There is really nothing holding back anyone from making a Metroidvania style game where you play a guy named Abdullah or something in a 14th century Arabia or Persia setting out to stop an evil sorcerer and a legion of ghouls & Ifrits by collecting holy relics and weapons which reference various things found in Islamic lore or popular beliefs.

That is there is nothing that holds people back other than worry about offending people or modern muslim developers themselves not having the talent or knowledge to create something like that which would feel both fun for the average consumer and yet authentic with lots of depth to the characters and settings.

I honestly dig Aladdin, Ali Baba, Sindbad, Scheherazade, old Arabic stuff. Crusades are a great setting. Genies and magic carpets are cool.
