always shit) it's not perfect.

For headtracking you need some SW, rudimentary support is already avaiable. Formatting the image for stereoscopic output also needs some SW. In other words: Buy or pirate TriDef, install some more SW that's in alpha stage at best tbh, you can play PC games with PSVR right now.
go to r/PSVRHack if you're interested

Some people have that issue. Not all.

The reduced FOV and even shittier resolution makes it a stupid idea.
You're better off waiting until resolution gets better, most games that benefit from HMD (like ARMA and simulators) require good resolution. While non of the big VR headset is quite there yet, the PSVR is one of the worst.

Still better than Rift and Vive once you factor in the difference between pentile and full RGB displays, but the difference isn't really big either way and even OSVR HDK2 still doesn't have high enough res for general use across all genres.

You have been lied to.s

Oh, you think Rift and Vive don't use shitty cheap pentile phone displays? It's in their official specs. They don't even hide it.

Nice one, Hitler. It's also quite a bit smaller resolution, it's just that the RGB setup reduces SDE better than the others. They are definitively higher resolution and coupled with the better performance from a PC, the experience is far better. That's not to say that PSVR isn't a viable alternative on PCs, it's just that it is worse resolution and the image quality may suffer for it some cases. Like 720p vs 1080p: They're both decent quality, but one will be better than the other. None are perfect yet.

That's nice. Call me when they fix it so that no one has that problem. Until then, I'll take a PSVR that I can walk into a store and buy and if shit doesn't work, you can walk back into the store and return it. Besides, having used PSVR, I can tell you that until we get extremely good screens in the $800 enthusiast tier HMDs, the $400 entry tier is what you should be going for, much like going for the mid-range/entry level graphics card is usually the best bet for anyone trying to build a gaming computer when it comes to price vs performance.

It's not only less SDE, it's also higher res in red and blue. You want to search virtual frogs in a sea of virtual grass? Rift, Vive and OSVR HDK2 have higher res here. You want to wander the surface of Mars, step through puddles of blood or spend a relaxing day at the ocean? PSVR and OSVR HDK2 have significantly higher res here. Not even against pentile per se, at much higher res it would become a sensible compromise. But that's rather in the 4k by 4k region and up, not at roughly 1k by 1k.

bump

Wasn't the PSVR supposed to be getting PC support?

Sony didn't rule out the option. Regardless if official support arrives later or not, homebrewed rudimentary support is already available and will only get better over time.
Is it good enough to consider buying it solely for PC now? Fuck no, but we'll get there sooner or later.

How does a FPS even work in VR?
Do you get the crosshair moving separately from the headset looking around?
If I tilt my head, does that affect the crosshair movement when I move my mouse left and right?

im afraid if i put that thing on it will zap me into the video game world. which sounds awesome but it wont be all its cracked out to be. itll be one of those stupid edutainment scare em straight parody video games

I had some experience with the Vives as well as the PSVR and older oculus ones like devkit 1 and 2.
The vive was certainly the best one of the bunch. But the PSVR was damn nice and had a better range of games when I first tried it (but there were several months between trying the vive and the PSVR). For both, the hardware seems to be there in terms of being acceptable. The software (games) however still has a lot of work to do. I also found the PSVR to be more as if you play a 3D game while the vive was closer to being dragged into the game world.

In the end, I liked both of them, the Vive was certainly better but the PSVR was pretty good as well. The oculus dev kits were pretty bad compared to PSVR and vive and you should never use any product from facebook, so fuck that headset.

Depends on the FPS, most seem to make aiming be where you are looking, which does work pretty well. For those headsets with waggling controllers, its pretty easy to make aiming independent of the view. I can't recall if I tried one where you aimed with the mouse. I doubt its great.

VR injectors for normal games usually map headtracker rotation data to mouse movements. Ever had two mice connected to your PC? Both move the same cursor but can be on different sensitivities. You could map the headtracker to low sensitivity for precision aiming and use the mouse on high sensitivity for general direction control or vice versa.

satan has absolute shit taste

So the crosshair would basically be in the middle of my vision regardless of mouse movement?
That's kinda weird, but I could maybe get used to that.

Mostly just wanna play Doom with VR.

Kind of, for those with motion controllers, not really, those without motion controllers tend to have quite a bit of aim assist and not show a crosshair. I just haven't tried a game before without either being tied to where you look or waggle controllers, so I can't say if it functions well or not.

That's just replacing the mouse with a headset and I really wish this cancerous bullshit would stop.
