So, I never played Shadowrun before. To be honest, I never even heard about the game prior to some months ago and just now got interested in it.

Should I play it on the SNES or Genesis? If there's any difference, of course.

I read about a 2007 version by jewsoft, is it good? Are the servers still alive?

Thank you in advance.

Just play Dragonfall.

But is Dragonfall a director's cut from Shadowrun: Returns or a remake from the original SNES/Genesis game?

DF's a fairly good opener and a decent crpg all around. drop the redditspacing before you shit up the thread beyond repair
Also check the catalog next time.

I only use leddit to find porn, but I will watchout the way I format the text, thank you for everything.

OK, no one's this polite on a imageboard. Newfag or otherwise.
You trying out /kind/ tier shitposting or something?

Dragonfall is an expansion for Returns

between Genesis and SNES versions, here's a short breakdown
Genesis: better matrix hacking (but it's kind of inscrutable without a manual), stat system better reflects the P&PRPG, kind of fast-paced combat that makes it way to easy to die, barebones story (you're looking to find out how your brother died. Do jbs on the way)
SNES: so-so matrix hacking, stat system is built on a most basic interpretation of the system), combat is…interesting (it'd be better with a mouse but the SNES mouse isn't supported. It's ultimately kind of a stand and shoot game), story is top-notch (the aftermath of a run gone bad), much better interaction than the genesis version (you can ask anyone about any topic you've learned as well as show them any item you've collected)

Just trying to be friends, man. I lurk here for some years now, I just never post because reasons.

Also, take into account that english is not my first language, so in school they teach us in that "mechanical" way.

I thought SNES and Genesis were the same game, just with two versions for each console with minor differences, like castlevania:symphony of the night with the PSO and the Saturn.

I will start with Dragonfall and move from there, since the download is already at 10%.

Dragonfall was shit tho.

(checked)

Well, shit. Godspeed I guess.

Not getting tips doesn't help your case

OP it depends on what sort of games you like.

SNES version is a very SNES game, combat is pretty simple, but it's a good adventure with lots of exploration and a neat story. The MC is a kinda generalist character who can do pretty much everything with no drawbacks and it is very rules light. There's a lot of hunting for keywords and keys to progress. Like I said, very SNES like.

Genesis version is good if you like PnP Shadowrun.

Dragonfall is an overwritten modern CRPG with XCOM style combat that pidgeonholes you into certain builds. Stealth doesn't work at all, the game is full of bugs, and since the encounters are basically scripted, half the time you will die in the first round on harder difficulties if you don't invest heavily into hp.

Had problems to get what PnP was. I will go with dragonfall first, it's 40% now, but I will definitely try the classic version after, probably going with the genesis first.

Thank you.

I'd love to fill your melodramatic pidgeonhole. And I'm saying that as someone who didn't have any problems finishing DF on hard with body 3

SNES version is a great game. Cool atmosphere, like that user above said it's really rules-light and isn't a very accurate representation of what the pnp rules are, but frankly you won't care because you don't know. It's got a good story, combat is simple, and it does a good job of showing you how the Shadowrun universe works, at least in same ways

Genesis version is more faithful to the pnp for better and for worse. It's a lot harder but there's more depth to it in virtually every aspect. Also looks and sounds worse but that's just opinion here. The one thing that the Genesis version has that makes it really stand out though is the Matrix; in Shadowrun everything is connected with a sort-of Internet called the Matrix and it's got its own combat rules, its own look, etc.

tl;dr they're both good but in different ways

SNES, and Gensis are pretty good.

The DC of Dragonfall, and Hong Kong are pretty good too. Dragonfall has the better story, while HK has the better characters, in my opinion.

Your char likely had very high dodge or was a support who stayed behind tanks. Also trauma kits. I didn't use them on principle because this improves hard difficulty a lot as opposed to flat enemy damage and HP bonuses on very hard.

FUCK OFF CTR

The only overly cliche character in DF is Glory. The only not overly cliche character in HK is that ork girl, who is bland as unleavened bread, and also Raymond, I guess.
Also HK is worse than DF overall. From forcing PCs into a strict backstory, some absolutely asinine use of etiquettes compared even to SR, one of those supposedly better characters being called Is0bel, to making combat even worse than in DF.

The Genesis version is the best.

I played on very hard. In several encounters I died literally on the first turn of combat since the enemies went first. I remedied that by putting more points into body. In encounters where you get to set the rules of engagement though, the game is a cakewalk.

you should've probably started with the SNES or Genesis version
the never Shadowrun games are adapted for tablets as part of their kickstarters stretch goal, fucking over the possibility of a proper PC version, at least that's how it is for Shadowrun: Returns which massively put me off the revival of the series
Shadowrun: Returns feels very barebones and like a single lane game to me, maybe I just didn't play it enough with only 20 hours
maybe Shadowrun: dragonfall fixed the UI issues and the very linear missions, I don't know since I dropped the series after the first revival game

I believe you're underestimating the power of bonus armor and DR in general gained from passives and implants. But true, a bunch of quickness doesn't really hurt.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.

It somewhat fixed the UI it still looks like mobile shit but programs are separated from spells and quality of life stuff like that and you get a permanent crew and a proper hideout. You also get to do a bunch of side missions and you generally have multiple ways of finishing them. Say there's a assassination bug planting mission that can go from smooth ghost run to you personally gunning down the target, your team and the client. HK does this even better.

so it's still pretty much shit, but a slightly more polished piece of shit
are these just filler or do they actually give you something that opens up new paths or change the scripted events in the main storyline missions?
if not they might aswell not have added them
I'd imagine they only add some minor detail fluff, like new runners

No. You get a core team from the start and some of those missions are basically their personal shit in the vein of loyalty missions. Up to you how (and if) they walk from them.
Other missions are just various runs which occasionally reward you with unique weapons, contacts or memes you can call on later runs.

It seems that I did when I wrote that post. Relying on armour alone only gets you tangible benefits by the time you gain access to something like corp mage trenchcoat (or whatever it was renamed to since DF), but with implants you can get good damage reduction early enough. Don't know what passives give DR, but if there are ways to increase DR even further it's beyond broken on lower difficulties.
And all of that only further increases the problem with "improved" DF-style cover: before it wasan additional chance to evade, now it is a DR percentage. Which, incidentally, applies to fucking grenades, among other things.

They changed the system between DF and DFDC but the real balancing didn't come until HK, so stacking adept shit with armor and defensive spells is seriously OP.
Adding some choice chrome in the equation and playing a melee build is just broken.

Ah, this is where the passives come from. Never done an adept run, might be fun in SR or some user-created modules for either SR or DF.

See, this is where my autism takes over. Casters and adepts aren't supposed to chrome up. I even didn't put any more into my decker due to roleplaying reasons. But I guess there can be fringe cases either way.

Just a friendly reminder that cyber shamans and "the ghost in the machine" is a thing in Shadowrun.
It's also worth noting that adepts focus chi, mages practice hermitage arts and shamans conjure and bargain with spirits. Doesn't translate to much in the games but strictly speaking in autism terms there are significant differences. Tha/tg/uy t.

youre trying way too hard to fit in

Yeah, but chrome reduces essence. And since any "magic user" can see/sense auras in one way or another and from how low essence chums are usually described, actually being an awakened with most of your soul stripped away must feel really shitty.

But it all comes from the same source. And then Horrors come and devour everything save some dragons and immortal elves.

There's also shit like bioware, grafted demon flesh, inscribed chrome, order spirits that appreciate you new vulcan-like attitude an so on.

It's debatable if shamans and adepts in particular are technically even awakened. Shamans serve as conduits rather then using the astral plane directly, and Adepts are just really pent up.

You do know why this game is called dragonfall? :^)

Both are completely different with Genesis basically being a more faithful to the mechanics and being story light and SNES is heavy on story and is fast and loose with the mechanics. Gameplay couldn't be more different unless one was in first person the SNES is an isometric adventure where click stuff using a controller to interact with objects except you don't need to click to move around while Genesis has text encounters but combat is real time and is less shit then the SNES. For the Genesis the Matrix is the deal breaker if you're into hacking in cyberpunk settings it just straight up blows everything from the SNES to Daggerfall out of the water. It's that good. Shadowrun Returns and Daggerfall are turn based strategy rpgs and there is one more game I'm vaguely aware of for mobile. Oh and that one arena shooter spinoff.

And all that likely looks to an average magic user as gene seed manipulation to an average tech priest.

If they are not different in some way then why spirits can't communicate with/act through any random guy?

Can't they enter the realm(s) of spirits tho?

Nah.

Not inherit, just hide really deep inside it until the scary thing go away.

Just this one, and even then you don't have to do it.

True, but PC is the marty stu of the story. And you're the one looking for excuses to chrome a caster, me? I'm just trying to be neighborly. :^)

Because they can and do? I always figured shamans are those that talk back to them.

OK, maybe Shadow Warrior and Lo Wang influenced that comment.

No, you're the devil's advocate here. As I already said, I don't doubt that there are fringe cases.

That still makes them special tho.

I should probably try the original sometime.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Come to the munchkin side, user. We've got kensai wizards, all white caster parties, the sneakiest stealth archers, the throatsingiest horsearchers, umberhulk hexblades and illithid psi assassins.
And of course terminator shaman baseball bat adepts
